Hi there, We’re heading to southern Japan for 15 days with the family in August. We just checked the train tickets. What a nasty shock! Any tips for traveling on a budget? Thanks

Hi there,

You can take a flight—there’s a lot of competition among airlines, including low-cost carriers like Peach, Skymark, and budget branches of ANA and JAL. JAL even has very affordable fares specifically for tourists. The earlier you book, the cheaper it gets—sometimes discounts apply up to 75 days in advance, for example. Alternatively, you could rent a car. Just a heads-up: August is *very* hot and humid in southern Japan, and even up north.

Hi, Also consider the buses. We used them a few years ago, especially for overnight trips, and they were really comfortable. https://willer-travel.com/en/ Best regards
