Nous partons en couple à Bali et je suis en cours de réflexion sur notre circuit.
Les grandes étapes sont claires, reste l'agencement entre elles, le côté "optimisation" du voyage.
Nos étapes :
- Ubud - 3 jours / 4 nuits minimum
- Munduk : 2 jours / 3 nuits
- Batur : juste la nuit la veille de la montée
- Amed : 2 jours
- Gili Air : 3 nuits
- Lombok : 3 nuits à Kuta
- Sanur : juste la dernière nuit
Au départ je pensais faire un circuit "classique" avec transfert en taxi ou bemo ou autre, de ville en ville et location de scooter sur place pour explorer les environs. La succession des étapes se faisait alors comme présenté ci-dessus.
Ayant lu que certains avaient choisi l'option location de scooter à Ubud avec 1 aller-retour sur Munduk, puis un autre pour Batur, je me pose la question de la solution la plus adaptée à Bali, pour optimiser les déplacements.
Nous voyageons en mode sac à dos.
Quelle distance "raisonnable" -voilà bien une notion subjective !- peut on absorber en scooter dans une journée ?
Par exemple, un aller-retour Ubud-Sidemen est il envisageable ? (65km d'après google map)
le scooter c'est super mais pour rayonner car les déplacements sont lents et les routes mauvaises et sinueuses.
Le mieux, selon moi, est de loger dans chacune des étapes que tu as mentionnées, puis louer une fois sur place un scooter. tu y gagneras en flexibilité et en confort. Faut pas oublier non plus qu'après plusieurs journées complètes en scooter, on attrape mal aux fesses et ça devient assez inconfortable.
Pour te donner une idée, certes, ubud-munduk est faisable dans la journée mais il te faudra un peu plus d'1h de trajet à chaque fois. Si tu veux t'arrêter au milieu, rien de t'empêche de prendre un tour ou un chauffeur qui te conduira partout où tu voudras
L'aller retour Ubud Sidemen dans la journée est faisable .
Si vous allez à Ubud Sidemen la journée en scooter (les paysages sont splendides), faites une ballade dans les rizières à Sidemen.
Puis, ce n'est que mon humble avis, il est dommage de se retaper sidemen-ubud quand vous pouvez rester pour la nuit dans un petit village tellement charmant, dans un petit hôtel vraiment sympa avec vue sur les rizières (pour un prix très abordable).

Le circuit n'est en rien bouclé et même si je sais là où je voudrais aller, reste à agencer les étapes entre elles. Il n'est donc pas impossible d'envisager une nuit sur Sidemen...
Le Batur ne semble plus être à l'ordre du jour : les commentaires sur la "mafia" locale ne m'incitent pas à me rendre là bas, et les paysages n'ont rien éveillé chez moi. Par contre, la rando au sommet du Ijen me tenterait bien, tout comme celle du Rinjani. Rien à voir entre les 2 "grimpettes", et c'est bien là la difficulté du choix ; Avons nous envie de nous faire mal sur le Rinjani ? d'y consacrer 3 jours ?
L'organisation pour rejoindre Java et monter au mont Ijen semble bien rôdée et facilement gérable directement depuis Ubud ; je ne me fais donc pas de soucis de ce côté là.
En fait, je n'aime pas l'idée de me "disperser" lors d'un voyage. C'est à dire que j'aime "faire" un pays / une île plutôt que de papillonner sur plusieurs et l'idée d'aller sur Java uniquement pour ce mont n'est pas en accord avec mon fonctionnement. La rigidité n'étant jamais bonne, je laisse infuser l'idée.

plutot d accord avec nadeger, 25-30km/h AU MIEUX, et encore moins des que tu passes dans des secteurs, à des jours, à des heures de pointe (si tu dois passer par le sud par exemple), donc par exemple, pour ubud sidemen, je compterais 2h aller, 2h retour. comme les scooters sont ce qu ils sont au niveau suspension, il y a moyen de se tanner la peau des fesses AU MIEUX, ce qui compromet la balade du lendemain, voire de se tasser la colonne, ce qui peut etre bcp moins amusant... regarde bien l etat des scooters, pense si tu as le choix, qu une difference de 2 ou 3$ sur le prix peut aussi faire la difference entre des vacances reussies et un dos en vrac.
pour ubud-munduk, je suppose qu il y a une erreur de frappe dans le post d ali3 (ou alors il y a des raccourcis connus de lui seul), il faut se taper une boucle par le sud avec le trafic delirant, et les routes de montagnes sont tres escarpees. ce sera plutot 15-20km/h de moyenne, soit 3 bonnes heures de trajet (donc 6h AR, la descente mettant les freins des scooters a tres rude epreuve), surtout si tu ne resistes pas a ralentir, voire à t arreter pour profiter du paysage.
l avantage de louer a ubud: le choix et le prix, le desavantage: passer bcp trop de temps sur la moto, trop de temps en proportion du temps d une journee, trop de temps pour ton dos, ou encore trop de temps par rapport aux risques que tu prends en conduisant un scooter a bali
je me suis balade a moto dans la plupart des pays d asie du sud est, c est chaud un peu partout, mais bali etait ma pire experience avec le vietnam, surtout du fait de la densite du trafic, tu n y seras pas a la plus haute saison mais meme en septembre, tu prendras cher au niveau poussees d adrenaline
c'est en cherchant quelques infos sur la colombie et la possibilité de louer un scoot la bas ? que je tombe sur ton poste dont je me dois de laisser ma trace puisque je viens de finir un trip de 47 jours a travers bali, java et sumatra avec un total kilo de 7000 sur Medan....
j'ai acheté fin novembre une honda karisma, typé semi automatique, ensuite, j'ai commencé par remonter sur bedugule, munduk et permutan pour bali....
le reste, c'est une autre histoire mais si cela t'interesse, c('est par ici
tout cela pour dire et suivant mon experience sur le pays que rouler sur bali est une promenade de santé en comparaison de ce que j'ai vécu durant ce trip, autant sur le bon état des routes que sur la circulation et les quelques virolos dans les montagnes se passent sans probleme.
de mon avis, loue un scoot sur la cote, vers sanur par exemple et fais toi une boucle sur l'ile...c'est vraiment tres facile, enfin tout depends de l'experience de chacun of corse.
par contre, n'oublie pas ton permis international et gare a toi si tu n'as pas le permis moto, car les flics connaissent notre systeme, il faut au moins le permis 125....
j'informe cela en connaissance de cause, sur sanur, je me suis fais controler 4 fois..... ils cherchent la tune....alors que sur java et sumatra, je n'ai eu aucun controle.

en effet, je voulais dire que pour faire ubud-munduk ça serait très long surtout en scooter et donc beaucoup plus d'une heure. On avait un chauffeur pour la journée et avons fait arrêt dans les rizières de Jatiluwih, le jardin botanique et le lac bratan. On a dormi à l'aller comme au retour dans la voiture ^^
de bedugule et le lac, tu peux aussi aller en scoot sur jatiluwih et meme plus loin, jusqu'au temple batukau qui est tres beau et surtout tres calme.... une balade qui se fait dans la journée en prenant son temps, de plus, c'est tres bien indiqué et donc quasiment impossible de se perdre, au pire, les autochtones se feront un plaisir de vous renseigner...

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

Why not explore the Peloponnese!
I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
