Hi everyone,

In November, we’re planning to do the Ha Giang loop and the RC4 by motorbike without a guide. We’re looking for a decent place to stay/rent in Ha Giang.

If anyone has any info, we’d be really interested.

Thanks in advance! [;)] Ladava

Hi there, There are plenty of decent hotels on this loop. Just search on booking.com, for example. Below are the ones we stayed at.

- Ha Giang: Huong Thao 2 hotel - Dong Van: Hoang Ngoc - Yen Minh: Thao Nguyen - Meo Vac: Tien Cuong - Bao Lac: Duc Tai - Cao Bang: Hotel Jeanne - Lang Son: Van Xuan

It’s a beautiful region—you’re going to love it.

Hi, I might be going a bit off-topic, but just to give you some context—I’ve traveled this region solo twice. The first time was in March 2023, starting from Ha Giang, and the second in November 2024, starting from Cao Bang. The reason I’m mentioning this is that rental shops in Ha Giang are increasingly reluctant to rent 110cc bikes (or larger) to people who don’t have an international driver’s permit with the **À** stamp. Random checks are common, and rental shops can get into trouble too. If you *do* have the **À** stamp, no problem finding a bike. The second time around, I discovered the PG1 Yamaha, which I found perfect for this region (plus, I had my wife riding pillion).

If I were to do it again from Ha Giang, I’d go to Yen Linh Motorbike, for example: https://maps.app.goo.gl/eC2FQG3bCozXZ3vt6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

In 2023, I stayed and rented from here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xX9cGyRrwh7oxPyW8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

But there’s no shortage of accommodations or rental shops! Don’t hesitate to veer off the main road and take the small concrete trails that wind into the mountains—so many amazing surprises await! Wishing you fantastic weather! !

Thanks Tricmuche,

Not off-topic, it was really interesting.

Cheers

Just to clarify, we’re not bikers at all—we’re hikers. So I have no idea about those little constraints for bikers or whether the accommodations mentioned can help you out.

hi there I might sound negative but the motorcycle driving laws in Vietnam got a lot stricter in 2025....draconian highway police will confiscate your bike + issue a fine if you don’t have the registration in your name and all your papers in order do as you please I won’t be taking the risk best I’m staying in the center in a remote spot
si vous n'aimez pas mes informations, ne les lisez pas, lisez autre chose, mais respectez les car elles serviront a d'autres

Hi there, fines are common in this region, so an A license is highly recommended. Around Cao Bang, it's much more relaxed, and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking—the town is really pleasant too.

Monday’s list is excellent, except for Ha Giang. Here are my notes on 5 tours in Dong Van:

Ha Giang is a pretty town, but not very interesting. For accommodation, the best place used to be the Truong Xuan (Ha Giang Resort), 5 km from Ha Giang center on the road to Dong Van. It’s bad now, so stay in the Thai village of Than Tha, at Mr. WIN’s lovely guesthouse (03 64 86 67 66), with its varnished wooden bungalows + terrace offering a great view and excellent meals served by Mr. and Mrs. Win’s adorable daughter. Booking is essential. If it’s full, try Mr. Cây’s beautiful house—it has the big advantage of a pool (though the view isn’t as nice). Reservation: 09 79 75 94 67.

I rented a motorbike from Strawberry Ha Giang Loop. They offer 110 cc and 150 cc bikes, depending on your needs. They also provide a free night in a dorm before departure, which is super convenient. Tuấn and his team are really friendly—they helped and guided me throughout my 4-day loop journey. The vibe is welcoming, and you quickly feel right at home. I highly recommend this place! I’ve already told several friends about it, and they were also very happy and touched by Tuấn and his team’s kindness. You can contact him on WhatsApp: +84 981 159 668.
