Bonjour, suite au deal du siècle avec des billets en classe affaire de Los Angeles à Bangkok, nous partons pour la Thailande avec notre garçon de près de 4 ans pour un très court séjour de 8 jours en novembre.
Nous voulons optimiser notre voyage pour profiter au maximum de ce que la Thailande peut nous offrir pendant notre court séjour.
Pour l'instant nous envisageons de passer quelques jours à Bangkok, pour le reste Phuket et Phi Phi m'intéresse beaucoup.
Pour Phuket, je ne sais pas à quel endroit je devrais rester... les distances sont tellement grandes et le transport semble mal adapté! J'aimerais visiter Patong, le big Buddah et la ville de Phuket. Par contre, si je veux aller à Phi Phi, le port de Rassada semble être loin de ces endroits!
Pour l'instant voici un itinéraire très provisoire de mon planning:
Arrivée dans la nuit
Jour 1 Bangkok
Jour 2 Bangkok et départ tard en soirée pour Phuket
Jour 3 Phuket
Jour 4 Phuket
Jour 5 Phuket-Phi Phi (avec le ferry le plus tôt qu'on pourra trouver)
Jour 6 Phi Phi- Phuket (avec le ferry le plus tard qu'on pourra trouver)
Jour 7 Phuket vers Bangkok (reste à savoir si ce sera tôt ou tard)
Jour 8 Bangkok
Retour vers LA départ dans la nuit
Je trouve mon planning TRÈS intense et je crois que je serai dans les transports en permanence! C'est pourquoi j'ai besoin de votre aide à savoir ce que je devrais faire! Je veux absolument visiter Bangkok et voir les superbes paysages des iles. Phuket m'intéresse, mais mon manque de temps est un problème (parcontre, je ne peux pas visiter les iles sans atterir à Phuket ou Krabi).
J'ai donc besoin de conseil sur le planning et sur les endroits les mieux situés à Bangkok et Phuket! Comme j'ai peu de temps, l'emplacement est très important!

il faut supprimer les ''pertes de temps'
et donc idealement -
des l'arrivée du vol classe affaire ( donc plutot confortable) à Bangkok - prevoyez de suite le vol en correspondance sur Phuket (sans y rester la nuit)
de toutes facons avec le decalage horaire de 10 h entre LosAngeles et Thailande - que vous dormiez a Bangkok ou a Phuket ne changera rien
certes - a voir exactement l'heure d'arrivée ( vous mentionnez ''dans la nuit ?? ) -- il y a un vol ThaiAIrways Bangkok Phuket a 11h du soir - ou sinon des le matin a partir de 6h du matin (Bangkok airways)
sinon nuit à Bangkok et des le lendemain matin filer sur Phuket
Ensuite si vous voulez decouvrir la baie de Phuket, ce n'est vraiment pas koh PhiPhi qu'il faut viser ( sauf a aimer les lieux avec 500 bateaux sur la plage et 250 000 chinois )
mais allez decouvrir la partie Nord de la baie de Phuket
et donc soit en logeant sur Phuket et en programmant un ''tour'' classique'' vers Koh Panyee james bondisland et autres (mais avec beaucoup de monde)
et en revenant dormir à Phuket
soit la encore idéalement (reagrdez une carte avec la position de l 'aeroport de Phuket et la baie ) )
- le premier jour vous poser sur les palges du Nord de Phuket -- voir NaiYang Beach a 15 mn de l'aeroport le premier soir -- donc tres facile
regarder si vous ne pouvez pas aller des le lendemain dormir directement sur la petite ile de Koh Yao Noi -avec l'avantage que l'acces se fait a partir duquai de BangRong qui est a 30 mn de l'aeroport et aussi 30 mn de la palge de NaiYang
et une fois sur Koh YaoNoi vous pourrez prendre cette fois une excursion bateau privé local pas cher pour decouvrir la baie - et du coup avoir l'avantage d'arriver sur palce avant le flot des bateaux arrivant de Phuket est de la marina qui est au sud de l ile

Je vois que vous souhaitez visiter Patong... Si je peux me permettre, et en si peu de temps, je vous suggérerais de faire l'impasse sur ce quartier qui peut largement être mis de côté.. il y a bien mieux à voir sur l'île.

Notre vol arrive à 2:20 AM, je dois avouer que je préférerais aller dormir quelques heures à l'hôtel plutôt que d'attendre le vol à 6:00AM, mais c'est une bonne option pour éviter les pertes de temps!
Sinon nous pourrions dormir très près de l'aéroport et reprendre un vol en avant midi pour Phuket, ce qui serait moins difficile que d'attendre le reste de la nuit dans l'aéroport.
Pour Koh Yao Noi, c'est mieux que Phi Phi(Si on ignore le fait qu'il y a beaucoup de touristes à Phi Phi et Maya Bay)?
Selon ce planing, je ne ferais qu'une journée à Phuket avant de me diriger vers les iles? Je crois planifier 2 jours à Phuket (au minimum) pour visiter un peu la ville et me rendre au Big Buddah.
Mon horaire est serré! Je sais que ce n'est pas évident :)
Mon plan B était d'aller vers Ko Samui plutôt que Phuket, mais la météo à cet endroit en Novembre m'enlève tout envie d'y aller lors de ce voyage!

Pour Phuket, Naiyang beach semble loin du reste de l'ile et des activités principales. J'ai peur de perdre trop de temps et d'argent pour me rendre plus au centre. Est-ce que je me trompe?
Je regardais aussi pour dormir au Westin Siray Bay, très près de Rassada Pier. Ça semble être l'endroit parfait pour aller dans les iles, mais est-ce un bon endroit pour visiter Phuket?
Franchement, vu le peu de temps que tu restes sur place, prends un vol direct pour Phuket, passe y une nuit, et enchaîne direct avec Ko Phi Phi. La visite de la ville de Phuket et le bouddah blanc ne sont pas des incontournables en si peu de temps en Thaïlande...

Bon alors en fait vous n'avez pas huit jours complets sur place, donc faites au maximum : Bangkok, une île et Phuket Town.
Pour le Big Buddha, effectivement c'est loin d'être incontournable avec si peu de temps. Par contre j'aime beaucoup Phuket Town, si vous pouvez y passer au moins quelques heures.
Pour Koh Phi Phi, si vous faites les plages de l'est/nord-est vous ne verrez pas beaucoup de monde.
J'aime beaucoup Koh Yao Noi, par manque de temps j'ai juste découvert la côte est et l'archipel de Koh Hong. Koh Hong est aussi faisable depuis Ao Nang.
Si vous choisissez Koh Phi Phi, vous pourrez choisir d'atterrir à Phuket ou à Krabi, selon les horaires/tarifs.
En fait, nous avons exactement 8 jours complet sur place. Nous arrivons dans la nuit avant le premier jour et repartons dans la nuit après le 8e!

Je me demandais, si nous décidons de ne pas trop nous éloigner et de garder Phuket pour un autre voyage. Est-ce que faire Bangkok, Pattaya et de visiter les quelques iles qui sont dans ce coin, est-ce que ça vaudrait la peine ou Pattaya est une perte de temps et je devrais plutôt me diriger vers Phuket/Krabi et les iles?
si vous arrivez a 2h20 du matin - ca vous laisse 2 h a l'aeroport
vous pouvez prendre des chambres à l'heure pour vous poser, prendre une douche et vous changer
et comme vous avez 12h de decalage horaire environ avec le QUebec, en fait
vous avez deja dormi en classe affaire sur le trajet et donc vous arrivez a 2h du matin ce qui correspond a votre horloge biologique a 2 h de l'apres-midi
ce qui veut dire que reprendre le vol a 6 h du matin ne devrait pas poser de probleme majeur
d'autant qu'ensuite vous allez vous poser à l'arrivée à Phuket

Bangkok merite facilement 3 journées tranquilles de decouverte

Idealement prenez un 'bon'' guide local francophone ou anglophone pour decouvrir la region si vous voulez vraiment decouvrir et comprendre un minimum le pays
je ne peux vous indiquer de destination precise autour de Bangkok, ne connaissant pas vos attentes et vos gouts

En fait nos attentes sont variées, nous avons l'habitude de passer une semaine par ville et de découvrir les alentours, mais dans ce cas précis ce n'est pas possible!
Nous voulons donc évidemment découvrir Bangkok, ses marchés, sa gastronomie et son mode de vie chaotique!

C'est un peu pour ces raisons que j'hésite entre me rendre directement à Phuket (très bonne idée pour sauver du temps) ou tout simplement rayonner autour de Bangkok, Pattaya ainsi que les iles tout près. Si tu veux aller à Phi Phi uniquement pour voir Maya Bay, tu peux y aller à la journée depuis Phuket. C'est certainement plus simple, dans ce cas pour toi : un camp de base à Phuket, et de là tu rayonnes...

Présentement, j'envisage de modifier légèrement mon itinéraire et choisir Krabi plutôt que Phuket.
Est-ce que je me trompe ou l'accès aux iles pour faire des daytrips semble plus facile? De plus des endroits comme Railay beach, permettent d'excellents points de vue tout en ayant l'option de demeurer à Krabi sans devoir "déménager" 1-2 soirs sur les iles?
Les déplacements et distances semblent plus raisonnable de ce côté de la baie qu'à Phuket, est-ce que j'ai raison?
Depuis Ao Nang on peut faire à la journée Tonsai, Railay et Phra Nang (et les plages au nord d'Ao Nang) sur les terres, et sur mer on peut faire Koh Poda, Koi Kai et Koh Tup, et plus loin Koh Hong. Il n'y a pas d'hébergements sur ces îles. Pour Koh Phi Phi, je déconseille de faire en day trip, il faut y loger.
J'envisagerais de dormir 4 jours près de Ao Nang et par la suite de faire des excursions sur terre et daytrips en mer.
Est-ce qu'un daytrip en longboat pour faire Poda, Tub et Chicken island est une bonne idée? Les 3 iles semblent très proches l'une de l'autre, donc plus de temps pour relaxer sur chacunes d'entre elles! Je voudrais louer un longboat privé pour quelques heures et faire ces 3 iles. Est-ce qu'au moins l'une d'entre elle offre un minimum de commodité (toilettes, nourriture)?
Peut-être un 2e daytrip de quelques heures vers Hong island (pour quelques heures en tout cas) serait une bonne idée?
Évidemment, je prendrais un longboat pour aller explorer Railay qui est très près et Phranang. Est-ce que depuis ces iles il y a des longboats/ferry qui se rendent à Krabi Town? Si oui, est-ce une bonne idée ou c'est trop loin et une perte de temps?
Si possible j'aimerais bien aller passer un avant-midi pour faire du Trek à dos d'éléphant (une heure) car c'est assez près de la ville
Pour l'instant je crois que notre planning sera 4 jours à Krabi et 4 jours à Bangkok, ainsi on va éviter les déplacements et déménagements inutiles. La première journée ne sera pas facile avec l'arrivée à Bangkok à 2:20AM et le départ vers Krabi à 7:15, mais je crois que c'est le seul scénario qui nous évite de courir tout le voyage!
Pour une seule personne, en comptant bateau et taxe Parc National journalière, ça ne revient que 300 bahts plus cher de faire les trois îles en bateau privé sur une demi-journée que de les faire en deux jours en bateaux publics (Koh Tup et Koh Kai en une seule fois à marée basse). Par contre en bateaux publics on reste en général au moins quatre heures sur l'île, là c'est un forfait demi-journée, ou alors négocier plus cher pour plus de temps.
Je pense qu'il est possible d'aller de Railay à Krabi en long tail boat mais pourquoi ? Si vous faites une expédition dans les terres d'une journée vous passerez à Krabi sur le chemin des choses à voir. Tarif octobre 2014, taxi privé de 8 h à 17 h 20 avec environ 100 km parcourus dans la journée : 2300 bahts.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Family of 4—2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 15) who are well-traveled.
We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary.
We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).
Special note: we love traveling by train :)

Sunrise at Bromo, exploring the volcano and sea of sand. Relax in the afternoon.

Travel to eastern Java, then train, ferry, and road to reach Sidemen in Bali.
