je cherche un endroit pour faire de belles plongées en Thailande début décembre. J'ai déjà fait les Similans, et du côté de Koh Phi-Phi ou Krabi, le prix de l'hébergement est tellement délirant que je cherche un coin un peu moins cher => d'où mon choix à priori pour Koh Tao.
J'ai entendu plusieurs avis contradictoires sur la qualité des plongées là-bas, allant de "rien d'extraordinaire" à "plongées fantastiques". Donc votre avis argumenté m'intéresse beaucoup (visibilité en général, état du corail, difficulté des plongés, et surtout ce qu'on peut voir en "bebettes" petites ou grosses).
Sinon, avez-vous une plage (je cherche le calme, plutôt que les endroits où il faut prendre des boules quies pour dormir) à recommander, une GH?
En alternative, si vous connaissez un coin sympa et pas trop cher du côté de Krabi ou Ao Nang, je suis preneur (mais en parcourant vite les guides, tout me paraît excessivement cher....).
Alors voila pour ma part, ce que je penses de Koh tao et de la plongee.
D'abord, pas de plongee mais du snorkling...
Donc premier endroit decouvert : Tanote Bay (a l'Est de l'ile) avec bcp bcp de coraux durs a voirs et tous les poissons qui vont avec, des couleurs magnifiques et plutot bcp de choses a voir pour une 'petite plage'.
En ce moment il fait moyen beau mais l'eau est translucide et parfois vraiment bleu qd y a du fond, donc on voit tres bien!
Ensuite, j'ai fait un tour snorkling en bateau, ou j'ai trouve que les autres sites etaient moins fourni que Tanote bay (shark bay, tu peux voir des requins de recifs, aw leuk beach, mango bay et enfin vers la petite ile au nord, c'etait sympa)
Effectivement c tres mitige les appreciations sur le forum, mais pas de grosses bebettes genres murenes ou quoi. J'ai entendu parler de tortues, mais de moins en moins frequent apparement.
Voila, moi je ne suis qu'un 'snorkleuse' donc je sais pas si ca te seras utile...
sinon, je vais a koh phiphi et koh lanta ds qqs jours, donc si tu veux je pourrais te dire ce que j en pense par rapport a koh tao!!

Nous sommes allés à Koh Tao en août dernier, je ne sais pas si le temps est toujours aussi beau en décembre mais si oui, je te conseille la baie de Tanote, au Black Tip Dive Resort. C'est le paradis, de l'autre côté de l'île, complètement isolé ou presque. Moi je n'ai plongé qu'une fois et de la plage mais c'était vraiment bien. Mon mari a plongé beaucoup plus et il s'est vraiment régalé. Même le snorkling est super, nos deux enfants de 4 et 8 ans s'en sont donné à coeur joie. L'équipe de plongeurs était très sympa, majoritairement des Anglais je crois. On est allé ensuite sur Koh Phanang et malgré les belles plages et les beaux bungalows, ça n'arrive pas à la cheville de Koh Tao pour la plongée.

p.s. pour 2 bungalows, on payait environ 40 euros avec clim (donc les plus chers) mais tu peux trouver moins cher aux alentours. Et si tu fais une quantité X de plongée ou si tu suis un cours, tu as 50% de rabais sur la chambre...

p.s.3. tranquilité assurée, y'a pas de full moon par là !!!
Apparemment, le Black Tip Dive Resort a l'air d'une bonne addresse, mais je voudrais te poser qq questions supplémentaires:le prix des plongées?Pour bénéficier de 50% de remise sur les plongées, quel est le nb minimum de plongées à faire?Y a-t-il une belle plage (ma femme ne plongeant pas, elle va faire de la bronzette)le coin est-il complètement isolé, ou y a-t-il des resto/bars à proximité40€ prix par bengalow ou pour 2 bengalows?Possibilité de réserver (site web, mail, tel)?Merci d'avance pour tes réponses.
Je suis allé en thaïlande durant le mois d'août pour une durée de 1 mois, dont 15jours à ko tao afin de passer mes niveaux de plongée jusqu'au niveau 3 (40m).
Pour résumé aux alentours de Ko tao les plongée vont de 8m à 22m maximum, soit avec des récifs coraliens, soit des récifs entourés de sable avec tout un tas de d'espèces tropicales, mais pas de grands spécimens si ce n'est quelques Baracudas (1m50) et quelques raies à point bleu, et de petits requins à shark bay.
Si tu veux des spots qui sont plus spéctaculaires, coté espèces et fonds marins, il faudra que tu réserve des trip à la journée en bateau. Car les meilleurs spots sont assez loin en bateau et tout dépend des conditions météo, au maximum tu pourras aller à 45m,
Voici le nom de ces spots Chumpon pinnacle, south west pinnacle, sail rock.
Sinon en snorkling Tanote bay est vraiment très jolie, ainsi que Hao hin.
Tu as des possibilités de logement vraiment pas cher sur le port avec une chambre pour 3€ la nuit, ainsi que des bungalow au bord de la plage à Tanote Bay, pour 3€ également mais que accessible en pick up, moto, et scooter si tu en loues un prend avec des pneus Cross car la route est en très mauvaise état, mais cela vaut vraiment la pène car le cadre est magnifique, un conseil pour le logement à Tanote Bay le Poseidon resort (pas cher, tres bonne ambiance, bonne cuisine).

tu trouveras tout ce que tu cherches. Pour la plage, elle est super (je ne suis pas spécialiste mais tout de même) et au Black Tip, il y a un même une piscine (cours de plongée oblige). Cependant, beaucoup de coraux peu profonds alors pour la baignade, faut faire gaffe aux genoux ! Il y a un petit bar sur la plage (mais c'est tranquille). Côté bouffe, nous n'avons pas fait un voyage culinaire... mais là n'était pas notre but ! Il y a un resto qui faisait des grillades sur la plage, c'était chouette et plutôt rustique ! Pour les bungalow, c'était 1400 bht + 700 bht (parce que mon mari a complété son cours donc 50% sur sa chambre). Je crois que c'est seulement avec les cours que l'on peut avoir une réduction de ce genre. Donc ça nous revenait à 40 euros pour 2 bungalows (avec nos 2 enfants).

Pour Krabi et Ao Nang = plongee egalement impossible, comme Ko Lanta en raison d une eau trop boueuse donc pas ou peu de club de plongee qui te rameneront alors sur Phi Phi qui semble donc la seule voie possible. Je n ai plus en tete les prix, essaie de sonder quelques clubs de l Ile pour verifier.

Compte quand meme environ 65 USD pour 2 plongees dans la journee et 40 pour une seule ; prix constates par ton serviteur y a environ 10 jours 😇

Comme recommande par El Pedro je suis alle voir Jean Jacques de Island Resort il y a 2 jours ; ambiance extra faut dire que j avais avec moi un St Estephe 1996 et du saucisson 😉; bref grosse fete apres les 2 plongees. Encore une fois Tao est faite pour les plongeurs debutants. Les plus experimentes se tourneront sur les Similans pour la qualite exceptionnelle de la faune.

Excuses moi de corriger ce que tu as dit mais depuis Koh Lanta de nombreuses plongées sont possibles, il y a de nombreux spots aux alentours dont Koh Haa et les îles au large de Trang, Google aurait put te le dire 😛 Les écoles de plongées y vont depuis Phi Phi OU Lanta 😉 Voir ICI ou LA par exemple 🙂
Mais Boum je sais tout ca... Plonger A Lanta est quasiment impossible, mais depuis l ile pour rejoindre d autres spots = OUI

Eh oui, pas grand chose autour de Koh Lanta. On peut aller plonger sur des sites assez loin, il y a 2 ans j'ai fait 4h de bateau pour aller sur un superbe site, parait-il un des plus beaux de la Thailande. C'était effectivement très chouette !!!!
Mon avis sur Koh tao: y aller l'été si vous n'avez vraiment rien d'autre a faire!
l'ambiance de l'ile est plus cool (beaucoup de jeune qui pense avoir trouver le moyen de voyager gratuitement en devenant divemaster).
L'ile en elle meme est tres petite, beaucoup de bar, pas grand chose a faire a part nager et plonger.
Les fonds: dévastés! la conséquence d'une sur-exploitation d'usine a certification PADI.
Certain club (black tip par exemple) affiche l'evolution du corail autour de l'ile, c'est affolant.
On peut voir quelques truc en faisant du snorkeling c'est vrai.
Par contre question plongée, il y a toujours plusieurs bateaux avec plus de 20 plongeurs chacun sur chaque site, quand on voir un poisson ange on est content, je me souviens d'un site au nord de l'ile ou les guides étaient content de nous montrer le seul poisson clown du site (sont nid etait marqué par un grand cercle pour que les apprentis divemaster puissent le trouver facilement). J'ai jamais vu de requin, d'hippocampe, de poisson lion ou quoi que ce soit d'intéressant la bas. Par contre on recontre souvent des gros poissons gachettes agressif car ils en ont marres de voir leur nid saccagé par des apprentis plongeurs.
Il est vrai qu'il y a un site au nord de l'ile et un au sud qui sont pas mal, mais bon rien de bien extraordinaire.
Surtout si t'as deja vu les similans tu es certain d'etre decus.

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...

We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?
Dive centers you’d recommend?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

I want to visit Malé first, then head to 2 or 3 nearby islands. I’d like to take the ferry to keep costs down.
I’d love to be able to snorkel right from the beach.
Which atolls or islands would you recommend?

Hi there, my husband loves fishing, and during our upcoming vacation in French Polynesia, he’s planning to do two half-day trips. We’ll be staying in family-run guesthouses on the following islands: Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, and Fakarava. We’re heading to South Africa for a two-week vacation next March.
We’d love to see great white sharks and maybe even try the cage diving. We’re planning to go to Gansbaai—do you think we’ll have a chance to see them? Also, do you know of any specialized agencies that aren’t too commercial and are respectful of the animals?

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Je pose ma question malgré la situation incertaine actuellement, mais évidemment mon plan de voyage est conditionnel à l'évolution de la pandémie, donc merci de vous abstenir ceux qui me diraient juste de rester chez moi ;)
Donc, je planifie de passer l'hiver au sud de l'Europe, et ou vers les Balkans et j'aimerais savoir si c'est partout de la plongée en eau froide donc avec le drysuit et tout ou s'il y a des endroits qui sont superbes et ou je peux plonger avec un suit plus épais seulement même exemple en février et mars. J'ai lu pas mal ici sur le portugal et malte https://divezone.net/diving/portugal mais j'aimerais l'opinion récente de plongeurs du coin! :)
Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
