n'ayant pa pu trouver de vols secs a prix raisonnable pour bamako jai opté pour un AR sur dakar et rejoindre le mali par voie terrestre...quelqu'un a t il deja pris le train reliant dakar à bamako? il parait qu'il faut une journée et demi? il y a t il des arrets frequents pour profiter du trajet? et quelqu'un connait il le prix et si le train est bien regulier en juillet aout ?
d'autre part du coup vu que je debarque mi juillet a dakar que je connais deja mais je n'y ai plus de contacts car çà fait deja qq années mon sejour sur place, peut on m'indiquer une petite auberge pas chere et familiale ou poser mon sac, j'angoisse a l'idée de retrouver l'ambiance alpagueuse du senegal et en meme temps jsuis bien contente car c'est des tas d'emotions...

le train Dakar-Bamako roule toujours. Mais, pas de jours précis, faut juste aller demander à la gare quand il partira.
Il y a aussi les bus, que je trouve plus pratique. Ils traverseront le Sénégal jusqu'à la frontière malienne, puis direction Bamako.
Je ne vois pas pourquoi tu angoisses, c'est sur que l'arrivée sera folklorique, et que Dakar n'a pas vraiment changé, mais tu trouveras ce qu'il faut ici.

si tu veut une auberge de passage, avec un excelent rapport qualité prix (8000cfa par nuit) et un accueil chaleureux, je te conseil l'ESPACE THIALLY a Patte doie Builders. Excelent pour les routard ou touristes de passage, j'y ai moi même séjourné.
Qu'est-ce que tu appelles pas cher ? Plutot chez l'habitant ou bien le fait de croiser des toubabs au petit déjeuner ne te dérange pas ?
Je ne peux que te conseiller l'Espace Thially, endroit calme et sûr. Tu trouveras renseignements et coordonnées sur www.cauris.sn ; tenu par deux Français installé ici depuis un long moment déjà. Excellente adresse, beaucoup de rencontres plus qu'interessantes... Nuitée à 13000 CFA, petit dej inclus.
Rapport qualité/prix, c'est actuellement ce que j'ai de mieux a proposer. Evite comme la peste tous les hotels situés sur le Plateau...
Concernant le train : arme-toi de patience, tant pour attrapper le train que pour supporter le trajet. Il n'y a plus qu'un départ par semaine, la rame sénégalaise étant en réparatin depuis... 3 ans. Autant dire qu'elle n'a plus aucune chance de sortir des ateliers. Seule la rame malienne roule encore, comme elle peut.
Le Trajet dure en moyenne trois jours, parfois deux, souvent 4... Prévoir de l'eau minérale ! Le prix est de +/- 25000 CFA en deuxième classe, 35000 en première et 50000 en couchette. La deuxième classe n'est pas conseillée.
merci pour les reponses des uns et autres, bon les hebergements je vais faire radine mais je paie jamais l'hotel en afrique et je crois pas avoir depenser plus de 4000CFA pour dormir donc mettre plus de 10000 çà represente un budget de quelques jours ou un trajet ...bref sur dakar apparemment çà coute un peu, moi jai toujours fonctionné chez l'habitant donc sans trop de rapport d'argent plus du genre a payer un sac de riz en partant ou a participer aux frais de repas de la cour et là encore je crois que çà va finir comme cela car jai des contacts, merci le forum d'ailleurs et moyen de voir avec des familles d'accueil sur place pour qq euros .

et puis le train repart et...haaaaaa tout le monde se met à crier, le train se ré arrete: le petit garçon de la mamn n'avait pas eu le temps de descendre!!! folklo j'vous dis!
on était en 2 ème classe:un peu les uns sur les autres les pieds sur les bagages, les coqs sur les portes bagages, et prévoir d'aller chez l'habitants utiliser les toilettes aux arrets dans les villages car toilettes inutilisables dans le train!!!
il ne faut pas dormir, même les africains vous le dirons; y'a des "bandits" sur le toit qui attendent la nuit pour descendre et voler
quand on s'endormait avec ma copine, les voisins nous secouaient: "y faut pas dormir!!!"
mais c'est une expérience à vivre, c'est riche, c'est incroyable, tu ne vivras pas ça ailleurs!
heu pas la peine de prévoir à manger: des mamas sont là à chaque arrets meme dans la brousse avec des choses à proposer pour se remplir l'estomac; si tu crainds de boire l'eau dans les sachets plastiques, prévois des bouteilles d'eau!

les Maliens sont trés accueillants, trés protecteurs avec les toubabous si tu fais un minimum d'efforts de respect et de compréhension de leurs coutumes
il ne faut pas se leurrer, il y a toujours le rapport à l'argent qui est difficile mais il faut essayer de créer des liens par dessus ça en étant clair

apres reflexion je pense que ce sera de l'impro arrivée sur dakar je vais me mettre dans l'ambiance le temps de prendre mon visa pour le mali (au fait sais tu le prix du visa au senegal pour le mali?) et de voir les horaires de transports entre train et bus pour le mali voir meme un vol mais ce serait dommage..je pars du 17juillet au 23 aout donc jaurais le temps de circuler un peu au mali, (dakar sera juste le point de depart et histoire de se reposer vers la cote qq jours a l'aller et au retour mais je connais deja dakar et son tumulte..), de remonter le fleuve jusqu'a tombouctou en bus et pinasse, de m'arreter a qq adresses de familles et de routards...ce serait avec joie que je visiterais ta famille et meme leur transmettrais quelquechose si tu as besoin, de quel coin sont ils? (reponds moi en privé) jai un ami de ouaga qui est malien et qui a de la famille un peu partout donc je ne devrais pas manquer d'adresses et jespere le retrouver meme sur le mali
je ne connais pas encore le mali c'est pourquoi jy vais car jai de tres bons retours, j'apprendrais vite quelques mots de bambara et je suis habituée aux coutumes de l'ouest donc je devrais bien m'intégrer..

actuellement toulousain, je pourrais peut-être t'aider à transporter le matos jusqu'à ton beau-frère (ça me ferait l'occasion de connaître quelqu'un sur Bamako), mais, je fais comme celeste6969, j'atterris à Dakar et compte prendre le train, alors franchement je crains de passer mon temps à veiller sur mes bagages, mais s'il y a en plus de la photo-video à toi... je ne le sens pas, mais peut-être trouveras-tu du monde qui atterrit à Bamako... ou alors, plus sage, attends l'hiver!

Je viens de découvrir ce forum en prépaparant mon voyage au Sénégal. Je compte y aller en juillet 2008 (oui c'est encore loin😉) pour un stage à la télé sénégalaise. Je surffais pour regarder les prix de vol etc et je suis tombée sur ce forum. Bref après Dakar, je compte rejoindre un ami au mali et ensuite remonter sur le maroc, avant de repartir en france par l'espagne. Un grand periple en perspective... Je voulais savoir si quelqu'un connais un moyen de transport pas trop cher et qui craint pas trop (je voyage seule) pour aller de bamako jusqu'au maroc. Parce que j'ai regarder les billets d'avion et c'est horriblement cher. Sachant que j'ai tout mon temps pour faire bamako/maroc, vu que je viendrais de finir mes études. Bref si quelqu'un à une piste, qu'il/elle me fasse signe.

However, I’m just starting my research for the rest of the journey—namely the Caucasus (no trains as far as I know, so buses and/or ferries), then Central Asia and China.
So, I’d love to hear any info or tips (general and forward-looking at this stage) about the train route through Central Asia and China to reach the east coast.

- How far in advance to book / any potential difficulties with reservations
- Whether there are PASS systems (or equivalent) between countries and/or if some tickets allow stopovers, meaning you can hop on and off as you please

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.
24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin)
05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30)
Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.
For 2 people: 340 € round trip
A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:
1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord.
2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord.
3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus.
4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones.
5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey.
6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee).
7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced.
8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day.
9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages.
10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège.
11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM.
12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus.
13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time.
14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.
I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.
I’m sharing this experience in the hope it might help others.

I just realized there’s only one payment method accepted for booking the Mombasa-Nairobi express train ticket online: M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer service used in Africa. Would it be impossible to book as a European?
I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient).
But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)
That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.
In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.
I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...
Could you give me a recent opinion on this?
