voilà pour notre voyage de noce, je compte faire une surprise à mon épouse en lui faisant découvrir l'ouest des USA.
Elle sait juste qu'on ira aux USA et rien d'autre.
J'espère lui faire visiter le maximun (ce qui vaut vraiment la peine) de choses en 2 semaines.
Un peu short certes, mais maleureusment pas moyen de faire autrement ;)

Vos remarques, conseils, suggestions sont les bienvenus.
... tu as dû avoir de mauvaises lectures et des influences douteuses (! avec une petite dose d'humour). Certains arrêts semblent sortis d'un Tour Opérator.
ET le départ est dans 2 mois...
Début trop rapide (1j1/2 à SF et ne pas rouler de nuit....).(1j à LA).
GC, Lac Powell, Bryce, Zion survolés et Monument Valley oublié.
Et pour couronner 3j à LV pour finir.
C'est TON voyage, mais Mme risque d'être déçue.

Alors tant mieux que tu n'aies rien réservé car pour l'instant tes journées ne sont pas tenables.
Un seul exemple: la journée du 3 septembre: plus de 7h de route (sans pauses!)... Donc tu visites Yosemite quand? Le parc est grand il faut aussi rouler à l'intérieur... Tu fais les outlets quand?
Et toutes les journées sont comme ça...
Universal Studios demande à lui seul une journée entière de visite.
Bref, va falloir dégrossir absolument et éviter de passer des nuits dans des endroits loin de tout et pas passionnants, quand on n'a pas le temps c'est une perte de temps 😛

Manquerai-je beaucoup de choses en envelant Yosemite ?
Oui beaucoup plus raisonnable mais très axé villes! Mais c'est un choix...
Perso je zapperais la nuit à Laughlin et ferais Los Angeles - Williams direct pour avoir presque une journée complète au Grand Canyon le lendemain.
Mon second circuit proposé était en effet plus dépaysant, Pong 😉, plus axé paysages spectaculaires et grands espaces. Le circuit 1 (en fait à peu de chose près celui choisi par Jerryjames) est très citadin.
Ton voyage est centré sur les villes : SF, LA et LV + le Grand Canyon : c'est un peu dommage de ne pas l'équilibrer avec des sites naturels (Bryce, Yosemite etc) mais tout dépend de tes priorités et de tes goûts.
A moins que Los Angeles te paraisse indispensable, moi je me centrerais sur SF et Las Vegas + Yosemite/Bryce/Page/Gd Canyon et éventuellement Monument Valley

choix 2: retourner sur Vegas et faire Death valley ( + Eventuellement Hoover Dam et red rock canyon car moins d'une heure de LV)

Je te conseille d'aller faire un petit tour au nord de sf
* Village de Ferndale (on se croirait dans un western au niveau de l'architecture)
* Et pour moi l'immanquable de la Californie: The Redwood Forest (les plus grands arbres du monde), frisson garanti pour qui aime la nature et ça apportera un peu de verdure à ton programme de voyage qui est certes superbe mais très rocailleux et desertique.
* Et concernant les hotels si j'étais toi je me soucierais pas, au contraire, y a tjrs un motel "on vacancy" quelquepart et c'est très cheap pour un confort très correct, de plus celà donne de la flexibilité à votre trip.
* Télecharge des coupons de réductions avant de partir également.
Avec quelle compagnie partez-vous et combien avez-vous payés les billets?

Je connais déja pas mal le coin. Avec ma copine on fait le trajet San Francisco-San Jose-Tijuana-Phoenix-Moab-Las Vegas-Los Angeles.

Le truc c'est que du coup tu n'as plus le temps de visiter le Grand Canyon: Desert View Drive, Hermit's Rest Route, un tour en hélico.... En J08 tu arriveras trop tard pour pouvoir visiter.
Donc la visite de GC se fait en J9... Pas possible de gagner un jour ici.

Oui, dommage de ne pas faire la côte cependant... Mais il y a moyen de gagner un jour en effet. Si tu zappes le côte, ça te permet de faire Death Valley avec une nuit (impératif!!) dans le parc (Furnace Creek ou Stovepipe Wells Village).

Rassure moi, tu as prévu d'aller au bout de la Desert View Drive jusqu'au point de vue Desert View et de prendre la navette pour faire les points de vue sur la Hermit's Rest Road? C'est pas juste un point de vue (celui du Visitor Center, le plus fréquenté 🏴☠️) et hop on s'en va?
Red Rock Canyon
Plutôt que Red Rock Canyon, sympa, mais ça ne casse pas 3 pattes à un canard comparé aux autres parcs, je choisirais d'aller faire un tour à Valley Of Fire State Park à une heure de route de Las Vegas. Préférer une visite en fin d'après-midi, puis retour sur Vegas à la tombée de la nuit. Au contraire de Death Valley, Valley Of Fire est faisable sans loger sur place 😉
Au fait, superficie de Death Valley: 7700km², soit plus grand que la Corse. J'ai l'impression dans tes calculs que tu comptes le temps de route du point A (en l'occurence Vegas) au point B (le panneau d'entrée de Death Valley) mais tu ne comptes pas du tout le temps passé à l'intérieur du parc (visites, petites marches toujours nécessaires...) sachant que les points d'intérêt sont très éloignés les uns des autres!!
une autre idée d'itinéraire un peu plus "logique" pour la 2ème partie du trip (puisqu'il faut laisser SFO et LA), et en incluant Bryce Canyon (mais en enlevant un peu de temps à Las Vegas) :

Carnet de Voyage: De Mile High City à Sin City (Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada) -> voir mon profil
tout à fait d'accord avec vous PpaJ59, le jour 8 sep avec Brice et zion et etc.... Totalement digne d'un TO, et le temps de ne faire que de la route alors que 4 nuits à LV, donc 3 jours pleins ?
Il me semble que le jour 8 sep pourrait en faire au moins 2 : en consacrer 1 à Zion et au moins 1 à Bryce afin de pouvoir y descendre (j'y avais passé 2 jours).
quant au fait que les hôtels ne soient pas réservés : je crois que cela va être la galère, sauf à LV où je conseille de miser sur un hôtel avec une grande piscine (style Mirage, Flamingo). et si le séjour est vraiment de 3 jours, j'imagine que les outlets sont au programme. Pour notre part, 2*1 nuits (dont la veille du départ) nous ont suffi (pas d'outlets).
pour ce qui est de SF, 1 journée entière me semble nécessaire.

Louer une voiture intermediaire (On ne fait que Yosemite et Grand Canyon) type Dodge Caliber ou Crysler Sebring, est ce suffisant ?
Au niveau de ma check list:
* ESTA à remplir (Je le ferai 2 semaines avant le voyage)
* Avoir des dollars sur soi ? Est ce utile ? (... peut être pour les tips)
* Imprimer des bons de reduction
* Avoir des cadenas TSA (est ce Obligatoire ?)
* Adaptateur prise lectrique, je je sais pas si ma tondeuse fonctionnera avec leur tension 😛

Voilà, nous venons de passer 2 semaines inoubliables dans l'Ouest des USA.
2 semaines, c'est tout juste l'idéal c'est au moins trois semaines.
Voici notre parcours.
31/08: Bruxelles - Philadelphie + Philadelphie - San Francisco
Très longue journée, nous avions atterri vers 19h45 heure locale. Certes très fatigués, nous avions quand même pris le BART au lieu d'un taxi jusque que Powell street et notre hotel était à 5 minutes de là (Plazza union square).
(-): Tous les sdf qu'on a vu sur le chemin entre Powell Street station et notre Hotel
01/09: San Francisco
débout depuis 3 heures du mat .... décalage horaire.
Le matin nous avions pris le cable car, descendu à Lombart Street (MAGNIQUE), puis nous avions continué à pied jusqu'au piers ...
Musée mécanique, on a adoré, super retour à l'enfance. Le pier 39 pur les éléphants de mer, ....
Nous avions également été au Coit tower, washington square, china town, ...
02/09: San Francsico
Location de vélo puis traversée du Golden Gate, Magnifique mais dommage à cause le brouillard.
Retour en Ferry à partir de Sausalito. Une fois à SF, on a fait China town, Finacial district, ...
03/09: San Francisco - Yosemite
Direction aéroport pour prendre la voiture, on a fait San Diego, Gilory (quelques achats pour madame), MAdera et dodo à Oakshurt.
04/09: Yosemite - San Simeon
1 jour faire tout ça, c'est à déconseiller.
tôt le matin, nous avions visité Yosemite, pas tous les points de vue bien sûr ...
En voiture, on a repris la route jusque Monterey et via la 1, nous avions fait la côté ouest (trop beauuuuu), Big sur , ... arrivé le soir à san Simeon.
Je ne m'attendais pas à ce que le soleil tombe aussi vite et les route son sinueuses. Bref, San Simeon était trop loin pour éviter de conduire quand il fait noir !!!
05/09:San Simeon - LA
Avec un petit détour à Never Land, puis on a passé le reste de la journée à Santa Monica beach.
Notre hotel se trouvait à Glendale.
06/09: LA
Hoolywood Sign, Walk of fame, Beverly Hills, Bel air, ...
07/09: LA - Barstow
On a fait Universal Studio (on a adoré) puis vers 18h, on a quitté LA pour Barstow.
08/09: Barstow - Flagstaff
Longue route, passage à Laughlin, Kingman, Seiligman, Williams (on aurait du dormir là bas) puis Flagstaff.
Grrr, motel bruyant, trop bruyant
09/09: Flagstaff - GC -Flagstaff
Visite du Grand Canyon avec les différents points de vue. c'est ma deuxième fois, mais c'est toujours aussi impressionnant.
10/09: Flagstaff - LV

A phili pratiquement tous les guichets étaient ouverts. Ca allait relativement vite mais il y avait un monde de malade.
Sans oublier une deuxième file pour le vol interne.
2h30 entre les deux vols, c'était tout juste.
A flagstaff on a dormi à "Americas Best Value Inn and Suites", train en face, travaux à l'arrière ... l'horreur. Par contre celui Yosemite (même chaîne d'hotêl) était parfait.
Merci. J'ai fait ce que je déconseille souvent, 😊 prendre 2 vols avec 2h d'escale à l'arrivée US. 🤪
Mais il y a un autre vol pour SF 1h50 plus tard, 🙂 qui n'était pas proposé à la vente. 😕
on est passé 2 (ou 3 ?) fois à Philadelphie en escale... en mai 2011, on a débarqué à 13h15 et il n'y avait personne à l'immigration et à peine un légère file d'attente au contrôle de sécurité ! à 14h (après une bonne trotte dans l'aéroport), on était devant la porte d'embarquement de notre vol suivant (15h35)... en octobre 2010, on est arrivé un peu avant 18h (notre 1er avion avait 5h de retard !) et idem, tout s'est passé assez vite et on a eu le vol suivant à 20h30 sans pb et avec du temps...
mais bon, comme d'hab, c'est la loterie !

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
