Après avoir réfléchi, pensé, re-pensé, etc. nous avons décidé de se concentrer sur le Thaïlande, durant 24 jours 😎
J'aimerai dès lors avoir votre avis sur mon planning "définitif". J'achèterai les vols internes fin de cette semaine ce qui fixera définitivement le "gros" de notre itinéraire.
5 : Liège -> Bruxelles -> Amsterdam -> Bangkok
6,7,8 : Bangkok
9 : Ayutthaya, départ le matin, visite et bus vers Sukhotai le soir (arrivée à Sukhotai vers minuit, jouable?)
10 : Sukhotai, visite, départ vers Chiang Mai en bus le soir (arrivée à CM vers minuit, jouable?)
11,12,13,14,15: Chiang Mai pour le Songkran!!
16 : Chiang Mai -> Pukhet, en avion
17,18 : Phuket, excursion 2 jours dans les Similan ?
19 : Phuket, excursion Phang Nga Bay ?
20,21 : Koh Phi Phi Don, Koh Phi Phi Ley
22,23 : Koh Lanta
24,25 : Krabi (Railay, Ao Nang). Le 25 SOIR, retour à Bangkok en avion
26,27 : Kanchanaburi (départ de Bangkok le 26 matin), visite des chutes d'Erawan le 27
28 : Kanchaburi + retour à Bangkok
29 : Bangkok -> Amsterdam -> Bruxelles -> Liège (😐)
Ce planning à été mûrement réfléchi, mais malgré ça beaucoup de doutes persistent 🙂
Que pensez-vous de nos "haltes" à Ayutthaya et Sukhotai, en direction de Chiang Mai? Faut-il réserver les transports avant?
J'ai vraiment envie de visiter ces deux endroits, mais j'ai longuement hésité au niveau des transports.. Je voulais les prendre de nuit, mais alors on arrivait par exemple à Chiang Mai vers 3/4h du matin!
Que pensez-vous de passer Songkran à Chiang Mai?
J'imagine que cela doit être génial. Etre proche du peuple et dans l'ambiance, c'est tout ce que j'aime 🙂 Cependant plusieurs questions me tourmentent à ce niveau là : Sera t-il possible de faire des excursions (éléphant, rafting, ...) à Chiang Mai durant le Songkran? Car je comptais profiter de cela dans le Nord.. Ou alors tout est réellement fermé? Niveau logement, même si tout le monde dit qu'en Avril il n'est pas nécessaire de réserver quoi que ce soit, j'ai tout de même un gros doute durant le Songkran... Est-il possible qu'on ne TROUVE PAS de logement sur place? (excepté hôtel à 100$ la nuit...)
Que pensez-vous du programme dans le Sud (Mer d'Andaman)?
Comme vous le voyez, j'ai abandonné le fait de faire les "deux côtés" pour me concentrer sur un seul. J'ai choisi le côté Andaman pour ses différentes excursions paradisiaques et pour ses multiples endroits à visiter (beaucoup plus nombreux que Koh Phangan & Koh Tao). Que pensez-vous de ce choix? Les excursions choisies sont-elles intéressantes? C'est sûrement un peu touristique, mais il y a vraiment des endroits que j'ai envie de voir de mes propres yeux!
Que pensez-vous de l'étape "Kanchanaburi"?
A la base nous avions prévu 2 jours de plus dans les îles, et un retour à Bangkok le même jour que le retour vers l'Europe... C'était un peu "risqué" (en cas de pépins quelconques), nous avons donc décidé de rentrer sur Bangkok 2 jours plus tôt, au cas où. Etant donné que Bangkok ne m'attire qu'à moitié, j'ai cherché quelque chose à faire pendant 2 jours et demi, pas trop loin, et je dois dire que Kanchanaburi (et ses belles chutes d'eau..) me paraissaient être un bon choix.

J'habite en Thailande depuis 3 ans maintenant, ton programme est pas mal, passer Sonkran à Chiang Mai... tu vas être très très arrose, mais c'est sur que ça restera des supers souvenirs !! ;)
C'est pas precise si tu veux rester à Phuket, mais c'est une ville horrible serieusement, surtout Patong, beaucoup de monde et de debauche. Les paysages sont certes beaux, mais je trouve que quand tu peux pas trouver un coin tranquille ou te poser tu apprecies pas, après c'est sur que c'est une question de point de vue.
Tu verras le sud c'est très different du nord, j'ai passe 1 an à Koh Phi Phi (je suis prof de plongee) et c'est très cher, très sale, très bruyant, et extremement populeux, y'a des jours ou tu peux pas marcher dans la rue tellement y'a la foule, c'est plus une île pour les fetards.
Par contre Koh Lanta c'est sympa bcp plus tranquille et nature, bcp de treks et de cascades c'est cool.
Dommage que tu viennes pas faire un tour du côte de Koh Tao, c'est certes de l'autre cote, mais bcp plus authentique que la mer d'Adaman !
Si t'as des questions hesites pas, je suis toujours sur place et je peux certainement te renseigner,
Les trois jours à Bangkok, je les placerai à la fin et pas au départ...

Je ne compte pas rester à Pukhet même, si je reste 3/4 jours là bas c'est parce que c'est le départ de pas mal de belles excursions (Similan, Phang Nga, ...). Koh Phi Phi j'ai surtout envie d'aller une demi journée à Maya Bay :-) Sinon sur Koh Phi Phi Don, tu conseillerais quelle plage (j'y serai surement 1 jour)?
J'ai vraiment longuement hésité entre Andaman ou Golfe de Thailande.. Au début je voulais faire les deux, mais c'était vraiment surchargé comme programme. Mon coeur a balancé du coté Andaman, malheureusement peut être à cause d'atouts un peu touristique (Maya Bay, Phang Nga, ...). Tu aurais essayé de faire les deux cotés, toi?
Pour les 3 jours à Bangkok, je les ai mis au début du séjour car avec le décalage horaire et 12 heures d'avion, je ne pense pas que j'aurai directement envie de reprendre un train ou un bus pour 6h! :p

Je ne suis pas du même avis, il y a encore de très beaux coins et des îles tranquilles en mer d'Andaman, ce qui n'est plus le cas de Tao depuis plusieurs années.
J'aimerais bien connaître ta définition d'authentique concernant des îles qui ne vivent que du tourisme.
En revanche, je suis d'accord avec toi pour Phuket et Koh Phi Phi. Cela vaut la peine de descendre plus au sud ou d'aller plus au nord, à Koh Phayam par exemple.

C'est sûr, c'est pour cela que nous prenons souvent un vol low-cost, pour Chiang-Maï par exemple, en arrivant, ce qui nous permet de nous acclimater dans un endroit plus tranquille que Bangkok, préférant garder cette ville fascinante pour la fin.

Oui, les thaïlandais bougent beaucoup pour Songkran qui est l'occasion de se retrouver en famille.
je garderais aussi les 3 derniers jours pour Bangkok.
A votre arrivée en Thaïlande vous pourriez directement faire, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi quelques jours.
Pour le sud c'est faisable mais trop le course pour moi, je ferais un choix entre Lanta et Krabi, pour bien me poser. Vous aurez déjà pas mal voyagé et aurez sûrement envie de ralentir un peu la cadence.

C'est vraiment personnel. Sinon pour le Sud, la fin du parcours pourra se modifier sur place (par exemple si nous sommes vraiment bien installées à Koh Lanta ;-)).
Bien que l'étape Krabi ne soit pas tellement une "perte de temps" vu que dans tout les cas, nous repartirons en avion de là pour retourner sur Bangkok! :)
Je me suis dis aussi que nous serons fatigué et que ça fera malgré tout beaucoup de mouvement, mais c'est chaque fois 1h30/2h de bateau, je pense que cela ira. Encore une fois, si nous sommes trop fatigué, nous modifierons "en live" :-)

Justement, il est plus facile de s'adapter ailleurs qu'à Bangkok. C'est pourquoi, nous reprenons le plus souvent un avion en arrivant à Bangkok. Après Paris/Bangkok avec une escale, on n'est plus à quelques heures près. En prenant ses billets à l'avance sur Air Asia, ce n'est pas plus cher qu'un bus VIP, parfois moins (exemple : 45€ A/R Chiang Raï l'an passé).

Tout dépend de ce que tu appelles pas chère. A Chiang Maï, il y a une GH tenue par Gilles, un français sympa et de bon conseil (en tous cas, beaucoup sur le forum le disent, je ne le connais pas) : http://www.allin1gh.com/
Les prix sont sur le site. L'avantage est que peux t'expliquer facilement par mail.
Salut, à Chiang mai tu as la Pha Thai guesthouse qui est très bien et le patron parle un français parfait, souvenir de ses études à Lyon. Si tu as besoin de guides pour les endroits que tu vas visiter, n'hésite pas à me demander, j'en connais de très bons.
Nous terminons a l'instant un circuit de 4 semaines en Thaïlande (report complet tout bientôt sur le blog). Par rapport à tes questions :
- Phi Phi vaut vraiment le coup uniquement pour Phi Phi Ley. Nous avons regretté d'être aller a Phi Phi Don, qui est un DisneyLand, une île à touriste, et vraiment très cher. Peut être qu'il est possible de faire une excursion en partant d'ailleurs ?
- Nous avons exploré la baie de Phan Nga depuis l'île de Koh Yao Noi. île avec des villages de pêcheurs. Très calme encore préservé du tourisme de masse. Je recommande !
- La plongée aux Similan est vraiment excellente. Ça vaut le coup de faire 2 jours avec une nuit sur l'île. Nous sommes partis avec Similan Diving Safaris qui ont étés supers.
Si tu pars de Khao Lak, je te conseil de faire un tour à Sri Takua Pa qui est a 40mn de route environ. Une ville ville endormie aux ruelles charmantes. Très peu de touristes viennent ici, les gens sont adorables et souriant. Une bonne dose de "vraie vie" en dehors des circuits plus balisés.
- Concernant Ayuttaya nous avons étés assez déçu en revanche, nous avons trouvés les ruines en très mauvais état et trouvés moins d'intérêt a la ville...

Il y a beaucoup de choses a voir et a faire du coté de Chiang Mai mais je trouve la durée un peu longue en fonction du reste de votre séjour, c'est peu déséquilibré et vous fait courir le reste de votre séjour 😕

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

The ones I had in mind seem to be fully booked (unless it’s too early?). For those familiar with the area, is it easy to find accommodations on the spot in January/February? I’m specifically looking for hotels with a pool, beachfront, air conditioning, and easy scooter rental nearby. Thanks for your tips!

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
