J'étudie actuellement en Chine (à Qingdao) et ici, on a la chance d'avoir plus de 2 mois de vacances à Noël! Alors avec une amie, on a l'intention d'en profiter pour voyager tout le mois de Janvier (probablement du 26 décembre à fin janvier/début février).
On pense commencer par aller à Xi'an, puis descendre dans le Sichuan et le Yunnan et surement finir par aller à Hongkong.
Pour l'instant, les principales questions que je me pose, c'est :
* si au mois de janvier, il ne fait pas trop froid dans le Yunnan (je sais qu'il faut s'attendre à ne pas avoir de radiateurs...). Et j'imagine qu'il fera pas très chaud, mais est-ce qu'il risque de pleuvoir/neiger? est-ce qu'on peut quand même espérer avoir un ciel bleu de temps en temps?
* si 2 filles voyagent dans des "petites" villes est-ce imprudent? En sachant, qu'on parle un peu Chinois.
* Pour le circuit, tout n'est pas encore clair, mais dans le Yunnan, nous pensons aller à la forêt de pierres de Shilin, à Jianshui, voir les rizières de Yuanyang, Dali, Shaxi, Shangri La, et surement Kunming pour les transferts. Combien de temps pensez-vous qu'il faut prévoir pour pouvoir visiter toutes ces villes? 10 jours?
* Pour le Sichuan, on a pas encore déterminer les endroits exacts où on veut aller...

En Janvier il fait généralement dans les 10-15° et raisonnablement humide comme chez nous à Hong Kong, donc ne vous attendez pas à avoir chaud, notamment la nuit...
Vous ne devriez pas avoir de soucis à vous déplacer, surtout si vous parlez le mandarin. Attention à la période du nouvel an, il risque d'y avoir beaucoup de monde dans les transports.
Pour les lieux à voir il y a déjà eu plusieurs conversations sur le forum.
Les nuits peuvent être assez fraiches et la journée , je dirai de 8 à 17 degrés . Prévoyez quand même des vêtements assez chauds. Question sécurité pas trop de souci à deux , c'est assez tranquille !
D'accord, nous prévoirons des vêtements en conséquence.
On a pas vraiment l'occasion d'aller dans le Sud de la Chine à un autre moment de l'année, et ça serait dommage de se laisser arrêter par ça. On va prévoir des vêtements chauds! ^^
en voyant les réponses très optimistes des intervenants, (même s'ils vous disent de prendre des vêtements chauds) j'ai relu votre message entièrement pour revoir précisément les lieux que vous citiez.
Je ne vois pas comment les fourchettes (10-15° ou 8-17°C) qui vous ont été données pourraient être tenues en janvier dans tous les lieux que vous décrivez.
Les températures mini (et notamment le matin) que vous aurez à Kunming, Jianshui, Dali seront très souvent inférieures à 8°C.
Mais vous citez également Yuanyang, Shangri La. Pour ces 2 lieux et au Sichuan (si vous allez notamment dans l'ouest, très montagneux et très élevé), les températures rencontrées pourraient être fréquemment négatives et 8°C pourrait alors être la température maxi de la journée (pas mini).
Dans tous les cas, prévoyez donc effectivement des vêtements chauds.

On dit souvent "Fermez la porte, il fait froid dehors !" Mais une fois la porte fermée, il fait toujours aussi froid dehors.
Je n'ai pas regretté d'avoir une doudoune en arrivant à Yuanyang en fin de journée début janvier. Il faisait quelque part entre 5 et 10°C au-dessus de zéro, avec un brouillard dense. Le lendemain, il y avait un grand ciel bleu.
Encore merci à tous pour vos réponses. Il commence déjà à faire froid à Qingdao (-2°C et le vent glacial qui va avec) donc je m'équipe pour le froid! 😉
J'ai regardé d'autres discussions sur les différentes provinces que j'ai l'intention de visiter, et j'ai peaufiner mon trajet. Pouvez-vous me dire si les temps prévus vous semblent corrects?
J1. Qingdao –Luoyang : Mais déjà là, ça se corse, il n’y a que 3 trains pour Luoyang en partance de Qingdao et ils arrivent tous les 3 entre 2h20 et 4h20 du matin !
Est-ce que vous auriez des idées de villes qu’il pourrait être intéressant de faire une escale/visite avant afin d’essayer de trouver un train qui arrive à une heure décente ?
J2. Luoyang : On a l’intention d’aller aux Caves Longmen le matin et temple Shaolin l’après midi.
Est-ce qu’il faut envisager une autre demie-journée pour la ville de Luoyang en elle-même ? Est-ce qu’une demi-journée au temple/caves (chacun) vous semblent trop long ?

J8/9. Emeishan : 1 jour ou 2 jours ? Etant donné que le prix d’entrée est assez cher (185Y) et valable 3Jours, je pensais peut-être rester 2 jours. Est-ce que ça vaut la peine ? Mais en janvier, j’ai lu sur un autre poste qu’il y avait de grandes chances que ce soit enneigé et donc assez glissant…

J21. Journée de rab au cas où on aurait des problèmes pour revenir sur Kunming. Si finalement cette journée n’était pas nécessaire nous irons surement à Shilin, the stone forest.

La majorité des transports sont prévus en train, à part dans le Yunnan, où on prendra le bus, et pour aller à Hong kong.
Et autre grosse question, c’est les valises. Sur certaines journées, on compte prendre des trains de nuit ou repartir directement après les visites… Donc il y a-t-il des consignes dans toutes les gares ? Et par exemple, si on prévoit 2 jours pour faire Tiger Leaping Gorge, il me semble que certaines des auberges sont sur le chemin de la randonnée. Ça peut donc vite devenir « très sportif » si on a encore les bagages.
Mars2012hk surestime en effet grandement la température. J'était dans le Yunnan fin mars-début avril et c'était très inconfortable même pour un Canadien. Le principal problème est que les hôtels n'ont pas de chauffage (sauf les 5 étoiles), seulement des couvertures chauffantes. Totalement inadéquat l'hiver. Aucun guest house sur le TLG n'a de chauffage. Mais les douches sont chaudes.
Je ne sais pas où vous avez lu que Xi'An était festif mais ce n'était certainement pas pour les nouvel an occidental. Rien de spécial sauf quelques soirées ici et là dans les hôtels internationaux.
Vous avez beaucoup de déplacements. J'espère que vous aurez des vacances après. Notes que votre période est juste avant le nouvel an chinois et que les billets de train seront très difficiles à obtenir et même impossible pour la semaine précédent le nouvel an (certaines route se vendent en quelques minutes). Certains billets sont déjà en vente et je vois qu'il reste assez peu de couchettes molles pour Qingdao-Luoyang (voir les horaires et disponibilités sur china-diy-travel.com).
La plupart des gares ont des consignes à bagages mais pas toutes les gares récentes pour les trains à haute vitesse.

I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!!

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November.
I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.
In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.

I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
If you’ve got any great tips like this, why not discuss them in this thread and share addresses or websites where the people in charge have realized climate change is real and are adapting? 😊

Hello, We’re heading to Finnish Lapland near Rovaniemi as a family at the end of February with two kids (8 and 14 years old). We’ve got direct flights with Luxairstours. The itinerary is already set, but I’m wondering if anyone has traveled with Luxair before and knows exactly what kind of clothes they provide on the second day? The agency just told me it’s a heavy-duty cold-weather suit. I’m thinking we should get Sorel Caribou boots, maybe second-hand. Here’s what I’ve already planned:
- Thermolactyl leggings and tights from Damart for the whole family as a base layer.
- A first layer of Damart socks + Nordic Stocks socks in 70% merino wool for all four of us.
- Loose fleece layers, including some Polartec.
- Ski pants for hikes.
- For my son and me, a The North Face Himalayan down parka with a hood.
- A ski parka for my husband and my 14-year-old daughter (she *really* wants a Roxy one—I hope it’ll be warm enough).
- For myself, for the flight and the first day at Santa’s village, I’ve packed The North Face winter hiking pants, a long-sleeve merino wool top from Decathlon (thin), a fleece, and my big parka.
I’m wondering if I should just pack fleece joggers or sweatpants for the kids and my husband, at least for the first and last days, to be comfortable on the plane?
I’m also planning to buy balaclavas and neck warmers in addition to our beanies, as well as mittens for all of us. I really need advice because I have no idea—I’ve never been skiing! Also, for a 4-night, 5-day trip, should I pack a second set of base layers, like from Odlo?
Of course, I’ll be leaving cotton clothes out of the suitcase.
As you can tell, I’m someone who gets cold easily—especially my feet, hands, and ears—so that’s my biggest worry. I *don’t* want to be cold, even at -20°C during dog sledding, snowmobiling, or aurora hunting when we might be standing still. We won’t be in the city, and the kids will likely spend most of their time outside, as they usually do.
