Hi there,
Another new idea!
Given the travel times and the complexity of public transport to get from Manila Airport to Banaue (with a 2-day stop in Capas for a trip to Pitalito), we’re thinking of renting a car for the week.
We’ve started looking around, but the booking sites aren’t offering much—can’t find a small vehicle for two. If anyone has any tips to share, we’d love to hear them! And if two other travelers are interested in our itinerary, we can share the ride! (February 19–26). Thanks again for your help.

Hi there,
I’d love some tips for great excursions around Benoa.
I’d like to visit UBUD, but how should I do it: by jeep, quad bike, or bike?

Hi everyone,
We’ll be spending 3 days in Khao Sok during our trip to Thailand in March 2025. Could anyone share some great tips on:
Accommodation, excursions, and dining?
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone, help!
My wife and I love Thailand, but after a good dozen trips, we're out of ideas 🙂 We’ve pretty much done all the islands: Koh Ngai, Jam, Kradan, Lanta, Lipe, Muk, Pha-Ngan, Ngai, Samui, Tao, Phayam, Phi-Phi, Chang, Yao Noi, Yao Yai, Phuket, and now we’re looking for a quiet spot on the mainland. Last year, we spent 15 days on the east coast in Ban Kroot, north of Chumphon, and we’re looking for something similar.
Thanks for any other suggestions!
Hi there.
Do you know if there’s a bus from HCM to Cao Lanh, and which company runs it?
It’s kinda hard to figure out.
Maybe some of you have taken this same route before?
Thanks.
Hi there,
Has anyone got any great tips for long-term car rental (1 month, maybe more) in Chiang Mai?
We’re a retired couple planning a trip to Laos in December 2025, and we’d love to make some contacts now to help us plan our journey. We’re also interested in accommodations and/or local guides who could show us around the country.
Hi there,
It’s all in the title. I’m starting to think about my destination for summer 2026, and Cambodia is currently at the top of my list. Among the spots frequently mentioned for a 2- or 3-week trip to Cambodia, Battambang comes up often. However, so far, I haven’t found any truly remarkable features that would justify spending 2 or 3 days (including travel and visits) in this city during a 3-week stay, especially since I’m primarily looking for stunning photography spots—whether natural landscapes, urban scenes, or architecture. Where can I find some enlightening documentation on Battambang to help shift my perspective? Sorry for exposing my ignorance about this city like this, but all the photos I’ve seen online and the travel journals I’ve read don’t really showcase what makes it appealing, even though the descriptions suggest it’s very charming.
Thanks for any insights you can share!

Good evening,
Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)
- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.
- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?
- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)
- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?
- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?
I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!
Thanks in advance, and have a great evening! :-)

Kicking off the thread with an informative article about Phra Kreuang, protective amulets (according to local belief) that Thai people of all kinds wear around their necks:
https://www.objetsdevasion.com/guides/objet-bouddhiste/amulette-bouddha/les-amulettes-bouddhiques-thailandaises.html
You can find them all over the Kingdom: in temples, at markets, in specialty shops, and even in mail-order flyers at Seven/Eleven.
Also, heads up for those in Paris—from October 11th to 20th, there’s a collective exhibition featuring Thai artists: https://phenixwebtv.com/2019/07/23/facets-of-thailand-une-exposition-collective-de-cinq-artistes-de-la-scene-contemporaine-thailandaise/?fbclid=IwAR28PCY1t48M2DiwVlnc5uZvT20FnsxNLMppOb8d1pSfOjiw_sW_htV2CnI

Hello everyone! :)
Our next trip to Thailand is coming up, and we just can't wait! We talk, eat, drink, and dream Thailand 😏
Our itinerary is mostly set, and we’ve found quite a few new things to explore, but I’d still love to hear your recommendations for Bangkok. Just so you know: we love this city, and every time we visit, we spend several days there without ever feeling like we’ve seen it all. So this year, we’re staying for 8 days! Here’s what we have planned this year: * Exploring Nonthaburi * A day trip to Nakhon Pathom (to test out our basic Thai skills 😛) * Khlong Lat Mayom floating market (we went 10 years ago—it’s probably changed a lot!) * The Erawan Museum (we visited Muang Boran on our last trip) * Finally taking the time to check out Wat Phra Sri Maha Mariamman and Wat Yannawa (we’ve planned to go several times but never made it—are they worth a visit?)
This is what we’ve picked so far, but I’d love to hear about the favorite spots and recommendations from travelers who, like us, adore Bangkok.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Laetitia and Benjamin.

Hi there,
Big travel year in Asia for me. I’m heading to Southeast Asia for a month in mid-July. The dates aren’t flexible since I’m going primarily for a wedding (Laos). So, I’ll start my trip in Laos for 4 days, then head off... where?
I’ve already done a trip exclusively in Laos a few years ago. I also visited Vietnam for the second time last year, so I’d love to explore something new. I was thinking of Cambodia (but only for Angkor) and northern Thailand, which I haven’t seen yet (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Pa Hin Ngam National Park), and wrapping up with a few nights in Koh Samui. My question is about the weather. From what I’ve seen, Koh Samui seems to be spared during this period. But for Angkor and northern Thailand, I’m not so sure—it feels like a gamble. And I’m really not in the mood for rainy vacations, since I already get enough gray skies where I live 😅.
So, I had another idea: after Laos, I could head to Bali (or another Indonesian island) where it’s supposedly the right season. The flight ticket price is exactly the same, including a one-way to Bali and the return from Bali (with a layover in Bangkok). For those who’ve traveled in July, what do you think? Is there a big risk in trying northern Thailand and Angkor?
Thanks in advance!

Good evening,
I’m throwing a message in a bottle out there, just in case...
I collect crystals and minerals (natural stones) and I’d love to know if anyone here could recommend a trustworthy shop in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. You never know—maybe there’s another collector or enthusiast on the forum! :)
Thanks in advance, and have a great evening, everyone.
Laëtitia.

Hi,
I’m heading to Thailand (first time!) in a week. We planned to be in Khao Sok National Park on February 1st and 2nd.
I got a message yesterday saying it wouldn’t be possible to do any activities on Lake Chiew Lan as planned because of “weather conditions.” Despite all my research, I can’t find any info that supports this. Does anyone have recent updates? Is it really impossible to visit the lake, and if so, are there any alternatives?
They’re offering a walk to Bang Hua Rad waterfall instead. Any thoughts?
We’re really disappointed—the lake looked amazing 😢
Hi there,
I’m looking for a good and affordable guide to visit the national park with my wife and two young adults.
It’s pretty urgent since I’d like to do it this week, departing from Koh Phangan.
Thanks for your tips and contacts!
Hi there,
I’d love to do a one-day trek that includes visiting waterfalls, swimming, etc. with my family, starting from Koh Phang Nga.
Thanks in advance for your tips on finding a guide.
Best,
Hi there,
what do you think of this itinerary, please? Do you think it’s doable?
We’re two adults—it’s our honeymoon trip! 🙂
Our main interests lean more toward nature and landscapes than cultural visits (though we won’t rule out one or two temple visits).

Hi everyone!
If you're heading to Indonesia, don't forget to visit Bandung. There are so many beautiful tourist destinations there. Bandung is located in West Java. You can choose your destination and go for it. If you're adventurous, you can visit Mount Tangkuban Parahu, the Kawah Putih crater, waterfalls, and other places. But if you prefer strolling around the city, you can walk around Gasibu to see the Gedung Sate building and visit the Bandung Geological Museum. You can also go shopping because there are traditional souvenirs and clothes. The prices are cheap. Don’t worry about accommodation or transport—you’ll find it easily.
Hi everyone.
I’ve been wondering about the safety of the crossing between Gili Gede in Lombok and Bali via Gili Gateway. I need to get to Bali in early September, and the 2-hour crossing is appealing, but given recent boat incidents, I’m questioning the safety and navigation conditions.
If anyone has any info, I’d love to hear it! Flying is still an option...
Thanks
Hi everyone,
We have a chance to stop in Hanoi on our way from Japan back to France.
We arrive on Tuesday, May 12th around 2 PM and leave for France on Saturday, May 16th around 10 PM.
I’d like to do a 2-day cruise in Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay, then either 2 days in Ninh Binh or 1 day.
- 12/05: Hanoi
- 13/05: cruise
- 14/05: end of cruise and head to Tam Coc
- 15/05: sightseeing
- 16/05: early departure for Hanoi, day in Hanoi, then flight to France at 10 PM
We don’t want to be overwhelmed by crowds of tourists and prefer to be on our own.
Do you have any tips for us—agencies, transport, sights, accommodation, or visits? Thanks so much for your feedback! Best regards, Isabelle

Hello,
We’re heading to Bali as a family (5 people) for about twenty days, from mid-August to early September. Since our English is pretty limited, we’d like to hire a French-speaking driver or guide to accompany us on certain days and show us around the island, picking us up directly from our various hotels.
That said, I imagine this kind of service is probably more expensive than taking a local taxi, right?
Also, which Uber-like app should we use there? And for bookings, which website should we look for accommodations on?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi everyone,
I know you can buy anything in Thailand, but here’s a question you might find a bit odd. Are there plus sizes available? 😛 For example, for shoes, can you easily find sizes 38–40? And XL pants in sports brands????
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
Does anyone know if it's possible to travel from Thailand to Cambodia by boat? If so, where do the boats depart from and arrive, and can you get a Cambodian visa on arrival?
Thanks (and happy travels)!

Hi,
I’ve booked tickets to Phuket to stay in the Andaman Islands (Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta Yai Noi, etc.).
I’m really struggling to book our hotels because the reviews are so bad.
We’re looking for mid-range to upscale hotels.
Any tips or recommendations would be super welcome!!! Thank youuuu
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are heading to Thailand with our two boys on July 8th. We’ll be moving around: Bangkok (3 nights), Ayutthaya (1 night), Chiang Mai (4 nights), Koh Samui (4 nights), and Koh Phangan (3 nights). We have a flight from Koh Samui to Bangkok in the afternoon the day before our return to France, arriving around 5 PM in Bangkok (it’ll be a Friday). I’m still wondering where to stay in Bangkok for this last night in Thailand. Initially, I thought about booking a hotel near the international airport, but I figured there might not be much to do there... maybe we’ll want one last crowd-filled night at a food market? So, I considered booking a hotel near the metro instead, for easy access to the airport the next morning, while still being central enough to go out for our last evening before heading back to France.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this :-) And if you lean toward the second option, which neighborhood/hotel would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for your help! Have a great evening :-)

Hi fellow travelers,
I’ll be in Manila on March 9th and plan to head to Banaue on the evening of the 12th with Coda for a 3-day trek. After that, I’d like to go to Sagada and then continue to Vigan.
From what I’ve read, most people go to Sagada first with Coda and then return to Banaue, but I’d prefer to do Banaue-Sagada and then head to Vigan.
I haven’t seen this kind of itinerary on the forum. Does anyone have recommendations on how to do it by bus?
Your suggestions/tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I applied for a 30-day visa, the payment was accepted, but I haven’t received the PDF. Is the payment confirmation enough to get the visa on arrival in Jakarta?

We’re heading to Malaysia for 10 days (landing in Singapore). We’ll spend 4 or 5 days on Tioman, but what after? I’m really struggling to find an itinerary or a second spot to settle in—any suggestions?
Hi,
I’m heading to Cambodia for a month in November. I’d like to visit the Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri regions on my trip. Could anyone give me some info about these areas? Transportation, trekking (is it tough?), and other tips. I’m looking to travel to non-touristy spots.
Thanks
