Je vous sollicite car je vais partir en Thaïlande en mars, et j'aurais un peu de temps vers mi-mars/fin mars et j'hésite à visiter alors entre le Laos et le Cambodge.

C'est surtout au niveau de la sécheresse, on m'a dit qu'elle serait très prononcée à cette période et plus au Laos.

Des personnes peuvent-elles m'éclairer pendant cette période ?

Devrions-nous faire: Option 1: Laos -Siem Reap Siem Reap - Sihanoukville - Koh Rong Samloem KohRong Samloem Koh Rong Samloenm - Sihanoukville - Kampot Kampot Kampot - Kep Kampot - Phnom Penh - Canada (départ en avion À 23h45) Option 2: Laos - Phnom-Penh Phnom Penh - Kampot Kampot Kampot - Kep Kep - Île aux lapins Kep - Phnom-Penh Phnom-Penh - Canada Quels sont vos impressions sur ces 2 options? Nous voulons aller à Kampot et Kep. Nous aimerions aussi aller à la plage. Est-ce que l’île aux lapins en vaut la peine?

2e question: devrions-nous réserver (étant donné le temps de l’année) tout de suite: - les avions - autobus - hébergements

3e question concerne la question des visas. Étant donné que nous devrions avoir un visas pour le Cambodge et un pour le Laos, est- ce qu’il y a un avantage à faire les démarches tout de suite sur internet? De plus étant donné que nous allons entrer 2 fois au Cambodge ( une fois Canada-Cambodge et l’autre Laos-cambodge), ;est-ce que cela signifie que nous devons avoir 2 visas par personne?

Days 9, 10, 11: Head north for treks with ethnic minorities Day 12: Head to the Mekong for a cruise After that, I’m not sure whether to return via Chiang Rai or Vientiane to get back to Bangkok. Hello, We’re a family of four with two teens aged 16 and 18. We’re heading to Thailand this summer. We’ll arrive in Bangkok and plan to take a flight to Luang Prabang. I’ve seen there are some great visits and excursions to do (temples, markets, waterfalls) and maybe even venture a bit north to places like Nong Khiaw, Muang Xay, Muang Ngoy, or Oudom Xay. But I’ve also heard about the Bokeo region with the Gibbon Experience. Since we won’t be able to do everything, I’d love to hear about your experiences, impressions, and advice on the two options I’m considering, especially since we’ll be meeting family in Chiang Mai, Thailand, afterward.

Option 1: A loop from Luang Prabang heading slightly north, then a flight from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai.

Option 2: A few days in Luang Prabang, exploring within a few dozen kilometers around, then heading to Bokeo province for the 2-day/1-night Gibbon Experience. For this option, I saw on Rome2Rio that it’s possible to book a ferry trip on the Mekong from Luang Prabang to Huay Xay—they mention about 8 hours. But is that realistic? What type of boat is it? Then, to get to Chiang Mai, there aren’t many options—bus or minivan—but how does crossing the border work?

Finally, for those of you who’ve been to Laos in August, what was the weather like? We’ve already visited Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia during the same period over the past four years and weren’t really bothered by bad weather.

Je souhaiterais aller de la Birmanie au Laos. En sachant que ma dernière destination en Birmanie est Mandalay, quel est le plus judicieux ? J'ai vu qu'il fallait passer par la Thaïlande mais avec plusieurs points : Bangkok ou Chiang Mai. En sachant que je ne veux pas retraverser la Birmanie, afin d'optimiser mon temps, je souhaite partir de Mandalay et idéalement arriver dans un endroit stratégique au Laos pas isolé de tout et où il y a des villes intéressantes à visiter dans les environs.

J'envisage de faire mon premier voyage en solo et j'ai choisi le Cambodge et le Laos. Je pensais faire également le Vietnam mais je me suis vite aperçu que vouloir faire les 3 sans trop courir est un peu prétentieux.

Mon projet d'itinéraire au cambodge: Phnom Penh, Kep/Kampot, Battabang, Siam Reap Au Laos je voudrais le remonter du Sud au Nord : 4000 iles, Pakse et le plateau des Bolavens, Rivière souterraine de Kong Lor, Ventiane, Vang Vieng, Lulang Prabang, Nong Kiaw ou Muang Noi ou Phongsaly. Retour en France au départ de Lulang Prabang Je voudrais rejoindre le sud du Laos par la route via Kratie et Stung Treng

Possible tout ça en 1 mois ? Je voudrais aussi prendre mon temps et savourer chaque endroit.

Lecteur silencieux du forum depuis quelques temps déjà, il est aujourd’hui temps pour moi de solliciter votre aide…

Je vous explique : ma chère et tendre, et moi-même, avons décidé de fuir quelques temps l’agitation parisienne, et prenons 3 mois de repos en Asie du Sud-Est (février – mars – avril). Jusqu’ici, tout va bien : nous souhaitons visiter la Birmanie, le Laos et le Cambodge. Tout en nous laissant suffisamment de temps pour éventuellement ajouter un petit passage à Bali ou aux Philippines.

Pour faire des économies sur le prix des billets d’avion, nous avions d’abord pensé prendre l’aller et le retour par la Birmanie. Mais c’est là que plusieurs problèmes apparaissent :

La frontière terrestre : le passage entre la Birmanie et le Laos semble être une belle épreuve (vol interne, passage long et chaotique par la Thaïlande…). Pourtant nous souhaitons éviter autant que possible d’enchaîner les avions pendant notre voyage… Le visa touristique : malgré de nombreuses recherches, il ne semble pas possible d’obtenir un visa touristique avec 2 entrées, ce qui nous bloque finalement dans l’idée d’arriver, de visiter, de quitter le pays et de revenir y prendre l’avion.

Du coup nous sommes un peu perdus dans nos réflexions… en vrac, voici ce qui tourne dans nos pauvres petites têtes :

Prendre un billet aller-retour Paris / Thaïlande ? Mais cela nous fait perdre un temps fou pour un pays que nous n’avions pas prévu de visiter Prendre un aller sec pour la Birmanie et un retour sec depuis le Cambodge ? Pour le coup c’est le budget qui risque de coincer là Et la frontière dans tout ça ? Nous ne savons toujours pas comment quitter la Birmanie sans encombre. L’avion est-il finalement la meilleure option ?

Si certaines personnes ici ont quelques pistes pour nous accompagner dans notre réflexion, nous sommes vraiment preneurs. Parce que l’option qui consisterait à supprimer la Birmanie du voyage ne nous enchante pas vraiment ! Peut-être d'ailleurs devons-nous revoir l’ordre des pays ? Mais même ainsi, nous ne voyons pas vraiment d’option idéale.

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Hi there, I’m so glad the VoyageForum is back up. Reading 'Montagnard74’s' Laos trip report (which I read yesterday) made me want to share my own (which I already posted a year ago on another forum). Here’s a little recap of our 3 weeks in northern Laos, plus a few days in Vientiane. By the way, we could easily go back to the north—there’s so much to see and do; probably in a few years.

This was our 3rd trip to Laos after having already done:

1st trip in 2012 (3 weeks), a quick overview: Vientiane Vang Vieng Luang Prabang Plain of Jars

2nd trip in 2017 (1 month): Vientiane all the way to the 4,000 Islands via Thakhek, Kong Lor, the Bolaven Plateau, Savannakhet, Pakse...

Our 2023 itinerary (1 month): Vientiane Luang Prabang Muang Ngoi Nong Khiew Luang Namtha Muang Sing Boten Vang Vieng Vientiane

Some general info (2023): For those who’ve already been to Laos: everything has gone up a lot—I think prices have almost doubled for transport, accommodation, meals... everything. But Laos is still a budget-friendly country for us. As a couple, we spent 1,100 € for a month, all included (and we definitely didn’t skimp on massages :)).

Don’t trust the transport signs posted everywhere—at travel agencies, bus terminals, hotels... THEY’RE ALL WRONG (especially the schedules). They haven’t been updated since before Covid.

There are hardly any bikes for rent anymore, but scooters are easy to find everywhere. We switched our mode of transport toward the end of our stay: from bikes to scooters, which let us go farther. In Vientiane, we only saw one bike rental place, near Ong Teu Pagoda.

BCEL bank doesn’t charge a commission on foreign currency exchanges. Using ATMs is expensive due to fees. Outside Laos, Lao kip are basically worthless. There’s so much inflation that I couldn’t find a single bank or exchange office willing to swap the kip we had left. So, don’t exchange too much toward the end of your trip.

Some little tips from our experience (2023): The Muang Koua to Muang Ngoi boat still runs daily. At the dam, you have to get off and take a bus, then get back on the boat.

The boat from Muang Ngoi to Nong Khiew only leaves at 9:30 AM (don’t miss it or you’ll pay a lot for a private boat). From Nong Khiew to Muang Ngoi, there are at least two boats a day.

From Luang Namtha to Muang Sing: 4 to 5 buses a day, the last one leaves around 3:30 PM.

From Luang Namtha or Muang Sing to Nateuy or Boten (to catch the new train): 3 to 5 buses a day.

The new train is really hard to book—it’s often fully booked 48 hours in advance, even the local train (5 hours from Boten to Vientiane instead of 3 hours on the high-speed train). (That makes it tough to travel day by day, which we love... too bad.) For baggage checks: don’t bring anything flammable (sprays...) or sharp. My mosquito repellent (flammable but in a small plastic bottle) got through. Water bottles and a tiny pocketknife are okay. But it seems to depend on the station.

Some guesthouses prefer to be paid in dollars, otherwise the price is much higher.

If you’re entering Laos from Vietnam via Dien Bien Phu, you have to get your visa at the embassy in Hanoi—otherwise, you’ll be refused at the border (no e-visa or visa on arrival).

Apart from Luang Prabang, Vientiane, and Muang Ngoi/Nong Khiew, there are very few tourists.

Boats: LP to Pak Beng: 300,000 kip per person, 1 day LP to Houay Xai: 500,000 kip per person, 2 days LP to Pak Ou: 180,000 kip per person, 5h

Hi, Currently in Laos for one more day, I’d like to share two handy apps for finding a driver. First, InDrive—these are private drivers with their own cars. Then there’s XanhSM, a Vietnamese electric taxi company. I haven’t used it in Laos, but it’s usually the one I use in Saigon.

Nous serons au Laos de mi-juillet à mi-août. Nous avons l'habitude de louer une voiture et de conduire à l'étranger (Indonésie, Bali, Thaïlande, Namibie, Botswana, Mexique, Guatemala...) mais pour ce voyage-ci, nous ne trouvons que très peu d'informations sur la conduite au Laos (mis à part que c'est dangereux et qu'un chauffeur c'est mieux ;O). Nous souhaiterions savoir à quoi ressemble l'itinéraire Luang Prabang-Pakse en voiture : état des routes, type de routes, endroit où dormir sur le trajet, possibilité de faire le plein d'essence et surtout y a-t-il un intérêt à le faire (vie villageoise, paysages...).

Bonjour, Nombreux sont ceux qui comme nous se demandent comment parcourir la boucle de Thakhek sans moto. Voici donc notre retour d'expérience avec les transports locaux. Bien sûr c'est impossible de voir toutes les grottes, mais de toute façon les "looper" avec qui nous avons discuté ne visitaient qu'un ou 2 sites par jour en général. Il faut donc faire des choix 😜 On n'était pas pressés donc on a passé plus de temps que la majorité ; ce qui aide quand on n'a pas de moyen propre de locomotion.

J1: Thakhek- Thallang Nous avons pris un songthaew à la gare routière du km2 (en ville) Départ 8h (8h30 en réalité) arrivée un peu avant 11h, après avoir fait le plein de poissons en route. 50 000 kip/p Nous avons logé au Phosy Gh. Ils ne proposaient pas de tour en bateau. Un peu plus loin nous avons assisté à un beau coucher de soleil.

J3: Thallang- cool pool Vers 11h un songthaew nous a amené à Lak Sao (25kK/p) De Lak Sao un autre songthaew vers Nahin nous a laissé à l'embranchement de Ban Napavan pour 15kK/p. Nous avons marché environ 4km pour aller à cool pool. Endroit vraiment très agréable. Entrée 20kk/p Nous avons dormi en homestay à ban Napavan (60kK/p nuit repas dej)

J4: Napavan- Kong Lor Bus jusqu'à Nahin 20kk/p (vers 9h) Songthaew jusqu'à Kong Lor 25kk/p Nous avons dormi au Kong Lor cave gh pour 70kk.

A Kong Lor il y a des balades sympa à faire. Il y a un topo guide au bureau touristique près de l'embarcadère, mais les distances annoncées sont complètement fausses. Baignades dans la rivière sympa à proximité de la grotte. Il y a possibilité de louer des vtt. Nous avons marché 5km pour aller jusqu'au Spring river resort car on voulait faire du kayak, mais le "lagoon" dont ils se targuent ne nous a pas charmé et les prix étaient assez élevés pour notre budget (50kk/p juste devant l'hôtel et 20$ sur la rivière...)

De Kong Lor il est possible de rejoindre directement thakaek.

J6 Kong Lor- Natan Bateau 65kk/p Homestay Natan 50kk/p (nuit, repas, petit-déjeuner) Il y a des locations de vtt au débarcadère de Natan. Possibilité de faire un parcours balisé dans les villages alentours.

Autre option pour dormir, il y a une autre homestay à Phoun kham (direction natone) 50kk/p, environ 1,5 km du débarcadère.

J7 Natan- Nakaī Depart 8h 50kk/p attention la poussière !

Possibilité de correspondance pour Thakhek 35kk/p Nous avons passé la nuit à Nakaī dans l'espoir de profiter du lac ou d'atteindre l'orchid path. Au nakai resort ils ne proposaient rien de tout ça actuellement 😕 Au sunset resort ils proposaient un tour en bateau pour 400kk, mais ils ne parlaient pas bien anglais et on n'a pas compris à quoi ça correspondait.

Depuis Thakhek possibilité de louer un vtt pour aller à Bouddha cave par exemple.

C'est pas toujours aisé de se déplacer mais on était quand même contents d'avoir fait le tour à notre sauce.
