hi Are there any ferries that take cars from Turkey to the Greek islands—for example, Bodrum to Kos? Could you give me the details? Thanks

Hi there,

There are only two regular daily ferry lines that carry vehicles: Ayvalik-Mytilini and Cesme-Chios, operated by the Turkish company Turyol (turyol.com). Elsewhere, it's catamarans for passengers only: Kusadasi-Vathy (Samos), Bodrum-Kos, Fethiye or Marmaris-Rhodes, operated by Makritravel (makritravel.com). In season, there’s an Izmir-Mytilini route and a boat that carries cars from Bodrum to Kos, but you’ll have to wait until March-April for the 2025 schedules.

Once they’re published (check gtp.gr regularly), book quickly: the new fast visa system makes it easy for Turkish tourists to travel to Greece, and they bring their cars. Belgian and Dutch campervan travelers taking the Balkan route also pass through the Dardanelles straits and Turkish ports to reach the Greek islands, as the ferry trip from Italy and Piraeus costs an arm and a leg.

Of course, everything can change depending on the geopolitical situation or health conditions, but the sultan has calmed down for now.

Happy trip planning!
