Taking a Nitrox (air mix) diving course?

Hi,

I’m interested in a Nitrox course and was wondering if it’s worth it: is it widely available in dive clubs around the world? Is it more expensive?

Thanks for your input!

Hey, yeah it’s totally worth it—you’re way less tired after your dives. For availability, it varies from one dive shop to another, so check before you book or before you leave... lots of shops in Southeast Asia have it, others don’t. Some (especially in the Philippines) offer it for free, but most charge extra for nitrox dives. Up to you to check where you’re headed!

Thanks! It's clear I'll do it eventually. But maybe not right away since I just realized you actually need to be self-sufficient to really enjoy it? Because in a group dive, everyone has to surface at the same time...

Are you self-sufficient?

I see you're going to Indonesia this summer—me too! Must be amazing for diving...

See you!

Hey! Actually, you need a dive computer to dive with nitrox, which most dive centers can rent you on the spot if you don’t have one. We each have our own Suunto dive computers: D9 and Mosquito. Highly recommend them! If you dive regularly, buying a dive computer is a must. More freedom, safer, more reassuring, etc.

We’re also advanced divers + Nitrox certified, with 2 dive computers + we each have around 130 dives under our belts... so it helps when you arrive at a dive center—they trust you more.

Yep, I already spent 2 months in Indonesia in 2006 and we’re going back for another 2 months this summer (we’re also getting married there 😉 hehehe), to visit, explore, discover even more, and most of all DIVE!!!!!! It’s underwater paradise. Best spots in the world! hehehe I dream about it at night.........😎

See ya!

Yeah, it’s worth it... Everywhere in the world in recreational diving, nitrox has become the norm. It’s only in France that it causes a certain number of issues 😇😇 due to specific regulations and a few lobbies 😇😇.

To give you a first idea, here’s what I use for courses: http://www.jctdive.be/page-version2004/chargement/nitrox-blending.pdf

To learn more (nitrox used in decompression): http://www.jctdive.be/page-version2004/chargement/nitrox-er-code.pdf

For a bit of a challenge, nitrox in SCR rebreathers: http://www.jctdive.be/page-version2004/chargement/page1.html

And then to make life easier after some heavy learning... automatic calculations 🤪 http://www.jctdive.be/page-version2004/nitrox/page1.html

PS: I don’t provide Valium or aspirin 😮😮

But don’t worry—if you use Nx32 and don’t go deeper than 35m, you won’t have too many calculation issues

Hey,

If you want to take an online Nitrox theory course, I recommend Nonoche’s theoretical lessons: https://nonoche.fr/theorie-nitrox-de-base/

I got my Level 2 certification on the first try! !
