Après 2 mois de recherches (ok pas tjrs intensives), entre voyage forum, lonely planet, guide michelin, le routard et le millier (au moins) de blogs parcouru.... bien j'ai l'impression de tourner en rond et un commentaire contredisant le précédent mon itinéraire n'est tjrs pas bouclé (dc aucune résa)....
En ce dimanche matin je me jette donc à l'eau pour vous demander votre avis et vos conseils...
et mettre le résultat de mes recherches au cas ou ça inspirerait qu'un
Le cadre :
* couple de trentenaires habitués à voyager sans trop de confort mais avec envie de se faire plaisir, on dépense au coup de coeur, pas plongeurs mais adeptes du snorkeling (même si a 3 c devenu difficile). On est du genre à pas tenir en place, vouloir voir plein de choses (chacun sa façon de voyager, merci de ne pas partir dans des digressions sur le sujet) mais surtout s'inventer nos aventures loin du monde, ça ns dérange pas de devoir faire parfois "un peu" de route si ça vaut le coup (BB dort bien dès que ça roule). J'adore prendre des photos, ça rythme set nos visites car on part en chasse
* + BB 18 mois qui est déjà venu 3 semaines à Bali avec nous l'an dernier a travers les trek dans les rizières (déjà "mordu" par une sangsue ça c fait), les visites de temples et la baignade dans les Gili.
* Arrivée à Phuket le 5 Mars 21:50, Retour de Singapour le 23 mars à 21h,
* Budget 2000 à 3000 (meme si je sais que ce sera plus proche de 3000 car on aime pas trop se restreindre qd c pour les vacances annuelles)
Les envies : essentiellement nature avec jungle (j'adorerai voir une raflesia meme si ça m'étonnerai, j'avais hésité avec la Malaisie au départ) et surtout plages tranquilles avec poisson (on est du sud, on aime la plage et le soleil, yc la chaleur, BB n'a pas été dérangé par Dubai en Juillet), pas du tout adeptes de la fet et du monde (on ira qd même sans doute trainer une fois du coté de Patong pour se rendre compte du "cirque" et aller au centre commercial de jungceylon) + 2 ou 3 jours à Singapour à la fin.
J'ai donc ciblé :
Qqs plages de Phuket pour se mettre dans le bain (oui je sais les jeux de mots ne sont pas mon fort) : Hat Mai Khao, Hat N'ai Thon, Paradise Beach, Freedom Beach, Laem Promthep, Hat Laem Ka Yai + View point Big Bouddha + Centre commercial + Patong en mode "étude sociologique de la décadence"
Surin (au départ je pensais aux Similan car plus facile d'accès par rapport à notre itinéraire mais j'ai l'impression qu'il y aura moins de monde aux Surin et que ce sera plus cool pour le snorkeling et plus facile pour voir des requins pointes noires
Khao Sok : sentier au bord d'une rivière ou les 4 premiers km sont libres + autour avec balades ds les bambous géants, puis navigation sur le lake avec vue sur les pitons calcaires, nuits sur un bungalow flottant + peut être cabane ds les arbres selon durée
Baie de Phang Nga au petit matin (avec le rocher de James Bond pour monsieur)
Péninsule de Railway : coup de coeur pour les photos : Hat Ton Sai, Hat Railway West, Hat Phra Nang, la grotte de la princesse, et le lagon caché
Ko Phi Phi : je me pose vraiment la question compte tenu du monde (on est du genre à préférer rater les "must" pour lui préférer les petits coins à explorer ou on s'invente nos propres aventures loin de la foule... qd c possible évidemment). C sur que c'est beau mais j'ai peur que l'affluence nous cache vraiment le plaisir. Si on le fait c en arrivant la veille, dodo sur place et départ au petit matin avec un Tailboat privé pour repartir à 10h max.... mais c une vrai question
Ko Lanta : je voulais tenter l'épreuve d'immunité (OK OK c'était même pas sur cette ile, je sors) mais je suis pas sure que ça apporte qqchose par rapport au reste de l'itinéraire...
Iles de Trang : Ko Muk, Kradang et Ngai : je pense que ça nous correspondrait bien avec un peu moins de monde, pas bcp d'activité fiesta, la possibilité de plages très calmes, d'un peu de jungle par endroit et de snorkeling (avec possibilité de s'éloigner avec Tailboat privé)
Lac du parc ornithologique de Thale Moi: (pris ville de Phattalung) : ça n'a pas l'air très connu mais je l'ai découvert dans le guide michelin et il semblerait qu'on y soit vers la fin de la saison des lotus roses sur le lac : ça a l'air magnifique (surtout au lever du soleil). Le bémol, c'est qu'il faut revenir sur le continent, organiser le transport, ça prend du temps... j'ai peur qu'on perde bcp de temps "juste" pour des lotus roses... mais en même temps j'ai eu un petit coup de coeur pour l'endroit au travers des photos de blog : la quiétude, la lumière, les lotus, les animaux....
Parc Maritime Tarutao : Taruta, Adang et Ko Lipe (Lire ça sera obligatoire car c'est de la qu'on prendra le bateau pour Langkawi en Malaisie d'ou on prendra l'avion pour Singapour) g peur qu'on retrouve trop de monde à Lipe...
Comme vous le voyez on prévoit de pas mal bouger, la question est : toutes les iles donnent envie séparément mais certaines ne sont elles pas "redondantes", est il selon vous possible d'en zapper certaines qui ressemblent à d'autre ou chacune ont leur charme et leur spécificité...
N'hésitez pas (même si je me doute déjà de certains commentaires.... gardez qd même à l'esprit que chacun peut avoir des gouts différents), je m'inspirerai de tous vos retours sur le sujet.
En termes d'itinéraires, ça pourrait donner qqchose comme ça (idéalement il m'aurait fallu une semaine de plus je pense)

Surin ou Similan? est ce que ça vaut vraiment le coup ou autant le garder pour les iles rang (j'ai l'impression que c à conserver car avec une géologie assez différente qui donne des paysages différents et évidemment moins de monde)
Une idée de système BBsitting qui pourrait venir avec nous en snorkeling pour garder BB sur le bateau 15-20 minutes pour que parfois on y aille à 2 (je suis pas sure que les drivers de tailboat le fassent.... et on préfère pas le faire plutôt que de prendre le moindre risque)
les plages de phuket valent le coup? son centre commercial? voir l'animation de Patong? ou on économise les 2 jours à Phuket?
A phuket, on loue une voiture ou il y a des chauffeurs facilement et pour pas trop cher comme à Bali? et plus largement c cher de louer une voiture avec chauffeur pour nos déplacements (plus pratique niveau horaires, organisation et avec BB)
Des propositions d'agence touristique pour Khao Sok ? (on passe très très rarement par agence pour faire qqchose car on déteste les voyages en groupe, mais je me dis que là ça peut être l'occasion.... ou une proposition de guide en individuel?)
1 ou 2 bel hôtel sur notre trajet à proposer pour une escale "luxe" (le reste du temps ce sera plutôt petit bungalow à l'arrache, sauf si on trouve des pensions pas trop chères

je vous conseillerais alors plutot une ile comme KohNgai ( snorkeling balades tranquilles dans l'ile )

KhaoSok : l'interet majeur c'est la partie bungalows flottants sur le lac au moins 2 jours / 1 nuit
mais avec un BB encore une fois posez vous la question de l'interet - vous ne pourrez lacher le gamin une seconde - la encore c'est plus une destination et activités pour ados / adultes --
Tarutao : il faut bien cibler le coin pour eviter la encore le tourisme de ceux qui ont fait confiance a un guide qui est mis à jour tous les 10 ans
pour les autres destinations :Phuket Lanta Railay Ko Pipi, Ko Caca et autres : il faut vraiment creuser la question pour bien choisir - a 500 m pres comme a Railay, cela peut etre le sable ou la vase

En effet ce programme est vraiment très chargé ..
Tout a l'air si millimétré qu'on a l'impression que si le moindre truc foire au début, tout le reste du programme va en etre impacté ...
C'est difficile de vous conseiller je trouve... mais essayer d'enlever déjà la moitié des destinations...
Pour le rocher de James Bond, dormir à Tham nam phut et prendre un bateau privé, demander à partir 1 h avant l'heure des "tours".
Nous avons pu avoir le site pour nous seuls pendant 25 mn... pareil pour le village des "gitans". Seuls...
Idem pour Maya bay, la plage était à nous (difficile à croire mais j'ai des photos😛)

Je doute fort que vous ayez vérifié la faisabilité logistique du trajet. D'ailleurs la façon dont vous écorchez certains noms propres me conforterait plutôt dans cette impression.
- Avez-vous vérifié comment rejoindre Railay après la visite de la Baie de Phang Nga ?
- Je peux me tromper mais je pense qu'il n'y a que des speedboats qui vont directement de Koh Phi Phi Don à Kho Ngai. Avez-vous regardé si les horaires sont compatibles avec la visite matinale d'Ao Maya ? Sachant qu'il faut environ 25 minutes depuis Phi Phi Leh pour rejoindre Phi Phi Don.
- Les speedboats pour Koh Lipe partent de Koh Muk, pas de Koh Kradan.
- Pourquoi retourner sur le continent en ayant été à Koh Ngai et Koh Muk pour ensuite retourner à Koh Kradan, au lieu de faire les trois îles proches en une fois ? Si vous avez des choses à voir du côté de Trang vous pouvez arriver depuis Krabi par la terre et ensuite faire les trois îles pour ensuite prendre le speedboat pour Koh Lipe.

Pour surin : à Khuraburi contacter l'agence tom & am qui vous organisera votre séjour. (Même blog 3 jours surin 2015). Bien que le snorkeling soit super, Je vous conseillerais de zapper les iles surin.
Peu de snorkeling du bord et il faut participer aux sorties en long tail boat (150 bath matin et après midi.)
Où dormir à khuraburi (voir tom&am) et faire surin dans la journée . Demander Tom&am bb sitting pour la journée
Kao sok : j'y étais il y a 2 jours. Pour les tours, demander à la guesthouse, ils organisent tout et les prix sont raisonnables.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Surin ou Similan? est ce que ça vaut vraiment le coup ou autant le garder pour les iles rang (j'ai l'impression que c à conserver car avec une géologie assez différente qui donne des paysages différents et évidemment moins de monde)
Une idée de système BBsitting qui pourrait venir avec nous en snorkeling pour garder BB sur le bateau 15-20 minutes pour que parfois on y aille à 2 (je suis pas sure que les drivers de tailboat le fassent.... et on préfère pas le faire plutôt que de prendre le moindre risque)
les plages de phuket valent le coup? son centre commercial? voir l'animation de Patong? ou on économise les 2 jours à Phuket?
A phuket, on loue une voiture ou il y a des chauffeurs facilement et pour pas trop cher comme à Bali? et plus largement c cher de louer une voiture avec chauffeur pour nos déplacements (plus pratique niveau horaires, organisation et avec BB)
Des propositions d'agence touristique pour Khao Sok ? (on passe très très rarement par agence pour faire qqchose car on déteste les voyages en groupe, mais je me dis que là ça peut être l'occasion.... ou une proposition de guide en individuel?)
1 ou 2 bel hôtel sur notre trajet à proposer pour une escale "luxe" (le reste du temps ce sera plutôt petit bungalow à l'arrache, sauf si on trouve des pensions pas trop chères
