En fait le vaccin permet un délai plus long jusqu'à ce que la maladie se déclare (5 ou 6 jours je crois) et donc donne plus de temps pour recourir au traitement.
Qd je suis partie en Inde, je me suis faite vaccinée, me disant qu'une morsure sans possibilité de traitement rapide, dans le cas où je me trouvais dans un lieu isolé, pouvait être dangereuse.
Avec du recul, je me dis que ce n'est peut-être pas nécessaire, n'étant jamais allée vraiment longtemps dans un coin totalement perdu. Par contre, il faut vraiment être conscient qu'à partir du moment où la rage se déclare, tout soin est impossible et la mort est certaine. De nombreuses personnes en meurent chaque année, touristes y compris....
Donc en cas de morsure, il est vraiment important à mon avis de contacter immédiatement un médecin et d'en parler avec lui.
si on est à moins de 10 jours de la civilisation (avec centre medical possedant un vaccin) pas la peine de se faire vacciner
lors d'un voyage de 6 mois en himalaya nous nous sommes fait vacciner car nous etions dans des coins tres recules sans route largement à plus de 10 jours à pied d'un centre equipe (bien souvent que les grandes villes)
Non Marie31, si vous n'êtes pas vacciné préventivement vous n'avez pas 10 jours !
En cas de morsure ou de contact sur une micro-plaie cutanée avec un animal infecté vous avez 5 jours MAXIMUM pour vous faire injecter le vaccin qui bloquera l'évolution de la maladie. Au delà des 5 jours votre pourcentage de survie est à 90% réduit (j'insiste : si l'animal est infecté cela va de soi !).
Pour être précis : si vous attendez les symptômes pour vous faire vacciner (sans l'être préventivement) vous avez de grandes "chances" d'y passer, ce sera trop tard car la maladie est foudroyante avec un cycle d'évolution très rapide dès l'apparition des premiers symptômes.
En revanche, si vous êtes vacciné préventivement vous pouvez encore vous en sortir après les premiers symptômes, vous gagnez entre 3 à 5 jours uniquement (quand bien même c'est six ou sept je ne sais pas si ça vaut le coup de tenter sa "chance"....
Ce vaccin préventif vous permet donc et seulement de gagner du temps : de 3 à 5 jours.
Je peux, si vous le souhaitez, vous expliquer comment il fonctionne sur la base de la mémoire des cellules de défense immunitaire., Je me suis très documenté sur le sujet car c'est justement un sujet de grande discution dans notre famille de voyageurs à la Robinson Crusoë.
Pour le reste des vaccins il n'y a pas de débat : on se vaccine car c'est une chance extraordinaire de pouvoir le faire et de se prémunir. Le carnet de vaccination est donc "ultra complet" pour couvrir tous les risques des pays que nous traversons, sans omettre quoi que ce soit, peu importe le coût (la vie et la sauvegarde de nos enfants n'a pas de prix et nous ne ferons pas d'économie la dessus, à quoi bon). Ainsi nous pouvons vivre nos "aventures sauvages" en toute liberté ! Bon OK il y a le passage à la piqûre ou les enfants nous maudissent, mais ça ne dure pas... Nous laissons les autres débattre sur l'intérêt ou pas, nous ne comprenons simplement pas le débat, si on peut le faire pourquoi prendre un risque ? Enrichir les Boites qui fabriquent les vaccins ? mais on enrichi déjà les pétroliers, l'état qui ne dépense pas toujours bien nos sous et tant d'autres et tant d'autres entreprises...
Il est "soit-disant" risqué de se faire vacciner en Inde en curatif (je tiens cette information de la responsable de service de Pasteur en médecine tropicale) car les "souches" utilisées la bas ne seraient pas de bonne qualité... Je suis surpris ...
Ce problème de la vaccination contre la rage est vraiment difficile. J'ai demandé à cette dame "spécialiste" Responsable du service de médecine tropicale de Pasteur si je pouvais acheter le vaccin CURATIF, le conserver avec moi, faire vacciner mes enfants en Préventif et utiliser ce vaccin en ma possession en cas de morsure ou de contact très douteux avec un animal (en allant dans un dispensaire ou un hôpital puisque j'ai quelques jours pour en trouver un en Inde - ou ailleurs - durant notre prochain voyage. Sa réponse a été claire :
" Il n'est pas possible de vous donner ce vaccin CURATIF si vous n'êtes pas médecin en activité....et il faut le conserver au frais...."
Ce qui est chiant c'est de se faire vacciner et de devoir revenir en France uniquement en cas de doute.....
Notre décision est donc tout de même d'opter pour la vaccination préventive des enfants car il est plus difficile de contenir un geste hors de notre champs de "contrôle", mais pas nous. Uniquement pour gagner ces quelques jours. De toute façon la vaccination n'a pas d'effet secondaire.
La morale de l'histoire est : il faut mieux prévenir pour avoir une bonne chance de guérir....

Je peux apporter mon témoignage sur du vécu : un chien turc irascible avait confondu mon molet avec un vulgaire kebab, et je n'étais pas vacciné. Le traitement, en plus des soins pour la plaie a consisté en :
1 piqure juste après la morsure
1 piqure le lendemain
3 rappels à 1 semaine d'écart
Le tout fait dans des dispensaires là où je me trouvais, à chaque fois dans de parfaites conditions d'hygiène, et gratuitement. Bravo et merci les Turcs.
Mon médecin que j'ai tout de même consulté par sécurité à mon retour a confirmé que c'était ce qu'il fallait faire. Il m'a aussi conseillé de me promener avec un gros bâton

La Turquie - peut être un jour dans l'Europe - possède une infrastructure hospitalière de bonne qualité dans la plupart des grandes villes et régions touristiques (cause aux investissements étrangers énormes... dans le tourisme et l'industrie = destination Off Shore industrielle importante).

Pour ce qui est de l'allergie, ce n'est pas trop grave, sinon que je suis privé de fruits de mer à vie et que j'aime ça... Mais on n'imagine pas ce qu'une allergie peut poser comme problèmes en voyage.
En ce qui me concerne, pas de poisson autre que grillé (pas de court-bouillon au cas où il y aurait du crage ou crevette dans le court bouillon). Méfiance vis à vis de la bouffe thai (pâte de crevette dans beaucoup de plats), de la bouffe chinoise (sauce aux huitres). Bon, "je gère", encore une fois, c'est pas trop grave, d'autant plus que mes pas ne me dirigent pas forcément en bordure de mer, mais je pense à celui qui a d'autres allergies plus contraignantes : à l'oeuf, à l'arachide (cas très répandus).... Sans compter celui qui s'impose par-dessus le marché des interdits alimentaires d'ordre religieux ou philosophique.....

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.

Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.
I plan to bring my prescriptions with the INN (International Nonproprietary Name), as well as the original packaging (even though it’s a nightmare, but from what I understand, it’s necessary). But I’m not sure if that’s enough...

The suspected origin is contamination in Namibia by jackals.
