La question que je me pose est comment vous notez vos voyage au long cour sur vos CV ? J'ai en 2007 et 2008 traversé l'Asie en vélo et en 2011-2012 fais un demi tour du monde. J'ai pris des photos pendant ces deux voyages mais je trouve que "photographe" est à la fois réducteur et un peut prétentieux. Voyageur, ben j'suis pas Levis Strauss et en plus ça fait un peu touristes...
Bref vous mettez quoi vous pour remplir les blancs ?
tu écris que t'as pris une année sabbatique pour faire le tour du monde et ne pas mourir bête.Si l'employeur n'apprécie pas, tu n'as rien à gagner à travailler pour eux
une petite recherche sur le forum te permettra de retrouver un post pas très vieux (cette année encore si j'ai bonne mémoire) sur le même sujet et qui avait suscité beaucoup de réactions.
il y a ceux qui y verront de la curiosité, de l'ouverture d'esprit, une faculté d'adaptation
et les autres qui se diront que t'es un tire au c..., que t'as pas tellement envie de travailler 🤪 et que tu pourrais repartir à tout moment.
tout dépend de qui va prendre en main ton cv et non pas de ce que tu vas y écrire (enfin, un peu aussi, mais dans une moindre mesure).

Pourquoi pas "globe-trotter": c'est une personne qui parcourt le monde. Et cela va attiser la curiosité du ou de la préposé(e) au recrutement qui voudra en savoir plus. 😏
C'est fou ce que les hommes ont peu d'humour quand ce ne sont pas eux qui le pratiquent.
De musique en musique, de couplet en refrain, on voyage plus vite que par d'autres moyens (Enrico, dis!)

ça dépend du type d'emploi que tu recherche, chaque cv est adapté au poste recherché. il faut pas aussi que ça soit un frein pour l'employeur qui veut t'embaucher en étant sûr que tu prends pas trop souvent des congés.
mais comme ça, dans la rubrique "Divers" tu peux ajouter par exemple :
- traversé de l'Asie en vélo en 2007-2008, et demi tour du monde en 2011-2012)
- photographie de voyage, tennis, théatre, vélo
Je comprends ton questionnement, tu ne peux pas savoir à l'avance comment ca va être considéré. Surtout en France ou on apprécie pas forcément les expériences qui sortent de l'ordinaire.
Pour répondre (enfin!) à ta question, pourquoi ne pas transformer ca en "séjour linguistique" ?
En supposant que tu maîtrises correctement une autre langue que le français!
Ca peut être perçu comme une expérience qui ne vise pas seulement à prendre son pied (égoistement 😎) en voyage, mais surtout pédagogique.

Je vais essayer de synthétiser tous ça en espérant que ça puisse aider d'autre revenant.
La question était donc de trouver un intitulé à mettre sur un CV en cas de voyage au long cours :
- Voyageur au long cours
- globe-trotteur
- séjour linguistique
- voyage autour du monde
Vous êtes plusieurs à conseiller de mettre ces voyages au long cours dans la rubrique "divers". Personnellement je ne mettrais pas mes voyage dans cette rubrique, puisque 1) je n'en ai pas et 2) pcq ces expériences représentent énormément de temps et d'efforts et qu'elles m'ont apportées des compétences que je réinjecte dans mon travail.
Quand à l'intitulé, j'ai plus tendance à retenir les deux premières propositions de la liste puisque c'est ce que je cherchais. C'est à dire, non pas un synonyme plus professionnel à "voyage au long cours" mais à "voyageur au long cours", peut-être m'étais-je mal exprimé ?
Si tu inscris tes jobs sous le titre de "expérience", par années avec la plus récente tout en haut bien sûr, tu peux glisser tes 2 voyages dans les dates des années concernées.
Je ne sais pas ce que tu recherches comme job, mais selon le cas, mieux vaut ne pas être trop farfelu dans l'énoncé.
J'ai pas mal planché sur la question du voyage d'un an et du CV.
Dans tous les cas, la meilleure option est comme tu le dis d'utiliser cette expérience riche pour renforcer ton profil professionel. Je crois qu'il ne faut pas avoir peur de cette expérience et ne pas la voir comme 1 an sans travailler. Si tu prends 3000 candidats à un poste spécialisé, en exagérant tu as 3000 candidats qui ont un diplome identique, une formation identique, les connaissances identiques dans le domaine de ce poste. Donc qu'est ce qui va faire la différence ? Tout ce qui tourne en dehors des compétences du poste. Si tu arrives à démontrer que t'es une personne différente des autres et que cette différence est une très bonne option pour le travail alors tu prends un avantage. Quelle est la meilleure compétence secondaire pour une personne qui a un profil déjà spécialisé dans le poste ? le travail en équipe, la faculté d'adaptation, l'ouverture d'esprit, la possibilité de trouver des solutions à de nouveaux problèmes, etc.
Quelles sont les qualités que tu développes durant 1 voyage d'un an en vélo en Asie: la communication malgré des langues différentes et des barrières culturelles différentes (tiens ça ressemble à travail en équipe), pouvoir s'adapter aux cultures, codes, religions, climats (ça ressemble à faculté d'adaptation), pouvoir accepter des cultures différentes et des traditions différentes (ouverture d'esprit), pouvoir réparer un vélo au fond du désert du tibet sans les outils (trouver des solutions), etc. Tu vois l'énorme potentiel de ton voyage d'un an dans un CV !!!!!!!!!!!! J'ai envie de dire que c'est la meilleure complémentarité à une formation académique.
Dans mon cas, je suis ingénieur et voilà quelles sont les solutions que j'ai trouvées pour moi:
sur le CV, rubrique EXPERIENCES PERSONNELLES:
2006 : Traversée de l’Asie en solitaire à bicyclette (11 000 km): découvrir d’autres cultures et différents modes de vie, m’ouvrir l’esprit et ma vision du partage.
Sur ma lettre de motivation: je te joins 2 exemples. Comme l'a dit un internaut, l'important c'est surtout d'adapter ton discours à la personne que tu vas trouver. si tu vas bosser dans le développement durable mets en avant le coté du vélo, des paysages, des modes de vie que tu as vu, si tu vas être barman... heuu... parle des contacts que tu as développé avec les gens, malgré la barrière de la langue, que le vélo t'a permis d'être au plus près des gens, etc. tu comprends.
Donc 2 exemples de ma lettre de motivation
* "Par ailleurs, la traversée de l’Asie que j’ai effectué en solitaire à vélo met en valeur ma force de caractère et ma motivation, mon envie de défis quel que soit la dureté du projet et des longues journées d’effort et mon goût pour la mobilité. Le fait d’avoir traversé de nombreux pays, aux cultures et climats différents, souligne mon adaptabilité à de nombreuses situations."
* traduction google de mon CV espagnol, désolé pour les fautes de traduction, je suis fénéant aujourd'hui pour traduire moi-même
"A la fin de ma carrière universitaire j'ai voyagé pendant un an, j'ai traversé l'Asie seul avec un vélo, mon but était de découvrir le monde et les lieux mythiques comme pays d'Asie centrale et le Tibet. Ce voyage m'a permis d'être au courant des besoins de la population pour leur développement et le rôle important que joue l'énergie dans ce but, en tenant compte du développement durable."

Pour moi l'important n'est pas l'intitulé. Personnellement "globe-trotteur" ne me parait pas valorisant, le mot trotteur c'est pas terrible. Décris simplement que tu as voyagé pendant 1 an. Essaie de comprendre ce que cherche le recruteur. Si t'es dans la vente, est qui plus en en Europe, mets en avant des chiffres, ils aiment ça, 20 000 km, 8 langues, joue la performance et le contact humain, etc. Trouve ta propre stratégie.

je travaille dans "l'insertion professionnelle" / les RH depuis plusieurs années et je suis tout à fait d'accord avec ce que tu dis : mettre en valeur compétences et qualités acquises pendant le voyage en fonction du poste recherché.
Mais à ce propos, pourquoi il ne nous a pas dit dans quel domaine il recherchait, c'est important pour adapter les conseils : on ne postule pas dans la pub comme dans l'industrie !
Quant à "l'intitulé" du CV, je n'ai pas bien compris (mettre "globe-trotteur" en haut d'un CV, c'est quoi le rapport ?): si on en met un, à mon avis, c'est pour mettre l'intitulé du profil de poste que l'on a déjà (graphiste, serrurier etc) et que l'on postule pour ce type de poste... si on vise un poste sur lequel on a jamais exercé, il y a possibilité de mettre en haut du CV son "projet professionnel" en quelques lignes.
Possible aussi, si on a des expériences diverses et variées, voyages compris, de lister ses compétences et qualités en haut du CV, avant la chrono des expériences...à ce propos, je te rejoints aussi concernant les qualités (capacité d'adaptation etc) : trés important de les argumenter dans le courrier (et en entretien) : on peut recevoir une personne qui "techniquement" semble super en terme de compétences, mais que l'on imagine mal dans la future équipe et/ou fonction pour laquelle on recrute...
bref, plein de possibilités (toujours penser à se mettre à la place de l'employeur)...mais à adapter en fonction du domaine visé, donc on en revient à la même question : que cherche-t-il comme job, pardi ??

Je reviens d'un voyage de 9 mois et j'ai eu le même problème quand j'ai refait mon CV.
Une coach professionnelle m'a aidé à le formuler par rapport à ma formation dans le domaine culturel et ça donne :
"Séjour interculturel autofinancé en Nouvelle-Zélande, Australie et Thaïlande : découverte de la diversité des cultures (traditions, patrimoine, modes de vie, langues, ...)"
C'est assez large donc ça laisse place aux questions tout en expliquant quand même un peu ce que j'ai fait et où j'ai été.
Et cela sous entend comme le disait Romanof19 : faculté d'adaptation, ouverture d'esprit, mobilité, ... que je peux expliquer lors d'un entretien.
Donc je pense aussi qu'il faut l'adapter en fonction de ta formation et de ce que tu recherches.

Dans la rubrique finale "divers" du Cv ou "centres d'intérêts", si j'étais concernée, je noterais "Projet tour du monde à vélo" et expliquerais en 2 lignes les motivations et bénéfices persos et professionnels que m'aurait apporté la réalisation de ce projet.
je crois que cette réalisation fait ressortir de l'ambition, du courage, de l'initiative, indépendance, le côté humain, combatif, curieux et tout plein d'autres qualités et savoir-être. Tu ne peux qu'en être fier et le valoriser. Pour certains employeurs, cela peut dénoter également que tu sais prendre des risques et aller au bout des choses. Cela peut également dénoter un côté challengeur; certains employeurs ont besoin pour certains postes, de personnalités qui s'épanouissent à travers le changement, les défis, de personnes indépendantes et self-motivated qui n'attendent de la reconnaissance que par eux-mêmes et leurs propres réalisations. Ceci est très apprécié, et peut être un atout si tu ne possèdes pas la formation ou les qualifications idéales, mais des qualités personnelles très singulières. Bonne chance!

I’m a teacher in Creuse, working in a ULIS program (which welcomes children aged 6 to 12 with disabilities into a mainstream school). This year, I’m starting a school journal project that will involve the kids in many different topics. A big part of the journal will focus on opening up to the world, diversity, travel, countries, culture...
I’m launching a call to invite as many of you as possible to send us a little postcard (from France or anywhere in the world!) to take us on a journey and help us discover new places, countries, and horizons—much more fun and exciting than a regular geography textbook! One section of our journal could be called "We received mail from " and would be an opportunity to research that location and share what we learn with our readers (a super enriching activity in class).
The project starts in September 2025 but has no real end date, as this journal and world discovery initiative will span several school years (the kids stay in my ULIS program for multiple years). Postcards can be sent anytime—throughout the year, across seasons, even during holidays! (The kids will find them when they return.)
I hope this idea appeals to as many of you as possible and that you’ll spread the word to your fellow traveler friends. Make us dream, take us on a journey!!!

I just discovered a great show on Arte.
It's called "7 en route": seven young European journalists travel around Europe in a fully converted bus, making reports on every city they visit. It's amazing! 🙂
Yesterday, for example, they were in Rome, Italy, and the reports included things like the world's smallest restaurant—a super romantic spot for two. There was also a report on the king of paparazzi in Italy.
They have to pick topics that let us discover the little quirks of each country. And at the end of each episode, we get to see the finished report.
It's such a great show, mixing journalism, travel, and discovery—basically, a must-watch!

After a quarter without dragging my slippers around here, even though I’d loudly declared I had no interest left in this site, here I am again!
My imagination never stays fallow for long. Just enough time for my inner land to rest. It gets overgrown with fresh nettles, the kind you can pick without getting stung. Then, it’s time to till the fragrant earth and let the story grow.
I hesitated over where to set this story.
Maybe the Highlands, maybe the Hebrides, maybe the Orkney Islands, maybe the Shetland Islands. All of Scotland is myth—easy to embroider.
But in the end, no. I’d almost be too afraid to bare my soul.
The story will take place at home. Simple, practical.

This morning, I was up well before dawn, feeling a bit grumpy, but nothing a bowl of coffee won’t fix. I love my bowl, and no one dares take it. It’s porcelain, edged with intertwined blue flowers. On the bottom, it says "Revol." The factory has existed long before the Revolution. It was my great-grandmother’s bowl. She drank roasted barley from it during the war, then her Leroux chicory.
Last year, a little guy dropped it. My bowl broke into three pieces. A black anger vibrated deep inside me. The little boy was so upset, on the verge of tears. How could I scold him!
I picked up the three pieces and took Little Boy in my arms. His hair smelled of the light, sweet sweat of toddlers. A gentle hug that healed—his budding sorrow and my anger—everything vanished, and time carried on.
Today, my bowl is even prettier. Man fixed it using the traditional kintsugi technique, except he didn’t use gold powder or lacquer but superglue, and he delicately painted the cracks with woad blue. And my bowl is even more beautiful now.
I’m lingering, I can tell—it’s just that a story wraps itself in life, and life can’t be told in the snap of a finger. Life is long. Like in architecture, you start with a rough sketch, called a "sous-cul" (the initial pencil drawing), then you make a tracing, which is the work itself, the one you later carefully roll up in a wooden tube.
Life is like that: you erase, you start over, you use the nub of the pencil until it’s tiny, but you keep going—dreaming, loving.

On this forum, we talk a lot about trekking in the Himalayas, but I’d love to share another side of Nepal: its spiritual, cultural, and religious atmosphere, especially in Kathmandu.
Nepal, much like Tibet and Bhutan, is deeply connected to the Himalayas—the ultimate sacred mountain range. This small country exudes a calming vibe, shaped by a strong spiritual dimension. What I loved most was the unique sensory experience you get there. Walking around temples and tantric monasteries, a distinct scent fills the air—aromatic plants used for ritual fumigation. Locals mainly burn Himalayan juniper, cedar, sandalwood, and other local essences. This fragrant smoke is a way to purify the space and reach the deities, and you’re constantly enveloped in these aromas.
Another striking aspect is the sound. As soon as you step outside, you hear bells ringing in front of temples. People ring them three times before praying to announce their presence to the deities. Nepal is also the birthplace of singing bowls and sound meditation practices. In Kathmandu, you can easily find meditation sessions or "sound baths."
The spiritual dimension is everywhere: a Hindu sadhu practicing asceticism, a lama in deep red robes with his mala, turning a prayer wheel while murmuring "Om mani padme hum." Newar Buddhism, Tantrism, and Hinduism coexist harmoniously in daily life.

I only need it for checking routes, looking up addresses, train schedules, etc.—basically using Google Maps, TripAdvisor, and similar apps. No heavy downloads or major internet use. All hotels should provide free Wi-Fi for that, right?
Has anyone got any tips for me on this? What have you tried, and how much did it cost?

I wanted to share a really unpleasant experience from our last trip booked with Promoséjours and organized by FTI.
We booked an 8-day/7-night stay in Egypt, from June 8 to 15.
The flight initially scheduled was changed a week before departure to take off at 10 PM from Paris CDG.
In the end, it took off with a 1-hour delay and included an unmentioned stopover in Marsa Alam.
We landed in Hurghada at 4 AM and arrived at the hotel at 6 AM.
So, we spent our first night on the plane.
For the return trip, surprise—the flight was moved up. We left the hotel at 10:30 PM on Friday the 14th to take off at 2 AM and land at 7 AM at Paris CDG.
So, we spent our last night on the plane too.
After sending a complaint letter to Promoséjours / FTI, they replied that the first and last days can be dedicated to transport (which I already knew) and that no matter how many nights you book, you’re not guaranteed to spend them in the hotel—it could just as well be on the plane.
I’m really questioning this.
Isn’t there a law that protects customers in cases like this?
Because when I do the math, the first and part of the second day were spent on transport, same for the second-to-last and last day. And I paid for 7 nights for a stay that only lasted 5.
Anyway, I just want to say thanks to them—thanks to their two sleepless nights in transit, I’m coming back even more exhausted from a trip that was supposed to be restful!
I also want to warn anyone booking through this agency about visas for Egypt.
At booking, they told me the visa was included in the price, then they sent me an email saying I’d have to pay for it on-site at 25 €.
Once there, we were directed to a special line for FTI customers, and guess what? They charged us 30 €!
Basically, they’re great at making sure you *enjoy* your vacation—mostly by enjoying your wallet!
If anyone has dealt with this kind of situation and won their case, I’m all ears.

I’m heading to Thailand for two months.
So I thought I’d get a Thai SIM card to use Google Maps for getting around cities, mostly.
Here’s my question: will this SIM affect my apps? Or will they work the same as with my Orange SIM?
Is there any setup I need to do, or can I just pop in the Thai SIM?
I’d also like to switch back to my Orange SIM now and then while I’m in Thailand—on the same phone. Will I need to reset the phone, or will it reconnect without any issues?

I’m reaching out to all travelers and globe-trotters on this forum. I’m a teacher in Creuse working in a ULIS program (which welcomes children aged 6 to 12 with disabilities into a mainstream school). This year, I’m launching a school journal project that will involve the kids in many different topics. A big part of this journal will focus on opening up to the world, embracing differences, travel, global cultures, and more.
I’m putting out a call to invite as many of you as possible to send us a postcard (from France or anywhere in the world)! The goal is to help us "travel" and discover new places, countries, and horizons in a way that’s much more fun and exciting than a geography textbook. One section of our journal could be called "We received a letter from ," where we’d research the location and share what we learn with our readers—a really enriching activity for the classroom.
The project starts in September 2025 but doesn’t have a strict end date, since this journal and world-discovery initiative will span several school years (the kids stay in the ULIS program for multiple years). Postcards can be sent anytime—throughout the year, across seasons, even during holidays! The kids will find them when they return.
I hope this idea appeals to as many of you as possible, and that you’ll spread the word to your fellow travelers. Help us dream and explore!

Here’s the thing: during our trip there in April, we discovered a jewelry artisan (highly recommended!) on the left when exiting through the west exit of Nishiki Market (which is a long covered east-west street).
