Je lis dans les nouvelles que certains touristes ont fait des malaises...j'ai qq allergies, est-ce que je dois craindre pour ma santé sur place ?
Je me dis que si ma copine chinoise survit à la pollution à l'année longue je devrais pas me plaindre pour 20 jours. Mais j'ai lu que pour un touriste la réaction peut être plus forte car subite.
Est-ce que je dois prévoir un masque ? (l'efficacité ne semble pas prouvée...) Des médicaments ?

Oui, je pense que tout le monde comprend très bien car effectivement la réputation de Pékin et Shanghai question pollution atmosphérique est bien établie.
Ceci étant dit va sans crainte.
Oui Pékin est très polluée, Shanghai aussi, mais on peut quand même respirer ! Je n'ai d'ailleurs quasiment jamais vu quelqu'un porter un masque là bas, contrairement au Japon.
Ce qui m'a le plus frappé à Pékin, plus que le voile de pollution qui recouvre la ville, c'est la sécheresse de l'air. Mais peut-être l'un est la conséquence de l'autre.
Et puis tout dépend aussi de la saison à laquelle tu comptes t'y rendre. De la saison d'une part et de la météo à ce moment là, en particulier s'il y a du vent ou pas.
Suzhou et Hangzhou sont beaucoup moins polluées, Suzhou en particulier, du moins c'est ce que j'ai ressenti les fois où j'y étais.

L'efficacité des masques (même ceux des américains aux JO de Pékin) n'a pas été prouvée semble-t-il que ça protège surtout de l'odeur. Sinon ça contribuerait à faire respirer encore plus intensément donc à inhaler encore plus de particules.
Les politiques environnementales semblent la seule vraie issue mais aucun pouvoir politique n'y est réellement attaché en priorité...
Je peux parler de Beijing en particulier. C'est la ville qui a la pire réputation probablement parce que c'est la capitale et donc elle fait le plus parler d'elle.
La ville de Beijing est plate et entourée de montagnes. L'air y reste à moins que les vents se lèvent ou qu'il pleuve. Le niveau de pollution est donc dépendant de la météo avant tout. Il est donc impossible de prévoir le niveau de météo d'une journée à l'autre. Mais il ne pleut pas souvent et l'air est très sec car il y a le désert de Gobi juste à côté. Ceci explique d'ailleurs les tempêtes de sable occasionnelles au printemps.
Comme tu le souligne, des millions de personnes y vivent et ce n'est pas quelques jours qui vont changer ta vie ou avoir un effet durable sur la santé d'un touriste. Si tu es extrêmement sensible et a déjà des problèmes de santé alors il vaut mieux amener tes médicaments. Le masque peut aider mais ce doit être un N95 sinon c'est inutile. Le masque est très populaire au Japon mais ce n'est pas pour la pollution mais plutôt une question de civisme. Tout personne qui est malade, qui a la grippe, portera un masque afin d'éviter d'infecter les autres car on vis très serré au Japon, surtout dans les transports en commun.
Enfin, la personne qui dit que les autorités ne font rien est complètement dans le champs. Les chinois ne sont pas différents des autres, ils aiment l'air pur et l'eau propre. Au cours des dernières années de nombreuses mesures ont été prises comme obliger le déménagement de presque toutes les industries les plus polluantes, une expansion ultra rapide du métro nécessitant es milliards pour en faire le plus important métro au monde, limiter le nombre d'automobiles sur la route de deux façons. La première est que, basé sur votre numéro de plaque, vous ne pouvez conduire votre auto une certaine journée de la semaine (ex. si votre plaque se termine pas 6, pas le droit d'utiliser votre auto le mardi). De plus acheter une auto est très difficile. Ils émettent que très peu de plaques qui sont émises par loterie. Si vous voulez une auto vous devez avoir une plaque et vos chances sont de 1 sur 40 selon les mois. Ça peut donc prendre quelques années (en supposant que vous soyez même admissible à la loterie). La nouvelle mesure actuellement discutée veut que lors des journées de très fortes pollution, seules les plaques terminant par un chiffre pair ou impair (selon la journée) puissent rouler. Donc impossible de conduire votre auto 50% de temps.
Je connais bien Beijing pour y avoir vécu.
Quelques commentaires complémentaires :
Si la pollution de Beijing est bien pire que celle de (par exemple) Los Angeles, mégalopole très embouteillée, c'est que la croissance de la circulation automobile n'est pas la seule cause de la pollution.
Une cause typiquement chinoise est l'utilisation d'un charbon de mauvaise qualité (du fait de sa teneur en soufre) pour la production d'énergie électrique et pour le chauffage domestique, et de l'insuffisance des filtres quand il y en a.
Une autre cause est liée à la corruption et l'absence de démocratie. Il est plus facile aux dirigeants d'industries polluantes de donner des enveloppes rouges ou de faire tabasser les gêneurs que de nettoyer leurs usines. Il est frappant que la pollution atteigne de nouveaux records moins de six ans après la fermeture ou le déménagement des industries les plus polluantes avant les JO de 2008.
Le masque est porté tout autant en Chine qu'au Japon, pour les mêmes raisons : par civisme pour éviter de contaminer les autres quand on est malade. Je suis d'accord que ces masques n'ont aucune efficacité contre la pollution.
Le fait que l'amie chinoise de Geenee vive avec cette pollution ne prouve rien à court terme. On en reparlera dans quarante ans.
Je ne crois pas qu'il y ait des médicaments utiles contre la pollution.
Bien sûr, ce n'est pas une ville très saine, mais je considère que venir quelques semaines à Beijing n'est pas une prise de risques excessive (à moins d'avoir déjà de sérieux problèmes respiratoires). Le risque d'accident de la circulation est à mon avis bien supérieur.

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.

Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.
