Bonjour, avec un ami, nous prévoyons de partir en stop en Turquie début octobre, de retrouver un autre ami là-bas, puis de découvrir le pays une quinzaine de jours en moto (à deux).
Dans l'idéal, nous comptions acheter deux motos sur place (d'occasion, si on peut s'en tirer pour pas trop cher ce serait mieux) vadrouiller un peu (avec une tente et ce qu'il faut pour etre autonomes) et revendre les motos (ou les laisser au copain là-bas) en partant.
Seulement, plusieurs questions se posent :
- 1. L'un des deux n'a pas de permis moto (mais en a déjà conduit en Inde et Afrique) : est-ce indispensable ? quels sont les risques ? peut-on se débrouiller avec juste un permis voiture (éventuellement international) ? Ou sommes nous obligés de nous limiter à une moto pour deux ?
- 2. Quels sont les papiers obligatoires ? Au niveau assurance, faut-il quelque chose pour rouler là-bas ? Faut-il en souscrire une sur place ? Dans ce cas, j'imagine qu'il faudra forcément fournir un permis et on en revient à la question 1...
- Dans le cas où pas d'assurance, comment cela se passe-t-il en cas d'accident ? On peut s'arranger à l'amiable ? Pour les dégats corporels, une assurance civile couvrirait ça ? (on ne sait jamais...)
- 4. Dans quel coin est-il le plus opportun d'aller ? Y a t il des grands espaces où les contrôles seraient plus rares et où l'on peut arranger ça plus "à l'indienne" ? (pas besoin de papiers, peu de risques d'accidents, réglés à l'amiable, bref, où la moto a un statut de "gros vélo"... 😉)

Difficile de répondre "officiellement" mais mon amie conduisait sans permis une moto française 125cc en Turquie. Maintenant, on ne s'est jamais fait arrêté ;-).
En tout cas, la Turquie en moto c'est le top mais il peut faire froid dans les montagnes de Cappadoce ou de l'Est.

- Penses-tu qu'acheter une machine pour 2 semaines soit réellement une bonne chose? Tracasseries pour les papiers d'immatriculation, la vente sans se faire escroquer, la revente rapide au 1er venu car pas le temps ... faut rentrer ??? Pour 2 ou 3 mois d'accord, mais 2 semaines? As-tu une idée du prix de la location pour cette durée?
- Rouler sans permis et donc sans assurance, même en Turquie ... raisonnable? Au moindre contrôle, ou accident de la circulation .... ça peut finir très mal à mon sens.
En Inde j'avais loué une voiture avec chauffeur, et pourtant je voulais conduire moi même.. Nous avons eu un accident dans un village, un enfant percuté à 60km/h ... Presque une émeute dans le bled, et le chauffeur a été emmené pendant une heure je ne sais où ... vu sa tête au retour ... il a du lâcher du cash, et du lourd ... et c'était un indien !
A toi de définir ta ligne de conduite.
Je suis adepte du proverbe qui dit: "Rien n'est interdit, mais tout n'est pas avantageux".

oublie complètement le fantasme que tu semble faire sur la Turquie ...rescemblant plutot à un pays de bons sauvages où chaque étranger à le droit de faire ce qu'il lui plait et comme bon lui semble !!!
la Turquie est entrée bien vite dans le 21 eme siècle et a rapidement évolué également sur le niveau législatif quand aux règles locales et internationales de conduite ( comme pour tout le reste !)
en Turquie a ce jour, comme en Europe, il te faudra un permis moto Turque ( à défaut de permis moto international) , une assurance locale dument complétée et l'enregsitrement de l'achat de ton véhicule au service ad hoc !!
oublie l'idée que la Turquie est un grand pays rempli d'espace de liberté !!
La police est présente en nombre et plutot omnipotente dans les villes et villages à travers tout le pays !!
incluant :
- nombreux radards mobiles de vitesse
- nombreux controles de papiers avec barage aléatoires posés sur les axes principaux et sorties de villes
- nombreux controle d'alcoolémie avec verbalisation forte !
- régulier passage des grues pour virer les véhicules en infraction au stationnement dans les villes ....
et j'en passe ; et des meilleures !!!
bref, pas de quoi esérer que le code de la route soit différement appliqué chez eux plutot que chez toi !!
plutot que du contraire, car la police ici est plutot difficile à attendrir (tant au niveau oubli de l'amende qu'il comptait m'infliger , que de l'incompréhension des règlementations locales de la pauvre étrangère blonde et belge que je suis ai tenté !!)
si tu veux rouler à moto, il te faut le permis moto et louer une moto en règle et suivre le code de la route ...
sous peine de voir finir ton voyage bien plus rapidement que prévu faute de devises (à force de payer des amendes en cash et en direct pour les étrangers !!!)
et/ou de finir a pied faute de véhicule si tu te le fais confisquer !!.
..mais bonnes vacances tout de meme , en vehicule de location à 2 ou 4 roues ( si tu veux une autonomie complète ...et que tu es pret a payer le prix de l'essence !!)
ou en transport en commun ( si tu préfère passer la technique plus économique !)
Ca n'a pas l'air de rigoler dis donc.
On doit avoir une bonne tête alors car durant notre traversée d'ouest en est pendant 1 mois, on ne s'est jamais fait arrêter/contrôler. On nous avait dit de ne pas passer trop au sud (frontière Syrienne) pour éviter les barrages de l'armée mais seulement car ils te ralentissent trop à vouloir t'offrir le thé et faire des photos...
Si tu veux l'avis de motards d'Istanbul qui connaissent très bien les lois, les possibilités de loc, les problèmes d'assurance/douane/enregistrement, contacte de notre part Mehmet Zeki Avar et/ou Adil Ertas sur Facebook. Ce sont des sources d'infos inépuisables pour les voyageurs en vélo/moto.

Concernant l'achat, en fait, j'ai un ami qui part la-bas pour un an d'étude. L'idée était donc de lui laisser et lui aura tout le temps qu'il faut (à voir s'il l'utiliserait lui-même...) (et nous on passe une semaine avec lui avant donc on peut prendre le temps pour l'achat)
Mais effectivement, la question de la location se pose en fonction des difficultés administratives (faut il immatriculer ? Quelles démarches ? etc)
Encore une fois, j'ai ici l'expérience des motos en Inde ou tu achetes une moto comme un vélo donc sans aucun soucis administratif...
La question d'assurance a la même origine. En Inde en moto, personne ne se pose la question et on avise.
D'où la question : l'assurance est-elle nécessaire/obligatoire ? A t on le meme statut qu'à vélo et l'assurance civile couvre-t-elle les accidents ? Quelle est la "culture de circulation" en Turquie ?
En Inde, je sais que le vélo, ça m'éclatait, la moto, il faut une petite habitude... mais la voiture, j'aurais jamais pris le risque !! 😉

Juste pour correction, je n'ai jamais pris la Turquie pour un pays de "bons sauvages" et je n'en pense pas plus de l'Inde où régnait pourtant indéniablement sur le route l'anarchie de mon "fantasme"
Cependant, c'est vrai qu'une partie de mes questions visaient à définir le "niveau de réglementation" (entre l'Inde et la France il y a de la marge !) qui y régnait notamment sur la question "routière". Et effectivement, il me semblait (de ce que j'ai lu) qu'il y avait encore des grands espaces plus "libres".
Après, si c'est si compliqué que ça, on s'orientera sur une moto pour deux ou sur du stop ou du vélo, je n'ai pas d'a priori.

n'y vois rien d'agressif dans mon image de bon suavage, mais je voulais justement te marquer sur le fait que la Turquie est effectivemetn bien loin des habitudes de l'Inde par exemple que tu connais ...ou encore de nombreux pays arabo musulmans, telle que l'EGypte que je connais pour y avoir vécu longtemps ou un billet, un sourire et le fait d'etre étranger nous permet de nous sortir facilement de nombreuses situations !
ayant conduit et m'etant rarement fait arréter en Egypte, mon status d'etrangère etait effectivement un sauf conduit pour éviter pas mal de controle , le policier sachant parfaitement qu'il allait au delas de problème de communication .... ou si vraiemetn il insistait à m'arreter , c'est qu'il avait besoin de finir ses fins de mois et que j'etais vraiemetn en infraction .... mais que nous pouvions solutionner à l'amiable avec un petit billet !!

quand la police arrete, elle arrete tout le monde sans filtrer à la tete du client, et prend le temps necessaire pour verifier que tous tes papiers sont en règle ainsi que le véhicule ! sinon tu ne vas pas plus loin !!
quand elle flashe , il faut payer cash et illico en tant qu'etranger !!
et quand ma voiture s'est faite embarquer en fouriere pour mauvais parking en ville, le process pour la récupérer et l'amende est pareille pour tous !!
bref, en Turquie les lois sont quasi identiques aux lois européennes, et la facon d'appliquer aussi ....
la seule différence est surtout au niveau pratique de ocnduite, où les turcs ont une interprétation tres personnelle du code de la route !
il faut donc te méfier de tous quand tu roule, surtout si tu es le plus faible ou le plus petit ... ( le pire est le pieton qui n'a plus aucun droit !!) et le faire plutot cool à les laisser passer pour s'excitter seuls sur la route pendant que toi tu profitte du paysage !! ...
mais là aussi, si tu as déja conduit dans le sud de l'italie ou en sicile, tu auras l'impression de déja vécu !

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.

Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)

Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
