Voici un projet d'itinéraire de 28 jours en Birmanie pour le mois d'octobre, si certains d'entre vous veulent bien me donner leur avis, suggestions, conseils ou objections, d'avance un grand merci...
- Jour 1, Vendredi 4 octobre : Metz – Paris – Bangkok - Mandalay
- Jour 2, Samedi 5 octobre : arrivée Mandalay
- Jour 3, Dimanche 6 octobre : Mandalay (centre ville + pagodes + spectacle de marionnettes)
- Jour 4, Lundi 7 octobre : Trajet Mandalay – Pindaya (grottes + fabrique d’ombrelles)- Lac Inle (bus de jour)
- Jour 5, Mardi 8 octobre : Lac Inle (vélo + marchés + monastère des chats sauteurs)
- Jour 6, Mercredi 9 octobre : Lac Inle (cours de cuisine birmane + promenades)
- Jour 7, Jeudi 10 octobre : Lac Inle (bateau pour Indein + fête de la pagode)
- Jour 8, Vendredi 11 octobre : Trajet Lac Inle – aéroport de Heho – Keng Tung (avion)
- Jour 9, Samedi 12 octobre : Keng Tung (trek)

Tu ne laisses vraiment pas beaucoup de place pour les imprévus ou les coups de coeur.
Quelques commentaires :
Tu ne pourras pas faire en Bus et dans la journée MANDALAY PINDAYA INLE.
Je ne pense pas qu'il y ait des bus directs pour PINDAYA.
Il faudra prendre celui de INLE , descendre à l'intersection après KALAW et prendre un taxi.
De PINDAYA vers INLE, un seul Bus le matin à 5 heures.
Un taxi coûte 55 Dollars.
Ceci dit PINDAYA vaut vraiment le détour.
La visite du Monastère des chats sauteurs (qui ne sautent pas toute la journée) se fait lors de ta journée en bateau sur le Lac.Tu ne peux y aller à vélo.
Puisque tu es à INLE vers la mi octobre il y a les FETES du LAC qui durent 3 semaines.Si tu pouvais y ètre le dernier jour, c'est extraordinaire, avec le retour des Reliques et surtout les courses de bateaux.Renseigne toi pour la date.
A kengtung, ce sont plutôt des ballades.Ta voiture te déposera dans un village avec ton guide et te reprendra dans un autre village.
C'était comme cela ol y a quelques années, mais peut-ètre que KRISTOPHE
a d'aüutres infos.
Oublie le train de nuit BAGAN YANGON, nous l'avons pris l'année dernière , c'est 21 heures.Pas une bouteillen d'eau ou un café à bord.
Les Bus qui sont maintenant modernes sont 100 fois mieux que le train.
Le Rocher d'Or n'est pas à MOULMEIN tu peux t'y arrêter soit à l'Aller soit au Retour.
Tu peux rester une journée de moins à MOULMEIN et revenir par HPA AN.
La plage est très loin et sans beaucoup d'intérêt.
Si ces commentaires peuvent te rendre service j'en suis heureux.

Effectivement le trajet Mandalay - Pindaya - Inle était une interrogation pour moi, je vais donc réfléchir à la meilleure manière de faire puisque ce que j'avais prévu n'est pas possible...
A Kengtung je croyais faire un peu de randonnée entre les villages, un peu déçue que ce ne soit pas le cas, je poserai tout de même la question à Kristofe.

Pour Moulmein tu as raison : comme j'ai finalement un jour de plus, j'ai décidé d'en passer deux à Hpa An.

je vois que tu prépares très longtemps à l'avance !
C'est difficile de donner un avis définitif sur ton itinéraire : tout dépend de la façon dont tu aimes voyager, et du rythme que tu apprécies.
Ton programme me semble totalement faisable en 28 jours.
Mon conseil serait d'avoir un peu de souplesse dans ton trajet, pour l'adapter en cours de route.
Tu prévoies par exemple pas mal de temps à Mandalay. Même si tu bouges autour, certains pourraient trouver que c'est beaucoup. Mandalay, c'est une grande ville assez étouffante.
De même, 3 jours pleins (voire 4 puisque tu parles d'un trajet de nuit) à Bagan te donneront vraiment le temps de tout voir en détail.
En revanche, 2 jours à Yangon me semblent bien.
(Pour info, j'y retourne très prochainement et j'essaierai de faire le tour de la ville en train. Yangon Circle Line. C'est dans le Lonely Planet.)
Très bonne idée aussi de passer à Moulmein/Hpa An. Tu sortiras du circuit habituel pour voir des choses moins balisées.
Entre Moulmein et Hpa An, tu peux faire le trajet en bateau.
A mon avis, ça peut être intéressant d'aller à Kengtung. Je ne l'ai pas encore fait, mais je l'ai mis au programme de mon prochain voyage.
Pour l'ordre, si tu vas à Kengtung, tu peux aussi en repartir en avion en allant "directement" à Yangon.
Les jours et les horaires d'avion d'Air Bagan, par exemple, sont ici :

Enfin, pour nourrir ta réflexion, il y a aussi des plages en Birmanie. Je te conseillerai plutôt Chaung Tha que Ngapali.
L'ambiance y est plus locale. Avec des balades autour, sans passer la journée sur la plage. Et tu n'as pas besoin d'y aller en avion. De Yangon, tu peux aller en bateau de nuit à Pathein (j'y suis allé il y a longtemps, il n'y a rien de particulier, mais j'en garde un très bon souvenir !!).
Personnellement, je passerais par exemple moins de temps à Mandalay, pour privilégier une escapade au bord de la mer en fin de voyage. Mais on entre ici dans des notions de goût.

J'ai regardé à nouveau ton parcours.
Puisque tu arrives à MANDALAY, il serait beaucoup plus logique de commencer ton circuit par la visite de MANDALAY et ses environs ( tu as oublié MINGUN )
Puis
MONYWA et BAGAN
De là tu prends le Bus de jour pour INLE départr vers 8 h il te déposera vers 15 h
après KALAW à l'intersection pour PINDAYA.
Puis INLE KENGTUNG YANGON ETC
Tu pourrais ètre à INLE pour la fin des Fêtes du LAC
C'est une suggestion

Sur mon trajet qui va sans doute être modifié et amélioré grâce à vos conseils, mais aussi comme le disait Lobo sur le fait que je ne me laisse peut-être pas assez de temps pour les imprévus et les coups de coeur...
Je vais de nouveau étudier mon itinéraire, revoir l'ordre du voyage, les dates des festivités (notamment sur le lac Inle), mais aussi la durée passée dans certaines villes (telles que Mandalay) et je vous tiendrai au courant des changements apportés.

C'est nettement mieux.
Tu ne pourras faire dans la même journée : AVA MINGUN SAGAING ET AMARAPURA, mais tu auras le temps.Voir aussi les sculpteurs de marbre et les batteurse de feuilles d'Or.
Les Moustaches Brothers n'existent plus.
Quelques kilomètres avant MONYWA il faut voir THANBODAY et le grand Boudha debout ( 130 mètres ) Demander un BUS de t'arrêter.
Le lendemain matin avant de partir pour BAGAN tu as le temps de voir les impressionnantes grottes de POW WIN DOUNG.
Y aller en taxi ou prendre un bateau et une Jeep.
Le musée de Bagan ne présenterait pas beaucoup d'intérêt.
En arrivant à PINDAYA, tu n'auras sans doute pas le temps de voir les grottes.
Si tu y arrives tu pourras prendre le Bus du lendemain matin, vers 5 heures, sinon taxi obligatoire ( 55 Dollars ).

Le monastere des "chats sauteurs" n'apparait pas comme indispensable sur Inle....
Pour le retour des reliques, il s'agit des 3 Boudhas : je joins quelques photos (les 4 premières) car j'y étais pour le dernier jour (2 novembre 2012 et les fêtes durent 6 jours) : effectivement c'est un grand moment si tu peux y être mais attention trouver un bateau dispo ne sera pas vraiment facile pour assister à la cérémonie. Je connais une agence pour laquelle tu pourras te recommander de ma part 😉.
Pour Kentung, et aller "dans les tribus" (quelques photos jointes : les 4 dernieres) la voiture sera indispensable (cout en novembre 2012 = 60 000 kyats/jour + 20 USD pour le guide). Je recommande particulieremEnt ce coin chaleureux et dépaysant (y rester au moins 3 voire 4 jours = impeccable). Evitez la Private GH désormais "fatiguée" et dont le proprio est l'ex chef de la police. L'hotel tout neuf au même prix et bien plus confortable sera privilégié juste à coté !!

Déçue d'apprendre qu'on ne peut plus voir les Moustaches Brothers, je ne sais absolument pas de quoi il s'agissait mais on m'en avait dit beaucoup de bien...
Une question encore, car je n'ai pas un budget suffisamment élevé pour me permettre un taxi à 55$, alors est-ce que l'arrêt à Pindaya vaut le coup si je ne peux pas voir les grottes? Ne vaut-il pas mieux faire le trajet direct entre Bagan et Inle, et utiliser ce temps ailleurs? Ou alors faut-il supprimer une journée dans un autre lieu pour en passer une de plus à Pindaya? Et si oui, quelle journée te parait "en trop" dans mon parcours?

A Kengtung je pensais essayer de loger au Princess Hotel. Est-il facile de trouver un guide sur place? Peut-être as-tu un bon contact? J'espérais marcher un peu, mais d'après ce que j'ai compris le trajet se fait principalement en voiture..?
Concernant l'agence sur le lac Inle c'est avec plaisir que j'irai de ta part, peux-tu me donner son nom? Je ne parviens pas pour le moment à trouver les dates des festivités pour la fin d'année 2013, mais j'imagine qu'il y a peut-être un rapport avec la pleine lune (c'est le cas pour la fête des lumières), donc j'espère bien tomber...

1) Princess hotel = très demandé = souvent complet et squatté par toutes les agences de voyage.... Prévoir solution de repli 😇
2) Tu ne dors jamais chez les tribus : départ et retour dans la journée pour Kentung. Ca n'est pas du trek.
3) Il n'empeche que tu peux marcher des heures afin d'aller dans des endroits moins connus (à voir avec ton guide : le mien s'apelle "Poppy" et a 21 ans mais on s'est très bien entendu et il a compris exactement ce que je voulais : il vaut mieux etre anglophone aussi...)
4) La fete des lumieres (dernier dimanche d'octobre) était le 29 octobre mais pour Inlé les célébrations durent 6 jours a compter de cette fete. Pour 2013 je vois que ce sera le 18 octobre. Sois donc a Inle entre le 18 et le 24/10....

Bien d'accord avec toi, c'est notre seul malheureux souvenir en Birmanie. Au départ, on est plutôt bien accueilli et les chambres sont sympas mais les lits trés inconfortables. De plus la GH propose des lunchs packets pour les treks et des petits repas qu'ils vont chercher chez un chinois, ils nous ont fait payer une fortune ces petits avantages. La note n'arrive qu'au moment où le taxi est là pour vous conduire à l'aéroport et sans détail. 68 000 Kyatts pour 4 bières, 2*2 lunchs paks, et 3*2 repas composés de frieds noodles, fried rice, soupes. + laundry 2 petits sacs!
Fuyez cette Guest House! Même si l'hotel à côté n'a pas le même charme.
Lobo, retirer un jour à Kengtung me semble compliqué : 2 jours c'est peu pour s'imprégner de ce lieu qui semble particulier, et de plus aller là-bas représente un gros budget (seul aller-retour en avion du voyage), aussi j'ai envie d'en profiter...
J'ai donc de nouveau modifié mon itinéraire, a priori je vais hélas devoir faire l'impasse sur Pindaya (que c'est difficile de faire des choix!) Je passe une journée de moins dans la ville de Mandalay et vais essayer de me perdre un peu plus dans les campagnes de Monywa et Pakokku...

Sagaing, Amapura et Inwa le même jour = tu vas courrir et ne profiter de rien. Alors commence très tot le matin par Sagaing et fini par Ubein. Ce sera déja très bien

Pas besoin de 4 jours pour faire MANDALAY MONYWA PAKKOKU ( où il n'y a pas grand chose à voir ). BAGAN
Je ne pense pas qu'il y ait des bus de nuit entre BAGAN ET INLE et HPAAN YANGON.
Essaie d'aller à INDEIN qui est sur le LAC , le jour du marché.
Autrement c'est OK

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.

I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
