Sur ce sujet, je ne me fie pas top à ce que disent les gens sur les forums. Je pense qu'il ne faut pas prendre ceci à la légère.
J'ai l'habitude de passer à l'Institut Pasteur, de subir tous les vaccins nécessaires, d'emporter ma moutiquaire (ça y est c'est fait elle est imprégnée) de l'insect-écran peau (aucune piqure (si une guêpe*) et pourtant j'y ai passé du temps) et pour ce coin-là, du Lariam... sauf réaction indésirable (mais pour 4 jours, c'est franchement lourd...). Et je repasse à Pasteur en revenant. Santé parfaite !

Franchement rien de particulier. Un bon antimoustique. Comme vous partez avec une structure organisée vous disposerez probablement d'un couchage avec moustiquaire ou l'air conditionné, ou les deux !
Contrairement à ce que l'on imagine il y a très peu de malaria dans cette région.

Comme le dit Trans, il ne faut pas en faire un fromage et prendre le minimum de précautions, à savoir se protéger le soir venu avec un bon répulsif à base de citronelle par exemple, se couvrir les jambes et les avants bras, et être sur d'avoir une moustiquaire ou à défaut un bon ventilateur dans sa chambre...et c'est tout.
Surtout ne pas prendre ce foutu Lariam, qui vous empoisonera la vie plus qu'autre chose, et de toute façon tous les divers organismes de santé ou les agences vous diront toujours de vous " blinder " au maximum en prenant des tas de médicaments, car faut il le préciser l'industrie pharmaceutique est une industrie qui tourne à plein régime et fait de gros bénéfices....😠

Alors que nous sommes en plein calcul d'espérance de gain : moins je séjourne longtemps, moins j'ai de chance de choper le Palu. Suis-je à la recherche du risque zéro ? Réponse, il n'y en a pas. Puisque les traitements (surtout le Lariam), les vaccins ne sont pas totalement inoffensifs. A moi de m'informer, de choisir mes sources et de prendre un risque que j'espère bien calculé.

Dans le cas de l'Amazonie il y a un certain nombre de poches de palu. Mais je répondais à quelqu'un qui part en voyage organisé, et je sais qu'il n'ira pas mettre les pieds dans ces zones plus risquées.
C'est en suivant les conseils de ces organismes et de ces sites qui répondent de façon générale que je me retrouve souvent avec des clients qui font un traitement anti palu dans les Andes à 4000 m d'altitude ! parce qu'ils ont lu qu'il y a du palu au Pérou

Voici une voyageuse qui part avec un T.O., donc a beaucoup moins de chance qu'un voyageur individuel de se rendre dans des zones à risque, et de plus ne va passer que 4 jours en forêt ( ou soi disant....), et on veut lui faire peur en sortant toute l'armada médicale de différents organismes ayant créés de beaux sites web.....
Entre nous, ce n'était pas la peine de lui faire peur à ce point là, et de toute façon la discussion est impossible entre les pro-vaccins et les non-vaccins, mais il faut laisser les gens se faire leur propre opinion et ne pas tout mélanger sur le fait de savoir si l'institut Pasteur est utile ou non, évidemment que oui, mais il faut voir de quoi on parle et il y a une différence entre quelqu'un ( de surcroit probablement en bonne santé et bien nourri ) qui va passer 4 jours en forêt amazonienne et des enfants ( ne bénéficiant pas de tout notre confort alimentaire et médical ) qui y vivent à longueur d'année.....

Pour ou contre le Lariam, pour ou contre les vaccins peu importe. Les médecins spécialisés en conseil au voyageurs de l'institut pasteur sont de très bon conseil (et pour le palu, ils te répondront par rapport au lieu exact de tes vacances)

Nous voyageons régulièrement et avons jusqu'à présent toujours opté pour une bonne protection anti-moustique et ne prenions pas de traitement préventif.
Nous revenons du Brésil où nous avons passé 4 semaines dont 4 jours en forêt amazonienne et 2 jours à Marajo. Mon mari est ectuellement en réanimation à Bichat depuis 10 jours pour une crise de palu gravissime. Il a été "rattrapé" inextrémis par les spécialistes de cet hôpital mais on ne sait toujours pas quand il sortira de réanimation. Même si la crise de palu est enrayée, son corps a tellement souffert qu'il a beaucoup de mal à récupérer.
Je veux espérer que d'ici qques mois ceci ne sera plus qu'un mauvais souvenir et que ça ne nous empéchera pas de revoyager mais il est clair qu'on va revoir notre position quand à l'utilité de la prévention.

Quand j'avais écris ce post il y a deux ans maintenant, je ne savais vraiment pas quoi faire, j'avais vu quantité de chose sur le sujet, à la fois du pour et du contre.
Et finalement, nous avions suivi les conseils de notre médecin, c-a-d prendre le Lariam. Nous n'avions pas subi d'effet secondaire, et tout s'était bien passé...
Aujourd'hui, en vous lisant, je me dis que nous avions probablement pris la bonne décision.
Maintenant, chacun est libre...

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?

I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.
After all that, and even though I’ll obviously contact the relevant authorities in each country (fingers crossed for a response 😛), here’s my question: Has anyone here had any experience with this? (Even if it’s a different medication or different countries, any input would be helpful!)

We’d like to know if there’s a real risk of Zika contamination on those islands, because from what we’ve found online, the recorded cases are old and come from the Sotavento Islands.
We’re thinking about canceling our trip.
If you’ve recently traveled to Cape Verde or live there, do you have any thoughts on this?

Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.
I plan to bring my prescriptions with the INN (International Nonproprietary Name), as well as the original packaging (even though it’s a nightmare, but from what I understand, it’s necessary). But I’m not sure if that’s enough...
Have any of you been in this situation before? How does it work at customs—do I need to declare everything that exceeds the 3-month limit? Do I need a letter from my doctors?

I’m planning a trip to Thailand in October or November, and I wanted to check about health precautions: malaria treatment, vaccinations (hepatitis A or others...). I’ll mostly be in the northern region, around Chiang Mai, where I’ll spend a lot of time in nature and the mountains. Then I’ll head south to Phuket or Krabi and visit Khao Sok National Park. I’ll finish up in Bangkok, with a likely detour to Kanchanaburi.
From what I understand, for a stay of less than 60 days, I don’t need a visa (I’m a French national)? I just need to fill out the TDAC form 3 to 5 days before arrival?

Bonjour ! Alors voilà, j'hésite à faire un long voyage. J'aimerais partir 2 voir 3 et voyager dans plusieurs continents. J'aimerais avoir quelques renseignements . Je fais souvent des allergies inexpliquées et je dois suivre un traitement quotidien pour soigner mon diabète (insuline). J'ai cru comprendre que je pouvais demander une autorisation à mon médecin pour voyager 6 mois avec le traitement c'est bien cela ? Est-il possible au bout des 6 mois (plutôt que d'embêter un proche à envoyer les médicaments) de se rendre chez un médecin étranger pour obtenir une autorisation de 6 mois de voyage à nouveau ? Comment cela se passe à l'aéroport ? A t-on besoin d'une seule autorisation de transport de médicaments ? Ou bien doit-on dans chaque pays (une fois le traitement écoulé) demander une autorisation de transport de médicaments pour l'avion et une DCI ? De plus, les assurances voyages ne couvrent pas les maladies chroniques donc les consultations à l'étranger seront de ma poche ? Je ne sais pas si j'ai été clair. So, I’m looking for the best compromise for a 2-month health insurance plan. I’ve read the discussions on this topic, but the most recent one is from last year, and I’d love your take on the current situation. I’m familiar with the usual options like Europ Assistance and AXA, but I’ve just discovered Chapka and Heymondo (the latter seems interesting in terms of both price and coverage).
What do you think of these last two? How do they compare in terms of value for money against the bigger companies?

We’ve planned a 3-week trip to Bali this summer with our 7-year-old daughter. The itinerary includes Sanur, Nusa Lembongan, Sidemen, Amed, and Ubud. The more time passes, the more we read about people getting sick—some with mild to severe traveler’s diarrhea, and many ending up in the hospital. We, as parents, have been through it in Egypt with pretty bad cases, but we’d really like to avoid that for our daughter. Even though there’s no zero risk, and we’ll be careful, can any of you reassure me? Not everyone got sick, right? I’d love to hear positive feedback from parents, but not just them 😊.
