Le Windsor suite sur Sukhumvit Soi 20 pour environ 50 euros la chambre, propose une belle piscine et la chambre comprend un salon avec canapé convertible en lit pour 2 une belle salle de bains et une belle chambre.

j'ai réservé fin juin au rambuttri inn, piscine, air co pour 3 personnes 700 bath la nuit, c'est près de kao sand road. plusieurs membres de vf y sont passés, ça a l'air sympa avec des enfants.

Bon je vais pouvoir replacer mon hôtel préféré à Bangkok: le Reno Hotel à Siam Square (près du skytrain), 950 bth la chambre double, , avec le petit déjeuner, vraiment bien.
Le Woraburi inn sur Sukhumvit soi 4, est sans prétention, il y a une petite piscine sympa et le premier prix pour une chambre double est à 1380 baths, soit aux environs de 28, 29 euros. En prime, une navette gratuite pour rejoindre la station nana du skytrain.

Je reviens juste de la Thaïlande pour la dix huitième fois et je suis un mordu de l'Asie, en arrivant à Bangkok je voulais loger comme d'habitude à l'hôtel the Somerset car là ils ont une belle piscine couverte mais ils étaient en travaux de rénovation ( le Somerset se trouve à 200 mètres du Manhattan hôtel ) et de ce fait je suis aller au Park hôtel toujours dans le Sukhmivit mais soi 7 là ils ont une très belle piscine et les chambres très propre voici leur site
www.parkhotelbkk.com, perso j'aime loger dans le quartier de Sukhmivit pour la bonne raison il y a le métro et le skytrain à proximité donc on peut se déplacer très vite et peu coûteux dans Bangkok et le reste en taxi méters qui sont vraiment pas cher ne pas oublier de vérifier qu'ils mettent bien le compteur en route 35 bahts de prise en charge .

Oui c'est ce que je viens de voir car j'avais ramener leur carte de visite, mais tu sais Alan le Somerset je préfère à tout point de vue personnel super sympa et plus calme aussi, mais ils étaient en rénovation qui d'ailleurs avait vraiment besoin d'un coup de fraîcheur je leurs avait fait la remarque gentiment en novembre dernier .

Bonjour barbot, en pleine problématique GH ou hôtel pour 4 jours à BKK, j'ai négocié avec ma fille un peu de confort au moins à BKK et la "très belle piscine" du Park Hotel m'intéresse, bien que je viens de réserver Rambuttri Inn pour être près des temples et des khlongs (tu le connais ?).
On sera à BKK le 9 août, sais tu si le Somerset aura réouvert ?

Lorsque je suis arrivé à Bangkok il y a 3 semaines j'ai dormi au Manhattan étant donner que le Somerset était en travaux, par contre au Manhattan pas de piscine mais le personnel et chambre très bien . Le membre Pimilan dit que le Somerset sera ouvert en août seulement et l'hôtel changera de nom ce sera the Dream hôtel belle piscine couverte là .
Et à mon retour de Phuket je suis aller au Park hôtel très bien chambre propre pour 2 personnes avec le petit déj 1650 baths et une très grande piscine .
Pour aller à la gare routière pas prendre le skytrain mais le métro très facile demander la station de Sukhumvit c'est pas loin du grand magasin Robinson et c'est au terminus de la ligne du métro arrêt à la station de Hua-Lamphong et la gare centrale se trouve juste en face, de Sukhumvit 5 minutes à pieds pour aller au métro ( du Park hôtel ) et 7 ou 8 minutes en métro pas plus tu as seulement 6 station pour arriver à la gare centrale, d'ailleurs voici une photo de la gare pour te donner une idée et une photo du métro tout neuf et très propre et très facile d'utilisation .

C'est intéressant, pourtant pour le Manhattan sur le site et si je ne me trompe pas ils donnent une piscine sur le toit !
C'est aussi pour ça que je l'avais sélectionné : le petit prix (env 20 euros avec le petit déj) et la piscine histoire de "barboter" (!) 🤪 un peu.
Park Hotel est un peu plus cher mais j'ai bien envie d'1 nuit au retour de Chiang Maï et avant le grand retour.

D'abord, tu dis qu'au Manhattan il n'y a pas de piscine et ensuite tu dis qu'il y en a une sur le toit.
Je confirme ce que Pimilan a écrit, vu que j'ai logé au Manhattan l'été dernier, il y a une chouette petite piscine dans un petit jardin, au rez (en fait, il faut aller au bout du couloir du 1er étage et ensuite descendre un escalier en colimaçon à l'extérieur du bâtiment). En général, en juillet, tu as la piscine pour toi tout seul !
Perso, moi j'aime bien le Manhattan : le prix est correct, les chambres sont propres, le buffet petit-dej. super, c'est pas loin du Skytrain et quasiment au coeur du marché !

Il est vrai que j'ai pas vu la piscine quand je suis aller au Manhattan d'ailleurs je n'ai même pas demander, mais comme tu dis le personnel vraiment très sympa, d'ailleurs voici une anecdote vécu "" j'arrive lundi à 8 heures du matin et j'avais réserver ma chambre pour qu'elle soit libre à cette heure je me présente et là à la réception ils étaient embarrasser car la chambre pas libre en disant que vers 10 heures c'est bon, ok je leur dit je vais faire un tour .
Je reviens vers 11 heures en me disant que c'était bon car après un long voyage en avion je demandais qu'une chose c'était de me doucher, arrivée à la réception je vois le gars encore plus embarrasser avant qu'il me parle j'avais compris que c'était pas libre, il me dit monsieur attender encore un petit peu c'est presque arranger ok je lui dit pas de soucis je retourne faire un tour et en profite pour aller manger dans un resto thai et me ballade jusqu'à 13 heures 30 .
De retour au Manhattan je vois le gars encore plus embarrasser en me promettant que pour 14 heures c'est bon, le gars tellement gentil et embarrasser je n'avais pas le droit d'enfoncer le clou je lui dit pas de soucis je suis en vacances, vers 14 heures 10 il m'appelle avec un grand sourire Ok votre chambre est prête il vient avec moi plus un gars pour porter les valises et on monte au Quatrième étage arriver dans la chambre d'ailleurs la porte était grande ouverte un plombier était en affaire pour réparer un tuyau une grosse fuite d'eau dans la salle de bain, Là je vois mon gars de la réception piquer une colère panique à bord de l'hôtel il téléphone dans tout les sens au bout de 10 minutes toujours à la réception il me regarde avec un grand sourire voilà monsieur maintenant c'est bon on va vous mettre dans une plus grande chambre les clients viennent de partir .
Il prend la clef de la chambre et direction cinquième étage on récupère mes bagages laisser au quatrième et arriver à la chambre il ouvre la porte moi sur le côté en voyant son visage j'aurais voulu avoir une caméra à mourir de rire rien qu'à voir sa tête ça valait un milliard la chambre était libre mais pas encore nettoyer il me regarde vraiment désespérer sorry sir pas de problème je lui dit en souriant ne vous en faîtes je suis toujours en vacances je voyais qu'il n'en pouvait plus le type .
Retour dans l'ascenseur il est près de 14 heures 20 et pour détendre l'atmosphère je lui dit mais dîtes moi est ce que vous croyais qu'on aura une chance d'avoir la chambre de libre pour demain ou après demain en souriant, il attrape un fou rire qui communique et on sort de l'ascenseur on rigolant tout les deux .
Une petite heure après tout était dans l'ordre, et je ne pouvais pas me fâcher car je voyais bien qu'il était vraiment embarrasser de cette situation .

Il est bien cet hôtel et je suis certaine que s'il avait pu, le réceptionniste aurait tout fait pour que tu aies ta chambre au plus vite.
Et vu qu'ils n'ont pas su t'en donner une autre à ton arrivée, cela prouve que l'hôtel était complet (et cela confirme donc l'avis de plusieurs membres VF qui disent que c'est un bon choix d'hôtel) !

Oui c'est pour cela que j'ai voulu retourner en fin de séjour au Manhattan mais c'était complet, c'est comme ça que l'ai atteri au Park hôtel les chambres très bien aussi mais le personnel pas trop sympa car ma chambre était direct libre quand je suis arriver 😉 là par contre j'ai vu la piscine une très grande dans la cour avec des transats d'ailleurs je me suis baigner et j'étais seul dans la piscine .

Le Park hotel est certainement le mieux situé (30 mètre du métro aérien, la piscine est d'une très bonne dimension pour Bangkok, seulement elle est mal située car au rez de chaussée et à l'ombre des bâtiments en plus le petit déj est franchement dégeu (prix environ 1400 bath)
Le Woraburi bien que plus éloigné du métro aérien à une agréable petite piscine ensoleillée au dernier étage de l'hotel, pris à partir de 850 bath petit déj compris pour 2 sur asiaroom😎
Vraiment merci, je regarde ça vite pour le Woraburi car nous n'avons toujours rien décidé pour hotel ou guest, mais la piscine dont tu parles pourrait bien faire pencher la balance et vu le prix ! Je vais sortir du boulot pour m'engouffrer dans l'avion, alors barboter un peu à l'arrivée m'enchante même si ça veut dire qu'il faut absolument que j'achète un nouveau maillot de bain.
Tous ceux qui sont passés par cet hotel mythique vous le diront : 500 baths pour un hotel avec Room service, piscine sur le toit avec vue sur tout bangkok... le tout dans un quartier un peu excentré (pas très loin de la gare de l'est de Bangkok), mais très vivant !!! A 20 minutes du centre en taxi ou en klongs (canaux sur lesquels il y'a des taxis boats)
Assurément, pour moi le Woraburi hotel soi 4 est ce que je connais de mieux pour ceux pour qui la piscine est une partie importante dans le choix de l'hotel, surtout si c'est pour faire plaisir aux enfants et dans cette catégorie de prix, je ne connais rien de mieux à bangkok(le staff du bar de la piscine est très cool). Il y a deux ans j'ai essayé l'Amari Atrium hotel, très belle piscine et super petit dej mais à 2400 bath la nuit et moins bien placé. Pour les budgets très serrés, je conseille le Crown hotel Soi 39, une jolie piscine dans la cour, des chambre un peu beaucoup viellotte mais propre pour 450 bath la nuit sans petit dej.
Comptant nous rendre en Thailande (pour la 3 ieme fois en 10 ans) en janvier prochain, nous désirons passer 5 jours a Bangkok. Nous recherchons donc un hotel…

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. It’ll be our first time in Asia, and we’re thinking of hitting the classic spots in East Java and Bali, then wrapping up with a cruise around Komodo for some snorkeling/diving. Here’s a rough draft of our itinerary—I’m wondering if it’s doable.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
The idea is to know what to expect so we can prepare as best as possible. Thanks for your replies! !
Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
