Hi, We’re heading to Tanzania at the end of the year and I’d like to know where I can apply for the e-visas because I’ve found some sites, but they’re charging more than what I was told. It’s not the official site, and I’m struggling to find it. Do you have the direct official link, please? Thanks so much for your help! 😊

Hi,

No matter which country you're visiting, you’ll find info from France Diplomatie in the Travel Advice section of our consular services.

For Tanzania, it’s HERE:

https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/conseils-aux-voyageurs/conseils-par-pays-destination/tanzanie/

Go to the Entry/Requirements tab.

And don’t forget to read ALL the rest carefully.

Cheers.

To keep it short, if you don’t have the patience to read the "Travel tips for Tanzania", in the "Entry/formalities" tab of the previously mentioned site, here’s the link (from the Tanzanian government):

https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/

But first, make sure your passport will still be valid six (6) months, exactly, after your entry date into Tanzania. Otherwise, you won’t get a visa, and an emergency passport renewal will be necessary...

Cheers.

Hi there, Thanks so much for your reply! No problem with the passports—they were done last year, so I just have to follow the link.😊 The one I had matched yours, but I couldn’t access anything at all. I’ll try again today. Do you think it’s too early to apply today for a departure at the end of October? Should I wait? Thanks

Yes, you’ll need to do it at the end of September. One month ahead is enough. In the meantime, check what’s required: a digital ID photo and a scan of the main double-page of your passport, and... some cash!

Have a great trip!

Out of curiosity, which reserves are you heading to?

Perfect, thanks!

So we're going 50 km from Zanzibar, to the Selous salt reserve I think 😊

Selous and Ruaha are my two favorite reserves in Tanzania :) There’s more than 50 km between Zanzibar and Selous, even by plane.

We’ve already been on safari in Selous five times. Here’s the account of our last trip in June 2024 if you’re interested:

The story starts in the Mikumi reserve and continues and ends in Selous. ...

Thanks again—I’ll check out your link if it decides to work, because right now I can’t get the page to load to see your travel journal 😅 I hope I picked the right time to make the most of it, since we’re traveling as a family with kids who have their own lives. No matter what, I think we’re going to be blown away and have our hearts filled. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me 😊

- Anyway, this travel story is 4th or 5th in the Tanzania Forum’s table of contents...

- If you let me know which camp or lodge you’re heading to (in Selous), and if I’ve been there before, I’ll point you to a story with photos from that camp.

- For October, I’ve been twice during that month: the first time was our best memory, but the second time the heat was almost unbearable. I had to stay at camp on the last day of the safari just to rest. The Indian Ocean has been under El Niño for the past 3–4 years, which brings extreme and violent weather patterns—sometimes affecting Tanzania or Kenya. No way to predict what the weather will be like in October... (We’re also heading to Kenya in October.)

Cheers

Hi, I’d recommend getting your visa on arrival at the airport in Tanzania. The cost is $50 (the e-visa is more expensive), and you can pay by credit card. The process is straightforward and won’t take up much of your time.

Hi,

"The cost is $50 (the e-visa is more expensive),"

Same cost for e-visa or at the airport. $50 or 50 €.
