Choosing Packages on the "Renaissance" (CFC) - "Jewels of Vestlandet" Circuit

Hello, We’ll be sailing on the Renaissance with CFC to southern Norway from July 4 to 11, 2026, departing from Dunkirk (the cruise was booked through "Planète Croisière"). When entering some personal details or pre-selecting options on the CFC website, I’m wondering about the "optional" categories for drinks and WiFi. I’m actually a bit surprised by these extra charges, as we weren’t used to them on other cruises (Australis in Patagonia; Hurtigruten’s Coastal Express in Norway and Alaska; Rivages du Monde in the Arctic or on the Douro River; a Nile river cruise in Egypt), where we sometimes had access to basic drinks at meals and free WiFi when near land. Anyway, for those who’ve already taken a CFC cruise on the Renaissance, could you share some advice? Specifically about the most basic drink package, called "Fraîcheur" (238 € for two), which doesn’t seem to be described anywhere. The "Premium" package seems excessive (490 € for two for the week) for light drinkers. As for WiFi, it’s 10 € per day per person. While I find that price acceptable for parking our car in Dunkirk, it feels overpriced here (especially since it was free on the Nordlys "Coastal Express" just 3 or 4 years ago). So, I’d love to hear from experienced cruisers who’ve been on this ship! Looking forward to seeing the excursion prices, which should be available soon! 😐

Thanks in advance!

Hi J-Michel,

We did the mini-cruise from 04/11/26 to 04/16/26 on the Renaissance. Our kids and us didn’t take the drink package since we don’t drink much. My husband and our son-in-law ordered a bottle of red wine at the Vatel restaurant for dinner (between 24-28 € per bottle). The bottle was left on our table the next day since there was still some left. Unlimited water was served by the glass. At lunch at the buffet, there was unlimited water from the dispensers. There were six of us, and we had some aperitifs (2 with alcohol and 4 without for the grandkids, also around 24-28 €). Our son-in-law said the prices were very reasonable. We didn’t take the internet package—we just turned on mobile data when ashore and used airplane mode on board. Have a great weekend! mum49

Unlimited water at the Vatel and the buffet. We get great reception near the coasts and in the fjords.

The best advice I can give you is to choose a more honest agency for your next booking 😉 Drink packages are only cost-effective for cruise lines if you're visiting on a layover...

Thanks already to the three of you for these useful initial replies—I read them with interest!

- For drinks consumed on board, the retail prices don’t seem excessive, especially if an opened bottle can be brought back for the next service. * Does this mean you’re always assigned the same seats for the whole week? For choosing a table type before departure (2 if offered, 4, 6, or 8 seats) for a couple traveling alone, what advice would regulars give us? It’s a bit of a lottery with table companions… 🤪 Is it better to have 2 or 6 permanent seats? 😉

- For WiFi, I’ve noted the favorable conditions for picking up the network near the coast.

Have a good evening! 🙂

Hello, There are tables for two, but this option isn’t offered when booking online. Best regards,

Hi J-Michel,

For dinner, if you go to the LE VATEL restaurant, you’ll be assigned a table for the duration of the cruise. It’s up to you whether you go or not. During our 2025 cruise, we were at a table of 6: a Belgian couple who only stayed for one dinner, leaving us with two couples, and the other "couple" split up during the cruise, so we ended up alone. After that, we ate at the buffet for the rest of the cruise. It seems that tables for 2 are prioritized for "suite" cabins. Generally, on cruises, they try to seat people of similar ages together. Good evening,

As a general rule, no matter the cruise line, a table of six is a good choice. That way, if you don’t get along with one couple for whatever reason, you’ve got a chance to hit it off with the other. 😉 We’ve often followed this rule, and we think it’s a good one.

Hi there,

I’d already had a similar thought in favor of a table for 6, which is currently leading the race 🤪

For Mum49, quite the feat to first scare off a couple and then cause the other one to split up and scatter. Not sure we’ll be as effective if needed 😉

"Unlimited water at Vatel and the buffet"

Hi Lol68,

The very recent reviews I just read on Trustpilot seem really worrying for the 2026 version of the "Renaissance," as CFC apparently came under the control of the British group Ambassador in 2025. Beyond the drop in services—including even table water now being charged, cabin heating at just 18°C in winter, expensive and unreliable internet packages, and so on—what shocks me the most is the itinerary reduction and last-minute port changes made without any prior notice to customers or plausible explanations. For example, yesterday, while checking out the (very pricey) paid excursions, I noticed that the ship, departing round-trip from Dunkirk, won’t go beyond Bergen (which we’ve already seen twice before) to the north—about 300 km less than the Austelfjorden (which we were excited to discover) originally scheduled as the northernmost point on day 3. That means they’re cutting 600 km from the route described when we signed the contract... At this point, I’m pretty pessimistic about what awaits us in early July, but standing up for our rights is going to be like David versus Goliath... 😕

Hi J-Michel,

During our cruise from 04/11/26 to 04/16/26, water in the restaurant was served by the glass and was FREE, as well as at the buffet dispensers. As for the itinerary change before your departure, that’s still weird... what does your agency say? We also found the internet package expensive, so we connected during the stops. The Ambassador group experience felt a bit off on the ship because some servers only speak English, but most are French-speaking. Have a great weekend! Mum49

PS: We didn’t scare off the Belgians or the "couple" during the 2025 cruise. The Belgians wanted a table for two, and the "couple" split up during the cruise... 😉 luckily there were empty cabins available 😏

Hi Jean Michel. Which Norwegian cruise and on what date? Internet packages are really expensive on all the companies. I connect at the stops—that’s enough for me. And during a cruise in Norway last year, I noticed that in the fjords there was a special fjords network accessible just like the standard Norwegian network.

Hi, is tap water still free at Vatel? We had a balcony cabin and requested a table for two for dinner, which we got.

As for the change in itinerary before your departure, it’s still weird... what’s your agency saying?

My agency isn’t responding at all—neither by phone nor email—for several days now... Is "Planète Croisière" still trustworthy? 🤪...

Good evening J-Michel, Several people have complained about this agency. We book our cruises with CROISILAND, located in Le Bourget-du-Lac, because in addition to the cruise line discounts, we also get an extra 10% off with our "reduc-senior" or "butterfly" card. We can communicate by email or phone without any issues, and we always receive well-informed responses. We had to cancel a cruise planned for September 2027 and booked another one, and we only paid the cruise line’s cancellation fees because, since we rebooked another cruise with Croisiland, we didn’t have to pay the agency’s cancellation fees. Good luck with your plans. Guyène

Hello,

We’d already used them back in 2022, I think, for a Hurtigruten cruise—originally to Alaska. But after Lufthansa’s air-travel issues (they canceled flights between Frankfurt and Anchorage without warning), we switched to a 15-day Norway trip on the Coastal Express instead.

We didn’t have any complaints about them then, but when everything runs smoothly with the cruise line, the intermediary agency doesn’t really deserve credit—you can only judge them when things go wrong!

It’s true that Le Bourget (73) wouldn’t have been the most obvious choice for you, since Avrillé seems to be in Anjou...

Anyway, this will probably be our last cruise. It already feels a lot less appealing than when I booked it in autumn 2025...😕

Best regards,

Hello,

Cruise from July 4th to 11th, "Jewels of Vestlandet," round trip from Dunkirk.

- In Bergen, do cruise ships dock near the city center, like the "Coastal Express"? It doesn’t seem so, since the CFC rep told me "20 km away"... 😕 But it looks like there are free local shuttles to the city from the disembarkation points?...
MI Micax Veteran ·
Hello, On the port of Bergen’s website, the Renaissance is scheduled to dock at Bontelabo quay. It’s less than 1 km from Bergen’s city center and the famous Bryggen district. Best regards,

Thanks—better late than never (I stopped getting VF messages in my email)! 😉
