Anyone have experience with a trip to Cinque Terre in early June? How’s the tourist crowd and the heat? Any nice accommodation recommendations? Thanks a bunch!

Hi there,

June can be really hot in Cinque Terre, but these days you can’t rely on the weather anymore. It’ll be busy, but it’s still manageable compared to the summer school holidays. For accommodation, I’d advise against staying in one of the Cinque Terre villages—it’s very expensive. Plus, you can only get there by train or hiking; no cars allowed.

The best option is to stay in Levanto or La Spezia, two towns on either side of the five villages. We managed to find free parking spots in La Spezia (See available parking), and we stayed near the train station, which was perfect for heading to the villages in the morning.

Here’s my travel journal for Cinque Terre if it helps with ideas for visits, transport, restaurants, etc.

Hi there,

I can confirm what Chrissand said. Having been there twice in two years, it's best to avoid July and August if possible. It's packed with tourists, the trains between the villages are jammed, and the heat can be overwhelming. For a more intimate accommodation, you can check out the network at https://fr.agriturismo.it/ and travel between the villages by train via https://www.trenitalia.com/trenitalia-france/nos-destinations/autres-destinations-italie/cinq-terre.html

Have a great trip! !

Hi everyone, 3rd trip to the Cinque Terre. Comments = definitely avoid June through September, way too crowded, otherwise still stunning and pleasant. Still by train (La Spezia rather than Genova or Sestri Levante). W Italia
