Sombat Tour Bus Company

Hi, I’m really interested in the "SUPREME bus" and especially the "Wiang Ping Super VIP Class Bus" with Sombat Tour for traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. But you can only book through their website, and it’s entirely in Thai. No agency allows booking for these buses from this company either. I haven’t found any way to make a reservation for either of these two buses... Has anyone traveled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on one of these buses? Thanks so much

Hi there, Sombat Tour is a really good company that I’ve used several times for different routes. But you’re making things more complicated than they need to be—there are plenty of other equally good companies that run multiple VIP buses on this route every day and night, so there’s no need to book your seat online. Just show up at Mo Chit, find the Sombat Tour counter* or any other one, buy your ticket, and you’ll be on a VIP bus within the hour. If there’s more than a 30-minute wait before departure, you can grab a bite at one of the two food centers in the bus terminal.

For info, NakhonChai Air (NCA for short), another great company, doesn’t leave from Mo Chit—they have their own terminal a few hundred meters away (tell the taxi "paï s'tani lot mê nakonntchaï êê, krap"—go to Nakhonchai Air bus terminal). Their trips take less time than other companies because, unlike them, they don’t stop mid-route in the Tak area (halfway) for a meal and driver change. Instead, they bring meals and a relief driver right from the start. Their tickets can also be bought at the many 7-Eleven stores, which is super convenient.

* If needed, there’s an information counter in the middle of the ground-floor hall.

Hence the total uselessness of booking your seat online.

Hi, Thanks a lot for the info! But it’ll be Chinese New Year, and all of Thailand will be traveling… [;)] I don’t feel like stressing out at the last minute. Thanks anyway!

Hello,

While it’s true their site doesn’t allow booking in English, you can do it through the Thai version—though you’d need to translate each step, which I get can be tedious.

Alternatively, there are intermediaries (often mentioned on the forum) that can handle this for you, usually for a commission that varies by site.

Searching the company name on a search engine should help you find what you need.

I haven’t personally tried their buses, as I usually take the train or sometimes a flight.

Best regards,

which is why it’s totally useless to book your seat online.

So I’ll just add a little more about NakhonChai Air since it’s rightly considered the best in the country by many Thais, and they also have a website where it seems possible to book—with an English version: https://www.nakhonchaiair.com/ncaweb/home-en

Tedious doesn't bother me when I really want to do something important for myself. I had tried and it was going well at first, but by the second step I couldn't continue because I couldn't copy the departure and arrival points in Thai.

With the company name in a search engine, you should be able to find your "happiness".

I did it, finally with 12Go. I have my ticket with Sombat—the bus I wanted with 20 seats, lounge-style seating that can really stretch out. Only two seats per row, separated by an aisle in the middle. Total comfort, really. With a paid meal during the trip, water and snacks at departure, and tea on arrival. Like a plane, really... The only downside: non-changeable, non-refundable. Thanks for your help.

you can see photos by clicking the icon just to the right of the bus class on the schedule page after you’ve entered your date and cities. In First class, there’s a massage system in the seats. The meal included on board is better than the awful roadside canteens where other companies stop for a meal break. You’ll end up thinking I’m the boss of the company... but no, just to prove it, I’ll add that the best class at Sombat Tour also has the massage system in the seats.

I just went to check it out... Not bad either... But well, it's done... And I'm fine with the Un/Un seats... For the meal, we'll see. It can't be worse than an Air France onboard meal

Hi Jean-Marie, I hope you don’t mind me butting in, but why not consider the train for this long trip? Safer, less tiring…
