Est-ce faisable / raisonnable dans la journée ? et est-ce simple de le faire par soi-même ? Je crains de e svoir que faire des bagages et d'arriver tard le soir à Tam Coc également.

Bonjour, Nous partons à Da nang le 4 février à 2 pour 30 jours de visites, découvertes, ballades et repos tranquillou ! Nous avons de ne faire que le centre de façon à réserver le nord pour une autre saison et le sud pour une autre année (donc on ne descendrait pas jusqu' Dalat) ! Nous avons épluché le routard et le lonely et parcouru le forum qui regorge d'informations passionnantes ........et c'est le pb car nous ne savons plus comment orienter notre séjour. Aussi je pose les questions en vrac . 1/ ce qui est fixé : arrivé à Danang et direct à Hoi An = 7 jours pour rayonner puis Hué = 4 ou 5 jours ?? (nous aimons prendre notre temps) 2/ Ensuite reste donc 17 ou 18 jours pour faire Kontum, Buon Ma Thuot et remonter vers Da nang en faisant une ou 2 escales sur des plages : Doc let ? Qui Nhon (bai Xep ?)

Que pensez vous de la faisabilité en fonction des temps de transport ? Quelles sont les durées de transports ? N'est-ce pas "redondant" de faire une étape à Kontum et à BMT sachant que nous n'aimons pas faire des escales de moins de 2 jours ? Est-ce possible d'aller en louant une moto visiter seul les villages à la journée ? et les campagnes environnantes ?

Pour la remontée et escale plage (avant retour dans froid et grisaille parisienne) vos avis ?

Désolé, je sais que tout çà a déjà été énoncé dans des carnets de voyage (j'en ai 6 pages de notes!) mais je n'arrive pas à synthétiser et "essentialiser"

I couldn’t find any recent posts on this topic, so I thought I’d create a new one. We’ve just started planning our family trip to Vietnam this coming August. We’d like to travel from North to South, starting in Hanoi and ending in Ho Chi Minh.

Usually, we rent a car when we arrive and manage on our own. But I get the feeling that in Vietnam, it’s more complicated... It seems like the only option we have is to rent a car with a driver? Is that really the case?

I’m thinking of starting with a cruise in Halong Bay since we arrive on my partner’s birthday, and I wanted a beautiful setting to celebrate it. So, is the option of having a driver wait for 2 days while we’re on the cruise really feasible?

The rest of the itinerary isn’t planned at all yet. I’d love to hear your tips. We’re traveling from August 8th (morning) to the 26th (afternoon).

On pense se deplacer en train / mini van. Avez vous des conseils sur ces étapes ? Des bons plans d'agences pour la Baie d'Halong notamment ? Des choses à absolument ne pas manquer ou à rajouter ?

Hi there, After arriving in Ho Chi Minh City at the beginning of March 26, where I think I’ll stay for maybe two days (or more?), we’d like to spend a few days in the Mekong Delta. Is it better to stay in one place (Vinh Long, Cai Be, My Tho, An Binh, etc.) and take boat trips every day, or split our time between two or three spots, which means changing accommodation and moving our luggage around? Of course, agencies offer 3- or 5-day tours from Ho Chi Minh City, but are they really worth it, both financially and in terms of the visits themselves? What’s your experience with this? How did you do it, and if you had to do it again? Any tips? Thanks in advance for your help. Dominique

Good evening, I’m posting a new message after browsing the forum. Our 16-day backpacking trip (late June to mid-July 2026) focused on hiking and connecting with locals is starting to take shape, but I’d love your input. I’m torn between two routes: Option 1: A loop from Hanoi to Hanoi, starting with Bai Tu Long Bay, then Tam Coc, Mai Chau, Pu Luong, Mu Cang Chai, and the area around Sapa, before taking the train back to Hanoi. Hello everyone, We’re heading to Vietnam for 14 nights over the Christmas holidays as a family of four—I haven’t booked anything yet. I’d love your insights on Halong Bay (or Lan Ha Bay). We’re torn between going or not and spending an extra night in Ninh Binh (or somewhere else you’d recommend! Somewhere with a more picturesque vibe) given the late-December weather and cost (which agency do you recommend?). The upside might be that we’ll be there during the low season, so maybe fewer tourists? (Even though it’d be New Year’s Eve night.) Hi, In February, we’d like to visit the Xeo Quyt forest site. On the LP (Lonely Planet), it’s listed near Cao Lanh, but when I look at the map, it seems much closer to Sa Dec. Since we’re planning to stop in Sa Dec during our trip, I’d love to know if there are buses to get to Xeo Quyt. What’s your take on the site itself?

Also, while we’re in HCMC, we’re thinking of doing a "day trip" to the Cu Chi tunnels. I’ve read reviews about Ben Dinh, but almost nothing about Ben Duoc (except that it’s less touristy!). Which one should we choose? Do agencies offer tours to Ben Duoc?

Bonjour à tous, Je me casse la tête sur comment organiser nos journées libres sans agence à Hoi An et Hué. A Hoi An, nous serons 2 jours et nuits au Hoi An Chic. J’avais pensé visiter la vieille ville un matin tôt. Est ce qu’une visite à pied avec un guide local nous permettrait de mieux apprécier la ville? Par la suite, quoi faire: tous les groupes organisés semblent faire le même type de visites des villages et boutiques d’artisans en vélo...Le vélo, ça nous plairait bien mais je ne veux pas me rendre dans les endroits les plus touristiques... Et la plage, il y en a une qui est mieux dans le coin, propre et pas trop bondée ou bruyante? Nous serons à Hoi An en mars, un mardi et mercredi.

Idem pour Hué. Nous y serons presque 2 jours complets, car prenons le train de nuit pour Ninh Binh à 21h30. Par contre, nous y sommes un vendredi et samedi... Les agences proposent toute la visite de la citadelle ET des tombeaux (2-3) dans la même excursion. On aurait voulu faire ce type de visites sur les 2 jours, prendre plus notre temps pour les visites et en faire une visite de toute une journée en combinant bateau, ou vélo.. On pourrait visiter alors la citadelle et cité interdite par nous- mêmes le lendemain ou doit on aussi prendre un tour guidé avec une agence ?

Avez vous le nom d’une agence locale intéressante pour ce type de visites ? Des suggestions? On va prendre 1 journée en plus avec chauffeur entre Hoi An et Hué pour aller visiter My Son, musée Cham à Danan, montagne de marbre...

Bonjour, Nous sommes un couple avec nos 2 filles de 12 et 15 ans et nous serons au vietnam du 14/02 au 01/03. Quelqu'un peut il me conseiller sur l itinéraire en arrivant par Hanoï , sachant que nous voulons faire du Nord au sud avec en incontournable Baie de lan ha ( halong) et la baie terrestre d Halong, au centre Hoi an puis au sud le Delta du Mekong. Enfin nous souhaitons terminer par au moins 3 ou 4 jours de Balnéaire. En février, il fait froid donc certaines agences me conseillent quand meme le nord et d autres non ? Une alternative proposer et Mai Chau à priori ou rester un peu plus dans la campagne de Hoï an dans le centre . Je suis un peu perdue. Merci pour vos conseils.

Bonjour à tous, Nous revenons d'un périple de 3 semaines en juillet aout avec 2 semaines sur le Nord Vietnam (Hanoï, les montagnes du NO vers Ha Giang à deux pas de la frontière chinoise puis les deux baies d'Halong (terrestre et maritime), le delta du fleuve rouge (à faire; pas de touristes rencontrés), Hué, Hoï An et vol pour le Cambodge de Da Nang pour SiemReap pour les temples d'Angkor puis le lac Tonlé Sap au centre du pays et enfin Pnohm Penh pour le retour France, Nice avec Emirates via Dubaï. Nous avons été trés loins de notre "zone de confort" parfois lorsque chez l'habitant et souvent éloignés des zones touristiques que ce soit pour loger ou pour manger. Nous avons évités toutes ces agences sur Hanoï qui vous proposent les mêmes choses en 1/2 ou 3 jours. Je vous recommande notre guide francophone si cela vous intéresse. Il est indépendant et en plus est féru de botanique et se déplace sur l'ensemble du Vietnam. Une belle rencontre.

Pour le Cambodge, restez sur Siem Reap et les temples d'Angkor, le reste peut être évité.

Hi everyone, We have a chance to stop in Hanoi on our way from Japan back to France. We arrive on Tuesday, May 12th around 2 PM and leave for France on Saturday, May 16th around 10 PM. I’d like to do a 2-day cruise in Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay, then either 2 days in Ninh Binh or 1 day. - 12/05: Hanoi - 13/05: cruise - 14/05: end of cruise and head to Tam Coc - 15/05: sightseeing - 16/05: early departure for Hanoi, day in Hanoi, then flight to France at 10 PM We don’t want to be overwhelmed by crowds of tourists and prefer to be on our own.

I’m planning and organizing a wonderful trip to Vietnam from mid-March to mid-April 2026, traveling independently for a month with my wife to enjoy her new retirement. Here’s a summary of our itinerary: We arrive in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of Wednesday, March 18, and depart from Hanoi on the evening of Thursday, April 16. First, I’d like to head to Ho Chi Minh City because the temperatures are high in that region in mid-March. After that, we’ll visit Phu Quoc Island and then the Mekong Delta. We’ll return to Ho Chi Minh City and take a flight to Hue for 2 days, then Tam Coc / Ninh Binh (2-3 days), and Cat Ba Island with a visit to Lan Ha Bay (4 days). We’ll spend a few days in Hanoi, followed by 3-4 days in Sapa with some hikes, and then the Ha Giang loop (4 days). (I’m a motorcyclist—I ride a BMW trail bike and have taken care of renewing my international license.) We’re considering renting a motorcycle or bicycles when needed, except in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The weather in northern Vietnam in early April should theoretically be decent. Finally, we’ll return to Hanoi before heading back to Paris and the Pays de la Loire. Unfortunately, I’m skipping Angkor in Cambodia. I’d like to have a guide for 1 or 2 days in Sapa (which typical agency would you recommend?), and I’m wondering if I should book an agency for the 4 days in Ha Giang. I prefer my independence and don’t really like the "group" aspect of agencies. I’ll rent a 150cc motorcycle, and my wife will ride with me. Other questions: What are some good, typical accommodations to book in the places we’ve identified? Thanks for any info. Did I forget anything, or should we adjust our itinerary? Hi, We’ve planned a week in the delta, but sometimes I wonder if that’s not too much… We’ll be there in early February, and the idea is to take a taxi straight from Saigon Airport to Ben Tre. I’m counting on 3 nights to recover and adjust after the long trip. Then I was thinking of Sadec, Can Tho, Chau Doc, Ha Tien, and back to Saigon for 3 nights before a flight to Hoi An. We’ve got 6 weeks total, so we have a bit of time. After reading different travel stories, the destinations in the delta seem a bit repetitive—I keep seeing the same excursions. On the other hand, I also think having time is a chance to get to know the local life a little better. My question really comes down to this: for those of you who travel at a relaxed pace, do you have any tips? I’ve heard the floating markets aren’t that interesting anymore. Also, motorbikes aren’t our thing. Thanks
