Hi, Is it better to get around Ko Lanta with kids by taxi, tuk-tuk, or by renting a car? I don’t want to use a scooter since I don’t have a motorcycle license. Thanks

Hello,

For tuk-tuks—those with a kind of sidecar—I don’t know what they’re called, but you can fit several people in them. Perfect with kids...

Since I have an international driver’s license, I would’ve gone for renting a vehicle. Local transportation is often significantly more expensive on the islands.
Toujours une fois. Au moins.

Hi, If you're staying only on Koh Lanta, taxis should be enough, but if you want to be independent, don’t hesitate to go for a car. There isn’t much traffic on the island, so it’s perfect for driving.

Hi there,

We just got back from Thailand and rented a car for 2 days on Ko Lanta (we have 2 young kids). I think it was the perfect way to explore the island’s hidden spots without relying on tuk-tuks. Driving was easy since there isn’t much traffic.

Hi, Thanks for your feedback. Could you tell me how and where you rented that car? What car insurance did you have?

Thanks

Hi, if you're flying into Krabi, you can rent it at the airport—it’s the easiest option.

Hi, Okay, thanks. Do you know a reliable agency at the airport? Is it better to rent from France?
SE Setto20 ·
We contacted a local rental company on-site via WhatsApp: https://www.sabailantacarrental.com

We left a 5000 baht deposit (which they returned when we brought the car back). The rental contract only had one clause requiring a flat fee to be paid in case of vehicle loss or theft.

Just make sure to take photos of the vehicle to avoid any issues when returning it. This rental company was completely professional and spoke good English.

Otherwise, if you're coming from Krabi Airport, all the well-known car rental agencies are there.

Personally, I rented from Sixt a year ago... I even returned the car with a little dent in the back, and phew, they didn’t say anything.

Ah, okay. Yeah, I’ve heard of that rental agency before. I’m waiting to get my international driver’s permit so I can be sure I’ll be able to drive there.
