Je prévois aller à Ko Tao et Ko Phangan vers la fin décembre (25 déc-3 jan).
Pouvez-vous m'en dire plus sur la température, les précipitations et les conditions pour l'apné. Je sais que c'est plus beau du côté de Kkrabi et Phuket mais est-ce que c'est un coup de dés du côté de Ko tao pour cette période?
C'est mon premier voyage en Thailande et je veux vraiment mettre toute les chances de mon côté.
C'est plus sur qu'un coup de des que tu vas trouver la pluie et les mauvaise conditions pour l'apne a Ko Tao en Decembre! C'est la plein saison des pluies....idem pour Ko Phangan.
Ceci dit, contrairement as ce que tu dit, Ko Tao et Ko Phangan sont assez jolis. Il y aura beaucoup de monde par contre... Noel/Nouvel An est "peak season" en Thailand et Tao et phangan sont des "party islands" queque soit le meteo.
Meme les iles les moins connues affichent complete a cette epoque de l'annee, donc c'est mieux de reserver ton guest house/hotel a l'avance de toute facon.
Ceci dit, je te conseille d'aller sur le cote Andaman car au moins tu auras du soleil!
Je ne sais pas où tu as eu cette information qu'aux mois de décembre c'est la saison des pluie en Thailande.... et sur Koh Tao et Koh Panghan.
Sa voudrais dire qu'il ferais super beau, grand ciel bleu mer calme à Phuket et Krabi et qu'il pleuverais sur Koh Samui. MDR🤪
Si c'est la haute saison c'est parce que c'est la meilleur saison et ce n'est donc pas la saison des pluies.
La saisons des pluis se passe de mai à octobre au cas où tu ne le saurais pas.
Pour ma part je suis aller en janvier et j'ai eu un temps magnifique avec mer calme. 😉
Koh Tao c'est le top en cette période. Tous ceux qui disent le contraire ne connaissent pas bien cette île. J'y vais chaque année à cette période et j'y reste 2-3 mois. L'eau à 32 et le soleil au rendez vous. Cagnard cagnard. Et quand l'orage est là, cela ne dure jamais très longtemps. A savoir qu'après de fortes pluies, l'eau n'est plus aussi belle. Il faut 1 ou 2 jours pour que tout rentre dans l'ordre.
Tao est également différente dans son esprit. Il n' y a aucun grand hôtel, et pas de tourisme de masse. Son "manque de confort" est un atout .
Tu me fais rire avec ta carte .... tu compare la region de Krabi qui touche la region de Nakhon Si Tammarath. d'un coté tu as 48.4 en precipitation et de l'autre tu as 415.8. comme si les nuage ou le ciel bleu avait décidé de s'arréter sur ces deux région limitrophe alors qu'il n'y a environ que 150-200 km. Mdr

Vas y a Ko Tao si vous voulez....ca ne me gene pas du tout personellement! S'il pleut je vous aurez prevenus, c'est tout. Moi je serais a Ko Phayam (pres de Ranong) si je suis en Thailande a cette epoque par contre. Le snorkelling n'est pas top mais ce n'est pas loin des iles Surins ou le snorkelling est 10 foix mieux qu'a Ko Tao.
C'est bizarre parce que Koh Chang est dans le golf et chaque année en juillet août, il pleut je le sais parce que j'y vais....
mais bon j'ai peut être pas eu de chance.

Il se peut que tu auras de la pluie meme a Hua Hin en Octobre... Il y a 3 ans je travaillais a BKK et j'ai loue une maison de WE a Cha Am (qui est a 20 minutes de Hua Hin). La maison ete inondee pendant une semaine et les gens se deplacaient en bateaux dans les rues! La meme annee il a eu des graves innodations at Ko Tao fin novembre. Cette annee il a eu plus de pluie que d'habitude pendant le mousson d'ete...pires indondations depuis cent ans en Laos et 70 morts en Thailande en Aout. Ca se peut que le mousson d'hiver (qui affecte Samui, Tao et Phangan mais pas la cote ouest ni Ko Chang) serai pire que d'habitude aussi, qui sais.
Petite Ko Chang, pas loin de Ko Phayam, est accessible a partir de la ville de Ranong. Grande Ko Chang, (la plus connue) est pres de la frontiere Cambodge, accessible de la ville de Trat. Nathalie a parle de cette derniere. Decembre/janvier il fait beau sur les deux. Le premiere est beacoup plus sauvage, les petits GH tres simples, pas d'electricite 24/7 etc.

bon, j'ai quand même trouvé un coin sympa, l'avant dernière plage sur la côte ouest, puis tout en bas de l'autre côté, un truc complètement en pleine nature, super, mais il n'y en a plus pour longtemps à mon avis....

À part ça étant donné que tu as loué une maison à Cha am... peux tu me dire la différence entre Cha Am et Hua Hin et si tu pouvais acheter un apart... que choisirais-tu.

J'ai paye 4000B/ mois (moins de 100 euros) pour une maison 3 pieces (2 chambres et une grand salon) tout equipee, avec un petit jardin tropicale. Eau/electricite telephone c'etait 200B de plus par mois.
J'ai choisi Cha Am car c'est moins cher que Hua Hin et un peu plus proche de BKK. Mon interet principale c'etait de pouvoir fuir la pollution et bruit de BKK rapidement pendant mes journees libres (c'est a 2H30 de BKK en minibus de Victory monument)
Hua Hin c'est plus une ville touristique plutot pour les etrangers...Ch Am c'est la ou les Thais vont, bien qu'il y a une petite communite d'expatries... les retraites pour la plupart. La plage n'est pas terrible mais il y a un parc nationale pas loin ...bien pour les balades si tu a un moto. Nightlife tres calme (voire mort) a Cha Am....plus d'entertainment bars, discos etc a Hua Hin.
Je ne suis pas allee a la plage de Hua Hin mais comme c'est pas tres loin ca m'etonnerai si s'est bien mieux. Je n'achetrais ni a Hua Hin ni a Cha Am....surtout si tu ne connais pas cet endroit tres bien comme semble etre le cas vu a question.
D'abord renseigne toi bien sur les lois Thailandais. Il n'y a que les Thais qui peuvent vraiment acheter iun bien immobilier. Les etrangers peuvent acheter un part dans un condo je pense avec un lease de X annees. Ca ne t'appartient pas vraiement. Secondo, la situation politique n'est pas tres stable en ce moment...tout peut changer. Tertio...vu les prix des loyers tu serai folle d'acheter pour la louer. Il y avait plein de maisons a vendre a Cha Am... des etrangers (avec femmes Thais) qui essayaient de recuperer leur argent... ces maisons sont restees sans acheteurs pendant des annees.
oui on peut posséder un apart dans un condo. Le leasing de 3 X 30 ans est une autre option que je n'ai pas choisi. Mon projet est vraiment d'acheter pour louer .... Il y a des bruits qui courent comme quoi il y aurait un projet dnas le coin pour construire un Universal studio.... et que cela amènerait des touristes. Beaucoup de personnes et d'articles de journaux voie Hua Hin comme la prochaine station balnéaire à devenir très touristiques.
Entre l'an passé et cette année les prix des condos ont augmenté de 15%... en partie à cause de l'essence mais aussi parce que ça devient un endroit où les touristes vont. Bref je me ferai une idée sur place. J'ai encore un projet un peu plus au sud de Hua Hin Kho Tabiek. Il parait que la plage est très belle.
J'ai une amie thaie qui vient de Hua Hin et m'a dit que si on cherche de magnifiques plages, c'est sur les ìles. Il ne faut jamais comparer une plage du golf avec celles des îles. Si on a envie de partir à la plage.... il y a un bus (4h) et un bateau pour Koh Tao... Etant donné que j'y passe 6 semaines par an, ça ne me dérange pas de partir qq jours.

désolée de te contredire, mais tout le monde qui connait bien la Thailande sait que les météos sont différentes à Phukket et Koh Samui ou koh Tao, la saison des pluies sur koh samui etc démarre de novembre à février mars, alors que pour la même période sur phukket il fait beau, car la saison des pluies est d'octobre à mai. Voilà je pense que d'autres te dirons la même chose, et de ce fait les plongées sur k tao sont nulles car l'eau est trouble
We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.
Are there any good options in July-August for great experiences in the area?

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...
I’m planning to get back into the bubbles somewhere this year.

For my trip to Thailand with two teens aged 13 and 16, do you have any info or tips to share? I’d like to go jet skiing, either in Phuket or Koh Samui, but I’d need at least two jet skis since there are three of us. Can my 16-year-old ride alone? Is it better to rent on-site or book an all-inclusive excursion online or in person?
Our Bali-Lombok trip is taking shape, but we’d love to wrap up the stay with at least a solid week of snorkeling somewhere the coral is still in great condition. In your opinion, are the Gili Secrets in southern Lombok better than Flores Island, where there are supposedly amazing underwater landscapes?
We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?
Dive centers you’d recommend?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

Any thoughts on the diving there?
So far, I haven’t had much luck with diving—at the Perhentians, it was pretty disastrous with water at 31°C 😵😫
I’d love to find a nice island where I can meet people (locals and travelers) because going from a group of six to solo at the end is going to feel weird.

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
