Salta est une ville super interressante, au niveau historique ( c est une de plus vielle ville d Argentine ), aussi pour ces superbes paysages que j adoooooore . Ou meme le nouveau musee qui vient de s ouvrir sur la place centrale concernant les momies retrouvees au sommet d une montagne ( ne ratez surtout pas ce musee ) ...............mais que voulez vous, je n arrive tout de meme pas a me couvrir les yeux lorsqu un probleme touche un coin que je connais. Ca n enleve rien au tourisme ou meme aux touristes de s'interresser entre deux randonnees ou deux circuits de redescendre un peu dans le quotidien des personnes qui vivent sur place .
La rentree scolaire officiellement entamee depuis debut mars, n a toujours pas repris a Salta pour la simple raison que les profs sont sous payes...( mais vraiment sous sous sous payés...) c est vraiment une honte ! Comme l Argentine est un etat federal, Buenos Aires n entre pas dans le conflis, et c est le gouverneur de Salta qui a toute puissance pour faire regner sa loi .
Il y a 3 semaine, pour la nieme fois, les profs manifestaient pacifiquement sur la place centrale un vendredi soir, comme ca faisait "desordre" pour le tourisme, les brigades de CRS locaux ont debarque pour mettre tout le monde dans le panier a salade, comme les profs ont resisté.....( ce qui n'etait pas prevu )...d autres renforts de policiers sont arrives et ca a tourne au pugilat, puisque meme les passants ont pris parti pour les profs ......resultat, la tele etait la, a tout filme ( quelques coups de matraque sur les journalistes ) et hop, la place entiere a ete entierement vidé ! y compris par les touristes qui courraient aussi tres vite !
Ce genre d info, c est sur il n est pas sur le site web de l office de tourisme de Salta .
Aujourd hui grosse manif dans les rues ( une de plus ) Rien a craindre, les manifs sont toujours pacifiques, ils essaient juste d avoir un salaire decent . Si vous les croisez, au moins vous saurez pourquoi ils manifestent . La derniere idee est de faire la classe dans les rues pour attirez l attention des journalistes .....lorsque le pouvoir local est taxé d incapacité, il ne reste plus que le pouvoir des medias pour faire avancer le chmilblick. Pour ma part, je n'aime pas tout ce qui contribue à développer la peur de l'autre, le manque de confiance en l'être humain. Je préfère l'angle social et ses conséquences sur les individus.
Anecdote: Hier j'ai pensé à toi en écoutant les infos locales de ma région ( je suis dans le Var) augmentation des délits de 34, 81% dans ce département...hier un jeune a agressé un lycéen à coup de hache à la sortie du lycée dans une petite localité toute tranquille. Bon, tu vois, on n'a rien à envier à l'Argentine puisque même aller au lycée est quelquefois un exercice périlleux...pourtant il faut bien que nos jeunes y aillent!!!
Je reviens sur le sujet social dont tu parles. Pourrais-tu nous expliquer comment fonctionne la scolarité. Est-ce une éducation nationale? d'après ce que je comprends, il ne semble pas qu'il y ait les mêmes règles d'une province à l'autre. Ce sont les provinces qui paient les profs? Les diplomes scolaires et universitaires sont-ils identiques dans tous le pays?
L'école est-elle gratuite? Totalement? ou y a t-il des formes d'exclusion par l'argent?
Remarque, chez nous aussi en France, malgré les grands principes de l'école gratuite...ce n'est que relatif et les exclusions pour raisons sociales sont légions!
Comment fonctionne l'école primaire en particulier dans les régions éloignées du NOA ? J'ai l'impression que beaucoup d'enfants de la Puna notamment ne sont pas scolarisés pour cause d'éloignement. Y a t-il des possibilités de mettre ces jeunes enfants en internat pour régler ce pb d'éloignement?

( hahahahahah rire a la Bart Simpson ), Tu sais pour ce qui est des delits ici, je n alimente pas les peurs, les peurs ce sont les autres qui se les fabriquent . Savoir qu il y a des delits c'est une choses, en avoir peur c est une autre. Il y a des cliches qui ont la peau dur ! Ce n'est pas la nuit dans une ruelles sordides d une banlieue retiree que vous vous ferez attaquez a Buenos Aires, mais en plein apres midi a la sortie des bureaux en plein micro centre que l on vous volera votre CB et votre argent ! et pourtant en plein centre de Buenos Aires avec un beau soleil et au milieu d une foule, on n a pas peur !
Pour en revenir au social,
L ecole est gratuite pour ce qui est du public, puis viennent les ecoles privees comme en France, une partie subventionnee donc pas chere, et d autres totalement privees et hors de la portee des 99 % des argentins .
Les cheres ne sont pas pour autant meilleures ( je parle des ecoles ), dans certains coins les publiques sont meme meilleures que les privee.
L enseigenement primaire est plus long ici qu en France, 5 ans en france, 7 ans en Argentine, ce qui signifie que le secondaire est plus court en Argentine ( 5 ans ) contre 7 ans en France ! Donc en gros 12 ans jusqu au bac .
Au niveau du secondaire, un peu de tout, du mauvais public et du bon public ca depend si tu habites en villa miserias ou dans une province riche ( par ex la Patagonie )...le scondaire est d une maniere generale meilleure en privee.
La difference, ici il n y a pas de bac a la fin de la Terminale donc pas d examen de fin de cursus ......resultat, il a de tout surtout si tu as payé une ecole privee et qu a 18 ans tu sais a peine faire une addition ... ou aligner deux mots en anglais .
Donc chaque fac met en place un concours d entree... et la c est la surprise, puisque des fois seuls 10 % des etudiants arrivent a passer les tests. Conclusion, l'enseignement secondaire a terriblement baissé au cours des annees 80 et 90 .
Le niveau des facs par contre est bon voir tres bon suivant les specialites.
Les facs sont de l etat ( participation de l etat et un peu de la province ), par contre les ecoles sont de la province donc des diff entre celles ci . ( enseignement et salaire ) .
Pour Salta, les enseignants gagnent en salaire de base 250 pesos ( oui, oui tu as bien lu ), avec peut etre une augmentation qui va aller a 300 pesos ...... Eux, ils veulent 750 pesos, c'est pour ca que ca coincent !
Bonjour à tous ! nous étions à Salta au moment des manif et notamment celle qui a tourné au vinaigre... on a su par divers sources que les profs s'étaient fait taper dessus copieusement... nous les avions vu manifester très pacifiquement le dimanche de Pâques devant la cathédrale (archipleine)
Pour répondre à ta question Nicole, nous avons parcouru un peu la Puna et fait un petit séjour à Iruya (Quebrada de Humahuaca) et nous avons vu des cars faire le ramassage scolaire auprès de tout petits hameaux (ds la Puna). A Iruya, il y a un internat et on nous a expliqué que c'était pour les élèves de tous les hameaux et villages alentours (complètement perdus je suppose, puisque la piste praticable en véhicule motorisé s'arrête à Iruya). A Salta beaucoup d'élèves sont internes et certains ne rentrent chez eux qu'un WE par mois.
A Buenos Aires on remarque les élèves des écoles privées par leur uniforme (enfin c'est une déduction perso d'après mes observations, Hergé me dira si je me trompe😉) : systématiquement costume cravatte pour les garçons et jupe plissée-chemisier pour les filles tout ceci ds un tissu (styme écossais bien souvent) de couleur différente selon les écoles, c'est plutôt mignon. En revanche les "publics" sont "en civil" !!
Ce que je n'ai pas trop compris ce sont les horaires, et ceci surtout ds le NOA. On voyait des groupes d'élèves aller en classe à une heure précise (début d'après midi par ex.) et environ 1h après plein d'autres enfants dans la rue... ou semblant quitter l'école... enfin si quelqu un pouvait m'expliquer les rythmes scolaires (ou le niveau de scolarité, tout les enfants sont ils scolarisés ?) ça m'intéresse.
Enfin, plusieurs argentins nous ont dit, comme l'a écrit Hergé plus haut, que le niveau scolaire a chuté. Et je touve qu'on peut appliquer cette obervation à la France également...
Ahh l'Argentine !! si proche et pourtant si loin...(pour moi aujourd'hui de retour sur le vieux continent😐)
En effet, pour les privees, uniforme obligatoire, cravatte, chemise blanche, pantalon et veste de couleur differente suivant les etablissements avec ecusson tres british pour les etablissements chics !
Par contre pour les publics, pas d uniforme mais un "guarda polvo" blanc ( une blouse blanche ) pour tous . ( moins cher que l uniforme et obligatoire tout de meme ).
Pour ce qui est des horaires c est simple : Natalite en explosion = Beaucoup de gamins = toujours les memes ecoles qu il y a 50 ans = trop de gamins par classe = solution : faire deux ecoles en une, donc soit le gamin va a l ecole le matin, soit a l'ecole l'apres midi ...On voit donc toute la journee des gamins en blouses blanche aller ou revenir de l ecole ....soit c'est 8h00 - 13h00 soit c est 13h30 - 18h30...pour les enseignants, eux ce sont les memes ! ils font tout pour un seul salaire, hehehehe pas bete hein le systeme !
Par contre dans le privé, le top du top argument de vente c est le " doble turno " ou double scolarisation c'est a dire comme en France, ecole matin et apres midi ....voila pourquoi l ecole privee depasse aujourd hui le public ! Hier Vendredi a Salta !
Resultat : enseignants creuvés 2 classes de 40, dur dur ! Les enseignants de Salta jettent l eponge ( ca fait 1 mois et demi qu ils sont en greve, donc pas de salaire ! ), un accord est entrain de se signer cet apres midi ( samedi ) pour augmenter le salaire basique a...............320 pesos par mois ( 90 euros ) !!!!! Ca en devient pathetique ...merci Mr le gourverneur de Salta ! On votera pour vous la prochaine fois !
Voila pourquoi les enseignants desertent le public pour se trouver un emploi dans un college privé ! et pendant ce temps la, le niveau de l'education baisse !

Je le fais dès que possible mais en ce moment je suis un peu débordée avec les activités diverses ( on vient de faire une journée d'initiatives avec France Cuba Var et j'ai préparé un certain nombre de choses- on prépare le 1er mai avec repas chez moi pour environ 70 personnes...)Il y a aussi la campagne électorale pour le 29 mai avec ses distributions de tracts sur les marchés et dans les boîtes ( moi, c'est non! )Alors dès je peux, je réapparais

Moi aussi j'y étais à Salta lors de la manif !!! mais je peux dire que les enseignants manifestaient dans une ambiance plutôt bon enfant, il n'y avait aucune agressivité de leur part.
Par contre au moment des hostilités, je n'étais pas présente, je ne peux donc dire ce qui a dégenéré.....
En 2003 j'étais à Buenos Aires dans un Institut public (sur Pellegrini).
J'avais une prof qui était: directirce du secondaire + enseignante en secondaire et en supérieur dans le même institut et qui en + donnait des cours dans un autre collège public (derrière Tribunales, gracias a Dios! pas trop éloigné de l'autre pour la pause déjeuner!)
La majorité des autres profs de l'institut donnaient des cours particuliers.
Une autre de mes prof était directrice du département des Langues Etrangères de L'Université de BA + prof dans cet institut!
Cumul des postes et cours particuliers, voilà la réalité des profs que j'ai cotoyé à Buenos Aires.
Le salaire ? Je crois que Hergé nous a déjà informé de sa misérabilité! A toutes les échelles (maternelle, primaire, supérieure)
Bien évidemment tout cela rentre dans un contexte, n'empêche que deux ans après je suis tjs en admiration!

Fini le mecontentement a Salta ! ( enfin officiellement ) puisque hier lundi, les cours ont repris et qu il n y a plus greve !
Donc les profs et instits ont baissé la tete, accepté la maigre " revalorisation des salaires " comme on dit en France et zoup c'est reparti pour un annee scolaire ..............en sachant que le probleme se reposera dans quelques mois, puisque le cout de la vie augmente chaque mois. C est reparti pour un an a Salta ! ( photo d'hier lundi ) A bientot ! Herge !
Puisqu'on parle de la situation (assez déplorable ) des profs argentins j'aimerai savoir si cette situation est la même pour les profs de fac, et s'ils soutiennent les enseignants descendus dans la rue. Bref, est ce que ces manifs ne touches qu'une certaine partie des profs ou est ce qu'il y a un soulèvement national ( capable de peut-être de faire plier un peu le gouvernement en leur faveur, ne serait qu'un peu plus???)

I’m planning a trip with my partner (no kids this time—thanks, Grandma!) for two weeks to celebrate her 40th birthday. I’ve been thinking about Chile. We’re looking at leaving around September 18, 2027, starting in the south and returning in early April.
Here’s what I had in mind:
8 nights in a van in the Lake District and the start of the Carretera Austral (up to the Chaitén area). We’re set to arrive in Puerto Montt around 2:00 PM. We don’t want to go too far south since we’re planning to explore the heart of Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) with the kids when they’re older. The idea is to spend 3 nights discovering the lakes (up to Cochamó) and 3 nights in Pumalín Park. I’ve also added two transition nights.
7 nights in the Atacama to experience another side of Chile (San Pedro), taking a domestic flight from Puerto Montt to Calama in the early afternoon. We’ll depart for France in the early evening from Santiago.
IMPORTANT NOTICE for those planning to take a bus to another city, state, or destination from Salvador!
Starting January 20, 2026, the intercity bus station Rodoviária is changing its address!
The Rodoviária is leaving the Iguatemi area and will now be located in ÁGUAS CLARAS (about twenty kilometers from downtown Salvador).
A brand-new station (the most modern in Brazil) has just been set up there, accessible by car/taxi/Uber/metro.
Allow for much more transfer time (especially during rush hours), so leave early if you're heading to Chapada Diamantina or other Brazilian cities by bus.
Remember, there are also private transfers (even French-speaking ones) that can take you directly from your hotel in Salvador to your hotel in Chapada. Sure, it’ll be more expensive, but you’ll save on transfer time and comfort.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.
What do you think of this itinerary? Is it doable in 17 days?

After lots of research and quotes, it’s the only one offering Uyuni at a reasonable price while meeting all the criteria: transfer to the border, private-room accommodation, and a very fair rate. Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?
In France, banks don’t issue credit cards, right—or am I mistaken?

I’m desperately looking for info on the schedules and routes of (shared) boats to visit the islands of Lake Titicaca.
From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?
The goal is to do this tour independently (no agency) over 2 days. Thanks for any tips you might have!
I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...
I’ve seen that we can stop over in San Antonio de los Cobres.

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.
