Lecteur silencieux du forum depuis quelques temps déjà, il est aujourd’hui temps pour moi de solliciter votre aide…

Je vous explique : ma chère et tendre, et moi-même, avons décidé de fuir quelques temps l’agitation parisienne, et prenons 3 mois de repos en Asie du Sud-Est (février – mars – avril). Jusqu’ici, tout va bien : nous souhaitons visiter la Birmanie, le Laos et le Cambodge. Tout en nous laissant suffisamment de temps pour éventuellement ajouter un petit passage à Bali ou aux Philippines.

Pour faire des économies sur le prix des billets d’avion, nous avions d’abord pensé prendre l’aller et le retour par la Birmanie. Mais c’est là que plusieurs problèmes apparaissent :

La frontière terrestre : le passage entre la Birmanie et le Laos semble être une belle épreuve (vol interne, passage long et chaotique par la Thaïlande…). Pourtant nous souhaitons éviter autant que possible d’enchaîner les avions pendant notre voyage… Le visa touristique : malgré de nombreuses recherches, il ne semble pas possible d’obtenir un visa touristique avec 2 entrées, ce qui nous bloque finalement dans l’idée d’arriver, de visiter, de quitter le pays et de revenir y prendre l’avion.

Du coup nous sommes un peu perdus dans nos réflexions… en vrac, voici ce qui tourne dans nos pauvres petites têtes :

Prendre un billet aller-retour Paris / Thaïlande ? Mais cela nous fait perdre un temps fou pour un pays que nous n’avions pas prévu de visiter Prendre un aller sec pour la Birmanie et un retour sec depuis le Cambodge ? Pour le coup c’est le budget qui risque de coincer là Et la frontière dans tout ça ? Nous ne savons toujours pas comment quitter la Birmanie sans encombre. L’avion est-il finalement la meilleure option ?

Si certaines personnes ici ont quelques pistes pour nous accompagner dans notre réflexion, nous sommes vraiment preneurs. Parce que l’option qui consisterait à supprimer la Birmanie du voyage ne nous enchante pas vraiment ! Peut-être d'ailleurs devons-nous revoir l’ordre des pays ? Mais même ainsi, nous ne voyons pas vraiment d’option idéale.

Bonjour, nous partons le 22/12 /2019 pour 18jours au Cambodge . Voici le circuit que j'ai crée et j'aimerai avoir votre avis sachant que nous arrivons et repartons de Phnom Penh (PP) PP : 2 nuits, visite des marchés et des pagodes. Savez vous si la messe de Noël est célébrée et si oui , dans quelle église? (je n'ai rien trouvé sur ce sujet sur internet) Kompong Cham: 2 nuits, peut être prendre un guide avec tuk tuk pour visiter la ville et les villages environnants, louer un vélo pour se rendre sur l'ile de Koh Pen Kompong Thom: 2 nuits, visite des villages environnants. Kampong Phluk ? pour être au bord du Tolé Sap. Siem REap: 4 nuits, visites des temples d'Ankor et de la ville. Puis prendre le bateau jusqu'à Battambang : 8 h de bateau Battambang: 2 nuits , visite de la ville. Puis bus jusquà Kep ou alors faire une escale dans une ville entre Batttambang et PP ? A kep : louer une vespa et se ballader , Puis Kampot: louer une vespa, visiter une ferme de poivre Aller sur une ile? retour sur PP voilà plus ou moins notre périple . Le nombre de nuits n'est pas fixe. Pensez vous que c'est jouable en 18jours ou bien est ce trop fatiguant? Avez vous d'autres propositions? En arrivant à PP quel est le transport le plus adapté pour se rendre en ville? J'ai lu que le train était gratuit. Merci par avance pour vos conseils.

Je pars avec des amis 12 jours au Cambodge au mois de janvier, et nous allons passer rapidement Phnom Penh, visiter Siem Reap (3j) et aller sur la cote pendant 4 jours. J'aimerais bien faire un petit tour dans une ville afin de voir un peu de campagne, pourquoi pas faire des petites randonnées, si possible dans des coins authentiques.

J'hésite entre aller 3 jours soit à Battambang ou soit à Kampong Cham. Quel coin me conseillez-vous ? Ce serait plutôt pour des visites de lieux culturels, voir de beaux paysages et trouver des villages avec des gens sympas.

Nous voulons aller à Kampot et Kep. Nous aimerions aussi aller à la plage. Est-ce que l’île aux lapins en vaut la peine?

2e question: devrions-nous réserver (étant donné le temps de l’année) tout de suite: - les avions - autobus - hébergements

3e question concerne la question des visas. Étant donné que nous devrions avoir un visas pour le Cambodge et un pour le Laos, est- ce qu’il y a un avantage à faire les démarches tout de suite sur internet? De plus étant donné que nous allons entrer 2 fois au Cambodge ( une fois Canada-Cambodge et l’autre Laos-cambodge), ;est-ce que cela signifie que nous devons avoir 2 visas par personne?

It’s all in the title. I’m starting to think about my destination for summer 2026, and Cambodia is currently at the top of my list. Among the spots frequently mentioned for a 2- or 3-week trip to Cambodia, Battambang comes up often. However, so far, I haven’t found any truly remarkable features that would justify spending 2 or 3 days (including travel and visits) in this city during a 3-week stay, especially since I’m primarily looking for stunning photography spots—whether natural landscapes, urban scenes, or architecture. Where can I find some enlightening documentation on Battambang to help shift my perspective? Sorry for exposing my ignorance about this city like this, but all the photos I’ve seen online and the travel journals I’ve read don’t really showcase what makes it appealing, even though the descriptions suggest it’s very charming.

Bonjour, Hier matin pris à 07.30 am Bayon vip bus (aussi appelée Golden Bayon) de PP à Sihanoukville. Billet acheté la veille à leur bureau derrière le marché central. Siège solo n°11 réservé à l'achat) Ai choisi cet horaire car plus pratique pour arriver fin de matinée et parce qu'ils m'ont dit qu'à cet horaire, c'était les petits minibus (comme sur la photo) Y être pour 07h15.Prix 11 USD Partie à l'heure et arrivée 12h15 (le trafic était fluide) avec 2 arrêts pour toilettes ou snacks, un de 10 mns, l'autre de 20 mns) soit 4h45 de trajet total. Confortable. Bon conducteur. Clim. Parfait Leur bureau arrivée à Sihanoukville est sur une grande place, pratique, car à 10 mns à pied de l'embarcadère. A l'embarcadère, acheté billet one way 12 $ pour Samloen (Saracen Bay) avec C. T. V. G (voir photo ). N'ai pas voulu prendre l'aller retour revenant un peu moins cher au cas où je veuille utiliser une autre Cie au retour, selon les horaires) Bateau environ 30 passagers, rapide, 30 mns. Arrivée 14h30 CONCLUSION Très satisfaite de ces 2 Cies HEBERGEMENT Onederz Hostel (voir leur site Web, ils ont plusieurs GH sur la région, dont PP) à 8 mns de la jetée. Très satisfait de ce choix, car bord de très belle plage, convivial, beaucoup d'endroits où buller dans des hamacs ou autre, restaurant bon et pas cher (4$plat copieux), bar (bière 0,75$), wifi parfaite, dortoirs ou chambres, billard, bonne ambiance. Résa par leur site ou Agoda). A partir de 7 $/nuit JE RECOMMANDE CES TROIS PRESTATAIRES Bonne journée

Afin d'être libre de nos mouvements et s'éviter les trajets en tuk-tuk de/vers Angkor (et bénéficier d'un peu de clim 😛), on imagine prendre un véhicule avec chauffeur durant nos 3 jours sur place.

Savez-vous combien ca pourrait nous coûter pour 3 jours ? J'imaginais demander un contact à mon hotel : bon plan ?

Hi everyone! I’ve booked flights to Phnom Penh for August 26 (no layover in the Emirates as a precaution...). We arrive on Sunday, August 2 in the morning and leave on August 19 around 9 PM (also from Phnom Penh). We’re a couple traveling with three kids aged 9 to 16. Among the many questions I have about our itinerary, a few are standing out: If we arrive in Phnom Penh exhausted, I imagine we’ll need to stay one night there before heading to Siem Reap... but how much time should we spend there to enjoy Angkor in good conditions? Then, Mondulkiri or Battambang? (Because I don’t want it to be a total rush, changing accommodation every two days and praying that bus transfers or private drivers go as planned...). Where does Tonlé Sap Lake fit into all this? And if we end with a beach stay: is Koh Rong a must, or is there another spot? Also, what about the return logistics: should we spend the night before our flight in Phnom Penh to be safe... or do we do everything on August 19... like taking a boat and then the road from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, risking missing our flight if anything goes wrong? Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

I really loved Thailand, but it was too touristy for my taste. So I'm hesitating about going back and wondering if Cambodia or Vietnam would be less crowded with tourists...

We got back enchanted from a 6-week trip to Cambodia! Our itinerary: Kampot - Kampong Chhnang - Battambang - Siem Reap - Kampong Cham - Sen Monorom (Mondulkiri) - Banlung (Ratanakiri) - Kratie - Kampong Thom - Phnom Penh. We traveled by bus, minivan, boat (between Battambang and Siem Reap), overnight bus, scooter, tuk-tuk, and rickshaw for shorter distances. We stayed in guesthouses, homestays, and even in the jungle during a trek. While the Angkor temples are fabulous, it’s the people you should visit Cambodia for—the "Land of Smiles" truly lives up to its nickname! Tourists gather in Angkor but are quite rare elsewhere, even though the country is easy to travel around. I won’t describe our trip in detail but instead highlight a few favorite moments. From Kampot, don’t hesitate to head out around 6 AM to see the fishermen return and their wives selling their catch (just 10 minutes away by the coast). Guaranteed picturesque! In Battambang, known for its food scene, we discovered a cooking class with Smokin’ Pot (authentic Khmer cooking class). They pick you up from your guesthouse to shop for ingredients (we made fish amok and beef lok lak) at their village market, then cook and eat together. A private class—just the two of us! They also send the recipes via WhatsApp as a PDF. +855 12 821 400 In Siem Reap, I can recommend a francophone tuk-tuk driver who was very attentive to our wishes. We visited tourist spots but also more remote villages and local grilled-pork restaurants with him. We did a 2-day, 1-night trek in Mondulkiri. Don’t expect a super dense jungle—it looks more like a forest similar to ours. But Nara, our Bunong ethnic guide, made the experience adventurous and ultimately very immersive! WhatsApp +855 86 630 489 Bee Bee’s Chalets homestay: If you pass through Banlung in Ratanakiri, we *loved* this family and their budget-friendly bungalows. Playing Uno, enjoying Nita’s cooking (ask for her fish amok—amazing!), it was a true homestay experience! Contact Nita on WhatsApp: +855 88 818 5525. In Kratie, rent a scooter and follow the Mekong north for 40 km at your own pace. Being so close to the locals was a treat! Same goes for heading south if you have time. Kampong Thom: Head 25 km out to visit the pre-Angkorian temples of Sambor Prei Kuk. Around a hundred monuments spread across three sites… and hardly anyone there!

A few practical tips: Though prices are often listed in dollars, you can always pay in riels (1 USD = 4000 riels), which is what we preferred. PassApp: An app to book tuk-tuks or rickshaws (and most importantly, know the price upfront). Virak Buntham: A bus company connecting several cities, bookable online.

Voilà l'itinéraire approximatif. Sachant qu'on est désireux de varier ce que l'on va voir et faire, on aime beaucoup la nature les paysages les randos, on voudrait voir des animaux aussi, mais on aime également très bien manger haha donc les endroits avec une bonne gastronomie locale sont très importants.

Est ce que cet itinéraire semble cohérent ? Est ce que je manque des endroits inmanquables ? Est ce qu'il n'y a pas trop de ville sur la fin ? Dalat + Hoi an + hue + Hanoi, en + sachant qu'il ne fait pas très beau au nord en février ? Que modifieriez vous en somme ? Par exemple j'ai entendu de bonnes choses sur la région de mondolkiri au Cambodge niveau nature et paysages... Mais je suis ouvert à toute suggestion !

I saw that by plane it takes 3h30 with a layover in Siem Reap, so no thanks—I was thinking of taking the bus. How much time should I allow between leaving Koh Rong Island by ferry and then the bus, so I can plan my return to France? Or is a taxi an option? Thanks for your tips!

After reading and researching, we're planning the following stops in Cambodia in January 2027: - Phnom Penh - Kampong Cham - Kratie - Siem Reap - Battambang - Kampot (round trip)

I'm wondering about the direction of these stops, which could also influence our international flights. Either a round trip from Phnom Penh in the order above. Or landing in Siem Reap with the following order:

- Battambang (round trip) - Siem Reap / Angkor - Kratie - Kampong Cham - Phnom Penh - Kampot (round trip)

This second option would save us the Battambang - PP - Kampot trip but means doing a round trip to Battambang from Siem Reap and placing the "highlight of the trip" (Angkor) at the beginning of our stay.

We’ll be arriving in Phnom Penh this coming January and we’re thinking of starting our trip with a stop in Kampong Cham, then Kratie.

After Kratie, we’re considering heading toward Siem Reap with a stop in Kampong Thom.

That said, I’m not really sure how long the Kratie–Kampong Thom journey might take or how complicated it is.

Does this stop on the way to Siem Reap seem like a good idea to you? If we don’t visit the Sambor Prei Kuk site, are there still any walks or sights worth checking out in Kampong Thom?

Hello, I’m starting to plan my adventure in Cambodia. I’ve read a lot of your posts and really appreciate all your articles. Now it’s my turn to share my plans with you: 12/01 arrival in PP 13/01 arrival in SR where I’ll meet up with 2 friends for 6 days exploring the temples and surrounding areas 19/01 I’ll leave and finish the trip solo. I fly back on 29/01 at 8 PM, so I’ve got 10 days for a little immersion. The dilemma is whether to: # head to Battambang, then make my way to PP, Kampot, and 2 nights by the sea # go to Kratie and head down to Kampot with 2 nights by the sea (or, to cut down on kilometers, go via Kampong Cham to Kampot). Option 2 is my preference. I’m almost 70 and not too keen on rushing 😅 Thanks in advance for your time and any helpful tips! Françoise

I’m heading back to Cambodia in a few weeks and had a couple of questions:

1/ the new airport Does anyone have info on the average tuk-tuk fare? From the old one, we’d usually pay between $7 and $10. Are we looking at the same range? It seems a bit farther, so maybe a little pricier. If you’ve got a rough idea of the time (always better to budget extra), I’m guessing around an hour?

2/ access to Preah Vihear temple I haven’t been back in a few years, but I was thinking of revisiting it this year. Given the border troubles, is access still allowed at the moment?

Hi there, We’re heading to Cambodia for 15 days in February 2026. We’ll spend 3 nights in Siem Reap for the Angkor temples, then check out the floating markets. I’d love to know if Battambang is worth the detour. If so, we’re thinking of taking a ferry across the lake, staying one night, and then flying to the islands for the second week. Idea for a 15-day itinerary in Cambodia... - 3 nights in Phnom Penh, arriving at 6:30 PM. (2 days to explore the city). - 2 nights in Battambang - 4 or 5 nights in Siem Reap (2 days for Angkor, 1 day for Kulen, 1 day for Tonlé Sap Lake) - 2 nights in Kampot - 2 nights on Koh Rong.
