Looking for a Driver-Guide Marrakech-Agadir

Hello, we’re a family with two kids aged 3 and 7. We’re heading to Morocco at the end of February for 11 days and would love to take a road trip starting from Marrakech down to the south of the country, exploring the Atlas Mountains, sleeping in the desert, and then making our way to Agadir—all over about 3 days. We’re looking for something authentic and typical. Travel agencies are offering us pre-packaged bus tours at sky-high prices, but that’s not what we’re after at all. Could you help us out? Do you know any local driver-guides who might be interested? Thanks, and best wishes!

Honestly, the simplest, most enjoyable, and cheapest option is to rent a car. You’ll be free to stop wherever you want, choose your accommodations and restaurants, and even the shops where you’ll buy your souvenirs without commissions—it’s up to you.

Another thing to keep in mind: in 11 days, you’ll be covering a lot of kilometers. With young kids, that can be tough—both for them and for you.

The desert is far from Agadir. If I were you, I’d skip Agadir, especially if you’re looking for something typical and authentic.

I get that you might want to go to the seaside for the kids... but they’ll have so much to discover that they won’t get bored.

Good evening Sylvaine, I also recommend renting a vehicle. No need for a 4x4. The roads in Morocco are good. All the road signs are in French. Traffic outside Marrakech is very smooth. I don’t recommend bus tours. They’ll rush you through Morocco. You won’t have time to see anything. It’s expensive and frustrating. Here’s a travel journal that might give you an idea of what’s doable with kids. https://voyageforum.com/forum/en-famille-marrakech-desert-d9643843/

Hi there,

I’d also recommend renting a car. Driving is easy in Morocco—just avoid driving in Marrakech. On the other hand, I don’t think Agadir is worth the trip either. It’s not a very interesting city for tourists, especially considering the kilometers you’d have to cover to get there. Instead, I suggest doing Marrakech-desert-Marrakech, taking your time along the way. If you have time left at the end of your trip and want to see the sea, you could make a round-trip day trip (or two-day trip) to Essaouira from Marrakech.

About the desert (I assume you mean the sand desert): it’s either Merzouga (east of Marrakech) or Mhamid (southeast of Marrakech), both roughly the same distance from Marrakech.

Good evening, I confirm that renting a car is the best solution, especially with kids. Trostang’s travel journal (suggested by viovio2) seems like a great idea for planning your route.
