De tous mes voyages, j'essaye de ramenner un instrument de musique sérieux, pas professionnel mais de bonne facture !
Et je prépare mon voyage en Inde, avec au bout l'achat d'une flute en bamboo( je suis flutiste ) et peut-être un autre : sitar, tanpura, ...
Sans connaitre ce Pays, dont la musique m'enchante depuis longtemps, je pense d'aprés de nombreux récits que la ville de Varanesie ( Bénares ) est l'une des plus mystique : est-elle également un lieu de musique et y trouve-t-on des instruments ???
Si en plus de répondre à ces questions vous pouvez me donner le prix... ou un site internet..
Hé bien tout depent de ton budget en instru! tout dependra de la qualité..tu as des sitars, tampura, tablas.. à tous les prix..Mais je te conseille d'aller sur Calcutta si tu peux, pour de bons instrus, pas tres chers et de qualité! Sinon, je peux te conseille egalement un excellent magasin dans New Delhi, qui s'apelle Hare Krishna musical Store. C'est là où j'ai acheté la plupart des mes instrus. Y a meme eu Zakir Hussein qui est venu se prendre des tablas..bref! tu y trouveras vraiment de tout : Sitar, guitare, tabla, bongo, kongo, dholak, harmonium, tampura .......etc!! Le magasin se situe dans le L-Block de Connaught Circus - Manznin floor.C'est à l'etage, c'est une toute petite echoppe.
En fait n'achete pas le jour meme, dis lui precisement ce que tu veux, le prix que tu souhaites mettre, la qualité, et le lendemain tu y retournes et il t'aura ce que tu auras demandé.

le Budget ! ! je ne sais pas encore, je pense pouvoire mettre autant que je veux, ... c'est juste que je trouve inutile d'acheter un instrument pro si je suis incapable de le faire sonner... je ne cherche pas un jouet, mais quelque chose de solide et d'harmonieux : du point de vu du son comme de l'estétisme...
Avec 100euros je suis dans mes souhaits ou c'est plutot 1 000euros ???
oula mais avec 100 euros tu t'en sorts avec un bel instru deja!!J'avais vu un sitar qui me bottait, il etait à 7000rs.
Ma tampura, qualité moyenne, son tres correct, , qq incrustations d'os etc..je l'ai payé environ 65 euros ! une paire de tabla qualité excellente, je l'ai payé environ 90 euros! Et puis il sera facile de negocier avec le gars ! et tu peux demander à ce qu'il te rajoute les boites de transport, et c pas de la merde ce qu'il te donne! c'est du solide !!

Bon et bien plus besoin d'aller à Calcutta, traverser la mousson pour acheter des instru, .. je pourrais rester dans une ou deux villes, je n'aime pas circuler dans un pays comme un fou, je préfère m'installer pour un temps dans une ville...
Et tant qu'à y être quel ville me proposera un choix de concerts le plus variés ?

Je crois que si tu prends plusieurs instrus, tu pourras lui demander ce que tu veux ! il sera à tes pieds! Les valises qu'il te donnera pour les instru sont des malettes "pro" je dirai !
Bref je pense que tu as raison de partir leger, tu vas te faire plaisir ! mais de tte facon, il ne faut pas que le poids de tes bagages t'effraient ! Les indiens ne voyagent pas legers..eux c par balots entiers...A l'aeroport, on ne t'ennuieras pas pour qq malheureux kilos en trop..enfin personne ne m'a rien dit meme lorsque je depassais ..
Pour les concerts, là je ne peux pas t'aider ..désolé, mais le mieux c de te renseigner une fois sur place de toutes les festivités et concerts ! Moi c un flic qui m'a donné un programme à Delhi des concerts, ciné etc qu'il y avait pour les jours et semaines à venir..donc je pense pas que tu ais trop de mal à trouver ton bonheur!

Du coup je pense faire 3 villes et 1 village... le tout en 4 semaines, Delhi-Udaipur-un village ! -Varanesi et retour à Delhi....
enfin rien ne m'e, pèche de faire autrement... disons que tes renseignements me permettent de prendre un aller-retour Paris-Delhi, et je n'aurais pas à courir en Inde...

A Varanasi, y a aussi moyen que tu trouves de superbes instruments!! il y a bcp de tres bons luthiers et sculpteurs là bas! Mais de toute facon, tu trouveras ton bonheur dans chaque ville ! après tout depent des prix et de la qualité..Je ne me souviens plus des prix pratiqués à Varanasi, mais dans mon calpin j'ai noté Sangam, je crois que c'est un marchand ou le nom d'un magasin je ne sais plus !

De toute façon j'achèterais mes instru sur la fin du voyage donc j'aurais eut le temps de voir ton magasin avant d'aller à Varanesi et ainsi de comparer : si rien ne me plait... de toute façon je repasse par Delhi.....

moi aussi je vais en Inde du 9août au 1er octobre et je compte peut être m'acheter des instrus aussi! Peut être on s'y croisera, je vais comme toi aller à Varanasi et Delhi, je prends note des magasins. Par contre pour le moment je fais surtout des cordes et je me mettrai bien à une percus (tablas) ou les flûtes.
Mais comme je m'y connais pas trop c'est avec joie que je ferais les magasins avec vous si on s'y trouve au même moment.
J'ai deux questions:conernant les tablas, j'ai vu récamment en France, un musicien jouer avec un fut qui comportait une peau de chaque côté. J'ai parlé avec lui, il s'agit de l'ancètre tu table qui rassemble les deux futs en un. En avez vous déjà joué? Quel est la différence? Car c'est quand même plus pratique à trimbaler.concernant les flûtes, j'ai également vu un musicien en jouer deux à la fois dont une sans trou et ça se jouait avec le souffle continu. Qu'en savez vous?
J'ai acheté l'an dernier des tablas correct pour 2000 Rs, bien sûr ce n'est pas de la top quality, mais elles sonnent bien et sufiront pour ce que je vais en faire... vu la complexité de l'instrument ! 🤪

heuu Sarod jai un pote qui s'en est ramené un, mais je ne sais plus du tout le prix!!et je n'ai pas envis de te dire une betise, donc je m'abstiendrai..pour les concerts, il vaut mieux demander une fois que tu seras sur place !

le Oud, je l'ai ramené de Turquie ya 9 ans, je gratouille mais sans trop... quelques morceaux traditionnels et quelques impros qui vont pas chercher loin.. pas évident de passer du manche de la guitare au oud, faudrait faire que ça ! et comme en ce moment je manie plus le crayon que le manche ...😕

Les tablas, ce n'est pas grave! :) merci quand meme! au pire en Afghanistan je pourrai en trouver!moins bonne qualité surement.. Tres bonne conversation, je pars en Inde dans 15 jours et comptait ramener des instrus egalement.
Le probleme est que je pars de bombay et arrive par dehli, j'ai pas envie de me trimballer les instru tout le voyage donc je les acheterai a Bombay si c'est aussi bon marché...
j ai achete une paire de tablas a bombay. il y a largement de quoi trouver son bonheur dans cette ville. En plus si tu pars de la, je te conseille d acheter en fin de voyage histoire de pas se trimballer l instru.
Tu te feras une idee par toi meme en comparant divers boutiques (liste exaustive ds les pages jaunes que tu peux trouver a l hotel ou ailleurs). Tu trouvera de la tres bonne qualite a moins de 150 euros

Parmis les villes que j'ai faites, seule Udaipur, Delhi et Varanesi offrent vraiment un choix d'instrument de bonne qualité.. Je n'ai bien sur pas tout vu, je conseille ce que je connais c'est tout !
Donc Udaipur possède au moins 3 magasins de musique répartient autour du Palais.. il suffit de demander ( y a même un gars qui a inventer un espèce de piano-sitar ... )
Delhi possède plusieurs adresses, je recommanderais ici celle que l'on m'avait déjà donnée ( c'est ici que j'ai achetais mon harmonium ainsi que celui de mon compagnon de route ):

Je suis intéressé par un sitar.La premiére fois que j'ai visité l'Inde on m'a proposé un sitar pour 200€!!il y a une différence entre un instrument d'étude et un véritable sitar!!
Si tu a vraiment une "oreille" je ne pense pas que tu peux te suffire d'un instrument d'étudeé.Je suis guitariste, évidemment le sitar est un instrument rela tivement facile à aborder pour moi (qui joue depuis..30ans).Mais ceux que j'ai entendu sonnent pas assez bien..donc je cherche toujours...
Peut-être à Udaipur, qui sait?Je dois m'y rendre en Fevrier..
La plus part du temps, le magasin t'offre le boitier pour le transport de ton instrument.. et improvise une grande protection pour le voyage, .. car se sera la soute quoi qu'il arrive !

vous avez déjà répondu à pleins de choses, j'aurai juste voulu avoir plus de précisions concernant l'aéroport avec le sitar, comment cela se passe t'il lorsque tu ramènes qqchose qui est quand même imposant ?
pour la Sitar je ne sais pas exactement..., mais ce que je te conseille, c'est d'envelopper le plus possible ton instrument avec des tentures ( à l'intérieure de sa boite ), .. car quoi qu'il arrive tu ne pourra l'emporter en bagage à mains... aprés, ce que tu rammène de ton voyage ce calcul en poids, renseignes-toi auprés de la compagnie que tu va prendre... mais généralement cela tourne aux alentoures de 25Kg...
Aprés, je reste encore surpris d'avoir retrouver toutes mes flutes traversière en bambou, intactes.... !!!!! car elles étaient juste posées dans le sac de l'harmonium.. sans protections... pas eut le temps... et rien de cassé !! je ne comprends toujours pas !😮

We’re heading to Sri Lanka for 23 days in January 2027—there are four of us—and we’ll wrap up the trip with 5 days in Mumbai. Our itinerary is coming together, but what do you think? (We can’t change the dates since our flights are already booked.)
We still have one night to slot in, and I’ve tentatively planned it in Tangalle, though it was a bit random. Would it make more sense to place it at a different stop? Or is there an intermediate stop I might be missing?
I’ve got accommodations sorted everywhere except Mumbai—it’s a nightmare (either way too expensive or really dodgy). By default, we’ve spotted the Residency Hotel Fort, but 70 € a night (with a discount) for a hotel that doesn’t offer anything special in India?!
I’m planning a short visit to Pokhara around mid-February 2027 (it’ll be my 4th time in Nepal 😊, over 40 years!). I’d like to book a room in advance rather than looking when I arrive. I’ve checked a bit on Bxxking.com and see lots of options. I’m used to scoping out the surroundings of places listed, just to avoid ending up in areas that are either unappealing or far from everything.
So, I see quite a few offers around the lake (Lakeside?), but every time I check what it looks like, the streets seem really uninviting. It’s kind of like a construction site with buildings everywhere… Nothing like Bhaktapur (for example) or even Thamel, where the streets seem way more pleasant.
Could anyone give me some advice?
Also, I don’t really get the impression that Pokhara is worth a visit of several days. The lake, sure, but once you’ve seen it—what else is there?
I’m interested in the 10-day/8-night "Discover Nepal" tour offered by Capitales Tours, among others.
For Day 4, it lists Kathmandu-Mugling-Pokhara as 200 km and 8/9 hours of travel.
Is this duration due to the road conditions? I assume the stop in Mugling for lunch is included in the travel time.
For Pokhara-Chitwan, only the distance is mentioned: 160 km. Should I expect a long bus ride there as well?
The proposed flights would be with AIR-INDIA via DELHI. We had issues with AIR-INDIA before—they denied us boarding for Paris even though we arrived at the airport more than 3 hours early. There was no specific counter for PARIS; the counters were for all destinations, and we waited in line for over 2.5 hours only to be told "too late"...

We’ve already traveled to India twice before, but only for two-week stretches (2013, a loop from Mumbai including Hampi, and in 2019, Tamil Nadu). This time, we’re leaving at the end of October for nearly three months of travel—something completely new for us! We’ll arrive in Delhi and depart from Bangalore. Our goal is to explore Northern India and then head down to Kerala, taking a maximum of one flight and prioritizing trains.
Traveling for this long should let us plan longer stops to slow down the pace and fully enjoy our trip...
What are the places you’ve loved with this in mind?
I’ve already thought of Gokarna... Do you have any other suggestions, especially in Northern India?

Hello everyone,
we got back from our trip to Kashmir and Ladakh three weeks ago.
We spent 4 weeks there, including one in Kashmir.
We’re really happy with our stay in Srinagar and Sonamarg. The Kashmiris gave us a very warm welcome and seemed pleased to see tourists who weren’t Indian. In fact, over the 4 days we spent in Srinagar, we only saw 4 people who looked European... Srinagar is stunning with its lakes and the lively Mughal gardens. No trouble getting around, whether by shikara, rickshaw, taxi, or on foot. The houseboats are gorgeous, unfortunately controlled by consortiums. We took a taxi to Sonamarg (20 €).
Sonamarg (two nights) and its glacier are easy to explore, either on horseback or on foot, but it’s becoming a leisure spot for Indians.
To get to Ladakh afterward, we opted for a private taxi (quite expensive at 100 €, but the road is long). Since we’re a couple, it allowed us to stop whenever we wanted... and the route is beautiful all the way to Lamayuru, with our first snow-covered pass under snow when we crossed around May 21st. Then we stopped in Mulbek and Kargil before arriving in Lamayuru (three nights). We took another taxi to Alchi (26 €), spent one night there, and took the local bus at around 8 AM to Leh (3 €, a comfortable one-hour ride). We arrived in Leh around 9:30 AM, and Gyatsel from Tsarap Guesthouse came to pick us up with our backpacks. His guesthouse is located 500 meters from the market square in Leh, in a quiet little alley with no traffic. We highly recommend it because Gyatsel is invaluable for arranging taxis and organizing off-agency circuits...
His accommodation is super comfortable, and he cooks with vegetables from his garden. His wife also helps out... It’s Gyatsel’s mother who tends the garden. Through him, we arranged permits for the Nubra Valley up to Turtuk, then the Pangong and Tso Moriri lakes (we didn’t do the latter due to snow overnight!). We also crossed the Changtang (magnificent) to reach Thiksey, Stakna, Hemis, and returned to Leh. Six days in a private taxi (400 €). Since the roads were clear, we headed to Zanskar for 5 days in a shared taxi (28 € round trip for both of us). The route from Leh to Zangla follows the Zanskar gorges (impressive!).
We discovered Padum, Pibiting, Karsha, and Puktal, which you can reach via a small 7 km road and a 45-minute walk to finish, plus the sacred summit on the way to Manali.
Back in Leh, we extended our permit to visit the Aryan Valley by taxi (round trip, two days, 90 €).
We spent our last two days resting in Leh—the altitude is really tiring...
I’m sharing these taxi prices as a guide for a couple.
Accommodation ranged from 12 € in Leh to 30 € at Pangong Lake (the most expensive), but averaged around 15-17 € per night.
We’re not trekkers, but we love walks, discovery, and meeting people along the way. It was an amazing trip, and we even discovered a very old monastery a few kilometers before Lamayuru, where a monk took us—timeless...

Do you recommend planning the itinerary and booking accommodations in advance to save time once we’re there?
Or is it pretty easy to organize everything as we go without any issues?
Same question for activities: Should we book safaris and tours ahead of time, or can we arrange them easily on the spot? Is there a risk of not getting a spot, for example, to visit a park since we’ll be there in July?
We’ll be using local transport (train, VTC via PickMe, tuk-tuk) to get from one place to another.
In short: Are there any must-book things we should reserve now?

Not only do you save time, but you also know where you’ll be staying each night. Choosing well on Booking (or elsewhere) is actually a pleasure!
For safaris, given the number of jeeps with drivers available, it’s unlikely you’ll be turned away... the real issue is more about the concentration of jeeps around the animals.
I travel like you do—train, bus, tuk-tuk, and sometimes taxi. Ride-hailing apps like PickMe and other VTCs are mostly in big cities.
For the mountain train, due to severe flooding, service was interrupted on the line between Kandy and Ella. Check ahead, because reservations for this train are very complicated, if not impossible.
For the Colombo/Kandy train, you reserve your seats by buying the ticket before boarding. In the south, no need to book in advance for trains.
In Sri Lanka, there’s always a solution for getting around—just ask your hosts. They have trusted contacts at their fingertips. But still, compare prices—😏 smart move!
I stick to booking my nights and keep pre-planned activities to a minimum.
For reservations you can’t skip, it’s the beach stays you’ll want to secure.

We’re torn between spending it in the Jaffna region or on the east coast between Batticaloa and Trincomalee.
We’re divers, so the east coast appeals to us for snorkeling, beaches, and lagoons—but it seems like late March might not be the best time for that coast. What do you think?
As for Jaffna, the culture of the region, its more authentic feel since it’s less touristy, and the offshore islands all appeal to us too—but it seems far from the rest of the country and harder to access.
We have to choose because we won’t be able to visit both sides, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

We just got back from a 2-week trip to Sri Lanka as a couple, and while planning the trip, we found plenty of info on the itinerary, places to see, and transportation, but much fewer clear reports on the actual budget to expect once there. Yet, that was an important point for us because we like to plan ahead a little before traveling.

We’re a group of 5 heading to the Everest Base Camp trek in early April. We won’t have a porter or guide—we’re used to hiking independently and have already done the Langtang trek and the Annapurna Circuit (back in 2003!).
I’d love to know if it’s necessary to book lodges in advance or if we’ll easily find availability during this busy season. Also, will we find lodges all along the route between the main stopover villages, or only in those villages? I remember there were plenty everywhere on the Annapurna Circuit. We want to stay as flexible as possible.
We’re heading to India in March 2026 and had planned to visit the parts of the Meenakshi Temple that are open to non-Hindus. However, the temple is currently undergoing major renovations—with all the towers covered in scaffolding—which might really take away from the experience and our stop in Madurai.
After some frustrating and vague online searches, and before we reshuffle our itinerary, I’d love to know—if possible—the most accurate expected completion date for the renovation work.

QUESTION: People from Nepal are telling us it’s MANDATORY to have guides! Is this true, or is it just agencies trying to get work for their staff?
The Lonely Planet says: "In April 2023, the government announced that every trekker would need to hire the services of a porter or a licensed guide to obtain the TIMS permit. The law isn’t enforced, and by 2025, there were no longer any obligations for teahouse treks."
