Mon compagnon et moi partons bientôt pour deux semaines au Maroc, en février 2020. Nous sommes en train de planifier notre voyage, et nous nous posons plusieurs questions concernant notre itinéraire et les transports sur place...
En effet, nous aimerions nous déplacer uniquement en transports en commun (bus/train), plutôt que de louer un véhicule.
Mais nous ne sommes pas sûrs que cela soit possible partout, même si le réseau de bus à l'air plutôt bien développé.
Nous avons aussi un doute sur le nombre d'endroits que nous avons prévu de voir. Aurons-nous le temps de tout voir en 15 jours ? Car les distances ont l'air immenses surtout dans le sud...
Voici notre "itinéraire idéal" mais il n'est pas définitif, car nous sommes conscients qu'il faudra faire des choix et certainement supprimer certains lieux sélectionnés...
Nous sommes preneurs de tous bons conseils !! (certains lieux non accessibles en transports ? trop de lieux prévus au programme ? quels lieux garder/supprimer ?!...etc)
1) "Zone nord (nord et Moyen-Atlas): Fès - Chefchaouen - Meknès
2) "Zone centre" (Haut Atlas): Marrakech
3) "Zone sud" (Anti Atlas) :La Route tizi-n-test de Marrakech à Taroudannt (route apparemment magnifique, mais est-elle accessible en bus?) / Tafraoute et les Gorges d'Aït Mansour / Tiznit (rocher rouge 'chapeau de Napoléon' et 'rochers bleus d'Aoumerkt')
4) Zone sud Est" (Anti atlas et Désert Sahara) : Retour à Marrakech puis route "Tizi-n-Tchika" de Marrakech à Ouarzazate (idem, route apparemment magnifique, mais est-elle accessible en bus?) / Ouarzazate : Aït Ben Haddou ; Oasis de Fint / Boumalne : Vallée des Roses ; Vallée du Dadès / Tinghir : Gorges du Todgha / Le djebel Saghro / Vallée du Draa vers Zagora (mais certainement trop loin!) / Merzouga ou Rissani (?) pour une expérience en dromadaire et une nuit dans le désert/dunes de l'Erg Chebi
5) retour à Fès depuis Merzouga (ou Rissani?)
-Mon compagnon est certain que l'on ne pourra pas tout voir en 15 jours, et suggère d'enlever la zone sud (entre Marrakech et Tafraoute/tiznit) pour passer plus du temps du côté de Ouarzate et de Merzouga. Sachant que nous souhaiterions être le plus dépaysé possible, et privilégier les paysages qui ressemblent le plus à l'Ouest Américain..!
Qu'en pensez-vous ?
-Enfin, le sens de notre circuit est-il cohérent ? Ou faut-il mieux faire en sens inverse ? (par ex : Fès - Merzouga - Ouarzazate - (Tafraoute) - Marrakech - puis retour à Fès)

En Février je garderais juste la zone Sud Est et Sud Anti Atlas + Marrakech , avec une voiture de location , à deux vous pouvez rentabiliser , de plus peu de circulation sur les routes .

Déjà en voiture , ce serait trop , mais en transport en commun. ..Il y a beaucoup de bus et taxis collectifs , c'est sans problème, mais chaque déplacement vous coûtera une demi journée ou une journée de transport suivant distance ! ( déplacements à la gare routière, attente d'un transport, trajet ...)
Une boucle du style Fes/ Meknes- Merzouga- Todghra, Dades, Ouarzazate/ Ait Benhaddou- Marrakech- Fes sera déjà bien assez remplie !
L'itinéraire proposé par Fangui me paraît plus réaliste. Surtout si c'est votre premier voyage au Maroc. C'est un parcours qui offre déjà un bel aperçu du pays. Et vous verrez au fil des jours si vous pouvez en prévoir un peu plus. Ne réservez pas vos nuits , vous trouverez toujours à vous loger, à 2 , c'est plus simple.

Je pense que nous allons donc réduire notre circuit, en enlevant la partie Sud (Taroudant, Tafraoute, Tiznit etc, même si ca à l'air magnifique !) et en suivant les conseils de Fangui.
L'itinéraire ci-dessous semble t-il plus cohérent ? (nous disposons de 17 jours au total en comptant le jour d'arrivée et de départ, donc 15 jours complets sur place) :
-Fès
-Meknès
-Chefchaouen (+ cascades d'achkour ?)

-Direction Ouarzazate et alentours : Ait Ben Haddou, Oasis de Fint, Vallée des Roses, Vallée du Dadès, Gorges de Toudgha, Jbel Saghro
-Route "Tizi n Tchika" reliant Ouarzazate à Marrakech
-Visite de Marrakech
-Vol retour depuis Marrakech OU bus Marrakech jusqu'à Fès puis vol retour depuis Fès
Trouverons-nous des trains/bus/taxis collectifs pour chacun des endroits listés ?
C'est plus raisonnable ! Pas de problème pour trouver des transports et des hôtels.
L'idéal serait de revenir en avion de Marrakech. Vous gagneriez la journée de trajet entre Marrakech et Fès

On a tous envie d'en voir le maximum, c'est normal...Mais pas toujours réaliste.
Et vous devriez trouver des moyens de locomotion. Mais ça prend plus de temps de voyager de cette manière.

Février c'est l'hiver, même au Maroc ! Alors, pour éviter pluie, froid et/ou neige, écartez le Nord et ne conservez que le Sud (Marrakech et en dessous). Au sud de l'Atlas, en février, on trouve super-ciel bleu, des fleurs, des couleurs intenses : voyez les 2 photos de Hanahana...
L'an passé, en voiture louée et connaissant fort bien le coin, en 10 jours, je me suis limité à Marrakech, Essaouira, l'Anti-Atlas, la vallée du Draa, et un petit tour du côté du Dadès (skoura, vallée des Roses); les amis que j'ai emmenés ont même trouvé cela dense...

Mais, finalement, nous avons décidés de ne pas nous rendre à Meknès. Pour la zone Nord, nous irons uniquement à Fès et Chefchaouen.
Cela nous permettra de gagner 1 jour de plus dans la partie Sud du Maroc qui nous attire plus :)
Je suis sûre que Meknès et Volubilis sont des lieux très jolis à voir, mais, comme tout le monde l'a dit précédemment, on ne peut jamais tout voir sur quelques semaines, et il faut faire des choix ..!
Au final nous allons donc faire :
Fès / Chefchaouen / Bus Fès-Merzouga / 1 nuit dans l'Erg Chebbi / Tinghir (pour la palmeraie de Tinghir et les Gorges Todgha) / Boumalne du Dadès (pour les gorges du Dadès, la vallée des Roses et le jbel Saghro si possible) / Ouarzazate (pour Ait Ben Haddou et Oasis de Fint) / puis la route Tizi N Chika (qui est très belle apparemment) reliant Ouarzazate à Marrakech en bus

- Why do so many people recommend avoiding international agencies for car rentals? Can anyone explain why?
- Is Booking.com reliable, and has anyone rented a vehicle through their service? There’s a pretty big price difference compared to local Moroccan agencies.
- Is there a detailed road map included in the rental car?
- Is Google Maps enough to get around the High Atlas? This will be my first trip there.

I’ve read through the various discussions about the country, but I’m still a bit unsure🤪: for currency exchange, I saw on the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs website that withdrawing currency with a bank card from ATMs is limited to 200 TND per week. There are four of us traveling by car, so that might be a bit tight! And it’s a hassle to carry a lot of cash, even if I’m not being paranoid! What do you all recommend?

Then, when I mentioned I wanted to stay for two or three weeks—maybe even a month—explaining that my trip wouldn’t be strictly touristy but more of a pilgrimage to the places of my childhood, and that it would likely be a very emotional journey, I expected a positive and warm reaction to my approach. Instead, I suddenly stopped getting replies from the three or four people I’d contacted. So now I’m wondering about the reception former Pieds-Noirs can expect...

- If so, does it need to be paid in advance?

I’d like to do a route that’s a bit different from my first stay, which was more focused on cities and culture (Tunis, Sousse, Kairouan, El Jem).
I’ll be getting around by public transport.
I’d like to head south toward Tozeur, and I saw that you can take a *louage* from Monastir to Sbeitla (2h30). I imagine it’s not too complicated to get to Tozeur from there afterward? The issue is the return trip to Monastir and safety in Sbeitla.
If this route seems too complicated, I might opt for Djerba instead, which looks simpler.

After that, I have the choice of heading back to Tangier for my return flight... or going down to Agadir (also a possible return flight) and extending my trip by 5 days :)
From what I can tell, everything is well connected by bus (CTM) or train (ONCF).
Another question: Is the vibe in Moroccan youth hostels for meeting people the same as what you’d find in Western Europe?

(though there are fraudulent sites out there). On the official site, they ask for legitimate info
(name, nationality, etc.). What made me go "hmm" was the request for both an email address
AND a password (with confirmation). Is this normal?

A lot of people find it important to stick to their budget when traveling—not to skimp, but to visit as many places as possible since traveling is their hobby.
In this post, I want to share some tips for those coming to Morocco who want their trip to be budget-friendly.
1. Prebook everything: hotels or riads, car rentals, or tours. If you book these in advance, it’ll make your life easier. You won’t have to deal with hagglers or people trying to overcharge you for services that are available online for free. Use platforms like Booking, Expedia, carsrental.ma, Airbnb, and other booking services to get this done properly.
2. Exchange your money to Moroccan dirhams as soon as you land. 1 € is always a little over 10 dirhams, but many people get charged as if it were exactly 10 dirhams per euro.
3. When visiting an old site or the old medina, avoid talking to vendors and shop owners—they’re really good at getting your attention and making you overpay for things.
4. Ask your tour guide to buy things for you. Yes, they do get a commission, but you’ll probably pay way more if you buy something yourself that they can get cheaply.
5. Walk everywhere. You don’t need a taxi for every little trip. Pick a good location and walk—most Moroccan cities are safe during normal hours.
6. Buy your food, drinks, etc., from supermarkets at normal prices. They can’t overcharge you since they scan every product.
