bonjour a tous et toutes .....!
et bien ca y est, le 27 janvier nous partons mon amie et moi pour une grande
balade de trois mois a travers thailande cambodge et laos .
Nous arrivons a bangkok, petit escale chez un ami puis premiere escale sur koh chang .
Nous nous sommes dits que pour l'arrivée ca serait pas mal, le soleil la plage et les cascades, ainsi que
pour s'acclimater progressivement au us et coutumes de l'asie ( et oui cest notre premier voyage en Asie ) aux modes de transports etc .... Une amie ayant vecue deux ans en thailande nous conseillait plutot de commencer
par koh phangan, tout etant plus simple tant d'un point de vue communication ( plein de touristes ) que geographique ( une ile cest facile pour commencer et celle ci en particulier prait il ..? ) ; mais vu notre itineraire nous restons sur notre premier choix direction koh chang !
apres un piti passage de frontiere direction sihanoukville ou des amis travaillent desormais dans un pub .petite escale,
peu etre un coup de bateau sur l'ile des lapins, puis on remonte direction phnom penh en ne ratant pas les nombreux temples en chemin ( takéo tec ..) !
escale dans la capitale pour faire notre visa laotien en vue de la frontiere stung streng, et pour faire changer notre billet d'avion un moi ( pour profiter du visa thai gratuit a l'arrivée .... ) en billet trois mois, puis direction les ruines de sambor pour voire comme cest joli et on file sur Siem Reap pour visiter Angkor . Arret dune semaine, puis direction Bang maléea et Prasaht Preah Khan voire ses amgnifiques ruines .
Ensuite, direction stung streng par une route qui selon les dires est assez aventureuse ... Quelqun la connait il, combien de temps a peu pres en saison seche ? Une fois la diretcion Banlung et le ratanakiri pour une semaine de trecks de balade et de detente ... La descente de teveng a virachey en pirogue nous parait plutot geniale, tout comme le parc naturel ....
Bref, apres cela passage de frontiere laotienne puis les 4000 iles ou lon espere voire des dauphins d'eau douce mais quand on connait leur nombre en constante diminution ..... pyuis direction paksé, le vat phu, puis le plateau des bolovens et ses chutte d'eau .
apres on remonte le Mékong jusqu'a Thakhek, direction la riviere primaire de na hin et les grotes de kong lo .
Puis escale a Ban Tabok pour ses trois cascaes et sanature preservée ( on sepere dumoins ... )
Ensuite on evite Ventiane et filons au nord, toujours par la route 13 direction vang vieng, puis Luang prabang . Si nous avons le temps un petit passage a muang ngoi . Puis Oudon Xay et Pakbeng ou l'on reprend le Mékong direction la frontiere et le triangle d'or .... ( a moins que nous nayons le temps de pousser un poil plus dans le nord et muang sing mais en trois mois on ne sait si on aura le temps ..... )
Ensuite visite de pas mal de temple dans le nord thailabde ( chiang sean, chiang mai, lamphun, lampang, le doi suthep etc ... ) pusi on continue a redescendre direction phitsanoulok et ses vestiges . Puis on continue jusqua Lopburi puis lancienne cité D'ayutthaya avant de repasser par bangkok prendre les billets pour le sud et Koh Phangan .....fin de notre périple !!!!
voili voilou, jai bien exposé notre parcours en detail pour une simple et bonne raison ; jaimerai bien savoir si il n'ai pas un peu audacieux de parcourir temps de kilometres en trois mois, sachant quand meme qu'on a la peche car 24 et 26 ans, et une serieuse motivation . !
En tous k tout avi sur notre parcours est le bien venu, nous partons plus qu'a l'aventure sac a dos bien rempli, certes bien vaccinés et préparés, mais cela reste notre premiere et lon ne peux pas tout prevoir ....., Notre seul tranquilité c'est le budget on dispose de plus de 5000 eur pour deux pour trois mois, un couplde d'ami vivait la bas plus que bien avec 2500 eur pour trois moiset pour deux, donc on ne s'en fait pas de ce coté la .....
BREF, si quelqun connait un peu le trajet que nous allons faire ( je saihabituellement il se fait plus dans lautre sens, mais ca cest tout nous ...) et est en mesure de nous affirmer qu'on se prevoit une jolie balade et bien ce sera deja cela ......!

etes vous ausi passés par koh phangan ? y avez vous fait une des full moon et si oui, le son il est vraiment si bidon qu'on ledit ? ny as ti vraiment rien d'original ? apres les prestations du boom festival 2004 au portugal ca va etre dur de trouver aussi sympa ......Mais bon on ne part pas la bas pour le son, cest juste la cerise sur le gateau a la fin de nos trois mois de balade et un repos bien mérité ...
Connais tu des bons plans pour loger sur le plateau des bolovens en evitant tad lo bien entendu ( on ne fera qu'y passer, on n'y dormira que s'il ny pas foule ...) . Es tu passé par la reserve naturelle au nord de thakhet voire les rivieres et forets primaires, et a tu des plans pour loger dans la region ou de belles cascades inedites par exemple ..? meme question pour vangvieng et luang prabang ( la on a reperé pas mal de chuttes deau et de grottes, y a til dautres joyaux ...? ) et pour loger vers muang ngoi ..? le coin nest il vraiment qu'un piege a touriste ?
Apres on pensait redescendre via oudom xay et pakbeng pour prendre le mekhong jusqu'a la frontiere, mais tu penses que lon aurait letemps
de monter un poil plus au nord ? ne serait il pas plus sympa d'aller faire un tour vers um phang et la frontiere ouest de la thailande voire ce fameux endroit oublié des cartes ou la nature a l'air tres preservée ? D'apres les dire des gens le nord laos a l'air magnifique, mais verrons nousdes paysages vraiment differents de ceux croisés jusqu"a lors ? nest il pasp lus prudent de s'attarder un poil plus sur la descende de chiang mai a koh phangan sur des sites comme sukkothai ou kamphaeng phet, histoire d'etre bien dans les temps ? ( nous partons du 27/01 au 25/04 ) d'ailleurs ca va etre le debut de la saison seche, nallons nous pas galerer a remonter le mekhong sur tant de kilometres avec un niveau d'eau bas ?
En tousk cest deja sympa d'avoir repondu, ton avis est le bien venu car nous n'arrivons pas a trouver le recit de quelqun qui aurait fait le tour dans ce sens la, donc la moindre info cachée est bonne a prendre .....

Nous aussi (mon copain&moi) avons fait presque le mm parcours, à l envers avec le Vietnam en +. Je pense que votre parcours est tres bien.
Sur Pakse, pr voir le Plateau des Bollaven, tu peux dormir a Sabaidy2. C'est une ancienne maison coloniale, celle du granp-pere du monsieur qui tient la GH. Il parle francais, dc il y a pas mal de francais, du moins a notre passage. C'est également le seul endroit ou l on peut louer des motos pr aller sur le plateau et voir les differentes chutes d eau. On en a de supers souvernirs.
En ce qui concerne Muang Noi, on y est passe aussi. On loge a Sai Lom GH. On a trouve ce village bcp-touristique que Nong Khiaw, au sud de muang noi.
Si vs avez d autres questions, n hesitez pas et profitez de votre voyage. On en revient changer!!!

Nous avons vraiment pas mal préparé notre trajet et peu de questions nous restent ...
parmis celles ci : Pour faire le visa pour le laos ( on nous a dit que cela coutait 30 dollars a phnom penh !? ) vaut il mieux le faire o cambodge a phnom penh ou en thailande a bangkok ? Sachant que nous arrivons a Bangkok mais aimerions ne pas nous y attarder pour aller sur koh chang, puis au bout de 5 jours passage de frontiere en direction du cambodge ou nous restons un peu moins d'un moi ( et avons donc le temps de faire le visa a phom penh ..) Bref, savez vous ou est ce le plus pratique et le moins cher bien sur ...?
Euh, sinon quoi dautre ...? ....Nous projetons de passer dans la region de Pakxan voir la nature qui a l'air assez vierge ( riviere Nam kading la plus primitice du laos etc ... ) connaissez vous des coins sympas dans cette regions et avez vous des adresse pour loger ou pour les excursions ?
Sinon que faire pour vraiment sortir des sentiers touristiques dans les environs de vang vieng et luang prabang, etes bous passez dans cette region et avez vous des adresses pour les excurtions pour loger etc ...? Apres on ne sait pas trop si on monte plus o nord direction muang sing ou si lon redescend tout de suite direction Pakbeng, est ce vraiment incontournable quand on sait le long trajet qui nous attend ?
Puis nous rerentrons en thailande via le triangle d'or, la aussi jai reperé pas mal de temples a visiter etc mais peu de coins de nature .? le coin a l'air tres touristique, mieux vaut il ne pas trop s'y attarder non ?
Puis ensuite nous redscendons via Chiang rai Chiang mai ( avec les fameux temples du nord qui ont lair plus que beaux ..!? ) lamphum, lampang, puis sri satchanalai avec ses vestiges et le parc naturel avec ses chuttes d'eaux .. ( pas mal de parcs naturels dans cette regions, en aves vous visité, si oui les quels ? avez vous des adresse etc ..? ) puis on continue de descendre via Sukhothai puis Khamphan phet puis lopburi puis Ahuytaya ( jais plus l'ortographe ... ) la sitée sacrée, puis on passe par bangkok ou la on projete de sattarder vite fait un jour ou deux .....
Puis on continue de descendre jusqua Koh phangan et pour le trajet Bangkok koh phangan jai pas encore fait de recherche pour le s chuttes deaux les parcs naturels ou autres temples a visiter, donc si vous avez des idées ..§
voila, cest a peu pres tout pour linstant et surtout la famille arrive jai le repas a préparer !!!

Juste te dire que de passage à Phnom Penh c'est l'idéal pour faire les visas, car ceux ci ne te coûteront pas trés cher, et puis il te suffit de les donner à la réception de ta guest, ils s'en occuperont en 24 ou 48 heures .....
Un beau parc national aussi à visiter est celui de Kao Yai au Nord Est de Bangkok, les activités pour le découvrir sont trés diversifiés et relativement aisées .....
Bon voyage à tous deux, je serais à Bangkok le 24 .... je vous prépare le terrain, au fait c'est une ville intéressante à découvrir aussi ........
juste pour te dire que si tu vas dans le ratanakiri, tu peux t'arranger avec les gardes du parc naturel pour organiser un trip en forte, alors la si tu veux faire un truc sans touristes et hors des sentiers battus, rien n'est amenagé et c'est de la jungle, de la vraie..........lol

Sinon pour Paksé, est il mieux de louer les mobs a Paksé et a partir de la est il possible en une journée d'aller boir les trois chuttes : tad fane, tad suan, et tad lo ? Nest il pas plus sympa de loger sur le plateau des bolovens et de louer les mobs sur place, ce qui evite de longs kilometres de mobs pour se rendre sur le plateau ?Ya til des adresses sympas et pas trop touristiques( donc pas t rop cheres aussi ) pour loger sur le pateau ? Et si nous luons les mobs a Pakxé, faut il les ramener imperativement le soir ?
Et bon, le ^problem principal cest aussi que apres le plateau on remonte dans le nord mais en passant par le plateau direction saravan et sans repasser par Paksé que nous ne faisons que traverser ....
Et connaissez vous des coins sympas dans la region de Saravan ; savanakhet, Pakxan etc ...( temples, chuttes deaux ou nimporte quoi dautre .. ) ?

Pour répondre à ta question sur le visa pour le Laos, je pense qu'il est - cher de faire faire tes visas dans les différents consultats et au fur & à mesure. C'est l'option que nous avons pris pour faire nos voyages.
Pour le plateau des Bolavens, c'est génial à faire en moto. Pr le logement, je te conseille Sabaidy2 GH, ils st supers sympas et c'est je crois le seul endroit ou tu peux louer des motos, peut etre les - chers. Ts les gens qu'on a rencontré à Paksé, loués leur moto a Sabaidy2.
Tu n'es pas obligé de ramener ta moto le soir (si tu les préviens), ms y pas gd chose pr dormir sur le plateau et il fait froid. On est rentré à 21H30, alors qu il fait nuit a19H, on grelottait, la route n'est pas éclairée, dc je pense qu'il vaut mieux rentrer sur Paksé et manger un bon poisson grillé sur les bords du Mékong.
Pr les autres villes, je suis juste passé vite fait à Savanakhet, donc je ne pourrai rien dire.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
