Nous sommes un groupe d'amis (une quinzaine de personnes) et souhaitons faire un voyage de 3 semaines aux Etats-Unis.
Au départ nous voulions faire une traversée des Etats-unis mais nous y avons renoncé.

Notre budget maximum par personne est de 3500 euros

Nous avons démarché plusieurs agences de voyage sur mesure et ils nous conseillent d'enlever miami
Il me semble que c'est parce qu'ils ont des parcours tout prêt dans l'ouest auquel il rajoute juste une escale de 3 jours à New york.
Qu'en pensez-vous?

Votre programme est déjà très ambitieux pour 2 alors pour 15... Il faut au moins supprimer Miami et encore... à 15 les déplacements/repas/visites divisent presque par 2 le temps, sur la boucle de l'ouest ça risque de vous frustrer.
Vous voulez trop en voir et en faire !
3 semaines est le temps minimum qu'il faut pour faire Las Vegas + Grand Circle + SF. Et vous, vous voulez ajouter NY, Miamia, Los Angeles, Yosemite...
Surtout qu'à 15, on n'est pas aussi réactif et rapide qu'à 2...
En 3 semaines, faites NY ou SF + Las Vegas + les parcs de Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon et autour de Moab.
J'ajouterai juste qu'il te faudra prévoir les réservations d'hôtels pour 15 personnes trèèèèèès longtemps à l'avance. Ce qui implique que tout (itinéraire, nombre de personnes, budget...) soit définitivement fixé.
Il n'y a aucune chance que tu trouves au dernier moment des chambres pour 15 dans le même hôtel (ou même des hôtels voisins), tout en n'étant pas trop loin des endroits que tu souhaites visiter. Sauf dans les grandes villes mais alors il faudra y mettre le prix !
En plus de ce qui a été dit par les autres intervenants, il ne va pas être possible de visiter les 7 parcs et les 3 villes mentionnées lors des 6 journées dédiées (11/08 au 16/08).

pour cela nous avons mis quelques règles en place :
définition de l'état d'esprit du voyage
définition du budget (pour que certains ne se retrouvent pas à sec pendant que d'autres continuent de dépenser)
location de 3 grandes voitures : histoire d'avoir de la place et surtout de pouvoir partir n'importe quand même si certains ne sont pas prêts...
le but est que chacun puisse faire un peu ce qu'il veut : si certains décident de faire des grasses mat à cause du planning très chargé cela n'empêchera pas d'autres personnes de partir visiter et randonner
nous avons également volontairement (pour l'instant) gardé une journée à caser dans le planning histoire d'aérer un peu celui-ci...

Bodie , effectivement le 10 ou le 11 suivant le temps pris par votre visite de Yosemite.
Nuit Lee Vining / Mammoth, ce sera suivant la disponibilité des logements.
Car c'est ce qui m'inquiéte un peu , 15 c'est beaucoup et si vous ne réservez pas, certains lieux (Furnace Creek par exemple, Monument Valley/Mexican Hat/Kayenta ordre de préférence selon budget) risquent de vous poser problèmes.
vendredi 5 : Ne quittez pas trop tard LA (10H max).
Samedi 6 : 4H de route théorique, mais bcp plus en réalité, tant y a des choses à voir en chemin. Rien que de San Simeon (visite de Hearst Castle non incluse !) à Monterey, nous avons mis 6H avec les petits arrêts photos sur la côte et 30 mn de balade à la McWay fall ! Ensuite de Monterey à SF, c'est normalement 2H d'une seule traite, voire 3H si embouteillages aux heures de pointe (16-19H) dès la Silicon valley. A Monterey et Carmel, vous pouver prévoir un stop de 4H pour les visites. Donc, une visite de SF ce jour là est impossible (ou alors de nuit, si vous n'êtes pas fatigués de cette longue journée).
Mercredi 10 : consacrer la journée à visiter Yosémite, il y aura bcp de chose à voir en plein été.
Jeudi 11 : mat : Tioga road avec ses superbes paysages. AM : Visite de Bodie. Nuit à Lee Vining.
Quelques observations :Tout d'abord dans vos horaires, vs etes trop optimistes : par exemple, sur le tps que vs allez passer a NY : entre les formalités de debarquement et le transfert a votre hotel : l'AM sera bien entamée.Ensuite les distances et donc les durées de route sont TRES importantes dans l'ouest. Ensuite, il y a une durée de voyage theorique, qui ne tient pas compte du tps des arret pour voir ce qu'il y a d'interessant sur la route, et c'est là ou on "perd" beaucoup de temps.Vendredi 5 : matin Visite Los Angeles aprèm : Route 1 372km 5h max Nuit sur la côte (san simeon par ex) San simeon est la "derniere ville" ou vs pourrez trouver un motel avant de faire ce qu'il y a de plus interessant de la route 1. Mais je ne sais pas ce que vs pourrez voir le matin sur LA. Les distances et les bouchons font perdre beaucoup de tempsSamedi 6 : route 1 route 1 + visite SF nuit à San fransisco 353km max 4h : Alors la : la route 1 entre San simeon et Monterey est magnifique. En plus il y a CARMEL et MONTEREY a voir. Ne comptez donc pas etre à SFO tres tot.Mardi 9 : matin Visite SF aprèm : route vers yosemite max 4h30 307 km nuit à Yosemite sud max 4h30 307 km.Un conseil : de SFO allez sur l'entrée sud de YOSEMITE et logez à OAKHURST : Le soir, vs pourrez randonner parmi les sequoias de Mariposa groves (le soir il y a beaucoup moins de monde).Mercredi 10 : Visite Yosemite + bodie??? 170 km 2h30 nuit à Yosemite nord (Mammoth lake ou Lee vining???) YOSEMITE est "immense" : le matin route jusqu'à Yosemite village, avec Glacier point (beaucoup de voiture) L'am la Tioga pass. En 1 jour ca fait pas mal. Attention, si vs voulez voir BODIE, il ne faut pas dormir à Mammoth lake. Ca fait quand meme pas mal de route inutile.Jeudi 11 : matin bodie??? aprèm route vers death valley 370km 4h30 nuit à Death valley (furnace creek Bon choixVendredi 12 : matin death valley aprèm : route vers Las vegas + visite LV 234km 2h30 nuit à Las VegasPlutot fin d'AM à LV, et visite de LV la nuit...Attention. Vs allez etre à LV eun vendredi -> C'est le debut du Wend et c'sst là ou les hotels sont le plus cher.A mon avis : nuit à rajouter pour "faire" le trajet ZION->GC de maniere plus senséeGC -> LV : 450km 5hVendredi 19 ??? journée à rajouter dans le trajet après LV ??? La encore. cette journée pourrait etre utilisée pour aerer la visite des parcs precedents.Vendredi 19 soirée ou samedi 20 matin : départ pour paris à partir de LV via NY? Pourquoi repartir de LV, surtout s vs prevoyez une etape à NY. Cela vs fait perdre du temps.Depuis GC, pourquoi ne pas aller directement sur LA et prendre le vol du soir, en faisant une etape sur la route eventuellement
Nous pensons effectivement rogner sur LA le vendredi 5 matin et sur SF le 6 après-midi pour profiter de 2 jours entiers sur la côte..
nous savons que les trajets seront plus long qu'indiqués : rien que pour mettre les 15 personnes dans les voitures on rajoute une heure supp à chaque fois mais on compte sur la bonne réactivité de tout le monde.
Nous avons conscience qu'à 15 ce ne sera pas facile : nous avons déjà fait des road trip au Québec et en Sicile
pour Yosemite : ne peut-on pas dormir à Yosemite Village? ça nous éviterait de faire la route le 10 au matin
Pour Las Vegas je suis d'accord avec vous : vendredi pas top car c'est le we mais nous n'avons pas trop le choix, 2 personnes repartiront le 13 pour Paris et veulent absolument faire LV c'est pour cela que nous ne pouvons pas rajouter de journée supp avant Las Vegas et au niveau budget même si c'est plus cher ça devrait passer ...
sur la fin nous pensions faire ça :
18 : visite grand Canyon fin d'aprèm départ pour kingman nuit à kingman
19 : départ pour Las Vegas outlet à Las Vegas avant de reprendre l'avion
nous pensions prendre l'avion à partir de las vegas car c'est moins loin que LA par rapport au grand canyon
pour le passage par new york c'est au cas ou nous prendrions un AR paris-new york + vols internes et non des vols multidestinations
nous pensions repartir le vendredi soir et non le samedi matin car cela nous ferait arriver le samedi soir sur paris (nuit sur paris) et chacun pourrait retourner chez soi le dimanche (nous habitons un peu partout en france donc certains sur Paris)

Nous avons réussi à avoir nos billets d'avion tous en même en passant par Nouvelles Frontières (le point qui me faisait le plus peur...)
Chaque hôtel a été réservé avant le mois d'avril
et nous avons donc trouvé des chambres à chaque fois pour 17 personnes
Nous avons également réservé 3 grandes voitures

je fais partie de la bande des 17 f***ing french guys et je peux vous dire qu'on a passé des vacances extraordinaires avec des souvenirs et des images pleins la tete.
Partir à 17 avec le programme que nous nous étions imposé n'était pas gagné d'avance. Un peu d'organisation et d'anticipation et le tour est joué.
Prendre un avion a été possible en réservant 6 mois à l'avance par l'agence Nouvelles Frontières qui nécessitent une après midi pour faire les dossiers.
Pas de souci avec les hôtels également qui ont été réservés entre Février et Avril (dernier délai tout de même si on veut avoir le choix).
Organisation des plannings journaliers par petits groupes (juin-juillet) et le tour est joué!
Je vous cache pas que ça a été un peu sportif (2-3 kg de perdu malgré la bouffe en quantité) mais cela ne nous a pas empêché de se détendre au bord de piscines et jacuzzi ou autour d'un verre entre potes.
Nous essaierons de vous détailler notre programme. Nous avons pu faire tous ceux que nous voulions et cela sans faire de remake de "petits meurtres entre amis" :)

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
