Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.

- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?

- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)

- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?

- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?

I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!

Je viens de regarder les chiffres du tourisme .Et c'est bien ce que je pensais le nombre de voyageurs/touristes pour la Thailande a explosé .On me dira qu'il y a pas mal de chinois dans le lot.Je me demande si c'est pas comme aller à Noire moutier ou sur la côte d'Azur désormais en pleine été.

Je lis sur le forum que les prix ont explosé .Effet du tourisme de masse ?

Il y a aussi le change 1€ pour 34 baths qui pique.Je suis parti à l'époque des 1€ = 45/50 baths.2005 à 2008 J'ai fais 1 an en tous là bas.

Est ce que vous avez vu une sacrée différence sur la période 2010 jusqu'à maintenant? J'ai l'impression que c'est par tranche...

Avec les reportage tv en Fr, j'ai aussi l'impression que ça a rameuté pas mal de monde. Je suis rentré dans une boutique des jeunes vendeurs parlaient de leurs futurs vacances en Thailande. Il y a 15/20 ans ces jeunes seraient parti sur la côte d'azur , noiremoutier...Alors qu'il y avait des billets pas cher .J'avais payé allé retour 550€ en 2005.

Je pense pas que je retournerai en Thailande car plus le temps que j'avais à 25 ans.Je m'oriente plus vers des endroits ou il y a moins de tourisme de masse, pour l'Asie du Sud Est mais c'est pas au programme pour l'instant.

(Partir en vacances pour retrouver Nanard entrains de se faire gueuler dessus par Ginette .Car Popole commençait à se lever pendant le massage thai. vu à Khao San ou voir Magloire et Momo et mauricette et zoubida "vas y va la baiser c'est toute des putes les thaies!" vu au skytrain etc.Non merci)

J'imagine les gens qui y ont été dans les années 80/90 ça devait vraiment être top.Moi 2005 c'était sympas après j'ai commencé à voir que l'engouement monté.

Après on nous bassine avec la fin du pétrole mais les billets longs trajets sont vraiment pas cher.Je pense que c'est ça aussi qui crame la destination.

Je suis artisan du cuir en France et doit me rendre en thaïlande en famille au mois de février par la même occasion je voudrais savoir si on peu trouver en Thaïlande mais surtout à Bangkok des articles artisanal en pure cuir tel que ceintures, sac à mains, portefeuille, etuis, bracelets... j'ai trouvé une video du bangkok leather market mais c'est assez limité... Si quelqu'un pourrais m'aider ce serais cool pour moi la Thailande n'est pas trop le pays du cuir par rapport à l'inde mais sait on jamais 🙂

Bonjour, je suis un collectionneur de pièces de monnaies et de billets neufs (ni pliés, ni percés) et je sais qu'il existe beaucoup de visuels différents sur les pièces de 10 baths. j'aurai aimé que quelqu'un puisse m'en envoyer par la poste. seulement 5 ou 6 modèles différents. cela représente pas grand chose en valeurs seulement il faut la confiance réciproque et cela n'est guère possible ( on ne se connait pas). Par contre il existe une solution. celui qui pourrait me les envoyer pourrait les poster sur ebay , me communiquer le numéro de la vente par msn et aussitôt moi j'acheterai les 5 ou 6 pieces . comme cela ebay garantie la transaction. il y a beaucoup de visuels différents et pour l'instant j'en ai aucun. il faudrais que les pieces soit en bon état. merci de m'avoir lu

For the past two months, I’ve been checking flight ticket prices to spend 4.5 weeks in Thailand from early July to early August. I’m traveling from Brussels with a young child, so I want to avoid layovers. That’s why I’m only looking at Thai Airways’ website and only choosing direct flights.

At the end of August, I saw tickets for 955 € per person. On October 1st, they were 1,225 €. Today (October 22nd), the price is the same as on October 1st. (Same dates: Departure: July 4th, Return: August 7th.)

My question is: Is it possible these prices will drop significantly in the coming months?

Note: I clear my browser cache before every search, which I always do during the week and in the evening. This time, I also checked with my work computer, which has a VPN. So, the price isn’t influenced by cookies.

We’re heading to Thailand in three weeks and will be in Chiang Rai right during the burning season... Will the stunning road between Chiang Rai and Pai still be beautiful? Even though I don’t practice anymore, I have a Buddhist altar at home that’s becoming increasingly ecumenical—just like in India, it includes Ganesha, the Holy Family, a Virgin of Lourdes, several Shivas, Tara, Avalokiteshvara, and more... I was hoping to buy a beautiful wooden, stone, or metal Buddha statue in Thailand. On top of that, I wanted to have my statue "blessed." But then I heard it’s forbidden to take any statue or representation of Buddha out of the country... What’s the reality in practice? Have any of you brought back a Buddha statue or other representation in your luggage? Did you make the mandatory declaration? Thanks

Well, yes, it'll be me, the one, returning to our travel or vacation site about this destination. A site still imitated, never equaled, and by far.

A country that, when you discover it, charms you. Then comes the time for nostalgia, followed by one or more returns to the Land of Smiles. It's almost inevitable.

It's a real gut punch when you've met and grown fond of locals, only to learn about all the hardships the Covid sequence brought upon them. Broken careers, shattered hopes, disrupted lives.

Like after the tsunami, life and activity have bounced back, sometimes in different forms. Many things haven't changed much: the exchange rate, the quality of the food, the politeness and kindness of the Thai people.

As for us, we've lost members of our VF Thailand community along the way, to whom we pay our respects, but we're now happy to reconnect with both old and new faces. Sometimes in life, it's a chance to start over, forget old worries and squabbles, and be able to exchange thoughts again on one of our favorite topics.

A quick shout-out to Monsieur François Boucher, without whom, as the saying goes, none of this would have been possible. The growing success of VF over the years silences any criticism on that front. He kept his word on both the maintenance and sustainability of the site. Finally, he can be congratulated for his courageous stances during this troubled period, which, in hindsight, we must admit he got right. On a personal note, it did me good to hear voices like his speak up.

Soon, for the Thailand destination and all others, the word Covid will finally stop appearing, and long live the new era!

Le gouverneur du tourisme indique que les touristes internationaux devront attendre le 4eme trimestre pour faire du tourisme en Thaïlande, et encore pas partout. des "bulles touristiques" sont en cours d'identification pour accueillir les étrangers. Pour les locaux ce sera possible dès juin dans des stations comme Hua Hin. Des lieux seront également identifiés pour des longs séjours qui seront fermés pour les étrangers afin de sécuriser les locaux et les vacanciers eux même. L'état d'urgence est prolongé jusqu'a fin juin.

Dans deux heures à minuit heure locale, Phuket sera quasi totalement confinée. Plus de sortie possible par la route ni par bateau, sauf exceptions : ambulance, ravitaillement, etc

Bonjour , j ai reçu un mail de l agence Leclerc voyage aujourd’hui pour me dire que mon voyage prévu pour le 18 avril était annulé ! Suite à ça l agence me propose de reporter mon voyage avant le 31 mars 2021 mais Seulement dans des destinations bien précises (Grèce , Tunisie etc...) si aucune de ces destinations me convient es ce que je peux exiger le remboursement intégral de mon voyage ?? J ai actuellement payer 30% de mon voyage le prélèvement du reste était censé se faire lundi( 40j avant le départ) mais pour l instant rien n a été fait , es ce que le prélèvement des 70% restant est donc annulé ? Bonjour, A l'occasion de notre quinzième voyage en Thaïlande en janvier, nous aimerions rapporter un ou plusieurs de ces petits personnages ou animaux marrants qui décorent les jardins en Thaïlande. Je crains que çà soit lourd...mais en bagage à main çà passerait peut-être. Donc je me demande où acheter çà. Je ne vais pas dans le nord cette année mais au sud de Trang, à PKK et à Bangkok. Je pense qu'on doit trouver à Chatuchak où je n'ai pas mis les pieds depuis très longtemps. Si quelqu'un avait un plan récent du marché nous permettant de trouver la zone qui nous intéresse, çà me serait bien utile, ou un autre conseil sur les endroits où acheter les "nains de jardins" locaux ? Where can we find accommodation close to a pretty beach that's not too touristy but not isolated either, near a small town or village? We've already been to Surin Beach on Phuket Island. Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

PHIMAI (Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat) (5 days/6 nights): Phimai – Prasat Muang Tam – Phanom Rung – Prasat Phanom Wan

Phimai -> Khorat (airport or train station) -> Bangkok (overnight in Bangkok)

Bonjour, Confinement oblige, j'essaie d'organiser tranquillement mes vacances de l'année prochaine (et oui faut bien s'occuper!). Nous aimerions faire la Thaïlande car par un gros budget mais envie de rêver. Nous avons prévu de partir 15 jours en mars en arrivant à Bangkok, y rester 2 jours puis faire 1 île et revenir sur Bangkok encore 2 jours. Je précise que nous serons 2 adultes et 1 enfant de 5 ans. J'ai fais beaucoup de recherches et je n'arrive pas à me décider sur une île ! Nous aimerions ne pas être gêné par une musique assourdissante, des plages magnifiques mais aussi faire des visites car pas la peine de faire tout ce voyage si c'est juste pour glandouiller sur la plage... Voyageant avec un enfant l'idéal serait de pas trop galerer afin d'accéder à cette île! Je sais j'en demande beaucoup mais il doit bien y avoir une île qui regroupe la plupart de ces critères ! Du coup je voudrais bien un peu d'aide s'il vous plaît 🤗

Mais Avec ma nouvelle sim thailansaise puis je appeler et envoyer Sms en France sans surcoût pour moi et mes contacts ? Je ne pourrais pas me servir de ma carte sim orange pour emettre des appels mais puis je recevoir des appels et Sms ? Si oui avec surcoût pour moi et mon appelant ?
