My daughter and three of her friends went to Île Sainte-Marie, Madagascar. I haven’t heard from them in two days. Could you please tell me if you know this bar and hotel? This is the last photo she sent me, and I’d like to get in touch with them... thanks so much

Hi, If you have any concerns, you can contact the Embassy to try and get some info and gather some from the Malagasy authorities.

About the photo, I don’t recognize it. Is the photo high-resolution enough on your end to read the Wi-Fi network or even the password on the small sign on the left? Do you have any idea which part of the island the group was staying in so far? After that, you can check Tripadvisor for photos of hotels/bars in the area to try and figure out which one it is.

Hi Rotsaka, First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and reassure me with the different options I could use. I used Google Lens with the location details and found it easily, then I was able to call them. The person reassured me by saying they were there yesterday at lunchtime to eat and that everything was fine. I think the lack of communication was due to a network issue. Best regards,

Top There we go, I realize I'm an old-timer—I didn’t even think of Google Lens

But it's been 72 hours now and our kids still haven't given us any news—I'm really worried... This isn't normal. Do you know how I can check local news or the Sainte-Marie paper for any incidents, accidents, or anything like that? I'm in France and can't handle this directly. I feel so helpless in this situation because I don't know how to get updates.

Hello, Has none of the relatives of those concerned heard anything (about your daughter and her friends)? It really depends on your habits—if it had been me back then, 3 days without news would’ve been totally normal, but others have very different routines. In Madagascar, there are plenty of reasons why someone might not be able to get in touch.

But if you’re worried, here’s what you can do on the ground: First, contact the honorary consul. There’s one in Sainte-Marie (hopefully the contact info is up to date):

Honorary Consul: Patrick BERNARD Address: Alliance Française - Igosse - 515 SAINTE-MARIE Phone: 038 67 997 39 - 034 18 793 36

He’ll give you the most relevant info and has local contacts with security or health authorities who can tell you if they’ve heard of any issues—disappearances, accidents, etc.—or if there’s nothing to report as far as he knows. If he doesn’t answer, check with the consulate in Tamatave or Antananarivo, as they’ll have the current contact. After that, you could try the Alliance Française in Sainte-Marie to ask if there’s any news about disappearances or accidents. You could also call the hospital in Sainte-Marie directly, but if something had happened, you’d likely have been notified one way or another.

Then, you might want to call the hotel you’ve already contacted again to ask if they’ve heard anything.

For local news, you can check *L’Express de Madagascar*, *Midi Madagasikara*...
