Nous nous posons beaucoup de questions, notamment sur la sécurité au Guatémala pour 2 routardes seules...
J'ai déjà voyagé de nombreuses fois avec mon petit ami mais ma copine n'a pas d'expérience de voyage..
Pensez vous que cela soit risqué (en prenant bien sûr les précautions élémentaires!)
et quels endroits seraient éventuellement à éviter seules?? (je ne parle pas de la capitale que nous fuierons dès notre arrivée!)
Nous aimons la nature, les sites archéologiques, les villages et les volcans!!
J'ai été au Guatemala en janvier, février et mars 2002, ce dont je me souviens particulièrement c'est qu'on m'avait fortement conseillé de ne pas louer de voiture, d'utiliser plutôt les transport en commun, les autocars ou les "chicken bus". Sur lesroutes, le pillage des touristes était assez fréquent. Par contre, en bus, à chaque arrêt, surveille bien ton sac de voyage, il peut partir vite... Sans cela, j'ai fait un excellent voyage avec ma copine, Antigua (super!), Lago Atitlan (génial!, je te conseille San Pedro, très relax, un des coins le moins cher du pays, le spagh chez Tony's est pas mal!), Monterricco, la plage baignable la plus proche de la capitale ( très facile d'y travailler et être logée gratos ou pas cher) et si tu as le temps, Semuc-champey, près de Cobàn, est vraiment un endroit paradisiaque!!!

Je peux te dire que le seul endroit au Guatemala ou on ne se sentait pas en securite cest la capitale. Partout ailleurs on se sentait a laise de marcher dans la rue le soir. Si tu parles espagnol cest encore mieux les gens sont encore plus acceuillant je crois. On avait entendu quelques histoires dhorreurs bien sur mais en etant prudentes et en respectant les gens tu va faire un super voyage!

J'ai voyagé seule il y a quelques années de Cancun à Tulum. Dans cette région il y a beaucoup de touristes qui voyagent. Je n'ai eu aucun problème. Près de Tulum, il y a un centre d'hébergement. Quelques cases, je dormais dans un hamac. Il y avait beaucoup d'étrangers, certains dormaient sur la plage.
J'ai connu le Guatemala, il y a très longtemps, avec un copain. Je n'aurais pas la même confiance seule.
Ce qu'il faut éviter ce sont les endroits déserts, ne pas sortir le soir. Les hommes boivent beaucoup surtout en fin de semaine.

J'ai voyagé pendant un an au Méxique, et ai malheureusement du partir avant de voir le Guatemala. Pendant tous ces voyages, j'ai rencontré des femmes voyageant seules, et je n'ai pas ressenti de grande crainte.
De toute façon je pense que si tu voyages et vis avec respect, la population t'accueuillera plus que bien, et donc te donnera ses recommendations... A suivre plus ou moins selon tes humeurs, et à comparer. Si tu donnes, tu reçois beaucoup, le Mexique m'a remercié à sa façon en m'offrant les moments les plus beaux de ma vie jusqu'à présent (je n'ai que 21ans), et ses paysages déjà somptueux ne sont rien à côté de ses gens...! Les compagnons de route ayant été au Guatemala, comme un Gualtemaltèque rencontré dans le désert méxicain, m'en ont parlé comme d'un pays magnifique à la population richissime de diversité... Leurs conseils furent d'éviter la capitale (les mauvaises zones surtout), et de respecter un minimum les conseils de ses habitants, notamment la nuit.
Si tu parles espagnol, je peux te donner le mail de quelqu'un là bas qui se fera un plaisir de te conseiller, tant par écrit que par photo, ou de te donner de bons tuyaux peu touristique, ce qui pour moi est un avantage énorme quand on n'a que 3 semaines pour voir un pays. Mais ça, c'est chacun ses goûts. Pour le Mexique, je suis là si tu veux.

Je pars normalement un mois au Mexique, je commence par deux semaines en chantier international mais je souhaiterais voir le Mexique mais pas du point de vue "touristique", il me restera deux semaines pour découvrir les gens et leur pays donc je commence à me renseigner pour me faire un début de feuille de route car je serais seule et je viendrais d'avoir 20 ans ! J'aime beaucoup l'esprit du message, mais pour mieux te répondre, pourrais tu me dire dans quel coin tu vas être à l'issue des deux semaines de chantier ? Parce que des destinations au Mexique.. tu peux aller partout et en trouver, promis.
Comme ça, en premier jet, je peux te donner des villes ou endroits "connus" mais relativement pas encore trop touristique ou d'un esprit plutôt positif.
Ville:
Oaxaca,
San Cristobal de las Casas (point de départ, ville super sympa mais touristique. Aux alentours il y a plein de choses mais ne te cantonnes pas aux prospectus, c'est blindé de touristes... Palenque par exemple, lèves toi tôt pour y aller, ça en vaut la peine, mais plus tu es seul(e ?) mieux c'est..)
Zacatecas (dans l'état du même nom), est une ville superbe, vivante, avec des petits musées, galeries, cafés etc dans chaque rue. Un bien bonne ambiance dans cette ville où les "fresa" ("type fils à papa mexicain") ne sont pas bien vus! En plus en sortant de la ville, il y a une ruine (la quemada il me semble) qui n'est pas trop connu, donc tu peux y aller tranquilou (j'y suis allé deux fois.. guitare à la main, personne... bien!)
Côté Yucatan etc... c'est super touristique, mais tu peux rencontrer quelqu'un qui te fera connaître les bons côtés (pas les Paris Hilton qui traînent de partout, mais avouons qu'un sable aussi fin et blanc sur de l'eau aussi turquoise... c'est quand même sympa!) Tulum est pas trop touristique encore si tu t'éloignes des ruines, mais c'est cher, et les mexicains sont pas les plus sympas que tu rencontreras.. En fait de ce côté j'ai pas trop été.. j'avais perdu argent papier visa, donc à part faire la plonge a Playa del Carmen (ville génial pour sortir en boîte avec des ricains ou des mexicains "branchés".., mais bon.. après les gens là bas m'ont bien aidé mine de rien..!)
Du côté du désert et du tropique du cancer, il y a San Luis de Potosi, point de départ pour jeter un oeil à Real de Catorce (bien touristique mais ça vaut le coup), et puis après tu peux dormir dans les environs, à Wadley par exemple, pour quedale, ou au Ranchito Coronado. Si une bonne rencontre t'arrive, chaman ou adepte du peyotl se feront peut être connaître...!
Plus au Nord encore, tu as la ligne de train Las Mochis - Chihuahua, avec quelques stations où tu peux descendre et rencontrer des choses bien plus sympas que celles "réputées". C'est comme ça que nous avions connu un "guide", visiter la grotte où il s'était caché 3 mois après avoir fait l'amour à une fille sans être mariée, le père le pourchassant..!, et aussi camper dans un endroit... wahou... incroyable..!)
La côte du Pacifique est d'un bien meilleure ambiance que celle du golfe, avec des plages encore désertes, ou presque, et dautres plus "roots", après à toi de juger et de voir ce que tu veux.. Zippolite (surtout Mazunte à côté!), Maruata plus proche de l'état de Colima mais dans le Michoacan (encore une fois, on nous avait recommandé la plage principale, mais ça nous a saoulé, les mex de là bas étant pas specialement cool, on a bougé, et trouvé un petit chemin..: ptite crique, ptite maison avec la famille qui nous a accueilli plusieurs fois dans l'année au final! en bon équilibre et avec le sourire et le respect, tu vas loin au mexique.!)
Bon je sais pas trop ce que tu recherches exactement, mais l'esprit de te laisser guider est très bon. 1 euro vaut en ce moment entre 16 et 17 pesos (pouvoir d'achat génial!! quand j'y étais c'était 1e=13pesos) Une carte d'étudiant (méxicaine falisfiée ou française ça marche parfois) te donne 50% de reduction (vraiment vraiment sympa ça!), mais ça ne marche que pendant les vacances, donc.. heuh... juillet sûr, debut aout aussi, avant je sais pas trop. à toi de checker ça.
Les bus premières classes sont de vrais avions, c'est ouf! Mais ya toujours aussi un ptit terminal caché avec des vieux bus..! Parfois vaut mieux négocié avec un bus moyen que de prendre un bus pourri, pour avoir comparé plusieurs fois.. quelque pesos en plus peuvent être intéressant..
exemples: Palenque - Tulum genre 400pesos, négocié à 300 jcrois (c'est loin, dsl..)
Guadalajara - Mexico Df qlqch com 400 pesos aussi il me semble (7-8h de route) Je sais pas trop, je voyageais en stop ou avec ma voiture quand j'ai pu l'acheter (ou la faire fonctionner..)
Pour les hôtels, tu peux t'en sortir pour 50pesos (3euros) facilement, 20 pesos pour poser son hamac sur les plages du pacifique (c bizarre je sais, ms tu comprendras sur place!) bcp plus sur celles du Golf du Mex.
Après si tu veux une bonne douche chaude etc.. faudra mettre un peu plus. A San Cristobal par contre tu as plein d'"Hostal", super sympas et pas cher, 50 pesos c très facile à trouver!! moins cher aussi, mais si tu te trouves qlqch avec une bonne ambiance, les 10 ou 20 pesos de plus n'ont pas bcp d'importance à mon sens..
La nourriture... une Comida Corrida (menu tout inclus boisson etc mais en mode pas cher) peut te couter..hmm entre 25 et 40 pesos. Un tacos (les meilleurs sont à Guadalajara ou à Mexico, encore que .. ) coûte entre 3 et 8 pesos, t'en mange trois par petite faim ou 6 par bonne faim (un copain en mangait 12 ou 15.. mais bon... il était étrange..)

From my research, I understand that most "activities," accommodations, and transportation are best arranged day by day, depending on opportunities and encounters. Without an agency, everything is organized on the spot.
I’d love to hear more opinions on this, especially regarding the Orkhon Valley.
Here’s the itinerary I’m planning:
* UB -> Mörön (flight) -> Khatgal (local buses)
A few days at Lake Khövsgöl
* Khatgal -> Mörön -> Jargalant -> Tariat (local buses)
A few days at the White Lakes
* White Lakes -> Tsetserleg -> Kharkhorin (4x4 with driver)
A few days in the Orkhon Valley
+ the Eight Lakes (horseback trekking with a guide)

From what I’ve gathered, the first part should be fairly straightforward, but I have questions about the Orkhon Valley.

Have any of you made this trip by booking a driver on the spot when arriving in Tsetserleg? Was it easy to find an available driver? And did you find it easy/difficult/impossible to find other travelers to share the ride with? Ideally, I’d like to share this leg with fellow travelers.
-> The Eight Lakes: Could you share your experience with the Eight Lakes? Did you easily find a guide directly on site? Were you able to share this experience with other travelers?

I’m considering a road trip (rental car) to explore the Canadian Rockies in September 2026, starting in Calgary and ending with about 10 days in Vancouver and the surrounding area. (Two weeks in the Rockies and a little under two weeks in Vancouver and nearby.)
I’d like to say that being a woman traveling alone doesn’t really bother me. That’s not the issue. Being a woman is just how it is, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, but traveling solo is something I could fix by finding travel companions. However, I had a not-so-great experience in India with two girls who were total strangers at first and turned out to be quite annoying, so I’m a bit put off by the idea now.
My question is simple, assuming I do this trip alone: is it worth sticking *only* to driving? I have **zero** sense of direction—with a map, I’m hopeless. So, is it realistic to think, "With my GPS, I’ll just drive from Calgary to Vancouver and see what I see," since I don’t see myself hiking alone? I’m not easily scared, but I wouldn’t feel confident doing that solo. Unless all the sightseeing is done with a guide (but then, hello, the cost—my budget isn’t exactly overflowing).
What do you all think?

my friend, with whom I traveled to Iran, Myanmar, and India, really wanted to take a one-month trip to Armenia and Georgia. So we booked our flights (June 21 to July 19), but disaster struck—she can’t travel anymore due to serious family reasons.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a few tips that really helped me better prepare my carry-on luggage. After a few trips (and some mistakes too!), I’ve finally found a way to organize myself that makes life a lot easier. Maybe this can help other travelers here.
1. Choose a practical and sturdy bag
A good bag is the foundation. I’ve noticed that a model with a solid structure, sturdy wheels, and a well-thought-out interior really changes the experience. Hard-shell suitcases hold up better, especially when you’re hopping between flights. Personally, I use a Lambert suitcase because the interior is super well-divided, but the important thing is to find a model that works for you.
2. Rolling your clothes really works
It’s simple, but it saves so much space. Plus, it wrinkles less. I do this now for almost everything, especially lightweight clothes.
3. Keep everything in a small kit
100 ml liquids, toothbrush, cream, mini first-aid kit… Having all of that in one clear toiletry bag makes going through security much easier. It saves you from having to take everything out and put it back in a rush.
4. A pouch for essentials
Passport, headphones, charger, phone… I keep all of that in the same pouch. It saves so much stress when you need to find something quickly, especially on the plane.
5. Traveling lighter makes all the difference
Since I started choosing versatile clothes that mix and match well, I travel with a lot less. Less weight, fewer decisions to make, fewer things to lug around. It honestly makes traveling so much more enjoyable.
From the conversations I’ve had with other travelers (and several customers too), I’ve realized you can really simplify your trip just by organizing a little better and choosing good accessories.
If you have other tips or methods that work for you, I’d love to read them. We always learn from others on this forum.

Exploring India by road is all about having a good driver. I highly recommend the one I’ve traveled with for 5 "safe" trips—Rajasthan 3 times over 16 years, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. He’s been driving tourists for 25 years now and is more than just a driver. He knows how to talk about his country, the cities you visit, and suggests alternative routes.
He’s well-connected with real local guides who don’t just ramble (as he puts it himself) or drag you into shops claiming to be run by their "so-called family." Depending on your preferences, he can suggest well-tested itineraries and recommend typical hotels like Havelis.
For dining, he oversees meal prep based on your spice-level preferences. He’s Sikh and deeply respectful of his passengers.
He speaks English better than French, but one of his daughters is studying French at university.

I land at 9:30 PM, plus time to clear customs, pick up my luggage, and exchange some money—figure an extra 30 to 45 minutes. Planned arrival on Sunday evening, November 16, 2025, in San José. Staying 3 nights, then taking a bus to Tortuguero for 2 nights. Looking for a shared shuttle to La Fortuna for 2 nights, then a van-boat-van combo to Santa Elena for 2 or 3 nights. Heading to Quepos for 4 nights for day trips using local buses—Jaco, San Antonio, Uvita. After that, a full-day bus ride to Cahuita. I’m booking hotels as I go, which gives me the flexibility to stay longer in places I like. I’m looking for accommodations in city centers near restaurants and not too far from the bus station. This is a warning message! I’d like to address it especially to young women traveling alone for the first time in India. Other travelers may react to my post based on their own experiences, but I think what I’m about to say shouldn’t be taken lightly—unless that’s what you’re looking for!
Last July, I traveled to Northern India. I stopped in Khajuraho to see the famous tantric temples. I stayed one night, and that was more than enough. Khajuraho is very touristy, but you should know that 80% of young Indian men there are "gigolos." Locals call these young men (aged 18 to 30) "playboys" or "Lapka" (which means "capture the woman" in Hindi)!!!
They approach tourists with kindness and politeness, offering tea or a motorcycle ride (which they’ve often gotten from generous Western female tourists) to waterfalls a few kilometers from Khajuraho or other tourist sites. After befriending you, they charm you—be careful, these are professionals who are very skilled at this; it’s all they do, and they do it well. They’ll offer you food, drinks, and even temple entry to confuse you. They’ll suggest spending the evening or even the night with them. **Refuse (unless you’re into local flings and that’s why you came)!!!!**
At first, you’ll be seduced by their generosity, let your guard down, and then they’ll make you believe in *true love*. They won’t leave you alone and will keep in touch via email or phone if you give them your details. The lines they use to soften you up and scam you include: *"I’m the only one taking care of my family, my brother is sick, I don’t know what to do..."* All of this is to manipulate you into offering them money. They’ll never ask for it outright (to avoid being exposed) but will wait for you to suggest it.
If you receive emails from them, they’ll never be signed, and their name won’t appear in the email address (to avoid leaving traces). They use fake names to avoid being reported. If you believe their sob stories and offer help, they’ll give you a bank account number to send money via Western Union. These young men make a living from this—selling their bodies and scamming people! They’re very skilled, charming, manipulative, and *big-time cheaters*!
(Especially one young man who goes by the alias *Tony*—apparently the most skilled. He lives in a hotel near the lake, *Krishna Cottage*, and is in regular contact via Skype with Western women he’s tricked into believing he loves them while shamelessly scamming them. He even opened an internet café on the roof of the hotel with money he stole from women who fell for his charm.)
So, young romantic women craving love, sensitive singles, or anyone emotionally vulnerable—**don’t let yourself be scammed!!!** This behavior is becoming more common in India and is still relatively unknown. Male prostitution is on the rise, and cases of romantic scams and financial fraud by gigolos are increasing.
hi everyone! I’d like to visit Montreal and the surrounding areas in August, and I’ve got 3 weeks of vacation. I’m traveling alone and will be visiting my daughter, who recently moved there. She’ll be working and only available in the evenings! So I’m torn between spending a week in Montreal, then taking a flight to Cuba, and returning to France from Havana—or staying in Montreal and exploring the nearby areas alone.
For my first idea—going to Cuba—is it feasible in terms of administrative formalities and legality? And for my second idea, is it possible to take buses? If so, is it too expensive? And are there many places served by them?

I just got back from an unforgettable road trip in Madagascar where I drove down the legendary RN7. It connects Tana (the capital) to Tulear.

My friend and I are traveling together between October and November 2025—no exact dates yet.
We’d love to step away from the typical travel agency packages and are hoping to rent a car locally and stay with locals, living with them rather than in a vacation rental.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
