Hi, Do you think 8 days is enough to visit Philadelphia, especially the Rocky spots (my son is a huge fan), and the White House in Washington? For mid-April or mid-July. Thanks

Hi, it might be a bit tight. Personally, I spent a full week in Washington DC and still didn’t see everything. For example, the Air and Space Museum at Dulles takes a whole morning. And that’s not even counting travel time. The upside is that most museums (except Dulles) are pretty much side by side on the Mall.

For the White House, you’ll only see it from the outside—it’s not open for visits unless you know someone who works there.

Hi there, and thanks for your tips! Our trip is mostly centered around the "Rocky" theme in Philadelphia (it’s a surprise for my son), and I’m not really seeing much else to do there—that’s why I’m asking on this forum. Have a great day

Hello and thank you for your advice, but our trip is mainly based on the "Rocky" theme in Philadelphia (a surprise for my son), and I don’t see much to do there, hence my question on this forum. Have a nice day

I get it. In Philadelphia, if you like American history, there’s the Liberty Bell, but honestly, you’ll see it in five minutes. There isn’t much to do in Philly, really.

Just a curious question: Are there any Rocky-related things in Washington and Philadelphia? Apart from the Rocky statue and the steps in front of the museum in Philadelphia, I didn’t see anything else.

Anyway, from my experience, 8 days should be enough if you focus on the main points of interest. Here’s the itinerary I followed back then: Day 1: Arrival in Philadelphia, quick visit Day 2: Philadelphia: downtown, the Liberty Bell, Barnes Foundation, the Rocky statue and the steps (didn’t visit the museum) Day 3: Visit to Amish Country Day 4: Finish up in Philly and drive to Washington, D.C. Days 5–7: Washington (the Mall, passing by the White House, Air and Space Museum, Holocaust Museum, Capitol Building, Arlington Cemetery, 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon, George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, and for me, the Air and Space Museum at Dulles while the family shopped/walked around Georgetown).

I didn’t feel like I was rushing, even though we had hotels on the outskirts. Drove in Philly. In Washington, used public transport for the Mall and the car for everything else.

Yes, that's right, but he also wants to go to the street where Rocky lived (I read that you shouldn’t go there alone because it’s a sketchy neighborhood) and also the pet shop where Adrian worked... Lol 😄

Oh wow, that's serious. I can't help you anymore there. But I get it—I'm an Elvis fan, so I spent 5.5 hours at Graceland and two days in Memphis. ;) Oh, these kids!! And I'm also a fan of Sylvester!! ;)

Still a big 20-year-old kid who’s watched all the movies a dozen times...

@Valérie: I didn't know that was there too. For his house, I checked it out on Street View. Okay, the neighborhood doesn't look very nice, but it's not that bad! You just drive by and that's it, nothing special to do. And if you're reassured and your son feels like it, I wouldn't hesitate to make a quick stop! I've wandered through some run-down neighborhoods in Detroit during the bad times, and nothing happened to me.

@Mitch341: I get you. I'm not a fan of Elvis, but I was impressed visiting his museum and Graceland. I was surprised by the passion, including among young people whose parents (or grandparents!) grew up with his music and are fans. And the fervor—I ended up there completely by chance on the 40th anniversary of his death. Amazing!

Hi there

We did a day trip to Philadelphia from New York, and there isn’t a ton to see (Independence Hall, Liberty Bell). But you’ve gotta try a Philly Cheesesteak! 😛

There’s also Valley Forge, about 35 kilometers northwest of Philadelphia. This site was an important location during the Revolutionary War.
Il faut bien revenir pour repartir!
