Pour nos dix ans de mariage, mon épouse et moi retournons aux états-unis (nous avions passé notre lune de miel dans l'ouest américain en juin 200).
Cette fois-ci, nous allons nous promener sur la côte est de New York à miami.
J'ai une idée assez précise de notre périple et le vol est déja réservé (du 7 au 23 juin 2010) je sais c'est assez tôt mais comme je prenais les billets avec mes miles air-france, j'ai déja eu du mal à trouver avec eux des dates de disponibles (surtout pour le retour de miami)
Pour ce voyage, j'ai bien sur quelques intérogations qui me viennent et plutôt que d'ouvrir un sujet pour chacunes d'elles, je me dis qu'il serait peut-être plus intéressant de tout regrouper dans un seul. Je pense donc alimenter ce sujet au fur et à mesure de l'avance des préparatifs, et si tout cela peut servir à quelqu'un d'autre, cela n'en sera que mieux !
Comme on aime pas trop rester à la mème place, ne vous étonnez pas si on bouge souvent :-)
Voici ma roadmap à ce jour :
jour 0 : arrivée à New York JFK à 21h10
jour 1 : NY (Central Park + Museum d'histoire naturelle)
jour 2 : NY (ellis island, liberty island, visites diverses, spectable broadway le soir)
jour 3 : NY (matin), récupération voiture de loc, trajet NY==> Washington (après midi) pas washington mème, mais un petit bled un peu avant( à chercher)
jour 4 : Washington (capitol, maison blanche, etc ... en restant dans ce coin là) fin d'après-midi direction un hotel un peu après washington(1h max)
jour 5 : trajet washington ==> gatlinburg (great smoky mountains) assez tot le matin pour espérer arriver en milieu/fin d'après-midi (faisable ??)
jour 6 : Smoky mountains, faire cades cove en vélo en matin, après-midi trajet vers Atlanta en traversant les smoky mountains
jour 7 : Atlanta : Aquarium de géorgie, World of coca, tour turner(CNN)
jour 8 : Atlanta : matin musée de la guerre civile américaine, après-midi ==> trajet vers Savannah (hotel du coté de savannah)
jour 9 : matin : visite centre de savannah, après-midi trajet vers orlando pour arriver à un hotel à orlando en fin de journée
jour 10 : Orlando : Seaworld
jour 11 : Orlando : Universal studios (déja fait en californie et nous avions adoré !)
jour 12 : matin : orlanda ==> Cap Canaveral, visite de la nasa, après-midi trajet vers Miami
jour 13 : Miami (miami beach, quartier Art-déco) le soir un petit rest sympa à little havanna
jour 14 : Everglades, visite d'une ferme à croco, airboat, ... hotel le soir du coté de Homestead ou un peu plus au sud
jour 15 : matin (tôt) : trajet jusqu'a Key West, reste de la journée sur key West (musée hemingway, coucher de soleil)
jour 16 : matin : key West ==> aéroport de Miami pour un décollage à 17h35
Bon, c'est chargé, c'est assez speed, mais c'est un peu comme ça qu'on aime les vacances. Je reste cependant "aware" à tous vos conseils ou remarques !!

J'ai trouvé un petit hotel qui me va tout à fait à NY : Days inn Long Island. Pour 3 nuits :
Expedia, hotels.com, voyage-sncf : ils me proposent tous envirron 212 € pour 3 nuits (payable à la réservation)
Or, en allant directement sur le site de la chaine Days inn et en réservant, cela revient à $249, 07 donc un peu plus de 170 € au cours du jour
Cela aparait donc plus intéressant de passer directement par la centrale de réservation Days inn et puis cela permet d'arriver à l'hotel avec un document de réservation à leur norme, en Anglais et avec leurs propres références (ce qui doit être plus pratique pour eux en cas de souci plutôt qu'un document émis par un intermédiaire)
Mon souci est le suivant, pour pouvoir réserver sur le site de Days inn, il faut mettre un numéro de carte bancaire pour garantir la réservation (normal), or ... et là ça se complique !! :-) ... ma carte bleu (mastercard) est utilisée avec le service Virtualis du CMB, cela me permet de créer des e-card et de protéger mon numéro réel sur Internet (celui-ci ne peut servir à payer sur le net) et une carte virtuel n'a une durée de validité que de deux mois ...
Donc, si je réserve avec une e-card, la durée de validité de celle-ci sera inférieure à la date prévur pour la réservation ... problème non ?
Je me suis dis, c'est pas grave je vais prendre celle de ma femme ... et là re-drame, la durée de validité de sa carte (sans virtualis celle-ci) est jusqu' a janvier simplement, donc pas bon non plus !!
quelques questions pour les pro du genre :
Puis-je réserver quand mème avec une carte dont la date de validité sera dépassée au moment de l'arrivée à l'hotel ?
Puis-je réserver avec une e-card et payer ensuite en cash l'hotel sur place au check-out ?
Puis-je demander à ma banque d'anticiper le renouvellement d'une carte bleu pour que celle-ci soit bien valide pour la période du séjour et ce afin de réserver pas mal de chose en avance via des paiements sur Internet (parcs d'attraction, hotels, etc ... )
Dans tous les cas, je mettrais à jour ce sujet avec les avancées de mes préparatifs (ça va être sportif !!! 🤪 )

Nous partons Lundi prochain nous avons réservé hotels et voiture au moyen d'ECARd et nous payrons avec la Visa premier nous l'avons déja fait pas de probléme l'Ecard est juste une garantie sinon appellez la centrale de réservation et donnez leur votre numéro de CB par téléphone nous le faisons pour la réservation d'hôtel au Mexique et en Créte
Impec, merci ça me rassure. C'est pratique le principe des e-cards, mais ça devient vite galère dans certains cas, du fait que la carte utilisée pour le service qui créé ces cartes virtuelles n'est plus utilisable directement sur internet.
Quand vous avez réservé avec une écard c'était combien de temps à l'avance ? la durée de validité de l'ecard était-elle dépassée avant le voyage ?
Bien, j'ai avancé un peu sur l'organisation du début du voyage.
Suite aux nombreux conseils (avisé) que j'ai pu lire sur ce forum, j'ai opté pour des réservations d'hotels directement sur les sites web propriétaires de ces hôtels, il est vrai qu'il est beaucoup plus rassurant de partir là-bas avec un document de réservation de chaque hôtel avec leur numéro de réservation et toutes leurs références plutôt que d'arriver avec le document d'un intermédiaire.
Petits changements dans la roadmap que je mets à jours dans le premier message (a ben non, car je peux plus modifier le premier message 🤪 )
Donc, j'ai réservé les hotels pour les premiers jours :
- 3 nuits à NY, dans l'hotel Days Inn Long Island (Queens) : 7-8-9 juin
- 1 nuit à Silver Spring en banlieu proche de Washington : 10 juin
- 1 nuit un peu après Washington (pour s'avancer un peu du long trajet du lendemain) à Front Royal en Virginie : 11 juin
Saviez-vous que les Days Inns font partie de la chaîne hôtelière Wyndham? Pour chaque séjour dans l'un de leurs établissements, vous accumulez des points que vous pouvez transformer en récompenses?
Il suffit de s'inscrire auprès de la chaîne (c'est gratuit). Si je me rappelle bien, vous gagnez 13 pts pour chaque dollar dépensé dans le cadre de séjours dans un hôtel participant.
Si vous êtes intéressé, pour s'inscrire allez sur wyndhamrewards.com. Ils ont même un dépliant en français qu'ils m'ont fait parvenir, très bien traduit d'ailleurs.
Mais non, pourquoi serait-il trop tard? Regardez ce lien . Vous n'avez pas séjourné encore dans les Days Inns, peut-être est-ce au moment du départ que vos points vous sont remis. Vous pouvez ensuite suivre vos points en ligne. Il faut naturellement vous inscrire et vous recevrez un numéro de membre.
Vous pouvez toujours retourner sur vos réservations (faites via la centrale des Days Inns ou sur chaque hôtel individuellement?) et mentionner aux hôtels concernés que vous êtes maintenant membre de Wyndhamrewards.com
Donc au niveau de mon programme, je reste deux journée pleines sur New-York (je sais ce n'et pas faire hommage à la grande pomme, mais il y a tellement d'autres choses que je veux voir par la suite que je fais des sacrifices 😐 )
Donc sur les deux jours, voila ce que je voudrais absolument faire (en même temps il n'y a rien d'originale non plus 😉 )
- Liberty/Ellis Island
- Empire state (ou équivalent pour avoir une vue d'ensemble de New-York)
- Une ballade/déjeuner à Central Park
- Museum d'histoire naturelle (Une demi-journée, pas plus)
- ballade Broadway/time Square suivi d'un diner sur place puis d'un spectacle
Dans quel ordre il serait le plus logique de caser tout ça ? (et éventuellement d'autres choses pour combler ?)
Une journée style : matin : Liberty/Ellis islands + déjeuner Central Park(ou directement à Ellis island), ballade Central Park puis l'après-midi : Museum d'histoire naturelle, c'est jouable ?
Effectivement, je peux concevoir qu'Atlanta soit une étape moins "sexy" que d'autres en effet.
Cependant j'y ai un intérêt tout personnel : Le baseball.
Je suis un ancien joueur de baseball (pendant 15 ans) et l'équipe d'Atlanta m'a fait passé de bonnes soirées dans leur age d'or. Je serais ravi de pouvoir aller les voir jouer au turner field. (tout comme la possibilité d'un match au yankee stadium me fait autant d'effet !!! 😎 )
Et puis je suis bien obligé à un moment donné de rejoindre Miami et je me disais que Atlanta et Savannah aurait pu être des escales sympa (maintenant si ça se trouve c'est dénué d'intérêt et je serais déçu, possible !)
C'est sur que deux jours à NY de plus offriraient de belles perspectives également, c'est dur de vouloir tout voir, tout en sachant que c'est impossible 🙂

Je suis à peu près au point du jour J (7 juin 2010) jusqu'au 13 juin(pigeon forge, Tennessee), le planning des visites/ballades est prêt, les hotels sont réservés et le timing semble tenir la route. Pour les jours suivants.
Pour les hôtels, j'ai suivi les conseils de Lisedenise concernant la création d'un compte Wyndham, pour le moment je n'ai réservé que dans des hôtels adhérents à ce système.
Tout se met en place doucement, comme un puzzle, sans stress 🙂

Bon excellent, j'ai de la chance, sur les dates où je serais à NY, un des deux clubs de baseball jouera à domicile (les Mets)
donc je peux prévoir d'aller voir un match au Citi Field dans le queens.
Apparemment une station du métro 7 se trouve à coté du stade. Comme c'est un match le soir, cela veut dire retour en métro également, de la station Mets Willets (ligne 7) jusqu'à la station 33st rawson st (ligne 7) et après 5 minutes de marche jusqu'à l'hôtel. Pas de souci le soir sur ce genre de trajet ?

Circuit classique : arrivée à Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, île de Vancouver, départ de Vancouver.
Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?
Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. For those who’ve done both Lower and Upper, can you tell me if the price difference is really justified? Thanks

As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.
Everything’s booked for September—flights, accommodations, and the car. As I plan, I’ll be asking the experts for help. This is our second trip to California, but most of the stops are new to us.

Cinder Cone and Painted Dunes (Day 4)
Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

Just a little post that might interest some of you:
Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.
