Nous voyageons avec 2 enfants qui auront l'été prochain (juillet-août 2020) 2 ans 1/2 et 4 ans 1/2, je m'interroge sur la possibilité d'un voyage en Indonésie. Ceux-ci sont habitués aux voyages et aux sacs porteurs. Je souhaite éviter Java et Bali - nous avons peur du monde, nous sommes du style ermites et apprécions surtout la nature et les beaux paysages, aimons randonner même si nous avons dû ralentir le rythme depuis que 2 écureuils nous suivent. Nous aimerions éviter les longs déplacements d'autant que possible, même si je suis conscient qu'il y en aura un peu.

Mes questions, sur 3 ou 4 semaines de voyage, est-il possible d'envisager à un rythme doux (siestes obligent) un séjour sur Lombok - Gili (mon idée de départ) ou sur Sumatra (plus je lis des choses sur Sumatra, plus ça me tente) ou d'autres îles comme Florès - Komodo (peut-être moins pratique) ? Niveau santé il ne me semble pas y avoir de très gros risques sanitaires mais qu'est-il faisable en cas de problème de santé des enfants ?

I’m planning a trip to Indonesia between June and August 2025. I’ll be traveling solo with my two daughters, ages 9 and 13, for 7 weeks, and then solo without them for another 3 weeks.

This trip has a special meaning for me—I’ve got a break between my soon-to-be former job and launching my business. It’s my first big solo trip outside Europe with just my girls, and I’m heading to Indonesia because I’ve dreamed of discovering Bali since I was 12 (though I’m *terrified* of mass tourism!). Also, five years ago, I decided to limit myself to one flight every 10 years—this is my "big 40" trip, and it’s really important to me. I’ll probably never return to Indonesia after this.

Beyond that, I’d love to immerse myself in Balinese culture. For the rest of the trip, I’m especially drawn to nature and its grandeur. Basically, outside of Bali, I’d love to see breathtaking natural landscapes that are totally different from what I can find in Europe. I’d also love to spot some endemic wildlife (which my girls would find exciting too!). And if I can squeeze in a few "chill" days to just relax or go snorkeling in a nice, quiet spot, I’m all for it.

I’d love your advice, especially since I’d like to start in Bali (we’re arriving around June 20th—I’m hoping to avoid the peak tourist crowds from the Northern Hemisphere summer break).

Hi there, we're planning our vacation in Indonesia. We're a family with two kids aged 11 and 14. We leave on July 26th and return on August 17th, 2026.

We initially planned to visit Bali, Komodo, and Flores, but after looking into it more, we came across Sumatra, which is less touristy... a real plus for us. However, skipping Bali might be a shame.

I was wondering if spending 12 days in Sumatra and finishing with about 7 days in Bali is a doable plan.

So, what to choose between Lombok, Sulawesi, Flores, and Sumatra for a month? Which island is the most beach and snorkeling-focused based on your experience? We’re a family with two kids who’ll be 3½ and 6½ years old at the time of the trip. We live in the city, and the little ones aren’t big hikers in nature, but they’re pretty cool with transportation. Travel month: May 2026 for 3 weeks (round trip) What we’re looking for: a relaxed trip combining nature, culture, beautiful beaches with snorkeling, and sunshine! We want to take our time with the kids and avoid driving 6 hours every couple of days. We’ve traveled as a couple before but not much with the kids (in Europe, by car).

Choices: I ruled out Mexico for various reasons. I’d also dismissed Indonesia because it seemed more tiring with kids in terms of transportation, but it’s back in my top 2 now! 😊 I also crossed off Sri Lanka because of the monsoon on the west coast in May. So, I’m left with Malaysia (KL-Malacca-Selangor-Borneo Sabah-Perhentian Islands area) or Java (Yogyakarta-Bromo-Karimunjawa Islands)... This list isn’t exhaustive—just some rough ideas.

Budget-wise, we’d like to stay in small hotels with pools for under 100 € in cities, but no need for a pool at the beach. Thanks in advance for your tips! Hélène

As part of a four-month world trip with our kids (ages 6, 12, and 13), we’ll be spending four weeks in Indonesia. Choosing destinations is so tough because everything is just so appealing! We’ll be spending some time on Java and will likely make a "quick trip" to Borneo for the orangutan reserve. We also want to experience Bali’s culture and the small islands of the Lesser Sundas, with their incredible marine life... but which ones should we prioritize? For a few days of diving and relaxation, do you think we should go for Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands, or Moyo Island? Is Sumbawa complicated to explore? Is it worth taking the time to visit? Can it be crossed by car to then reach Komodo National Park? Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Our goal is to avoid overly touristy spots (but not places that feel too unsafe with the kids), to discover local culture and villages, and to be amazed both underwater and above. I’m planning my first trip to Asia next summer with my partner and our daughter, who’ll be 3 and a half at the time, for 4 weeks (maybe 5).

I’ve heard that the timing is better for visiting Indonesia, but I’m hesitant because Thailand seems more accessible, and I’m worried that traveling to Indonesia during high season might be less enjoyable and a lot more expensive due to the number of tourists. We love cultural sites as much as natural ones, and we’re big foodies. We’re not necessarily looking for luxury and tend to take our time, travel by public transport, and look for accommodations with a good value for money—though we do occasionally splurge on a high-end restaurant.

I’m also wondering when and where to buy flight tickets and how comfortable the journey will be (especially for our daughter) if we fly with Thai Airways or Garuda.

En cours de réflexion pour un voyage à Sumatra seule avec mon fils âge de 8 ans, je fais appel aux bonnes volontés qui voudront bien m aiguiller un peu. Je vous indique d'abord l'itinéraire projeté sur un peu moins de 3 semaines car je passerai les 2 premières nuits à Bangkok. Arrivée Medan puis 2 nuits Tangkahan (Est-ce pertinent? Ce lieu ne s'apparente-t-il pas à un zoo? ) Par expérience, je ne supporte pas les animaux "déprimés" et mis en scène.

4 nuits à Bukit Lawang dont 2 nuits dans un hébergement au coeur de la jungle, trek à la journée. ( Je lis sur les forums qu'il y aurait beaucoup de monde à BL surtout le week end, raison pour laquelle je commence par Tangkahan.... Votre expérience?)

2 nuits à Brestagi pour le volcan

4 nuits au Lac Toba

vol Medan à Bandah Aceh pour rejoindre l'ile en face ( je ne me souviens pas le nom) pour le reste du séjour ( est ce mieux de prendre son propre matériel de snorkelling?)

Par ailleurs, je compte prendre des taxis privés ou partagés. Ces taxis sont ils disponibles à la descente de l'avion? Dois je réserver mes hébergements en avance? Les scooters en location ( 125 cm? prix?)

Nous partons un mois cet été avec nos deux enfants de 4 et 6 ans. Nous sommes en train de réfléchir à l'itinéraire afin de réserver quelques hébergements et transports.

Voici l'itinéraire pour l'instant :

Java : 1)Yoggayarta avec Borobudur et Prambanan 2) l’archipel des Karimunjawa 3) le Bromo Nous hésitions aussi à un crochet par la "green valley" à Pangandaran. Un peu compliqué niveau transport, est-ce que "ça vaut" vraiment le détour et est-ce adapté aux enfants?

Bali : L'ordre n'est pas défini mais nous aimerions aller à : 1) Munduk 2) Ubud 3) Gili Air ou Nusa Lembongan ? 4) Amed ou Lovina ou Permuteran et la réserve de Pulau Menjangan ?

Pour ces deux derniers, que nous conseillez-vous avec des enfants en terme d’intérêts et d’activités accessibles pour eux ?

Si vous avez d'autres coups de coeur à nous conseillez avec les enfants, on est preneur.

Hi there, I’m really sorry if this question has already been asked several times—I’ve been scouring blogs, forums, and various sites for a while now, but I still have some more specific questions for our trip...

First off, we’re a family of four with two kids aged 10 and 14. We’ve already been to Thailand and Laos five times with them (each trip lasting a month or six weeks), and we’re huge Thailand lovers, but this year we’d like to discover Indonesia, which we don’t know at all (for a duration of 4 or 5 weeks between late June and late July). We travel pretty "roots" style with a budget of 100 € per day and avoid touristy areas as much as possible. We get around using local transport, rent scooters, and take our time (for a one-month trip, we usually visit 4 destinations to really soak it in). So here are my upcoming questions:

For a first visit, I wanted to focus on a single island—Lombok—by taking a flight from Paris to Denpasar and then a boat to Lombok. Do you think the following route would work? - Kuta Lombok - Gili Gede - Gili Meno - Tetebatu

I saw there’s a local boat to Lombok—has anyone here taken it before? For those who’ve been there during this period, do you know if Gili Meno and Gili Gede get crowded, or should we focus more on the coasts? To get between these spots, are there buses, or do we need to take private taxis? As for accommodations, we’re used to booking triple rooms for all four of us in Thailand. For those who travel with kids, do you know if that’s doable in Indonesia, or should we book two double rooms instead?

Last (slightly silly) question: We want to go to Indonesia because our son dreams of seeing beautiful marine life while snorkeling—I think Lombok is a good choice for that. But my daughter is a huge fan of those "knick-knack" markets full of Chinese trinkets that you find all over Thailand. Do you know if Lombok has any day or night markets where we could go?

After letting our backpacks gather dust for several years, we’ve decided to set off on another adventure—this time as a family, with our 10- and 12-year-old kids! We’re planning a trip from mid-June to the end of July, with two stops: Cambodia (2 weeks) and Indonesia (4 weeks). But before diving into the details, we’ve got quite a few questions and doubts.

About Cambodia: We know this period is the rainy season. Is it really a good idea to go then? And if so, is it better to start with Cambodia and then move on to Indonesia, or does the order not matter from a climate perspective? Here are the activities and sites we’ve shortlisted: · The Mekong and Irrawaddy dolphins: do we actually have a chance of seeing them? · The Mondulkiri Project (elephant sanctuary): is this an ethical project? We want to avoid any form of animal exploitation. · The temples of Angkor: are 2 or 3 days enough to fully enjoy them? · Floating villages: where should we go for an authentic experience? Is it possible to spend the night there? · Hikes with waterfalls, lakes, etc.: are there any must-do treks? · And most importantly, what activities or sites would appeal to kids?

For Indonesia: We were there 15 years ago and loved our itinerary: Yogyakarta / Borobudur → Bromo → Kawah Ijen → Bali → Gili Trawangan. This time, we’re torn: · Retracing part of that route to share it with our kids (even if revisiting the same places isn’t super appealing), · Or exploring new regions. What’s almost certain is that we’d like to spend about two weeks in Raja Ampat. For the other two weeks, we’re undecided. We’re looking for kid-friendly ideas for places and activities, while avoiding too many connections for budget and environmental reasons. Since we’ll already see temples in Cambodia, we’d like to mix things up.

And finally… On our last trip to the region, we traveled without kids and went super free-spirited: only the round-trip tickets were booked, and we improvised the rest day by day without any major issues finding accommodation, food, or accessing the activities we’d spotted. Do you think this style of travel is still doable with two kids? Or has it become too risky or stressful? Are there regions where the "backpacker" approach is still possible, and others where it’s better to book in advance? And for certain activities or sites, is it recommended to hire guides?

Bonjour Cela fait plusieurs années que je consulte des infos et retour de voyage et n'ai toujours pas fait de CR, par manque de temps et d'inspiration. J'ai un peu de mal à faire ressentir un voyage. Le voyage , je le vis et ne sais pas trop en faire profiter;j'ai l'impression que ça gave les gens de raconter SES vacances ou SON voyage, chacun le vivra differemment. Neanmoins je vais vous faire un petit CR, et surtout, n'hesitez pas à demander, ce sera court. Donc 15 jours à Bali, du 23 fevrier au 9 mars 2020:

Billets avion:Bordeaux-Denpasar :525 euro par swiss , lufthansa, jetstar, singapore airlines, autrement dit, courte escale à Zurich et singapore à l'aller et courte escale egalement à singapore et franckfurt au retour.

Je suis parti avec mes enfants de 8 et 12 ans et avons choisi plusieurs point de chute:

-Villa ganesh and bungalows(65 euros la nuit): 4 nuits à ungasan dans la peninsule de Bukit, super logement et pas très cher Le sud est l'autoroute du tourisme à Bali, c'est sympa 2 ou 3 jours , mais après c'est too much!! Trop de tout , hotel resto en tout genre, magasin en tout genre, la grosse société de consommation, mais quelques plages sont sympas padang padang, pas grand mais convivial!

-Ubud:2 nuits Bali culture guesthouse à Bedulu (55 euros la nuit), situé à l'ecart d'ubud(6 ou 7 km)mais genial, personnes très sympas et arrangeantes pour tout. Super resto à proximité, le yeh pulu. L'environnement exterieur d'Ubud est chouette, mais la ville est un gros supermarché!!

La route par Sidemen entre Ubud et Amed au plus près du volcan est magnifique.

-Amed:3 nuits au Bali dream house(60 euros la nuit)à Bunutan , beau logement Je ne connaissais pas amed, j'ai trouvé ça pas mal mais rien d'extraordinaire, Par contre les alentours peuvent reserver des surprise! La route qui part au sur d'amed vers le sud , le long de la côte, est extraordinaire de decouverte!!

-Pemutaran:4 nuits à amertha villa(115 euros la nuit) En gros, c'est une villa avec piscine, dans un petit complexe hotelier d'une 15aine de villa , pour le prix d'un mobil-home. La partie nord est l'endroit que nous avons preferé.

-Menjangan : superbe snorkelling (et mon fils de 12 ans a commencé la plongée )

-Route entre seririt au nord et munduk, puis vers le lac bratan. Le debut de la route est FANTASTIQUE, à peine croyable quand on commence le sejour dans le sud. Nous avons relié ces differents endroits en voiture de location, petite jimmy suzuki un peu pourrie mais j'en étais conscient avant de la louer(à 10 euros par jour, je ne m'attendais pas à avoir une voiture neuve) J'avais dejà conduit plusieurs fois en Thailande et un peu à Bali.C'est sportif mais largement realisable, en fait je me suis vraiment eclaté. C'est comme dans Mario Bros mais sans les bananes!! Les enfants ont adoré:- tirta gangga(merci Biboun), c'est ludique et historique!! - Menjangan -les rizières aux alentours de Sidemen -Les routes sinueuses et l'agitation que cela crée! Vous en conviendrez, les logements ne sont pas les meilleurs marchés.Mais quand on voit le prix des restos, on se dit que la difference passera dans le confort.

Alors oui, j'ai bien aimé Bali mais cela a fait un gros contraste après mon 1er sejour en 2006!! Nous y retournerons surement mais uniquement dans la partie nord qui est , à mon goût, beaucoup plus interessante que le sud.

Nous partons en famille avec nos 2 enfants de 8 et 10 ans cet été en Indonésie. Nous avons déjà réservé nos billets (Jakarta). Nous avons 20 jours sur place et hésitons beaucoup entre les 3 destinations ci-dessous : - Sulawesi Nord - Sulawesi Sud - Java/Flores

Nous souhaitons éviter de faire beaucoup de route ; nous aimons la plage, le snorkeling, la plongée sous-marine, les sites naturels, le surf, le dépaysement, les rencontres avec la population, les balades, la jungle, les animaux. Nous attendrons que nos enfants grandisent pour la partie culturelle (temple, etc). Mais nous ne sommes pas fermés à quelques visites incontournables bien sur.

Voila, si vous pouvez m'apporter vos témoignages, cela m'aidera sans aucun doute à choisir notre destination.

Notre vol arrivera à Jakarta et j’avoue être complètement perdue sur les lieux à privilégier dans mon programme, il y a tellement de choses à voir! Ma première question porte sur le logement, mon mari déteste changer d’hôtel pendant un voyage, connaissant cette contrainte est il selon vous possible de rayonner depuis un voire deux points de chute? Si vous avez des suggestions je suis preneuse car dans tout ce que j’ai pu lire de récits de voyages, les gens changeaient d’endroits tous les 2-5jours... La deuxième question concerne le programme en tant que tel afin d’alterner visites culturelles et farniente à la plage afin que les enfants puissent nager à la recherche de poissons. Merci de votre aide, elle sera fortement appréciée!

Nous revenons de 15 jours (08/2019) sur les îles de Java et Bali, nous étions 7 adultes et 6 enfants de 5 à 11 ans, séjour organisé à notre demande avant notre départ par Nivori (voici son contact WhatsApp Nivori + 62 812-9639-223) super guide francophone qui ne se lasse jamais de nous parler de son pays. Il a su s’adapter à nos envies, il a cherché à faire plaisir aux grands comme aux petits et y a réussi à merveille, une patience d’or. Grâce à lui notre voyage a été de découvertes en découvertes, Nivo est très ouvert, c’est un guide très cultivé avec qui nous avons pu partager de nombreux sujets.

Afin de voir si notre projet voyage serait réalisable et conviendrait à notre famille, je recherche des idées de location de maison ou autre à Bali pour notre famille de 5 personnes. (3 enfants)

Nous aimons le calme mais quand même avoir la possibilité de se déplacer seul à pied pour manger par exemple. A moins d’avoir comme je l’ai lu un logement avec cuisinière et chauffeur?! Mais je pense que le prix est alors très élevé.

Avez-vous des bonnes adresses et lieu à me recommander? Sachant que nous aimerions fuir au maximum le côté (arnaques, piège à touriste, ...) comme j’ai pu le lire à beaucoup de place et que nos vacances se feront en octobre. (A partir du 19 pour 15jours)

Any recommendations for itineraries, transport, where to stay, or activities (especially diving—if you know of any reliable dive centers)? Nous somme un couple avec un bebe de 2 ans. Comment ce déplacer sur l île. Possibilité de loue 4x4 ? Quoi faire, quoi voir. Si il y a un Village où séjourner. Nous allons 1 semaine à Amed en arrivant, ensuite 3 nuits à Ubud et pour finir 1 semaine à Seminyak. Nous comptons alterner visite (1 jour sur 2) et repos (nous n’avons louer que des villas où nous serons tous ensemble) Nous sommes déjà allé à Bali avec mon mari et nous nous étions peu déplacé à l’epoque car étant enceinte, c’etait plus un voyage détente.... nous avions pris à l’epoque des voitures avec chauffeurs. Seulement là nous serons 10 et je me demande ce qui serait le mieux? Louer un véhicule pour 10? Mais je pense que ce sera la galère pour circuler vu l’etat Des routes! Louer 2 voitures....? Où circuler avec des chauffeurs mais va t-on trouver facilement et simultanément 2 chauffeurs pour tout le monde? Ne va t-on pas perdre trop de temps? Quelqu’un a t-il déjà été dans cette situation? Hi there, We’re planning a solid six-week trip (July/August) to Sulawesi with our two kids, aged 5 and 7. I’ve been browsing various forums and have a lot of questions:

Can we "improvise"? We love traveling without planning every step, going with the flow based on fatigue, encounters, and discoveries. So, can we book NO accommodations in advance (except maybe our arrival in Makassar)? On the Togian Islands—is that possible? Same question—can we "improvise" local transport like buses, taxis, or scooter rentals, and book flight tickets (e.g., Makassar-Luwuk) or ferry tickets just a few days ahead? Is it safe enough to travel by scooter for day trips with the kids? Do they generally have child-sized helmets available? We’re struggling to map out an itinerary. Our priorities are hiking (trekking) in the Mamasa Valley and Toraja region, and seeing at least one volcano. Then, of course, we’d love to enjoy the water—easy snorkeling. The Togian Islands look dreamy, but are they the best for "easy" snorkeling (from the beach) with young kids? The journey there is long, too. The Banggai Islands look amazing—could they be a good alternative to the Togian Islands (where finding accommodation might be trickier)? Any feedback?

Other questions: My oldest is crazy about crystals and geology. Has anyone explored the karst region north of Makassar? I also just learned there’s a volcano in the Togian Islands—Una Una (Colo Volcano). Any feedback on that?
