Je suis nouvelle sur ce forum (je ne suis allée que sur la rubrique USA), mais ton post est une coïncidence puisque depuis ce matin nous avons décidé mon mari et moi que nos vacances d'été se passeront cette année en Scandinavie, et plus particulièrement en Norvège.
Je rêve d'aller dans les pays du nord depuis quelques années, mon mari est un amoureux des lacs, et de tout ce qui touche l'eau, plusieurs reportages vus nous ont plus que mis l'eau à la bouche.
Nous qui étions plutôt (à part les USA que nous adorons) France et Espagne voire Italie, sommes dorénavant attirés par les pays plus "rustiques", nous sommes partis en Irlande cet été et en sommes revenus comblés.
Je venais ce matin dans le but de poster un billet concernant notre prochain voyage, si tu as des réponses à certaines de mes questions je serais ravie de les lire !
En ce qui concerne ton voyage, je sais que c'est long à faire mais pourquoi ne nous prépares tu pas un petit récit agrémenté de tes plus belles photos ?

En Juillet 2007 nous sommes allés en Norvège avec notre voiture. Nous souhaitions aller en Norvège d'une façon différente, notre objectif prendre l'Express côtier jusqu'aux Lofoten , y rester plusieurs jours, et redescendre tranquillement en voiture jusqu'à Paris
Nous sommes donc allés jusqu'au Danemark en voiture , ça se fait très bien, même s'il y a beaucoup de circulation ou travaux sur les autoroutes (il faut en tenir compte dans le temps de trajet)puis nous avons pris le ferry jusqu'à Bergen. Ensuite nous avons pris l'express Côtier de Bergen à Svolvaer aux Lofoten, nous avons beaucoup apprécié ce voyage.
Les bateaux de l'Hurtigruten s'arrêtent de port en port, on assiste au débarquements/embarquements des passagers et des marchandises, on peut descendre lors des escales , des excursions sont aussi organisées à certaines escales, et puis les paysages vus du bateau sont magnifiques. Notre bateau était très bien, bons repas.
L'intérêt de faire une partie en bateau et l'autre en voiture permet de voir la Norvège sous deux angles différents. Nous avons vraiment aimé cette formule et cette compagnie

Pour ce qui est de l'hébergement, nous sommes demeurés dans 3 différents hôtels, à Oslo, Bergen et Alesund. Nous avons toujours opté pour des chambres doubles avec salle de bain. Les prix que nous avons payé ont varié entre 325kr et 400kr par personne par nuit. Nous sommes toujours demeurés dans des hôtels de type "low budget", mais qui étaient cependant toujours bien situés, très propres, confortables et sécuritaires. Nous n'avons jamais eu de mauvaise surprise... Il faut savoir qu'en Norvège tout coûte les yeux de la tête, cependant, en ce qui nous concerne, la qualité a toujours été au rendez-vous.
En ce qui concerne les repas, nous nous sommes offerts un repas dans un restaurant une seule fois, à l'occasion de notre dernière soirée passée à Oslo. Nous sommes allés dans le Akker Brygge - le quartier "huppé" de la ville, dans un très bon restaurant, pour y manger des fruits de mer, et il nous en a coûté 400kr par personne pour une entrée, un plat principal et du vin (ça peut vous donner une idée !!). Tout le reste du voyage, nous nous sommes procuré nos repas dans des épiceries qui ont des comptoirs de plats préparés de bonne qualité et pas trop chers (environ 40 à 60kr par personne). Tout dépendant des endroits où nous étions, nous avons parfois fait réchauffer notre repas et mangé sur place, parfois ramené notre repas pour le manger à l'hôtel, dans les cas où avions accès à des micro-ondes ou une cuisine.
Pour ce qui est de voir des Aurores Boréales, je crois que l'idéal est de se rendre dans le Nord du pays, selon ce que j'ai entendu. Cependant, je ne me suis pas rendue dans la région du Nord et ne suis donc pas vraiment en mesure d'en parler...
Je n'ai pas pris l'Hurtigruten et ne suis pas en mesure d'en parler non plus. J'ai toutefois parlé à différentes personnes qui avaient voyagé avec cette compagnie. Certains ont aimé, certains non, alors j'imagine que ça dépend des goûts. Désolée de ne pas être en mesure de développer davantage...
Pour ce qui est du transport en général, compte tenu de notre échéancier très serré, nous avons opté pour l'avion entre Bergen et Alesund ainsi qu'entre Alesund et Oslo. Nous avons voyagé dans le premier cas avec SAS, et dans le second, avec Norwegian. Les deux compagnies sont similaires et nous avons trouvé cette option très efficace - puisqu'elle nous a chaque fois permis de faire en 45 minutes des déplacements qui auraient pu nous prendre plus de 12 heures par moyens terrestres. Nous avons par contre opté pour le train entre Oslo et Bergen. On nous avait dit de ne pas rater cette opportunité, en raison de la beauté des paysages que le train permet d'admirer. Nous n'avons en effet pas été déçus, puisque nous avons passé 6 heures dans le wagon restaurant - le nez collé à la fenêtre 😉 Une expérience magique - vraiment...
Nous ne nous sommes donc pas promenés en voiture. Cependant, il est clair que ce moyen permet bien davantage de liberté ! Compte tenu que les régions ne sont pas très populeuse, dans les petites villes et petits villages de la région des fjords, il n'y a souvent qu'un seul bus par jour pour se rendre d'un endroit à un autre, ce qui exige de tout planifier d'avance, pour être certain de ne pas rester "coincé" quelque part plus de 24 heures... Par ailleurs, en raison des montagnes et des cours d'eau, une distance aussi courte que 200km peut prendre plusieurs heures à parcourir, puisqu'il faut contourner les montagnes, et que, en raison des côtes et de l'étroitesse des chemins, il est difficile de rouler rapidement.

J'y ai effectivement navigué 6 fois : 1 fois en septembre, 2 fois en février, 1 fois en mars et 2 fois en avril. J'apprécie beaucoup mars-avril : le printemps dans le sud mais encore l'hiver au nord.
J'ai emprunté le train Oslo-Bergen, magnifique, lors de mon voyage de février 2002 et ai passé 4 jours au Lofoten en mars 2008

Pouvez-vous m'indiquer ce qu'il est raisonnable de faire pour 3 jours en norvege à la mi-mai, sachant qu'on arrive à l'aéroport rygge au sud d'oslo et que nous sommes intéressés comme la plupart à voir plutot des paysages fabuleux que de rester à oslo.
A 4, vous nous conseillez plutot voiture, train ? a t'on le temps de partir vers bergen ou y a t'il plus près des beaux paysages ?

Je suis d'accord avec vous. Bien que j'aie beaucoup aimé Oslo, ce sont surtout les paysages en Norvège qu'il faut voir !
Si vous avez trois jours, cela vous laisse très peu de temps. En Norvège, les distances sont relativement longues à parcourir. En raison des montagnes, les routes font beaucoup de détours et on ne peut pas rouler très vite. Le train peut être assez lent aussi, pour les mêmes raisons. Dans notre cas, comme nous étions aussi assez limités par le temps, nous avons opté pour l'avion. De mémoire, il me semble qu'il y avait deux compagnies qui assuraient les vols à l'intérieur du pays : Norwegian et SAS.
Vous pourriez donc prendre l'avion pour vous rendre directement à Bergen, et y passer une journée. Le lendemain, à partir de Bergen, je vous suggèrerais de faire le circuit "Norway in a nutshell", qui combine train et bateau, et qui vous permet de voir un parfait "condensé" des plus beaux paysages de la région des fjords (http://www.norwaynutshell.com/en/explore-the-fjords/norway-in-a-nutshell/#prices). Je vous suggère à ce sujet d'opter pour quelques heures de temps libre à Flam au milieu du parcours. Cet endroit est absolument magnifique, et très agréable pour y faire de courtes randonnées. À la fin du parcours, vous pouvez choisir soit de rentrer à Bergen, ou encore de partir vers Oslo.
J'espère que ça vous aide un peu... j'aurais aimé pouvoir vous donner plus d'information sur la région au sud d'Oslo, mais malheureusement, je ne connais pas du tout. J'ai concentré mon séjour sur la côte Ouest.

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?
- Is the road through the narrow valley of the White Lütschine toward Lauterbrunnen and beyond still worth it in terms of views and scenery?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’ll likely start from northern Finland (flight tickets and car rentals are more affordable there).

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
This route means renting a car in Finland and dropping it off in Norway. My initial searches are showing rental rates that are... astronomical—about three times the price compared to returning it at the starting point.
I’m guessing I’m not the only one wanting to visit both countries. Are there any great tips to drastically reduce the cost of renting a car?

I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay
D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there
D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there
D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night
D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night
D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda
D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there
D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions:
Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential...
Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day?
Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...

My husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland in September 2026.
We’ll be flying from Montreal to London, where we’ll spend three nights.
After that, we’ll head to Dublin for a few days and take trains to visit the main attractions.
Our ideal plan would be to choose hotels near train stations and take tours to the interesting spots.
Would 8 days in Ireland be enough for this kind of trip?
