Ensuite, je file sur Ushuaïa en évitant la panaméricaine. Retour prévu pour la mi-novembre au plus tard.
Je suis preneur de toutes infos concernant les entrées dans les pays traversés (visas, autorisations, etc...) ainsi que la prise d'assurances pour la moto.
Je n'ai encore rien booké pour le retour. Apparemment trop tôt, pour le billet retour à partir de Buenos Aires. Mon billet retour sera pris courant de l'hiver.
Pour la moto, rien de fait non plus. J'ai une adresse à Buenos Aires et je me pose la question d'attendre d'être sur place pour l'acheminement en bateau ou en avion cargo. Si vous aveuz des infos...

La sté s'est chargée de récupérer par transport routier, la moto chez moi (Haute Savoie) et de l'acheminer à Londres.
Ensuite par avion de Londres à Anchorage. Pas de problème, les dates ont été respectées. (20 jours de délais). J'ai récupéré la moto emballée correctement au fret de l'aéroport le 4 mai et j'étais le 8 mai à Prudhoe Bay avec des t° de -12 à -16. C'était très tôt en saison, mais c'est passé avec un final sur une piste enneigée.
Le retour a été un peu plus compliqué. Avion de Buenos Aires à Londres avec 1 mois de blocage par la douane argentine malgré la validation des papiers chez un notaire...
A l'heure actuelle, la moto est à Londres depuis 3 semaines et j'attends son retour par transporteur routier chez moi. Cela commence a être bien long à mon goût !!!
C'est le meilleur devis que j'ai trouvé environ 5000€ A&R (le prix bouge en fonction du taux de change de la GBP).
Pour info, un transitaire de l'aéroport de Lyon m'a donné un tarif de 18000€ uniquement pour l'aller. Je devais amener la moto à Marseille. Et ensuite, un bateau devait prendre en charge la moto jusqu'à Vancouver avec environ 41 jours de transport ??? de l'arnaque....
Attention pour le transfert du Panama à la Colombie. Au port de Colon, le meilleur tarif proposé à été de 1400 $. Je devais payer la valeur du container à moi seul ?!?!? des bandits...
Finalement, j'ai acheminé la moto par avion de Panama City jusqu'à Bogota et cela m'a coûté 750$...
Si tu parles espagnol, débrouilles toi pour effectuer les papiers de dédouanement seul. Cela te permettra d'économiser de l'argent au Panama.
Je me suis fait une aventure extraordinaire de 4 mois.

de Fairbanks à Prudhoe Bay, c'est la Dalton Highway ou (Elliott). Cette piste longe le pipeline qui arrive à Valdez.
La piste démarre de Livengood avec environ 650 kms jusqu'à Prudhoe Bay. Quelques parties sont goudronnées en bon état pour des endroits et d'autres endroits défoncés...
Il faudrait mieux de la piste tout le long afin de rester vigilant. Sur le goudron, tu as tendance à rouler plus vite et te relâcher... avec des nids "d ours" qui te surprennent ! (En Alaska, il y a longtemps que les poules ont désertées ces nids 🙂)
En cas de pluie, tu dois avoir juste pieds 😉.
Au niveau des pneus, j'avais monté des pneus firestone avec des pavés. Sur ma vielle harley de 2003, la jante arrière est en 16 pouces et j'avais un jeu complet de pneus d'avance.
Lorsque j'ai rencontré la neige et les ornières, les 2 pieds par terre et une allure réduite ont suffit. Cela a été très chaud par moment avec une chute quand même.
Au niveau de la tenue, j'avais une tenue de ski "professionnel" avec des sous vêtements Odlo. Je travaille en station et j'ai fait le bon choix. Polaire de qualité et micro doudoune sous le coupe vent de ski.
Sur la fin, j'ai mis une combinaison de pluie doublée de polaire. Il faut prendre large et tester avant. Sinon, tu vas te retrouver engoncé dans tes vêtements avec une liberté de mouvements réduite.
Maintenant 4 mois de voyage suffisent, si tu ne t'attardes pas trop...
Je suis passé par l'Alaska Highway. J'ai fais un crochet par Yellostone et par Rhusmore. Je suis resté une semaine à Mexico. 3 jours à Managua chez des amis et au fil des rencontres 48h à droite ou à gauche.
En tout 28000 kms ce qui fait une moyenne de 250 kms jours.. J'ai roulé quelquefois 750 kms/jour sur les grands highways des states et d'autres fois des petites journées à 150 kms.
J'ai évité au maximun les grandes villes et capitales. C'est l'enfer et "très chaud" en moto à cause du trafic.
Si j'avais eu plus d'argent, je ne serais pas encore rentré, mais.... $$$$$$
J'ai utilisé beaucoup la tente de camping ! Difficile de me payer l'hôtel...
Compte tenu aussi de mon boulot, je ne pouvais pas partir dans les périodes d'été austral. C'est comme ça que je me suis retrouvé bloqué par la neige à Ushuaïa au mois d'août en plein hiver austral.
Au niveau de l'aventure en elle-même, le moment le plus chaud a été un braquage en règle au Mexique sur une petite route. Trop long à raconter, mais je m'en suis bien tiré grace à la maîtrise de l'espagnol .

Je pense faire toute la panaméricaine en solo en 2018: Je vais voyager avec ma moto que je dois exporter sur les usa ou canada. Peux-tu me donner des infos concernant les assurances RC obligatoires que tu as contracter d'abord aux usa ou canada et ensuite en traversant les pays jusqu'en argentine.
En ce qui concerne les assurances moto, j'ai contracté la couverture pour les States (Alaska inclus) et le Canada auprès de la Cie Tourinsure à Hamburg. Tu trouveras les coordonnées sur le net. De mémoire, il me semble avoir payé dans les 250 € avec des contrats valables 3 mois de date à date.
Pour les autres pays du Mexique à l'Argentine, il y a beaucoup de pays ou l'assurance n'est pas obligatoire. A toi de voir si tu veux t'assurer...
Pour les pays dont l'assurance est obligatoire, tu peux en général prendre un contrat (pas cher) à la frontière. J'avais trouvé, sur le net, la liste des pays qui oblige la couverture.
Pour info, j'ai eu un seul vrai contrôle de police au Honduras. Ils ont vérifié tous les papiers , sans rien y comprendre... Je leur ai fait la traduction !!! En fait, le flic qui m'a contrôlé, voulait parler avec moi concernant la cylindrée de la moto, pourquoi je faisais ce voyage, comment était la France, etc... Il m'a demandé si je pouvais lui offrir une cigarette.
J'ai eu d'autres contrôles en Argentine dans la pampa pour des raisons de sécurité. Tu risque de parcourir plusieurs centaines de Kms (3 ou 400) avec peu de circulation et de pompes à essence. La police se contente de noter ta plaque et l'heure de passage afin de vérifier en cas de problème si tu a passé le contrôle suivant... Ils ne m'ont jamais demandé les papiers de la moto, mais seulement mon passeport.
Au niveau des douanes, il faudra être patient, voir très patient, avec des files d'attente interminables.
L'entrée au Chili et au Mexique est galère. Ce sont les seuls qui m'ont tout fait déballé (y compris déplié la tente de camping...) !!!$
Penses à bien conserver sur toi, le formulaire d'exportation temporaire EPA (valable en principe 3 mois) que tu remplira et fera tamponner à l'entrée de chaque pays. Il te sera demandé à la sortie.
Si tu débutes ton trip par l'Alaska, il faut que tu demandes ce formulaire à www.epa.gouv (formulaire sur le net). Ensuite ton transitaire s'occupera de tout. Tu récupéreras ce formulaire tamponné à ton arrivée. Tu le laisseras à la prochaine douane. Tu en rempliras un autre et ainsi de suite à chaque changement de pays.
Si tu rapatries la moto à partir de l'Argentine, il faut que tu fasses faire la traduction de tout les papiers (y compris les pages vierges et les couvertures du passeport !) par un notaire (environ 50 US$). Malgré cela, les douaniers voulaient un backchich afin d'accélérer la procédure. Je n'ai pas voulu payer et le transitaire n'a pu faire partir la moto qu'un mois plus tard.

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Next October we’re planning to ride the Ruta de la Plata by motorcycle—a historic Spanish route that runs from Gijón to Seville, also known as the N630.
Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.
