voila je suis en train de commencer a organiser un petit periple de 27 jours, je souhaite faire le Laos et le Cambodge, arrivant a Bangkok nous commencerons par le nord du laos et descendrons jusqu'au Cambodge.
je souhaiterais donc avoir l'avis des personnes ayant deja effectuer ce periple ou des personnes qui projette de le faire. Est il mieux de prendre lavion bangkok-luang prabang et de redescendre ou de faire bangkok-chiang rai pour arriver de la frontiere via
Hua Xai.
Je coince un peu sur l'organisation à l'arrivée a Bangkok, en faite, nous n'avons que 25 jours donc pas trop envie de perdre du temps inutilement... après si ces 2 jours de descente sur le mekong est LE truc a voir absolument je n'ai pas envie de le louper
Avec 25 jours , j'irai directement à LP avec un vol LAO AIRLINES .
Et peut etre privilegier une ballade sur la NAM OU
Nous rentrons d'un periple de 21 jours et nous avons du faire des choix , le temps passe tres vite ; 10 jours au nord ( LP , 3 jours chez Joel , un francais marié à une laotienne et qui vit ds un village isolé , il a 2 chambres et propose des ballades , Nong kiaw et muang noi ), vol LP -PAKSE ,10 jours au sud (boloven en moto et 4000 iles + retour sur bangkok )

Nous avons comme vous voulu faire Laos-Cambodge, mais nous sommes tellement tombé en amour avec le Laos qu'on y a passé 2 mois;)
Nous sommes arrivé sur Bangkok pour repartir le lendemain pour Chiang Rai en avion avec Nok Air. On a logé une nuit au Baan Bua Homestay. Super!
Ensuite, le bus du matin pour Chiang Kong où l'on a traversé au Laos à Huay Xai. Plutôt que de faire comme avec le trajet en bateau sur 2 jours pour Luang Prabang, on a engagé un batelier via la BAP Guesthouse pour monter la Nam Tha en direction de Luang Nam Tha. Pour la suite Nong Khiaw est un petit paradis pour relaxer dans un hamac avec vue sur les montagnes. De là vous pouvez descendre la Nam Ou jusqu'à Luang Prabang. Belle ville coloniale qui a besoins d'être apprivoisée...ça bouge!!
Vous pouvez ensuite descendre vers Vang Vieng pour ses paysages magnifiques.
La capitale est très sympa et on a préféré à Luang Prabang...plus assumé!
Prochaine étape, Thae Kaek si vous avez le temps pour un trek.
Parksé, ville transit pour les 4000 îles.
Ensuite, vous relaxer dans un joli petit bungalow et si vous avez encore le temps vous continuez pour le Cambodge ou retournez à Bangkok;)
Pour le Laos, je vous recommande fortement de priviligier le nord en vous gardant quelques jours pour les îles. Et oui, de considérer un mois complet dans ce fabuleux pays qui va changer rapidement avec toutes ses constructions de route...pour le mieux du peuple Lao bien sûr, mais je crois qu'il faut vivre l'expérience de cette belle vie simple. Les gens sont tellemements généreux!!!!
Et oui malheureusement le travail n'attends pas se seras 27 jour et pas un de plus 🙁
Nous avons fait la Thailande lannée dernière en 20 jours (bangkok, sukhothai, chiang mai, phuket, bangkok), et le faite d'avoir pris un vol de Chiang Mai à Phuket on etais decus de partir si vite, surtout qu'à Phuket on avait été décus, et comme on avait deja réserver des hotel pas le choix d'y rester. Là on veut pas faire la même erreur!
Du coup je pensais arriver par avion à Luang Prabang rester 3 à 4 jours,
prendre bus pour Vang Vieng y rester peut etre 1 nuit,
re-bus pour Ventiane 1 ou 2 nuits,
bus de nuit pour Paksé où l'on resteraient 4-5 jours en faisant le plateau des Bolovens et Champassak
ensuite les 4000 iles combien de jour je ne sais pas...
Et puis descendre au Cambodge et là a part Angkor je ne sais pas trop ce qui est incontournable... dc soit que Angkor puis direction Bangkok ou alors, on visite un peu plus le cambodge et Bangkok juste 1 jour
Donc cest vrai que la au total sa ne fait pas mes 27 jours de vacances mais sa permet de pouvoir rester plus longtemps a tel endroit si le coeur nous en dit,
Derniere question pour rejoindre Bangkok j'ai vu l'avion de pnom penh a bangkok, y a t il un trajet mieux que celui ci? certainement moins cher?!

Alexandre, je te remercie pour ce beau post et pour les bons conseils. Je note soigneusement ce que tu as écrit. Je pars pour un voyage Bangkok-Cambodge-Laos-Yunnan à la mi-janvier et on a prévu cinq semaines au Laos, du Sud au Nord. Les treks sont au programme, tant dans la région de Luang Namtha, que dans celles de Savannakhet et de Thae Keak. Tes photos et ton récit me font rêver au départ!
Oui merci pour votre blog, j'ai juste du mal à vous suivre au jour le jour mais c'est souvent un problême avec les blogs.
Nous ne sommes plus si jeunes mais nous irons un peu sur vos traces cet hiver, depuis le Cambodge vers le nord Laos. Nous voyagerons 7 semaines en transport en commun, certains tronçons en avion. Le plus dur est d'équilibrer le voyage pour quand même avoir vu une bonne partie de notre programme. Au nord nous aimerions bien aller dans ces villages sur la Nam Ou de maniëre moins sportive quand même. Dîtes moi, aussi, votre expédition vers la plaine des jarres vous à pris combien de temps?
Sinon en gros notre voyage: nous arrivons depuis Bangkok à Phnom Pen 3 nuits, on ira ensuite à Kampong Chnang, villages flottants et de potiers, il faut dire que je suis céramiste et en dehors de la poterie, j'ai beaucoup d'intérêt pour les métiers manuels. De là nous irons à Battabang et ensuite à Siem Reap, je pense qu'on y prendra notre temps 6 jours?... Puis, depuis Siem Reap on devrait remonter vers le Laos en 3 jours. Dans le sud Laos je pense une douzaine de jours avant de prendre un avion de Paksé à Luang Prabang. Donc on faisait l'impasse sur Vientiane que vous semblez avoir bien apprécié, pouvez vous me dire ce que vous avez aimé?
La plupart des voyageurs partent du nord Laos vers le sud, j'ai choisi l'inverse, ce n'est pas toujours aussi facile pour les infos trajets.
Ne pas trop planifier, prendre le temps pour sortir des sentiers battus mais il faudra sûrement faire des choix, du coup je lis beaucoup les récits comme le votre pour savoir ce que je veux vraiment voir: Dans mon cas c'est Angkor, Luang Prabang et la Nam Ou.

Pour la Plaine des Jarres on est vraiment passé express, car ce n'était vraiment pas au programme "de base". Une journée pour le transport en bus à partir de Luang Prabang, une journée de visite des trois sites en scooter et le lendemain départ pour Vang Vieng en bus. On a vraiment regretté de ne pas avoir été plus haut voir les anciens quartiers généraux de la CIA. On reviendra, lors d'une visite du Vietnam....
Pour le Cambodge, on y sera de février à mars 2014.

Notre vol international arrive depuis Bruxelles sur Bangkok, de là on change d'aéroport puis vol sur Phnom Pen. Notre voyage commence au Cambodge et se termine au Nord Laos mais notre vol retour vers Bxl repart de Bangkok donc je pense qu'on reviendra depuis le nord de la Thailande sur la capitale! Nous partons du 13/1 au 3/3. Jusqu'à présent seuls nos vols et nos 3 nuits à Phnom Pen sont réservées.
Don Daeng est au programme! On pense y rester trois nuits, et de là, prendre une de nos journées pour aller visiter la ville de Champassack et le Wat Phou, et passer les deux autres journées sur l'ile même.
Oui, très bon billet même, avec Japan Airlines: Montréal-Bangkok à l'aller et Hong Kong-Montréal au retour (avec deux escales à chaque fois) pour 1280$!
De notre côté, on part à la mi-janvier de Montréal, et on sera à Bangkok puis au Cambodge jusqu'au... 11 février! On enchaine ensuite avec le Laos, puis le Yunnan. C'est dommage qu'on se manque d'un jour. Ça aurait été chouette de prendre un repas tous les quatre ensemble à Phnom Penh et échanger des recommandations, de vous à nous pour le Laos et de nous à vous pour le Cambodge. Une autre fois, peut-être!

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
