Après des heures de lecture de mon Lonely Planet, de ce forum et de quelques blogs, j'aimerai beaucoup avoir votre avis sur mon itinéraire pour voir si j'en ai tiré quelque chose 🙂
Le contexte : nous sommes 2, en train de profiter d'un tour du monde d'1 an, et après 2 mois au Japon, nous allons passer ~5 semaines aux Philippines. Autre ambiance !!
On aime la nature, marcher ne nous fait pas peur et on est plongeur (advanced open water).
On arrive dans 1 semaine, début novembre
On commence cet itinéraire tous les 2, puis ma soeur (sportive mais pas plongeuse !) nous rejoint pour les 2 dernières semaines, qu'on passerait à Palawan + Nord de Luzon.
Breeeef, voilà ce que ca donnerait :
J1 : Arrivée à Manille à 13h30 > avion pour Dumaguete
J2 Dumaguete - Excursion Valencia
J3 Dumaguete - Excursion Twin Lakes
J4 Dumaguete - Plongée ile d'Apo (ou est-ce que ca vaut le coup d'essayer de passer 1 nuit sur place ?)
J5 Dumaguete - Excursion dauphins etc depuis la ville de Bais ? Ou plus sympa de faire une excursion similaire de Siquijor ?
J6 Transfert à Siquijor (est-ce envisageable de faire une excursion le matin à Oslob pour les requins baleines, avant de partir ? Est-ce que ca vaut le coup ?)
J7+8+9 : Siquijor - 1j plongee, 1j tour de l'ile, 1j Cantabon ou plongee/snorkeling
J10 : Transfert pour Tagbilaran puis Alona Beach
J 11+12+13 : Alona Beach - 2j plongee snorkeling et 1j excursion tarsiers / chocolate hills
J14 : Transfert Alona Beach > Cebu > Moalboal
J15 : Moalboal - sardine run
J16 : Moalboal - Kawasan falls
Et là, 2 options s'offrent à moi :
-- option 1, parce que vous êtes nombreux à être dithyrambique sur Bantayan et que j'ai bien envie d'un ptit coin de paradis à juste profiter de la plage et du panorama. A moins que vous ayez un autre paradis à me conseiller ?
J17 : Transfert Moalboal > Cebu > Bantayan
J18+19+20 : Bantayan
J21 : Transfert Bantayan > Cebu > PPrincesa
-- option 2 : je case en début de séjour une escapade de quelques jours à Mindoro spécifiquement pour aller plonger à Apo Reef. Ca aussi, ca nous fait bien envie :)
Quelque soit l'option, on arrive à J22, et ma soeur nous aura rejoint la veille au soir à Puerto Princesa.
J22 : Transfert PPrincesa > El Nido
J23+24+25 : Excursion 3j/2n dans l'archipel de Bacuit
J26 : El Nido (pour faire du kayak dans les iles par exemple)
J27 : Transfert El Nido > Coron en bateau.
J28 : Coron - Excursion île de Coron
J29 : Coron - Plongée sur épaves pour les plongeurs - autre activité pour ma soeur ?
J30 : Coron - excursion en bangka sur des îles
J31 : Transfert Coron > Manille, en bateau ou avion. Bus de nuit pour Banaue.
J32+33+34 : Trek rizières (ca sous-entend qu'on peut partir direct en arrivant du bus de nuit et donc qu'on ait organisé le trek en avance, est-ce bien possible ?)
J35 : Transfert Banaue > Bontoc puis Bontoc > Sagada.
J36 : Sagada - rando.
J37 : Transfert pour Manille (Sagada > Baguio (bus, 7h) puis Baguio > Manille (bus, 5h à 6h30)) >> est-ce bien faisable sur une journée ?
J38 : Départ !
(1 jour à Sagada ca me semble pas top donc j'imagine qu'on peut sacrifier un jour sur Palawan pour en rajouter 1 ici)
Super choix de destination, les Philippines c'est un gros coup de coeur pour nous !
Quelques remarques sur votre parcours, sur ce que l'on a fait :
Moalboal : Kawasan Falls et les sardines peuvent se faire le même jour (vous resterez au plus 1h dans l'eau avec les sardines). Aller très tôt à Kawasan Falls car c'est vite rempli de touristes.
Il y a une plage dont personne ne parle : Lambug beach (conseillé par un expatrié), bien plus belle que White beach.
Oslob : activité très controversé, c'est un peu Disneyland sur place. Nous ne l'avons pas fait, mais on comprend les personnes qui le font, c'est sur que ca donne envie, mais...
Tarsiers Bohol : Il y a deux centres pour les tarsiers. On vous conseille de privilégier le tarsier sanctuary, près de Corella
Trek rizières : il me semble que le bus arrive avant l'heure de départ des treks. Si c'est le cas, les guides vous emmèneront sans problème en trek. Mais après une nuit dans un bus, ne serez vous pas fatigués ?
On donne pas mal d'infos sur Bohol (et notamment des centres de tarsiers), Siquijor, Coron, El Nido, Banaue Batad sur notre blog. Et on finalise un article sur Moalboal :)
Merci pour ta réponse et pour le blog Jolène, j'ai tout lu, très intéressant ! J'attends l'article sur Moalboal avec impatience 😉 et les photos ont suffi à me vacciner contre Oslob. On a eu la chance de voir des requins baleines aux Maldives dans des conditions qui m'ont l'air bien meilleures (et je regrettais déjà le nombre de snorkeleurs !) donc j'attendrai une autre occasion pour les revoir...
- Pour la plongée, l'eau sera sans doute un peu trouble en Nov, à voir.
- Apo isl, c'est très sympa, un petit côte volcanique mais tout petit; on peut dormir, 2 logements dignes de ce nom et delogements plus sobres et chez l'habitant.
- Bais -et les dauphins- n'est pas ce que j'ai préféré, le sand bar est rarement à sec et les dauphins ne se laissaient pas approcher lors de notre passage.
- depuis Siquijor, possibilité de joindre Dumaguete, puis Moalboal, puis Bohol via Cebu pour éviter un AR Cebu-Moalboal; je suis d'accord avec les commentaires de Jolène sur Moalboal ainsi que Oslob.
- on aime bien Bantayan parceque il y a quelque chose de particulier, c'est reposant, l'accueil eest détendu et chaleureux. L 'île étant plate, on peut faire de la marche à pied, du vélo, ou de la moto aisément; quelques îles au large. Snorkeling assez modeste. Santa Fé est un petit village où tout le monde se connait, bonne ambiance. L' équipe du Coucou doit y être pour quelque chose, chaleureuse comme le reste...
- Apo reef, pas facile d'accès: d'abord se rendre à Bantan isl puis sur le reef assez éloigné.
- les treks sur Banaue sont assez faciles. Et à Bontoc: rizières de Maligcong et musée de Bontoc à voir.
- Sagada Manille dans la journée possible: compte 6-7h pour Baguio, pour Manille il y a des bus ultra rapides mais il faut réserver. Le marché de Baguio en plus mérite une visite, un vrai souk.

Et j'ai essayé de retourner le truc dans tous les sens mais je ne trouve pas vraiment de meilleur sens pour l'itinéraire, même avec un trajet Dumaguete - Moalboal au final, vu que ca nous fait revenir sur nos pas forcément... mais j'ai l'impression de louper un truc 🤪

J'ai rajouté le bonus Pinatubo à la fin, parce que ça me chiffonnait de venir aux Philippines sans grimper un volcan 🙂 Mais on pourrait l'enlever pour rajouter une journée dans le nord. Et dans ce cas, on aurait le temps de passer 1 jour à Bontoc (ca me semble encore un peu juste pour rajouter Sagada). Bontoc-Manille, c'est pas déconnant de le faire en bus de nuit via Banaue pour gagner une journée ?
Ca me semble pas mal. Sur ce à quoi je peux répondre :
Attention à malapascua, peut être que 3jours cela fait beaucoup ? Sauf si bien sûr vous plongez (1 voir 2 jours), et que ça sera l'île "détente" où vous vous reposerez.
Corong Corong il faut savoir que c'est une ville en longueur, le long de la route. A 5min d'El Nido en tricycle ou scooter. C'est plutôt facile de joindre les deux. Et au pire ça se fait en 30 min à pieds si vous n'êtes pas motorisés. A El Nido il n'y a pas vraiment de belle plage, donc vous ne ratez rien de ce côté. Par contre, la plage de Nacpan est vraiment magnifique mais j'ai l'impression que vous manquerez de temps.
J29 à coron : le snorkelling à coron city n'existe pas. Votre sœur devra probablement prendre un tour en bateau.
Oui, quel (agréable) casse-tête cet itinéraire ! J'ai l'impression d'être une girouette et de changer d'avis tout le temps 🙂 Mais je pense avoir la bonne version maintenant, au moins les grandes lignes. J'ai juste modifié la fin vu que le transfert Manille-Banaue a l'air trop galère de jour, on fera de nuit comme tout le monde.
Ca nous donne d'ailleurs 5 jours (dont 3 de trek à Banaue) : on trouvera de quoi s'occuper en terme de rando/balade pour les 2 jours en + du trek ? Ou me conseillez-vous de bouger ailleurs, malgré les temps de transport qui vont avec ?
@Jolene, oui le plan à Malapascua c'est de glandouiller un peu, en plus de la plongée. J'ai lu et vu sur ton boog que la plage était sympa et l'ile calme, ca nous semblait idéal. J'ai vu aussi l'article sur Moalboal d'ailleurs, merci 😎

Dimple Star, oui, ça ne parait pas simple; as-tu vu minolo.blogspot.com, bon ça date de 2010.
la plage de Corong Corong était la plage la plus sympa pour resider par le passé, tricycle pour le cnetre-ville.
l'excursion pour le Pinatubo, en principe, demande de partir très tôt, l'approche se fait avec un véhicule tout terrain puis on termine à pied et quand il y a du soleil, c'est caniculaire.
Autour de Banaue, outre Batad, il faut voir Banga-an, Hapao et ses rizières ne sont pas loin aussi.
Pour le retour vers Manille, prenez le bus de la Coda lines, en principe website qui permet de booker un siege; le bus vient de Sagada - 15 h- puis Bontoc - 16h 30 - et passe vers 18h, 18h 30 à Banaue.

On va effectivement étudier ce Pinatubo pour basculer une journée en plus dans le nord. Ca fait 1j en plus mais :
- si je rajoute 1j dans le nord pour aller à Sagada, j'ai l'impression que le retour ne peut se faire que de jour, donc on reperd une journée en fait.
- Si on enchaine ferry de nuit et bus de nuit, ca nous fait 1 jour à passer à Manille sans port d'attache. Donc compliqué, à moins qu'il n'y ait un système de locker / garde bagage fiable quelque part en ville pour garder notre barda ?
Pour l'accès à Sablayan, j'avais effectivement contacté le Pandan resort, qui m'ont rapidement donné des infos (meme si finalement je ne reste pas chez eux, à regret, mais avec la plongée les prix sont.....🤪).

sur Manille, le Sogo hotel propose la location sur quelques heures, Lemonk donnait cette info par le passé, sauf erreur de ma part. Plusieurs hotels dont un sur Malate.
Depuis la cordillère, pas de bus de jour direct pour Manille, uniquement de nuit, soit depuis Banaue ou de Sagada.
Le bus Codalines quitte Sagada vers 15h, via Bontoc 16h environ, via Banaue vers 18h 30 environ; depuis banaue compte une dizaine d'heures pour rejoindre Manille au petit matin.
Avant Banaue, vers Lagawe: les rizières de Kiangan peuvent vous occuper😉

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.

I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

I’ll be in Malaysia with my wife, mainly in Langkawi and Penang for Christmas and New Year’s at the end of 2026.
If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
