A savoir, on n'est pas des grands trekkeur et donc on n'est pas du genre a rester une semaine pour faire
toute les ballades, justes les faisables et essentiels

De même, entre Devils Tower et Cody, il y Bighorn Canyon qui est à voir... Mais là aussi c'est trop juste en temps.
Ensuite l'ordre n'est pas bon du tout: il faut faire:
Moab - Monument Valley - Natural Bridges - Capitol Reef - Bryce - Zion - Page - Grand Canyon SOuth - Vegas.
Mais tout va trop vite, mais sans grande randonnée, il va falloir écrémer!
Songer aussi qu'en septembre les journées sont déjà plus courtes, donc il fait nuit beaucoup plus tôt qu'en plein été!

En effet, il faudrait au moins 3 nuits,
pour avoir 2 jours pleins sur place (ce qui n'est pas de trop !)
cela vous permettrait d'inclure Canyonlands NP (dont Island in the Sky).

Exact pour Bighorn, mais pour avoir fait déja un circuit USA plus classique, boucle LA-SF-Yosemite-Zion-Bryce-Grand Canyon-Tucson-LA... hélas tu seras d'accord avec moi que on peut pas tout faire... n'ayant jamais fait le yellowstone et voulant voir le mont Rushmore et Devils Tower, c'était l'occasion d'arriver pour une fois par le Nord et commencer le circuit par le Nord, j'ai trouvé l'arrivée à Rapid City pas trop bête

Pour le sens du circuit Moab... pas bête, mais ne connaissant pas la route "interieure" qui va de Monument Valley > Capitol Reef (goudronné) je m'en tenais à mon experience ; Monument Valley <> Grand Canyon ou tout le monde passe pour ses circuits.
Tracez votre circuit sur Google Maps, vous verrez que ça n'a aucun sens 😉 et que vous repassez 15 fois par la même route (en exagérant un peu 😉) et que vous arrivez même à faire des nœuds 😛

Oui exact! Mais il faut limiter le nombre de kilomètres mais par contre voir les sites majeurs par lesquels on passe pas loin, ça me semble logique 😉. Donc les choses à éliminer sont les sites excentrés et pas ceux par lesquels on passe!

C'est un peu rapide sur Rapid (city).
Il y a les badlands qui sont sympa dans le coin.
De plus, quand on arrive, je trouve qu'il faut un peu "se poser" car il y a la fatigue du décallage horaire. Il peut aussi y avoir des loupés dans le transfert des bagages (je suppose qu'il y a une escale avant Rapid city)... et si les bagages ne sont pas arrivés en même temps que vous et que vous devez partir en circuit, vous faite comment ???
Donc raisonnablement, prenez le temps d'aller voir les badlands et passer une autre nuit sur Rapid.
A quelle heure aarivez vous à Rapid city ?
Avez vous regardé les horaires d'ouverture du Mont Rushmore ?
Pensez-vous pouvoir visiter dans la même journée Mont Rushmore, Devil Tower et Cody et faire 713km soit 7h16 de route ?
Cela ne me parait pas très raisonnable 🙁
Le circuit que vous envisagez est celui que nous avons fait dans l'autre sens en 2011 mais sans monument valley et nous avions 10 jours de plus.😐
Donc il faut faire des choix :
Par ex à partir de Moab soit vous passez vers le nord ( Torrey et Capitol reef)
Soit vous passez par le sud (Monument valley - Laissez tomber natural bridge)
Vous pouvez gagner du temps en faisant dans la journée Moab > Bryce via Torrey (très belle route) direct. Coucher de soleil sur Bryce
- Ensuite vous visitez Bryce au matin puis partez sur Page . Coucher de soleil sur le lac
- Loterie the wave au matin et si ça ne marche pas allez visiter Antelope canyon au matin puis Monument valley mais ça fait tout de même un gros crochet.
Abandonnez l'idée d'aller à Zion si vous ne pouvez pas y rester au moins 2 nuits pour faire une grande balade. Passez plutôt par le grand canyon pour revenir sur Las Vegas.
Pour Yellowstone, je déconseille Gardiner. Essayez plutôt west Yellowstone.

Ça démarre en force: Rapid City - Cody : 6 h de rte non stop🤪
Dommage de faire tant de route et de ne pas avoir le temps de voir les sites qui jalonnent cette route.
Et puis, de mon avis perso, le Mont Rushmore et la Devil's Tower sont sympa... mais à eux seuls ne méritent pas tant de km, d'autant que la visite de ces 2 sites est très rapide. Alors tant de route pour 2 heures de visite😕
Comme déjà dit, le temps passé à Moab est trop court... mais le 16 septembre n'est pas très chargé (faudrait plus détailler votre programme: comptez-vs encore rester à Moab le matin du 16 septembre? )

Et.. oui... une visite du Yellowstone ne s'improvise pas 1 mois avant de partir... mais 1 an à l'avance...
Il vous reste les hébergements à l'extérieur du parc (West Yellowstone et Gardiner qui sont les + proches... mais qui vont multiplier les km en A-R et à moins d'1 mois du séjour, je ne sais pas ce qu'il reste comme disponibilité🤪)

Alors oui, je suis toujours enceinte et on sait que ce circuit se prépare longtemps à l'avance....
Mais comme nous sommes très voyageurs, que nous avions envie de faire le grand ouest depuis longtemps et que bébé n'était pas vraiment prévu, on s'est dit que ce serait chouette de le faire avant.
On essaie de faire un truc sympa et cohérent, pour moi de découvrir et mon compagnon de revoir et approfondir certains sites qu'il a déjà fait . Et bien sûr en faisant attention aux heures de routes et aux ballades un peu difficiles vu mon état.
En tous les cas bravo à tous pour vos carnets de voyages et blogs, c'est vraiment super de faire partager !!!

1 an à l'avance si tu compte faire des choses spéciales genre "dormir à phamtom ranch" au creux du Grand Canyon... 3 mois à l'avance minimum je dirais
que cela s'organise (pour l'avoir fait déja 2 fois) et organisé un circuit différent, en Mai, j'ai trouvé de la place à Curry Village à Yosémite pour plein Aout par exemple... alors
oui je sais que cela s'organise pas en dernière minute mais avec Bébé arrivant pas prévu et 2 ans sans prendre de congés, c'est maintenant ou jamais sinon on reporte tout cela dans 2 ans... 😉
J'ai surtout besoin de conseil pour le Yellowstone et toute la région au dessus de la Vallée des Dieux (déja fait, ainsi que Mexican Hat et Goosseneck) comme Arches, Canyonland et la zone de Capitol Reef qui est une inconnu dans les routes à prendre ; pour moi du fait que lors de mes 2 précédents circuit, on avait un choix à faire et donc on avait pas poussé si haut et on avait préféré la région de Sedonna - Phoenix - Tucson.
Quoiqu'il en soit, merci à ceux qui m'ont conseillé une autre boucle à partir de Monument Valley, je vais refaire le programme sur la base de Moab-Canyonland-Arches avec 3 nuits a Moab puis Monument Valley-natural bridge, Capitol reef - Bryce puis redescendre vers Zion et Page, c'est vrai c'est pas mal même si bizzarement le nombre de KM est identique à mon circuit d'origine, mais cela me fait partir vers Vegas après le Grand Canyon par la route de Kingsman que j'ai jamais prise 😎

Je viens de regarder sur locationdevoiture.fr, le soucis, il ne précise pas les frais à payer en arrivant, notamment le dropoff, détaillé que dans les conditions générals et par un bareme ou 500-1000 miles c'est 300 dollars e > 1000 miles c'est 500 dollars, et comme on est a 1051 miles, j'aimerais rester sur les 300 dollars en louant directement via le site de Alamo ou c'est à qques euros près le meme tarif.

Le 16, si tu fais déjà Monument Valley, il ne faut pas retourner à Blanding mais loger à Mexican Hat.
Monument Valley - Blanding c'est 1h30 de route! Alors que Monument Valley - Mexican Hat c'est 30 minutes
1h30 de rte A-R depuis Page jusqu'au Wire Pass trailhead
+ rando d’approche pour arriver à The Wave : 8,4 Km / 3H A-R
+ visite de The Wave: 1h
+ visite des alentours immédiats de The Wave 1,5Mi /2,5km /1-2H (ou + pour faire des photos) A-R
Cette visite est en plein wilderness, loin de tout en cas de "pépin"😐

L'Upper trail est le sentier qui mène par le haut, tandis que le Lower est le sentier qui mène au pied de la chute.
L'Upper trail est + court que le Lower trail.
Le "problème" du Lower trail, c'est que c'est qd même assez long (9 km A-R) et monotone avant d'arriver à la chute (et rebelote pour le retour à la voiture)
A votre place, j'envisagerais le Burr trail ... ça se fait en voiture (bcp plus soft pour le futur bébé😛) et c'est splendide

Ensuite je ne me souviens plus trop mais compte bien encore 1h à 1h30 de rando en traversant souvent dans l'eau avant de rencontrer les impressionnants "narrows"... soit 3h AR...
Pour info : Nous avions quitté l'hotel à 7h45, étions arrivés au départ du trail à 9h , avions terminé à 15h, etions de retour à l'hotel à 16h !!!

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

There are several attractions along the way:

- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
