Je voudrais savoir si certains d'entre vous connaissent le grossiste Go Travel Direct ainsi que le transporteur Zoom Airlines (compagnie ontarienne). salut toi, je ne connais pas personnellement go travel et zoom, mais g connu des gens en voyage qui avait réservé par ça. ils ont eu un peu de problème avec eux... il avait réservé du 1 au 8 janvier et le 24 decembre, go travel les a appelé pour dire qu'ils avaient décidé d'annuler le vol et soit il reportait soit il remboursait. c bizarre qu'une compagnie décide d'annuler un vol comme ça. ils avaient pas de raison vraiment. mais a part ça ils ont eu du bon service. j'espère que ça t'éclairera un peu. bye! redonne moi z'en des news!
Tout dabord je voudrais vous dire que j'ai personnellement réservé avec Go Travel Direct pour la semaine de relâche et ce pour la première fois.
J'ai des amis à moi qui sont revenus ce matin avec une heure de retard mais à part cela tout fut ok.
Il faut comprendre que la firme Go Travel Directe ont leur propre cie aérienne au nom de Zoom Airlines.
La flotte n'est pas aussi grosse qu'avec Transat ou Air Cnanada, mais parconte tout aussi fonctionnel avec leurs boeing 767, alors s'il y a bris ou supposition de bris avec un appareil, aucune chance n'est prises et il n'est pas assuré qu'un autre appareil arrivera de suite pour prendre la relève.

J'ai pris le transporteur Zoom Airlines en mars 2004 (départ de Halifax). J'ai été très satisfaite et je peux même dire que la bouffe était acceptable pour une bouffe d'avion. ON m'avait même fait le commentaire que c'était mieux que d'autres transporteurs. De plus, Zoom n'avait eu aucun retard. Par contre, je n'avais pas acheté mon billet au travers de gotravel.

Je peux te dire que j'ai réservé deux fois avec Go Travel Direct (une première fois en Mars 2004 pour un voyage à Santa Lucia et une deuxième fois en Novembre 2004 pour Varadero) et que chaque fois j'ai été plus que satisfaite de leur service. Les représentants sont toujours là pour nous aider et nous donne même leur numéro en cas d'urgence. Pour ce qui est de Zoom airline j'ai bien aimé voyager avec cette compagnie. Il n'y a pas de première classe comme telle mais les premiers sièges sont "extra long legs" comme on dit. La première fois que j'ai voyagé j'avais le siège no. 6 et c'était super. La deuxième fois j'ai eu le siège 14 et si on te l'offre, ne le prend pas car il n'y a pas de hublot !
Somme toute, j'ai été très satisfaite de mes deux voyages fait avec eux.
J'arrive ce soir de Varadero par GoTravelDirect et Zoom Air Lines.
J'avais un peu peur de cette compagnie que je ne connaissais pas. Eh bien, j'avais tort.
Tout a été parfait, l'avion neuf, le personnel courtois, la ponctualité du vol et même le repas, bien meilleur que sur Air Transat (je suis d'accord que ce n'est pas difficile).
Le représentant de GoTravelDirect était très disponible et répondait gentiment à toutes les questions.
Il est certain que je vais prendre Zoom pour aller en Europe la prochaine fois.
Bonjour, une de mes amies est arrivée hier de Santa Lucia et elle était avec Go Travel sur Zoom. Elle était très satisfaite de son vol (malgré les heurs un peu désagéable; départ de Montréal a 21h40 arrivé a son hôtel a 5h00 du matin, avec le changement d'heure et le tralala de l'aéroport), mais le service en vol des plus courtois et il parait que la nourriture était très bonne. Ils on même eu droit a une petite bouteille de vin rouge pendand le repas de l'aller qui a été servis vers minuit)
le seul hic le représentant de Go Traval a Santa Lucia. Il paraît qu'il a l'air un peu blazé et ne réponds pas très bien aux questions qu'on lui pose.
Je quitte moi même le 29 janvier pour le Gran Club Santa Lucia, réservé avec GO travel et Zoom et j'ai eu un très bon prix. $799.00 tout inclus!!
J`ai en ce moment une mauvaise expérience avec Zoom Airlines. J`arrive de vacance de la République Dominicaine Puerto Plata, le 15 janvier 2005 et je n`ai jamais reçu ma valise et un autre couple était dans la même situation, leur valise est resté à Dorval. Moi et mon conjoint n`avait plus de vêtement, pas de costume de bain, pas de crème de protection, pas de brassière, pas de brosse à dents, pas de sandales, pas de culottes... et on n`a jamais eu de réponse de Zoom airlines de la semaine au sujet de notre valise. La valise était sur un autre vol, direction Punta Cana à 3 heures de notre hôtel et rien n`a été fait pour recevoir nos valises. On a dû magasiner à chaque jour des vêtements qui coûtaient les yeux de la tête. Une culotte homme ou femme(bobette blanche ordinaire) coûte 280 pesos donc 14$ canadiens à Cabarette, des factures très salées pour habiller 2 personnes qui égale le prix de notre voyage!! Une représentante de Go travel nous a dit qu`on avait droit à 35$ canadien par jour comme compensasion. Mais rendu chez nous, Zoom Airlines nous offre seulement un maigre 100$ US et Go travel affirme toujours qu`on a droit à notre 35$ par jour. Un voyage gâché à faire du magasinage, l`enfer des vendeurs qui nous lâchent pas, les essayages de vêtements sans profiter du soleil. Lorsque nous somme arrivés à Dorval, nous avons entendus 2 heures pour pouvoir parler à un représentant de Zoom Airlines. Ils n`ont pas de bureau pour le service à la clientèle, seulement leur cellulaire et leur sac, mais encore là aucun service, aucune aide, aucune réponse, seulement un numéro de fax!!? Je dis une courte histoire de cette mauvaise expérience, mais je pourrais vous en faire un roman!
Je viens de recevoir un email, de Zoom Airlines pour me dire qu`il vont me répondre dans 28 jours ouvrables, pour répondre à ma plainte. J`aimerais savoir si vous connaissez quelqu`un qui ont vécu une mauvaise expérience, en tout cas je ne le vous souhaite pas, mais dites-leurs qu`ils communiquent avec moi, car d`autres sont dans la même situation. Je dois dire que je fais partie de ceux qui ont été appelés le 23 décembre pour le voyage du 1 au 8 janvier à Cuba (Santa Lucia). Après explications, nous avons su (renseignement confirmé par plusieurs sources) que la raison pour laquelle ils ont du appeler des gens c'est qu'il y avait 22 place de moins dans l'avion. Pourquoi ? Très simple, Zoom airlines avait commandé un nouvel avion de Boeing (767). Lorsque l'avion est arrivé, il n'avait pas la bonne configuration, ils l'ont donc retourné et ont pris un de leur ancien avion qui avait 22 places de moins. Comme les réservations avaient été prises pour le nouvel avion, il y avait 22 personnes de trop.
Donc c'est la faute à Boeing, mais bon c'est des choses qui arrivent. C'est sur que c'est plate, mais le service du représentant de Go Travel a été excellent et a tout fait pour me rappeler la journée même (avant Noel) pour me confirmer mon départ. Le service sur Zoom airlines est EXCELLENT. Même la bouffe est bonne. Je n'ai vraiment rien à leur reprocher, les vols étaient à l'heure, même qu'on a atterrit à l'avance à Dorval, mais on a du attendre 15 min dans l'avion parce que les douanes ouvrent seulement à 7 h.
Pour ce qui est de l'hôtel (Brisas Santa Lucia), tout était bien, mais ce n'est pas égal dans toutes les chambres. Exemple, on avait 28 postes de télés et certains en avaient 4. Dans l'ensemble, le service était bon sauf au restaurant buffet, ou le service était moyen. Un conseil: emmenez avec vous des trucs de beauté (petit échantillons)pour les femmes de chambre. Moi j'avais emmené un paquet d'échantillons Yves Rocher et on a eu un super service. Et ne vous en faites pas, le rythme de vie est lent là-bas, mais ça fait partie de la game. Recommandation: L'excursion à la Playa Bonita en catamaran vaut VRAIMENT la peine. Et tout le monde ou presque comprend l'anglais, alors pas besoin de parler parfaitement espagnol, mais c'est le fun pour eux quand on sait quelques mots.
Moi et mon épouse venont juste d'arriver de la République Dominicaine La Romana (12 Février 2005). Nous avions réservé un forfait de 7 jours à Ocean Arc Decameron 3.5 étoiles (a 1.2 heures d'autobus de la Romana) et voyagant avec Zoom Airlines. Voici notre expérience:
Delai de 12.5 heures pour le départ de Dorval. L'avion de Zoom Airlines a été retenu pour une vérification de moteur. Nous devions partir à 9:00am et nous sommes partis qu'à 21:30 à bord d'un appareil de Air Transat et donc nous sommes arrivés vers 3:00am.
Arrivée à l'hôtel, quasiment toutes les personnes ont dû changer de chambres (2 a 5 fois) pour insalubrité, non fonctionalité, etc. Il y même des gens ont eu des chambres et il y avait des gens de coucher dans le lit ou la chambre n'avait pas été faite. C'était le bordel au "Front desk". Pour ma part, l'agent de Go Travel Direct était désolé mais ne faisait rien, j'ai dû payer un petit pourboire pour avoir une autre chambre acceptable dans le contexte du moment.
La nourriture était affreuse, pas de variété, quand il n'y en avait plus on nous répétait manyana (demain), il manquait de vaisselle on attendait toujours pour des tasses, un grille-pain qui ne grillait pas beaucoup pour tout le complexe, personnel pas acceuillant, cuisine et aire de service malpropre, etc etc
Plage avec vue sur des troncs d'arbes qui flottaient dans la mer et échoués sur les récifs de corail ou sur le bord de la plage, senteur nausé-abonde sur le bord de la plage, fond de mer vaseux, eau opaque avec plein de choses en suspension, quantité de chaises de plages plus que limitée et celles qui étaient la était dans un piteux état (très sales et/ou brisées). Il en était de même avec les chaises à la piscine. La piscine était très bien. Il fallait se batre pour avoir des serviettes de plage.
Les restaurants à la carte était un peu mieux mais un des trois était en rénovation et les deux autres très très difficilles a réserver. On a découvert qu'il fallait payer par en-dessous de la table pour les reserver. On attendait de 7:00am a 8:00am pour le soir mème pour se faire dire qu'il n'y avait plus de place alors que j'étais le premier en ligne.
L'animation laissait a desirer, 3 fois le meme spectable nen 7 jours
Le comptoir du bar exterieur prés de la piscine sentait mauvais.
J'ai demandé au "Front desk" combien d'étoiles avait ce resort et il m'a répondu 1.5 étoiles maximum et il était sérieux.
Retour a temps avec Zoom Airlines et un tres bon service
Je considère m'avoir fait avoir. J'ai acheté a un très bon prix un forfait de 3.5 etailes et je n'ai pas eu plus de 2 étoiles. Je me fous des etoiles, 2, 3, 4 ou 5 il y a des choses de base a respecter comme la salubrité, des chambres fonctionnelles, une plage et de l'eau propre, des services qui ne s'équise pas, le personnel courtois et souriant.....C'est la responsbilité de l'agence de voyage a vérifier l'état des resort que l'on nous vend. Les deux semaines avant moi, c'etait encore pire au dires des gens qui en étaient à leur deuxieme semaine les pauvres.
Moi je ne voyagerai plus avec Go Travel Direct. J'ai d'ailleurs l'intention d'envoyer une mise en demeure pour non livraison du forfait que j'ai acheté
Je suis vraiment désolé pour toi, c'est vraiment plate d'avoir ce genre d'expérience et je te conseille de faire une mise en demeure. Peu importe la compagnie avec laquelle on voyage, on doit avoir ce pour quoi on a payé.
Par contre, c'est sûr que c'est une mauvaise expérience, mais je continue à dire que moi mon voyage a été extraordinaire et mes beaux-parents arrive de la République avec Go travel et ils sont très satisfaits de leur voyage.
Je compatis et j'espère que ça ira mieux lors de tes prochains voyages.
Je suis désole pour le voyage et comprend que tu soit choquer je te conseille d’écrire une lettre a Gotravel Direct a propos de cette Hôtel, et ils vont l’enlever dans leur site de destination malheureusement tu n`as pas été chanceux mais cette Hôtel n’avais jamais été bien cote et apprécie par d’autre forum a cause de la plage c’est la raison pour le prix qui est bas mais il a des gens qui aime cette endroit
Pour la chaleur et le magasinage, J’ai fait plusieurs voyages soit Cuba ou RD, Mexique, Etc. Il faut s’attendre a des surprise l’Hôtel soit des retards ou stress de voyage soit inquiétude pour l’hôtel ou le transport, Mais pour l’Hôtel avec 5 Étoiles c’est rare que tu te plein mais la plage C’est autre chose.
Pour le problème de Zoom
Il avait une maintenance sur un moteur et la maintenance a été plus longue que prévus C’est la raison que plusieurs retard et escale par d’autre personne durant cette période, et ils ont pris le service d’une autre compagnie d’aviation, ce qui n’a pas été facile pour trouver un avion. Parce L’importance pour Zoom est La sécurité et la qualité du service du personnel, c’est une nouvelle compagnie et sont premier vol dans le Sud a partir de Montréal et Quebec.
Quand ont voyage ont peut s’attendre a des choses, ce n’est pas toujours le paradis

Je n'ai pas personnellement essayé ce transporteur, mais j'ai une amie, qui vient d'aller à Cuba (Novembre 2005) en départ de Mtl et elle n'était qu'enthousiamée par le service de cette compagnie aérienne. Semble t'il que Zoom Airlines surpasse certaines compagnies très reconnues au niveau du service dans l'avion. Je ne sais pas concernant go Travel direct par contre.
Il y a des truques a comprendre
Un service d achat par Internet n est pas un outil pour tous ….il faut comprendre que si l utilisateur n a pas l esprit Internet et ne sait pas comment faire certaine recherche ou a carrément peur de l informatique et que juste utilisé une carte bancaire représente un stress ….ben la qu il aille chez le marchant du coin et chez l agent …
Il faut comprendre qu il y a de économie a faire mais aussi il fait travaillé un peu aussi faire certaine recherche par nous même ..
Par exemple La personne qui achète un voyage sur le net et prend le premier du bord …parce qu’il n est pas cher et ne vérifie rien et ce plain par la suite…je regrette …mais ça me donne a penser a ma vielle tante fausse bourgeoise guindée 🤪qui retourne le vin au restaut que pour ce faire voir et faire sa Jos connaissant…
Allez sur un site de grossiste de voyage prenez un voyage a votre choix copier/coller le nom de l hôtel sur la bar de recherche et allez voir son historique et commentaires sur des forums entre autre etc…
Si vous constatez qu il a plus de gens qui disent que ça vos pas de la snober et qu on y mange de la m….…ect …ect…alors choisissez autre chose ….si vous ne faites pas cette démarche …Ou alors vivez avec votre choix …c est pas la faute du grossiste ...c est la votre 😕

J'ai personnellement utilisé Zoom et je dois retourner en Europe cet été et j'ai a nouveau réservé avec cette cie. Par rapport à Air Transat c'est beaucoup plus confortable et les agents sont supers gentils.
Quant à Go travel Direct, j'ai rencontré des dirigeant d'Ottawa et c'est un agence des plus fiables à mon avis. Je pense partir au Mexique en fevrier et partir avec Zoom et Go travel.
En résumé: Zoom airline est une très bonne CIe charter, go travel personnellemnt je lui fais confiance.

Je ne sais pas si cela peux t'aider mais bon, je reviens d'un séjour de 7 jours de la république dominicaine avec go travel direct et le tout a super bien été, boeing 767 équipe agréable en plus du repas durant le vol ce que beaucoup de compagnie aérienne n'offre plus maintenant, nos réservations ont été fait par l'entremise de l'internet et tout était ok a l'aéroport.
Lorsque nous étions rendu sur place, ils nous remettent une enveloppe à la réception de l'hotel avec toutes les infos pertinentes et un no de téléphone d'urgence pour contacter notre agent.
Donc c'était beau bon et pas cher et si je devais recommencer l'expérience une autre fois pour une autre destination je n'hésiterais pas une seconde à moin que la compagnie ai des problèmes financiers.

Allo Lyvie, j'ai voyagé avec zoom airlines, et j'avais aucune idée moi non plus qui était cette compagnie aérienne et j'étais un peu méfiante, mais j'ai été vraiment surpris par la qualité de leur service, de la nourriture qui était excellente et de la gentillesse du personnel.
JE POURRAIS MÊME DIRE QUE CE FUT LE PLUS BEAU VOL QUE J'AI FAIT DE TOUTES LES COMPAGNIES AÉRIENNES AVEC LESQUELLES JAI VOYAGÉ, COMPTE TENUE DE LA CLASSE ÉCONOMIQUE BIEN SUR.

Cela fait déjà deux fois que j'utilise Go travel direct et zoom airlines.
Le service des représentants à destination est excellente sinon mieux que des grossistes comme Transat et bien d'autres. Zoom comme compagnie aérienne est excellente le personnel est courtois et parle un peu français.
Je vous le recommande à chaque fois j'ai eu de très belles vacances et le prochain voyage va être surement avec go travel.
J'ai utilisé les services de GoTravelDirect l'an dernier pour un voyage à Cuba et tout a été parfait, les avions de Zoom Airlines sont aussi très confortables.

Si tu fais confiance à Go travel Direct, assure toi d'avoir fais des démarches auprès des agences de voyage de ta région sur l'hôtel de ton choix. J'ai personnellement fait deux voyages avec eux. Le premier je n'ai eu aucun problème par contre le second, il n'y avait aucun représentant à destination la première semaine puisque celui-ci ayant déterminé que nous n'étions que trois avec la compagnie trouvait que pour les excursions, il n'y avait que peu de possibilité de faire des profits à décider qu'il passait sa semaine ailleurs et j'avais des problèmes de puces dans mon lit. J'ai passé des vacances effroyables.
Je suis revenue de vacances complètement épuisée puisque je n'ai pratiquement pas dormi pendant deux semaines à peine quelques heures par nuit. J'ai fait des plaintes à la direction de l'hôtel puisqu'il n'y avait aucun représentant la première semaine. Lorsqu'enfin après une semaine le représentant était là, il m'a changé de chambre après deux jours de la deuxième semaine et là encore il y avait des puces. Ce fut infernal comme expérience.
Y a tu quelqu'un qui aurait entendue parlé de Go Travel Direct leurs site est fermé ou autres... se serai tu encore une autres compagnie qui a disparue...…

It's called "7 en route": seven young European journalists travel around Europe in a fully converted bus, making reports on every city they visit. It's amazing! 🙂
Yesterday, for example, they were in Rome, Italy, and the reports included things like the world's smallest restaurant—a super romantic spot for two. There was also a report on the king of paparazzi in Italy.
They have to pick topics that let us discover the little quirks of each country. And at the end of each episode, we get to see the finished report.
It's such a great show, mixing journalism, travel, and discovery—basically, a must-watch!

After a quarter without dragging my slippers around here, even though I’d loudly declared I had no interest left in this site, here I am again!
My imagination never stays fallow for long. Just enough time for my inner land to rest. It gets overgrown with fresh nettles, the kind you can pick without getting stung. Then, it’s time to till the fragrant earth and let the story grow.
I hesitated over where to set this story.
Maybe the Highlands, maybe the Hebrides, maybe the Orkney Islands, maybe the Shetland Islands. All of Scotland is myth—easy to embroider.
But in the end, no. I’d almost be too afraid to bare my soul.
The story will take place at home. Simple, practical.

This morning, I was up well before dawn, feeling a bit grumpy, but nothing a bowl of coffee won’t fix. I love my bowl, and no one dares take it. It’s porcelain, edged with intertwined blue flowers. On the bottom, it says "Revol." The factory has existed long before the Revolution. It was my great-grandmother’s bowl. She drank roasted barley from it during the war, then her Leroux chicory.
Last year, a little guy dropped it. My bowl broke into three pieces. A black anger vibrated deep inside me. The little boy was so upset, on the verge of tears. How could I scold him!
I picked up the three pieces and took Little Boy in my arms. His hair smelled of the light, sweet sweat of toddlers. A gentle hug that healed—his budding sorrow and my anger—everything vanished, and time carried on.
Today, my bowl is even prettier. Man fixed it using the traditional kintsugi technique, except he didn’t use gold powder or lacquer but superglue, and he delicately painted the cracks with woad blue. And my bowl is even more beautiful now.
I’m lingering, I can tell—it’s just that a story wraps itself in life, and life can’t be told in the snap of a finger. Life is long. Like in architecture, you start with a rough sketch, called a "sous-cul" (the initial pencil drawing), then you make a tracing, which is the work itself, the one you later carefully roll up in a wooden tube.
Life is like that: you erase, you start over, you use the nub of the pencil until it’s tiny, but you keep going—dreaming, loving.

On this forum, we talk a lot about trekking in the Himalayas, but I’d love to share another side of Nepal: its spiritual, cultural, and religious atmosphere, especially in Kathmandu.
Nepal, much like Tibet and Bhutan, is deeply connected to the Himalayas—the ultimate sacred mountain range. This small country exudes a calming vibe, shaped by a strong spiritual dimension. What I loved most was the unique sensory experience you get there. Walking around temples and tantric monasteries, a distinct scent fills the air—aromatic plants used for ritual fumigation. Locals mainly burn Himalayan juniper, cedar, sandalwood, and other local essences. This fragrant smoke is a way to purify the space and reach the deities, and you’re constantly enveloped in these aromas.
Another striking aspect is the sound. As soon as you step outside, you hear bells ringing in front of temples. People ring them three times before praying to announce their presence to the deities. Nepal is also the birthplace of singing bowls and sound meditation practices. In Kathmandu, you can easily find meditation sessions or "sound baths."
The spiritual dimension is everywhere: a Hindu sadhu practicing asceticism, a lama in deep red robes with his mala, turning a prayer wheel while murmuring "Om mani padme hum." Newar Buddhism, Tantrism, and Hinduism coexist harmoniously in daily life.

I’m planning a 3-week trip to Japan in May with Voyage Privé. The package includes a 5 GB eSIM, but my phone isn’t new enough to support it. VP told me I could buy a SIM card when I arrive at the airport.
Sure enough, I’ve seen online that this is possible with different providers.
I only need it for checking routes, looking up addresses, train schedules, etc.—basically using Google Maps, TripAdvisor, and similar apps. No heavy downloads or major internet use. All hotels should provide free Wi-Fi for that, right?
Has anyone got any tips for me on this? What have you tried, and how much did it cost?

I wanted to share a really unpleasant experience from our last trip booked with Promoséjours and organized by FTI.
We booked an 8-day/7-night stay in Egypt, from June 8 to 15.
The flight initially scheduled was changed a week before departure to take off at 10 PM from Paris CDG.
In the end, it took off with a 1-hour delay and included an unmentioned stopover in Marsa Alam.
We landed in Hurghada at 4 AM and arrived at the hotel at 6 AM.
So, we spent our first night on the plane.
For the return trip, surprise—the flight was moved up. We left the hotel at 10:30 PM on Friday the 14th to take off at 2 AM and land at 7 AM at Paris CDG.
So, we spent our last night on the plane too.
After sending a complaint letter to Promoséjours / FTI, they replied that the first and last days can be dedicated to transport (which I already knew) and that no matter how many nights you book, you’re not guaranteed to spend them in the hotel—it could just as well be on the plane.
I’m really questioning this.
Isn’t there a law that protects customers in cases like this?
Because when I do the math, the first and part of the second day were spent on transport, same for the second-to-last and last day. And I paid for 7 nights for a stay that only lasted 5.
Anyway, I just want to say thanks to them—thanks to their two sleepless nights in transit, I’m coming back even more exhausted from a trip that was supposed to be restful!
I also want to warn anyone booking through this agency about visas for Egypt.
At booking, they told me the visa was included in the price, then they sent me an email saying I’d have to pay for it on-site at 25 €.
Once there, we were directed to a special line for FTI customers, and guess what? They charged us 30 €!
Basically, they’re great at making sure you *enjoy* your vacation—mostly by enjoying your wallet!
If anyone has dealt with this kind of situation and won their case, I’m all ears.

So I thought I’d get a Thai SIM card to use Google Maps for getting around cities, mostly.
Here’s my question: will this SIM affect my apps? Or will they work the same as with my Orange SIM?
Is there any setup I need to do, or can I just pop in the Thai SIM?
I’d also like to switch back to my Orange SIM now and then while I’m in Thailand—on the same phone. Will I need to reset the phone, or will it reconnect without any issues?

I’m reaching out to all travelers and globe-trotters on this forum. I’m a teacher in Creuse working in a ULIS program (which welcomes children aged 6 to 12 with disabilities into a mainstream school). This year, I’m launching a school journal project that will involve the kids in many different topics. A big part of this journal will focus on opening up to the world, embracing differences, travel, global cultures, and more.
I’m putting out a call to invite as many of you as possible to send us a postcard (from France or anywhere in the world)! The goal is to help us "travel" and discover new places, countries, and horizons in a way that’s much more fun and exciting than a geography textbook. One section of our journal could be called "We received a letter from ," where we’d research the location and share what we learn with our readers—a really enriching activity for the classroom.
The project starts in September 2025 but doesn’t have a strict end date, since this journal and world-discovery initiative will span several school years (the kids stay in the ULIS program for multiple years). Postcards can be sent anytime—throughout the year, across seasons, even during holidays! The kids will find them when they return.
I hope this idea appeals to as many of you as possible, and that you’ll spread the word to your fellow travelers. Help us dream and explore!

Where’s Cape Vidal?
It’s in iSimangaliso, an independent park in KZN Wildlife, stunning and just a stone’s throw from St Lucia (KwaZulu-Natal, Maputaland).
It’s the beach spot at the end of the Eastern Shores road. You can swim, fish... but watch out for waves, currents, and sharks...
There’s a really nice game drive where you can get out of your car at certain points, especially at Cape Vidal.
That’s where the camp with bungalows and campsites is.
The vervets and samango monkeys (endemic to the area, and the males are pretty big) can be a bit of a nuisance if you’re trying to braai...
They’re super persistent and not shy at all—don’t let them intimidate you, and stay alert because their speed at snatching food is impressive.
Anyway...
I’m reporting two recent attacks by these hyenas... who were *not* in a playful mood...
The first one happened at night—a hyena tried to bite a camper’s nose off in their tent... and succeeded.
The other night, a camper returning to their tent in the early hours was violently attacked by two hyenas... and they had a close call!
So, if you’re camping there, be careful...
Measures are being taken, but for now, it’s a bit risky.
A white rental Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 carrying foreign tourists was attacked at the entrance of Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park in the village of Bekopaka, western Madagascar, yesterday. So far, there’s been no response from the central government to curb these repeated armed attacks—usually between Malagasy people, but this time targeting foreign tourists.
After an engine failure in mid-2016 on a long-haul flight from BRISBANE to LYON, I developed a persistent aviophobia that I’m struggling to shake off. It’s becoming more and more of a hindrance.
Up until now, I’ve been using an avoidance strategy (for example, avoiding destinations that would require any other mode of transport than a car or train), but lately, it’s become really limiting.
I’m looking for a therapist—either in-person or via video call—who could help me get past this hurdle.
First and foremost, I hope this topic won’t just focus on my region—the South of France—and that those of you who enjoy exchanging ideas will share what makes your own regions special.
Personally, I’ve often wanted to push back when people call us vulgar (though I’ll admit I sometimes play it up). At heart, we pure-blooded Southerners just have our own way of expressing ourselves, which differs from other regions. We also get heated in conversations pretty easily (some researchers say it’s the influence of the sun and climate in general).
What some perceive as vulgar, we don’t see that way at all.
Do you want a uniform world with no differences? If so, how do you handle traveling to places with cultures completely different from your own?
In the travel community, the word "authenticity" comes up a lot, and it often takes priority in people’s searches.
In my specific case, speaking a purely regional language without having gone to school for it doesn’t help with understanding on this forum. That’s what creates what you call controversies—and what I call passionate exchanges.
It left me speechless and ended the conversation because, for him, that’s just how he sees things, and he refuses to debate it, sticking to his position. I’ll quote him, hoping he won’t hold it against me:
"For me, things like bullfighting, boxing, football, and MMA are just tangible proof that human evolution is still at a primitive stage."
For him, our Latin-origin bullfights are barbaric customs. For us *taurins*, we need to see men face wild beasts (bulls and *toros*) at the risk of their lives every day. Does that make us barbarians?
We’ve always had this need to confront death—it’s in our genes.
Take the example he gave about football: fans of the sport would be considered mentally underdeveloped. But what about a kid who’s passionate about the game and has that drive to be a winner, just like a boxer or athletes in other violent sports?
As a traveler myself, passionate about old stones and beautiful historic buildings, I’ve visited Rome but couldn’t fully appreciate it. Religion is everywhere, and I felt like I had a lead weight on my head realizing that millions of people worldwide have believed in a god for millennia.
I’ve also judged believers for basing their faith on archaic texts that don’t prove a god (or gods) ever existed—I still think that, but I’m open to being proven wrong so I can say, "You’ve convinced me I was mistaken."
- If everyone clings to their own ideas and positions, no discussion is possible, and that’s a shame.
I’ll take away two things from my forum interactions: some accuse me of being omnipresent when I just love exchanging ideas. My way of speaking is misunderstood (regional differences), even if I’ll admit I sometimes turn up the heat—or rather, the *aïoli* —which for me is just lively debates 🔥 (a regional specialty).
And my "mocking" side, which I really need to work on.
This topic isn’t just about me—I hope other forum members will share their own regional "specialties" . For example, in Alsace, some older folks switch to their local language when they don’t want outsiders to understand, and I still don’t know if it’s German or something else.
