Bonjour, j'hésite maintenant depuis plusieurs semaines à réserver mon Motel à Los Angeles, à vrai dire j'hésite entre le seashore motel(un peu plus de 100 euros la nuit) à Santa Monica (à 500m de la plage) et le saharan motel (dont j'ai entendu beaucoup de bien, à 85 euros la nuit, ptit dej compris) sur sunset boulevard en plein coeur du quartier animé de Los Angeles.
le Coté Océan et ambiance de bord de mer de Santa Monica m'attire beaucoup, mais le côté centre du Saharan est un vrai plus!!
c'est pour y loger du 5 Juin au 8 Juin soit 3 nuit

Je ne sais pas ce que tu vas visiter à Los Angeles, mais Sunset Boulevard est plus central que Santa Monica. Tu ne seras pas très loin du quartier Hollywood et si tu fais quelques studios (Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount...) tu ne seras pas très loin non plus. De même pour Griffith et Beverly Hills.
Santa Monica est plus excentré.
Ps: j'ai logé sur Sunset Boulevard en 2009, et dans le quartier de Santa Monica en 2010. En 2011 j'ai re-choisi le quartier Vermont- Sunset 😉
le 6 Juin j'irais faire la visite des studios universal et le 7 juin sera consacré à la visite d'holywood, walk of fame, rodeo drive, beverly hills et le griffith observatory en soirée, mais j'aimerais également profiter du bord de mer.
à la limite, vu que le 5 juin je serais j'espère sorti avant 15h de l'aéroport (comme toi d'ailleurs), je pourrais éventuellement me décontracter l'après midi sur le bord de mer directement en sortant de l'aéroport et filer sur Sunset bvld en soirée pour le check in au motel.
ma crainte sur sunset boulevard est le bruit! (mais le rapport qualité prix du saharan est attirant)
Ah ça c'est un quartier animé! Et il y a de la circulation! Là où je fais attention aussi quand je loge à LA c'est si l'hôtel comporte un parking gratuit ou payant 😉.
En fait tout dépend de ce qu'on veut visiter. Je sais qu'en 2010 et logeant à santa Monica on a fait finalement beaucoup plus de miles qu'en 2009 dans LA 🙂.

Ça tombe très bien que tu parles de ce quartier 🙂, j'ai repéré le Travelodge Hollywood Vermont/Sunset mais j'avais entendu dire que le quartier (East Hollywood) n'était pas très "safe" et il n'y à pas grand chose pour manger à proximité immédiate. On à pas envie de rentrer à 23h et que ça craigne dans le coin...

T'es de la région parisienne? Dis toi que LA (seul, sans banlieue) fait 10x Paris 😉. Mais nous restons que sur le nord de LA donc ça réduit le rayon d'action 😛.

Super, merci pour l'info! Sur expedia, je trouve 40€ HT/nuit pour 2 ce qui ferait 360€/ 3 nuits pour 6 (4+2). Pour LA c'est plutôt bon marché.
Je viens de regarder, en direct sur le site de l'hôtel (réservation en novembre) j'en ai eu pour 67.83$ TTC pour une chambre king bed. Soit 51€ TTC la nuit au taux d'alors (en comptant les frais bancaires).
Pour un séjour de seulement 2 jours, Hollywood sans hésiter.
On a beaucoup aimé Magic Castel Hotel sur Franklin Avenue à un coin de rue du Hall of Fame. On est traité comme des stars et les prix sont très bien. Ça nous a pris beaucoup de temps pour aller du Magic Castel Hotel à Universal Studios même si c'est tout près, la circulation était phénoménale alors si on serait parti de Santa Monica... ouf...
Le problème n'est pas de conduire à Los Angeles mais c'est le temps que tu perds dans la circulation et comme tu as seulement 3 jours.
Sur Sunset Boulevard... ne manquez pas le resto Toi, je l'avais glané dans le Frommer's. Un thaîlandais - rock... vraiment le fun! et tu peux difficilement manger pour moins cher. C'est en face du Saharan Motel.
Faut aussi aller manger un Chili Dog chez Pink's.
On a passé aussi deux nuits au Seashore Motel et c'est effectivement très bien situé, entre Santa Monica Beach et Venice Beach. Et on était content d'être près des endroits qu'on voulait visiter.

à la sortie de l'aeroport (15h au plus tard) je file m'installer à l'hôtel à Santa Monica (le seashore?ou autre j'attend les tarifs!) beaucoup plus proche de l'aéroport que le centre d'Hollywood
Petite ballade à vélo sur la côte de Venice au Pier, histoire de se dégourdir les jambes après 12h de vol, la third street promenade le soir, et un gros dodo!
le lendemain matin grâce au Jetlag debout très tôt, je file vers universal studio (vers 6h du mat) vu que cela ouvre qu'à 10h, j'ai le temps de faire un détour et de profiter du Walk of Fame tranquillement en ayant évité les bouchons et la cohue! à priori lorsque cela roule santa monica n'est qu'à moins de 30 min de Hollywood boulevard.
à la sortie de universal je file vers le Griffith observatory, histoire de laisser les gens rentrer au boulot tranquillement, et le soir vers 21h je rentre sur Santa Monica évitant une fois de plus les bouchons!
pour mon dernier jour je pense aller faire un tour du coté de Beverly Hills, rodéo drive... aux heures "creuses"
est ce que cela n'est que utopie ou largement envisageable?

Largement envisageable 😉. Même si tu peux avoir des ralentissements à toutes heures. Mais il ne faut pas s'en faire une montagne non plus. On a quand même réussi à s'en sortir l'été dernier 😛.
Si Santa Monica te botte plus et que tu trouves un hôtel à un prix qui te convient alors fonce!
Là où je fais attention aussi quand je loge à LA c'est si l'hôtel comporte un parking gratuit ou payant 😉.

Cette année je fais le Travelodge Vermont Sunset. Mais pas encore testé bien sûr 😛. Il est plutôt bien noté sur Tripadvisor. Je l'ai eu en promo à environ 68$TTC la nuit pour une chambre avec un lit king size. Petit déjeuner compris dans le prix (basique d'un travelodge j'imagine).
En 2009 j'avais logé au Best Western Sunset Plaza, super! Mais un peu cher et avec parking payant (10$ la journée).
Avec ce budget, allez au Magic Castel.... vous ne le regretterez pas, c'est vraiment un super hôtel, merveilleusement bien situé. Stationnement à 8$ par jour, ce qui est très raisonnable. Et on est servi comme des stars.
Cidre de pommes et biscuits danois à l'entrée durant toute la journée.
Collations et breuvages gratuits à tout moment. Mes fistons en ont bien (trop) profité d'ailleurs.
Bon petit déjeuner.
Comptez 200$ pour une suite : 1 chambre fermée, salon + cuisinette... et moins pour une chambre seulement. Ce qui rentre dans votre budget.

Tu ne regretteras pas Santa Monica. Le Pier et 3rd St Promenade sont très sympas le soir.
Si ça coince sur la freeway (accès à côté de l'hôtel), prends Wilshire ou Sta Monica bd pour rejoindre Hollywood.

Ce que je veux dire, c'est que le lieu peut décevoir, mais le voir en plus sans aucune "ambiance", ça doit être encore plus décevant voire déprimant. Ou alors, il faut peut-être y aller plusieurs fois, pour le voir sous divers jours.

C'était émouvant, un moment de calme autorisant une pensée et renvoyant à ces films et chansons. La deuxième fois, un début d'après-midi, avec la foule et l'impossibilité de faire la moindre photos correctes de quelques empreintes, j'avais pas aimé du tout.
Tant mieux si tu paies moins de 90$... on a payé près de 200... disons 180$$$ mais il est vrai qu'on paie davantage durant les vacances de Noel ou l'été. Refait à neuf ? hum... Pas de déjeuner, même pas de cafetière dans la chambre, mais au moins il y a un Starbuck sur le coin de la rue. Et le stationnement est gratuit.
Sinon au niveau chambre ça ne vaut même pas un Super 8.
Le principal avantage de ce motel est qu'il est très bien situé, on descend une rue et on est sur la plage.
J'y retournerais pour la proximité des lieux. Pas besoin de voiture pour se rendre à Venice Beach plus plus qu'au Pier de Santa Monica.

Je prefere Santa Monica a Hollywood a cause de la brise legere de l' ocean... Parce qu' en ete, c' est plutot suffocant a l' interieur des terres.
Mais maintenant, je loge a Pasadena. C' est loin de tout mais c' est plutot "posh" et tranquille.

Je veux bien le croire... Certains endroits sont "habités", quoi qu'on en dise, et cela doit être émouvant de les voir sous ce jour. Comme on se lève tôt en vacances, beaucoup des sites que nous voyons sont encore déserts ou presque. Parfois, même pas assez de luminosité pour la photo 😏.

Bon, c'est décidé, se sera 2 nuits au Seaview hotel à Santa monica, par contre je pensait passer la dernière nuit ailleurs plus au nord de Los angeles, car le lendemain je roule jusqu'à Kingman (mon étape avant le Grand Canyon) et je redoute les embouteillages juste pour sortir de L.A, quelqu'un aurait une idée?
si je reste 3 nuit au Sea view, vers quel heure dois-je partir de Santa Monica pour limiter les bouchons? (10-11h?)
Il est situé sur Sunset Boulevard, près des lieux branchés. Il a une piscine extérieure très fleurie mais pas testée. Il a un super petit déjeuner compris dans le tarif, avec beaucoup de choix de viennoiseries (pains au chocolat, pains aux raisins, croissants, donuts...).
Il vaut mieux donner sur l'arrière (piscine) que sur le devant (Sunset Boulevard) si tu as le sommeil léger.
Ça prends quand même un peu de monde pour l'ambiance. 🙂
Nous... on s'est baladé un peu partout et une autre journée on a fait la visite guidée à pied, ce qui permet de comprendre bien des choses. Ça vaut vraiment la peine.

Pour sortir de Los Angeles, en venant de Santa Monica, tu prendras plusieurs highways dont la 15 qui passe par Ontario. Si tu veux eviter les traffic jams le matin au depart de Santa Monica, passe la nuit d' avant a Ontario. C' est moins cher et tu seras plus proche de ton but.
Sinon, ca prends des heures a sortir du bassin de Los Angeles...

j'ai finalement opté pour 2 nuits à Santa Monica (pour l'ambiance vacance) et la dernière nuit au Days Inn d'Hollywood à 2 pas du Walk of Fame.
mes visites vont se résumé à Santa Monica et Venice, rodéo drive, Beverly Hills, Hollywood boulevard, griffith observatory et le dernier jour Universal studios.
Vu que se sera mes premiers pas sur le sol de la Californie je veux la jouer cool et profiter un peu de l'Ambiance californienne du bord de mer, et m'habituer tranquillement au décalage horaire avant d'entamer mon Roadtrip.

Je réponds un peu tard, ... juste pour dire que Santa Monica, c'est pas mal si tu prévois du temps pour sortir le soir ou pour te faire des restaus sympa. Hollywood, c'est vraiment pas beau comme quartier alors c'est juste pour le côté pratique, c'est à dire si tu ne vas à l'hôtel que pour dormir et que le reste du temps, tu es en ballades. Santa Monica - Hollywood, c'est 1/2h à 1h selon la densité du trafic. Pour la dernière nuit, tu aurais pu t'avancer un peu sur la route en allant à Pasadena, qui est très sympa comme coin et assez méconnu des touristes. Si tu loges à Hollywood, prends les freeways qui passent au nord pour limiter les bouchons (101 puis 134 puis 210 puis 15)
Merci beaucoup pour tes precisions, j'avais penser à Passadena mais vu que je serais à universal studio le dernier jour, en sortant je filerais au griffith observatory pour voir la ville au coucher du soleil et de nuit, le days inn de Hollywood boulevard était vraiment pratique car très proche du griffith!😉

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:

- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
