Juste pour rire, j'ai regardé le programme et je suis encore abasourdi par le Jour 5 : Départ Page - Monument Valley - retour Page et continuation Bryce Canyon. Du grand n'importe quoi !
Le J 8 : Bakersfield - Sequoia - San Francisco c'est 650 kms et 8h00 de route en gros. Tu vois ce qu'il te reste de la journée ?
Désolé mais d'un côté c'est pratique ( et encore ) , j'en conviens mais ce sont des voyages bâclés quand même, faut en être conscient !
- C'est gaché de partir avec un Tour Operator, surtout aux US car il y est très facile d'y voyager " en individuel" mais c'est ton choix et ... c'est ton choix 🙂( Même si VRAIMENT c'est à la portée de tous 😕 va passer quelques heures dans la rubrique " Carnet de Voyage de VF ( >>ICI<< ) tu trouveras plusieurs carnets ( Californie, Arizona et Utah en juin 2009 , Il était une deuxième fois dans l'Ouest..., De Mile High City à Sin City... à travers le Colorado, l'Utah, l'Arizona et le Nevada en juin 2008 ) qui te raconteront tout ça et qui devraient te donner envie dre repartir ... par toi même
- Avec un circuit TO tu n'auras pas vraiment de lattitude sur ce que tu feras ou ne feras pas donc tu n'as pas à te creuser les méninges sur les choix potentiels. Tu trouveras tout ce que tu as besoin de savoir en achetant un guide de voyage type " Guide bleu "
- Comme te l'a dit Smokey, VF n'as rien à t'apporter puisqu'on y trouve des renseignements et tuyaux pour organiser ses voyages.
- Enfin, ton voyage sera super même si tu regretteras de n'avoir pas pu passer plus de temps là ou là ( surtout si tu lit les carnets de voyages que je te donne plus haut ) !

Et je parle en connaissance de cause: je souhaitais partir avec Capitales Tour: en mars dernier, je suis venue ici poser quasi la même question que vous, et au final: aujourd'hui, j'en suis à J-7 du voyage organisé par mes propres soins, et aidée par les membres actifs de ce forum!😎😎😎 (et, cerise sur le gateau: on reste plus longtemps sur place😛)
Je suis d'accord sur le fait qu'il est plutôt facile d'organiser soi-même son voyage aux USA...
Cela dit, pour cela il faut déjà avoir son permis ! eh oui 😊 car en transports en commun, c'est assez irréaliste...
Et puis même avec le permis... personnellement je me verrais mal faire seule ce voyage ! bon en ce qui me concerne, mon ami vient avec moi, on va se relayer pour conduire ; mais si l'on est célibataire, qu'on a pas envie de faire ce genre de voyage seul (c'est le cas de beaucoup je pense !) et qu'aucun de ses amis ne souhaite faire le même voyage... on fait comment ? on attend le jour, hypothétique, où l'on trouve qq'un pour nous accompagner ? on passe une annonce sur le forum pour trouver des co-voyageurs ? (chacun fait ce qu'il veut mais moi ça me plairait pas)
Bref, je suis d'accord que ces circuits sont menés au pas de course, parfois en dépit du bon sens, mais pour certaines personnes, c'est un peu la seule solution pour découvrir le pays 🙂
Et puis, le côté " je ne m'occupe de rien" n'est pas désagréable non plus... après chacun voyage comme il le souhaite !
Ce qui m’a évité de choisir une tout operator est une obligation familiale en fin de séjour.
Quand on analyse un circuit standard de 13 jours, c’est en fait 11 jours sur place avec les incontournables San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Le Grand Canyon, et quelques parcs nationaux.
Avec un programme aussi chargé c’est au pas de charge, à la japonaise comme disent les habitués du forum que se font les visites avec des étapes monstrueuses.
Et pour tirer les prix, on loge les touristes pas forcément sur place. Alors pas de question de profiter du lever ou coucher de soleil dans le Grand Canyon par exemple.
On n’a pas le loisir de prendre son temps, de discuter avec les gens du pays, de boire une bonne bière avec eux, si l’occasion se présente.
Plus généralement, j’ai trouvé que les hôtels proposés ne sont pas souvent haut de gamme, même à Las Vegas où cela serait possible facilement pour qui achète des nuitées en grand nombre.
Certains étapes proposées ne me semblent pas judicieuses comme Laughlin ou Bakersfield.
Des parcs comme Arches ou Mesa Verde sont souvent omis par manque de temps.
Je trouve en conclusion que pour le prix proposé et la durée des circuits, on ne s’y retrouve pas en prenant un tour operator.
Mais j’admets que certains ne veulent ou ne peuvent investir dans la préparation d’un tel circuit dans l’Ouest des USA.

Oui c'est vrai désolé pour le HS aponi37! ça aurait été un bon moyen de montrer ce que peut être un premier voyage aux USA organisé par un de tes interlocuteurs.
Je partage les avis concernant le côté "on s'occupe de rien" mais je pense, non, je suis sur, que si je devais partir seul, je ne le ferais pas par un TO. C'est tellement speed. En revanche si c'est une question de budget, j'avoue que c'est discutable, par le CE de mon amie, 12 jours: boucle classique LA>SF à 800€ tout compris (je crois 45% de remise) ! c'est le prix du billet d'avion A/R 🤪.
Oui en effet mais ça reste très peu cher et j'avoue me poser la question pour le faire en + de mon projet autonome! Peut être que aponi à la possibilité de faire se voyage à des prix comme cela. Mais laissons-la nous dire les motivations/choix de ce dernier?
J'attendais et je comprends ce genre de réponse mais il faut bien se dire que pour certains, c'est impossible de lacher 5000€ dans un voyage alors si leur rêve est d'en voir ne serait-ce qu'un petit peu, même trop vite, laissons les faire. En gros cela reviendrais à dire: "je préfere ne jamais y aller que d'y aller pour survoler"? J'ai lu plusieurs fois ce genre de remarques et je mets ma main à couper que ces remarques viennent de gens qui peuvent évidemment lacher des sommes pareilles sans regarder à 100€ près, j'ai bien compris floyd que c'était ta facon de voir les choses, ton avis perso donc n'y vois aucune agréssivité 😉.
Pour infos, pour moi c'est 3 ans d'économie sans vacances (et je suis quelques 100aines € au dessus du SMIC) alors pour un Smicard...6 ans? Ca me laisse réveur quand je lis dans les carnets de voyage "je prépare déjà mon voyage pour l'an prochain"...
Oublie c la galère mais bon l'important est d'être sur place et de voir !
c'est une région ou faut le temps de prendre le temps lol, faire des détours, s'arreter contempler les paysage, ce meler a la populasse, s'arreter dans les bars de la route 66 je pense pas qu'en bus tu pourras faire ca 😉

Je ne sais pas pour ce que va faire Aponi mais ce que j'ai cité plus haut (12jours/10 nuits), j'ai le papier sous les yeux, je vous assure que nous paierions pour 2: 1620€ (hors tips aux guides). Après il est clair que la qualité 😠. Quand je vois les étapes en 1 jour (ex: Flagstaff>monument valley>lac powell>Kanab ca fait 8h de route, comment peut-on voir quelque chose?)
Je suis de toute manière convaincu qu'il vaut mieux le faire tout seul, je partirai 2 fois plus longtemps en voyant plus de chose, plus "cool" pour environ 3 fois plus cher.
Oui mais quel serait le prix de ce circuit sans la participation du CE ? Vous dites vous-même qu'il y a 40 ou 45% de remise. Ce qui nous amène le circuit à un petit 2000 EUR (à la grosse louche). Donc 4000 EUR par couple. Pour ce prix-là, vous partez plus longtemps en individuel.
Il ne faut pas confondre voyage organisé de chez untel ou untel, et les mêmes voyages organisés proposés avec X% de réduc par un CE.

Je pense que pour une première fois, quand on ne sait pas comment se comporter aux USA, passer par un TO n'est pas une mauvaise idée.
Je l'ai fais, il est vrai que c'était en moto, mais je n'ai aucuns regrets.
Après, si on veut y retourner, on peut le faire soi-même. Et comme il est dit, la préparation c'est presque ce qu'il y a de mieux dans le voyage. En effet, le meilleur est à venir !

Je te réponds à Michel63 car effectivement, nous ne sommes jamais partis ds un pays étranger, c'est donc notre 1er voyage et en plus un voyage de noces... Le choix d'un tour opérator est effectivement peut-être dommage mais nous souhaitons d'abord repérer les meilleurs coins et on aime tellement les Etats-unis que nous repartirons très certainement en faisant le voyage nous même mais ds les endrois que l'on aura le plus appréciés. Le fait de conduire n'est pas un soucis pour nous, mais pour un voyage de noces on ne voulait s'occuper de rien. De plus nous n'avons que 12 jours de congés et pas un de plus... Faut faire court...

Je veux bien comprendre (et encore.... 😛) que vous ayiez envie de vous occuper de rien mais de là à s'occuper de rien rien du tout et de se laisser coincer dans un circuit 'déshumanisé', il y a peut-être un pas non ???? 😕
A partir avec Look Voyage, pourquoi ne prenez-vous pas leur autotour ?
Ainsi, ils vous organisent tout le circuit mais au moins, vous gardez, sur place, la liberté d'une voiture : arrêt quand vous le souhaitez sur la route, arrivée tardive aux hotels si vous voulez un coucher de soleil ou matinale pour un lever... Et puis, tous jeunes mariés, c'est quand même plus sympa une voiture à 2 qu'un bus plein de touristes... 🤪
Je suis entiérement d'accord avec vous un autotour serait l'idéal dans ce cas là et plus agréable que de voyager dans les conditions d'un circuit en autobus
Nous en avons fait un il y a longtemps en Sicile vols voiture a l'aéroport hotels réservés juste les repas du midi dans des restaurants trouvé sur place repas du soir et petit déjeuner prévu dans les hotels d'étapes
Ils sont sans doute arrivés un peu tard sur Voyage Forum mais vu que tout semble réservé et payé, faut peut-être quand même pas les dégoûter à ce point...
C'est un beau voyage de noce et ils auront quand même de bien belles choses à se mettre sous la dent.

Les déplacements en bus ne leu font pas peur
D'autres ont peur de l'inconnu et des apprioris par rapport à la barrière de la langue

Perso je suis allergique aux voyages en groupe mais pour sa fin d'étude j'ai offert un circuit en bus aux US à mon fils.
Pour les raisons suivantes, il est pas aguerri aux voyages, pas 25ans, voulait partir avec sa copine, et c'était un moyen rapide de partir entre ses études et son job d'été

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.

I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. They told us they’ve spent over 15 years exploring every corner of the American West, and it really shows. Their knowledge of geology, park history, and local anecdotes is just impressive. It’s nothing like someone reciting a memorized script. They answer all your questions and really adapt to what you want to see or do.
What we really loved: the vehicle was super comfortable, and the little details made a difference—like snacks and even a homemade cake! Though, to be fair, we devoured the cake right away, so that counts.
Since they know the sites inside out, they took us at the right times to avoid crowds. So we could enjoy peaceful picnics at Grand Canyon viewpoints without being packed in with 200 people. Plus, on top of the must-see spots, they showed us some hidden gems that were absolutely stunning—places we never would’ve found on our own. They’re true locals who know all the best tips.
The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
