Two years ago I paid 15,000 ariary!! Has it really doubled???
PA Pajot50 ·
Hi gerdan, there are also the taxi-bè as soon as you leave the airport. That’s who I take—1 000 AR MAX for getting to Hôtel Lambert up the steps.
JI Jipi Globetrotter ·
hey I'm talking about the official price here, but it's possible to take unofficial taxis or others you know how it works at Ivato if you've been there before see you

You can find a taxi for 12,000 to 15,000 Ar when leaving Ivato Airport. (Better to go for 15,000—it’s only about 1 euro and a few cents more.) Same price from Hôtel Lambert to the airport. Side note: If you're going to Lambert, ask the driver to drop you at the top of the stairs, not the bottom.

Actually, you *can* take a shared taxi, as Pajot50 mentioned, but it’s oversimplifying things—it’s more complicated than that. There’s no direct bus, and with luggage… I tried it but gave up right away. Worth a shot if you’re traveling light and looking for an adventure right off the bat.

Hey everyone, I might be a bit off I was giving the price for official airport taxis but I still think we're closer to the 15,000–20,000 Ar range right now because fuel prices have exploded over the past 6 months

Hi there,

If you're arriving at night, I’d recommend taking an official taxi, just to be safe. No need to deal with hassle after an 11-hour flight. The price ranges between 30,000 and 40,000 Ariary. 35,000 seems fair. The tip about Lambert is pretty good—great idea.

Best,😉

hi, luggage + taxi? It’s really not ideal r🤪 especially in that direction; waiting at the terminus in Ivato, the time before departure, and arriving in Tana—it’s a hassle. In the other direction, if there’s a hiccup with the Vasacosy-Ivato route, it’s a lifesaver in the early morning.

hi,

official price as Jipi mentioned, around those prices: 150,000 FMG. taxi-papango (sparrowhawk, no license parked outside the airport, 80,000 FMG). But don’t worry, luggage transport to the car and to your room is included. Still, you gotta know!

Hey

I paid 20,000 MGA two years ago, and in February it cost me 25,000 MGA after negotiating. So 25,000 to 30,000 MGA is the normal price. But I think it’s gone up again recently. See you

You can negotiate between 100,000 and 125,000 FMG right now because fuel prices have also gone up in Madagascar. However, in Tana, you can find taxis to the city for 10,000–15,000 FMG—you just have to negotiate. It’s true that some *vazaha* (foreigners) try to get the maximum price, but it’s better to wait 10 more minutes, and you’ll always find someone who stops and lets you negotiate. The best trick is to find someone to negotiate for you and give them 200 AR as a tip—it’s a handy tip!

When you start haggling over the price of a taxi in Madagascar after paying an airfare between 1,750,000 AR and 3,000,000 AR... Nobody asks how much a taxi driver earns for that trip, or the number of kilometers, the time it takes, or the amount of fuel! I’ve seen people get angry over an extra 500 FMG, which is equivalent to 0.076 euro cents... something for seasoned travelers to think about! Let’s stay reasonable! !
YV Yvonbrunet Regular ·
I'M NOT SAYING TO GET ANGRY OVER NOTHING, but I'm used to this because of my wife and in-laws who negotiate taxi fares. Personally, I prefer to negotiate and then give a tip to the driver—that’s just my way. By the way, 500 FMG is only 0.04 €, not 0.076 €.

Hi,

I just got back.

Taxi from Ivato to Tana: 30,000 Ariary – hard to get it cheaper, but possible. From Tana to Ivato: 15,000 Ariary, no problem (city taxi). City taxi: 3,000 Ariary.

Personally, for a city taxi, I go up to 4,000 Ariary (that’s just 0.40 € extra compared to what a Malagasy would pay).

Hey Jipi,

Safe travels on your way back! Hope you have a great stay too, even though I only stayed for a short time and didn’t leave Tana. I found a pretty nice hotel: L'Hotel Le Saint PIERRE. It’s right near the town hall of the 1st Arrondissement, so very central. The street-side rooms are quite noisy—there’s a taxi stand right outside the hotel. But they also have courtyard rooms that are quiet. There’s also an annex near the Chinese market on an adjacent street—very peaceful but a bit farther from the hotel restaurant, so be careful at night. The owner is friendly and not "worn out" by life in Madagascar! 😎

There’s a restaurant in the courtyard, super quiet, or an indoor dining room. Not many rooms, about ten, I think. The Malagasy staff are friendly, as usual!

Price: 45,000 Ariary per night

Karaoke night on Fridays until 11 PM. It’s fun to see the Malagasy clientele grab the mic and sing along to Malagasy songs together.

Anyway, I really liked it. But I was looking for a central hotel to take care of some administrative tasks.

I’ll post about my Air Mad flight later. Right now, I’m craving a nice, creamy "Paris-Brest"! lol 😏

Best regards, 😉

As of 2024, the normal price is 70,000 Ar if you take a random taxi at the airport.
